She was a marketing exec at LA. Not a developer. SOE developed the NGE.
DOesn't matter what position she was, she's the one that said all this.

I don't know if I agree with what you seem to be implying. It is far, far worse to take something someone likes and turn it into crap than to try and explain WHY the people above you turned something someone likes into crap. We'll probably never know whether she actually believed in what she said there.
We know however that Smed and Sons did it and have done it again, and again.
Had Smed not done what he did; she would never have had to say what she did. Also this lead to her leaving the industry. Smed just sits there and smiles, and acts as if he is a decent person, while he continues to do the same things to his customers.
What she said was ridiculous -- but she was still just the messenger.
Who was it that said their new "target" playerbase wants "kill, loot, repeat"? This did not sit well with the 250K people playing SWG. The whole attitude with BOTH $OE and LEC was screw the playerbase we have now ..... we can get more kids to play and make up for the loss.
John Smedley (and Nancy) has NO business being in this industry. Even if he saved me about $420.00 a year for two accounts.
With regards to 250K subscribers .... that equates to about $10,500,000.00 peryear that went into the pocket of a competitor of $OE.

10 mill $OE didn't get talk about a warm feeling.....

LOL! As I recall, WoW opened a few more servers when the NGE went live. I am sure Blizzard is thankful too!

I know I never would have tried WoW or CoH had the NGE never happened. I know I lost a quite a few friends to both of those games after the NGE hit.

I still find it amusing to see people still pretend that she said there was to much reading, now okay she did say that, but have you guy's really forgotten all the topics concurning players who felt that they needed to read far to much, often not meant as ingame reading but often meant in way's that people needed to search for info on the internet, all she did was saying what WE ALL already saw and read on the official forums made by people/players who felt there was to much reading with SWG.
And sorry I have nothing t thank JS for. I didn't put the money I might have spend on SWG if the NGE never happend on a savings account, most likely I spend it just aswell towards other things, besides that who knows how long I would have sticked with the game, I can definitly not know for sure if I still would be paying the game if the NGE had never happend. I could speculate, but I doubt I would have remained till today with the game if nothing was changed and only was fixed and polished.
TO MAKE IT CLEAR I AM NOT BLAMING THE ACTUAL PLAYER, but am blaming those who where so loud shortly after release and the months afters who mostly whined on the forums about how bad/hard/difficult/tomuchreading/jedi/notStarWarsy etc etc the game was. As most constructive topics often got locked because the whiners didn't want the devs to listen to actual players as often those whiners wanted us to go play games like The Sims or Second Life as those whiners didn't understand GAMERS.
Agree totally the cry babey s ruined it for the vast majority. They cried so much about decay and other things it affected the direction the game went towards. Marketing people like Nacy or producers like Torres looked at these stats and deducted that since population numbers seemed to loose 10% each month. Thats right the only reason it still had a population was due to expansions bringing in poeple, marketing and boxes on shelves kept the game floating at 250k until the NGE.
It is sad to see how much they messed up, the game had so much potential, they should have made expansions to create enough content to keep people buisy. And not messed around with game mechanics or game changes. The changes never brought in one person, it was one big pipe dream. But hey its still the only SW mmo you will see for the next 3-4 years. I play on and off, its still fun, but I reccomend to any mmo player's, breaks from games like this make it more fun when you go back and try them again.
