I only post when I play I stop posting when I stop playing and usually within a couple of weeks loose interest as I play another game and find another forum with that game on it that has actual posters. So since we are getting personal what is it that keeps you on these forums with no real purpose in mind other then to bash a company you have no real interest in any longer and bash a game that you have not played for 3 years.

a) the server merges/transfers were in fact a huge success and have revitalized a now 5 year old game
b) there is not the amount of lag you claim there is the game breaking lag is in fact fixed from what I can tell.
I can say this because I am playing the game and spent 2 weeks not playing while i waited for the fixes to come in from the server issues. I can also say this as a happy paying subscriber who truly is enjoying the now more then just a little bit healthy server population.
I can also tell you I dont care whether is 50 people or 5 million people playing the game. There are enough playing on my present server for me to do anything my heart desires and without game breaking lag you say there is that there is not. Sorry again.

I was in an EK group that got wiped 3 times last night on Flurry because of lag spikes, a friend needed an 8th and I figured why not, not like I need it.
I was doing the element changing the second time when it happened.
Massive lag spike (three times), group dead (three times).
Instance could not be finished due to time constraints. Sounds rather game-breaking to me.
Nice try, you fail.
And we got the reentry bug on two people for 15 minutes as a bonus.
At least I didn't have to pay actual money for this lag.

About 2 years after my computer engineer friend wrote his essay to SOE about the lag problem and its connection with the NGE speed, one of the devs also explained the lag problem in the exact same terms. HIs comment was that they are "working on it." Recent developer comments say they are still "working on it." See, this is why I don't pay Sony to play their stuff. Working on lag spikes like this and seeking player input = beta testing, which is usually free, because you are taking your time to help a company identify and fix their problems.
I'm sure that the issues affect people differently. There are so many variables regarding internet connectivity, it's crazy. A lot of people are impacted negatively though, that much is clear (e.g. 50 pages of complaints). City of Heroes had a very similar problem in Issue 12. Thousands were affected, thousands were not. Because it was such a serious issue (for many players, but not all), NCsoft engineers worked overtime on it, and corrected the server side issues in about a month. Everyone affected was then given a month's free subscription time. Why? Because it was frustrating for them and because they spent most of that month trouble-shooting with the engineers.
I'm not a big fan of NCsoft atm, but this is still a much better response than "working on it" for more than 3 years, while charging a premium price. I understand that people choose to settle for this because it's the only StarWars MMO in town (for now), but the facts don't support the notion that the game is well run. Quite the contray I find.
Also, if one player doesn't experience the lag, why would this mean that the 50 pages of others who do experience the lag are incorrect? I'd say, count yourself lucky that this issue isn't affecting you in the same way it is many of your fellow gamers. Dismissing their input though, doesn't really make much sense to me.

If the game were still in the shape it was when the nge was released I and others would not be playing and new players would not return.
This is the same exact statement that has been repeated over and over for 3 years now. I think it is a fine time to bury this statement and never say it again.
Games that are growing don't need server mergers. They don't need free transfers that completely destroy the communities on 80% of the live servers in an attempt to fill up 20% of the servers. They don't need looking for group tools to help players find each other. So yes maybe new people are starting the game and some old players are returning, but I think it is safe to safe this game is not growing which is what the above statement is trying to imply for 3 years now. If new players are starting and old players returning, but the game isn't growing that means more are leaving to offset those numbers (or they just don't stick around for any real length of time).
While I don't think the server mergers were a failure at getting more people into one playable space, I think it is clear enough that the servers ever since the nge have struggled under any form of player congestion. Even a small amount of players in the same area can impact performance making the game unplayable. Denying this doesn't make it go away.
I wouldn't call it a failure, I haven't experienced any major lag issues since the merges. I play on Bria, quite populated as most of you know. I pvp alot and run instances probably 2-3 times a week. I do know some people have been having lag issues, but I haven't seen it. You can call everything else in the game a failure but to me the merges helped the community a crap ton. However, some servers that were destination servers are still somewhat barren, better off than they were, but not nearly as populated as Starsider/Bria/Bloodfin etc. I have alts on Sunrunner and it looks just as dead as it did 2 years ago.
Until another great sandbox comes along I could care less though, whine all ya want, you won't find a game like SWG anywhere in the near future short of emu's which we all know are moving at a snails pace. I had high hopes for Darkfail but it's looking bad recently. I will admit though, without a good ground of friends to play with everyday, the game is pretty much dying/dead.

I think you misinterpret the statement being made and assume that everyone has some sort of script and we all got together and decided it has to be said. Its not true. since this is the only time I have made that statement and its an honest observation and there is no denial of anything then I think your trying to twist words. The games servers were dropping in population before any game changes had taken place. This is true and even sony stated it was true. People in games come and go in every game. People return in every game. So please take the statement for what it says. People have and are returning for periods of time I have returned 1 year ago when the game functioned again and not before. I have met players and am in a guild of players who are about 75% players who never played any precu or prenge anything. That means they are new to the present game and not the past one. In fact some of them pretty much have a dim view or "elder jedi" and elder anything because they are known as a bellyaching lot who tend to think they are worth more then present subscribers and you can hear and feel the fatigue when they have to put up with another returning player returning and ranting about what the past held and adjusting to the present. About the smugglers and slicing and spice and "when I joined we did this". So there are plenty of new players who in fact outnumber the old crowd and any old crowd that has joined plays now in the present and has cast off the past and just enjoys the game for what it is. So its not an untrue statement you seem to think though that when 1 person signs up its not true. That when a guild of new nge players is in exsitance its not true, but it is true. I do meet new players who picked up the game and I have invited new players who just picked up the game to our guild. So I do hate to say it there are players leaving or who have left (iin the past) who are being replaced. Like any game you find a group of players to play with and you play the game. SWG is no different. You create a community and you play in the community. I will repeat again I dont care what the actual number of players is it can be 50 or 5 million. I dont care what others consider to be a succcessful game in that sense. If there are enough players that I can play the game (and there are because I can do what I want and find a group when I want) then I am happy. So yes I said this not for any other purpose then its true. It is what I have seen and am a part of. I am in an active guild and on an active server. Server merges should have occured years ago. Some servers were always pretty low pop as sony opened up more servers then needed. So I have no idea if the population is actualy increasing and i dont care. I do know that enough players are joining the game to deal with the rate of attrition that occurs in any game if there is an excess I don't know. I dont count people I see a group and I pvp and I do my heroics and I have a crafter that sells items off of vendors who makes money. That means there is a population large enough to make the game function, but dont take the statements of people are resubbing and picking up this game for any more then what it is. The statement means nothing more then those exact words and its true. If it were not true I would have no one to play with and no one to sell my stuff to. The servers you speak off have been an issue for more then just recent. Again for whatever reason sony waited 3 years to make the right move. However there are still some things that have to be acknowledged.
a) New players are picking up the game and subscribing its a fact (i dont know how many and I dont care but it is a fact because I invite them to guilds and meet them and they know nothing of nge., cu and pre anythings
b) Its unfair to call server merges a failure because they in fact were not
c) for every person you see complain about lag you will probably have 5 or 6 jump up and say that they are experiencing none. Whatever lag I was experiencing and yes I did experience some occured at christmas time and just after the server meges. Sony did jump on it and has worked on it and it has improved a great deal. I do and have pvp'ed and done instances and know why I logged out and know that I have been able to not logout in the last while.
d) If you notice people posting to this thread who actually play are saying that if there is lag now they are not experiencing it. Its possible some are, but its unfair to say that its on a scale that everyone is experiencing it and if they are nt they MUST be lying. Right now for me the game is very playable and I stay playing for hours on end. I consider the server transfer to be a true success and anyone who is trying to portray it as a failure does not know what they are talking about and obviously is not playing the game.

But ummax said there was NO server lag at all which was laughable. You know many people would probably not have issues since the majority do not PvP or have zero reason to play in a group. However it is hard to debate someone when they have no idea what they are talking about.
The developers acknowledged they have a problem. That should be a little "credible" evidence for the naysayers that they have issues although I will admit that lying does come naturally to the folks at SOE.
As for the "gotta keep this on the front page"...that wouldn't have been necessary had Elias not removed the sticky on it and you know it. He didn't unsticky it because people were trolling. If that was his main excuse then he is a piss poor community manager and forum moderator.

I've been playing on Infinity recently and we are building up a small community of players that are staying, and picking up new and returning players all the time. There is a fantastic community spirit of enterprise that reminds me of SWG at launch.
This puts SWG in a very healthy position with happy players and more joining daily.

As for the "Transfer from" servers, these servers have retained a small community of dedicated and passionate players who call these servers home. I've been playing on Infinity recently and we are building up a small community of players that are staying, and picking up new and returning players all the time. There is a fantastic community spirit of enterprise that reminds me of SWG at launch. This puts SWG in a very healthy position with happy players and more joining daily. I was not a major supporter of a Free CTS as I thought it would simply compound the problem of the server population imbalance, but having given players the choice of where they want to play and with SWG attracting plenty of players to fill the "Transfer from" servers over the years to come it seems it was a good choice.
It is really amazing what we call "healthy" in regards to this game as compared to others isn't it?

here because your eyeballs are more then just a little selective here is the statement i made on january 27th 2009 its now feb 18th several weeks after i made the statements and for me the issue is fixed and for anyone else from what I can tell (seeing as we are all logged in, experiencing no packet loss and not lagging like moffo's)
unable to login again tonight due to 'server loading" I have no idea if this is the info you want or need. The server was starsider and it was 9 pm est .
I am also having packet loss of about 10% at times and had to logout last night because it was causing me way to much lag. I was on dantoinne at the time. It was also about 9 p.m est and the server was again starsider.

YOu will interpret it it differently then the average reader and that is because your trying to make something to bolster what you feel its occuring that is not. I was in an EK group that got wiped 3 times last night on Flurry because of lag spikes, a friend needed an 8th and I figured why not, not like I need it.
I was doing the element changing the second time when it happened.
Massive lag spike (three times), group dead (three times).
Instance could not be finished due to time constraints. Sounds rather game-breaking to me.
Nice try, you fail.
And we got the reentry bug on two people for 15 minutes as a bonus.
At least I didn't have to pay actual money for this lag.

I was in an EK group that got wiped 3 times last night on Flurry because of lag spikes, a friend needed an 8th and I figured why not, not like I need it.
I was doing the element changing the second time when it happened.
Massive lag spike (three times), group dead (three times).
Instance could not be finished due to time constraints. Sounds rather game-breaking to me.
Nice try, you fail.
And we got the reentry bug on two people for 15 minutes as a bonus.
At least I didn't have to pay actual money for this lag.

About 2 years after my computer engineer friend wrote his essay to SOE about the lag problem and its connection with the NGE speed, one of the devs also explained the lag problem in the exact same terms. HIs comment was that they are "working on it." Recent developer comments say they are still "working on it." See, this is why I don't pay Sony to play their stuff. Working on lag spikes like this and seeking player input = beta testing, which is usually free, because you are taking your time to help a company identify and fix their problems.
I'm sure that the issues affect people differently. There are so many variables regarding internet connectivity, it's crazy. A lot of people are impacted negatively though, that much is clear (e.g. 50 pages of complaints). City of Heroes had a very similar problem in Issue 12. Thousands were affected, thousands were not. Because it was such a serious issue (for many players, but not all), NCsoft engineers worked overtime on it, and corrected the server side issues in about a month. Everyone affected was then given a month's free subscription time. Why? Because it was frustrating for them and because they spent most of that month trouble-shooting with the engineers.
I'm not a big fan of NCsoft atm, but this is still a much better response than "working on it" for more than 3 years, while charging a premium price. I understand that people choose to settle for this because it's the only StarWars MMO in town (for now), but the facts don't support the notion that the game is well run. Quite the contray I find.
Also, if one player doesn't experience the lag, why would this mean that the 50 pages of others who do experience the lag are incorrect? I'd say, count yourself lucky that this issue isn't affecting you in the same way it is many of your fellow gamers. Dismissing their input though, doesn't really make much sense to me.

So yes maybe new people are starting the game and some old players are returning, but I think it is safe to safe this game is not growing which is what the above statement is trying to imply for 3 years now. If new players are starting and old players returning, but the game isn't growing that means more are leaving to offset those numbers (or they just don't stick around for any real length of time).
While I don't think the server mergers were a failure at getting more people into one playable space, I think it is clear enough that the servers ever since the nge have struggled under any form of player congestion. Even a small amount of players in the same area can impact performance making the game unplayable. Denying this doesn't make it go away.

I wouldn't call it a failure, I haven't experienced any major lag issues since the merges. I play on Bria, quite populated as most of you know. I pvp alot and run instances probably 2-3 times a week. I do know some people have been having lag issues, but I haven't seen it. You can call everything else in the game a failure but to me the merges helped the community a crap ton. However, some servers that were destination servers are still somewhat barren, better off than they were, but not nearly as populated as Starsider/Bria/Bloodfin etc. I have alts on Sunrunner and it looks just as dead as it did 2 years ago.
Until another great sandbox comes along I could care less though, whine all ya want, you won't find a game like SWG anywhere in the near future short of emu's which we all know are moving at a snails pace. I had high hopes for Darkfail but it's looking bad recently. I will admit though, without a good ground of friends to play with everyday, the game is pretty much dying/dead.

I think you misinterpret the statement being made and assume that everyone has some sort of script and we all got together and decided it has to be said. Its not true. since this is the only time I have made that statement and its an honest observation and there is no denial of anything then I think your trying to twist words. The games servers were dropping in population before any game changes had taken place. This is true and even sony stated it was true. People in games come and go in every game. People return in every game. So please take the statement for what it says. People have and are returning for periods of time I have returned 1 year ago when the game functioned again and not before. I have met players and am in a guild of players who are about 75% players who never played any precu or prenge anything. That means they are new to the present game and not the past one. In fact some of them pretty much have a dim view or "elder jedi" and elder anything because they are known as a bellyaching lot who tend to think they are worth more then present subscribers and you can hear and feel the fatigue when they have to put up with another returning player returning and ranting about what the past held and adjusting to the present. About the smugglers and slicing and spice and "when I joined we did this". So there are plenty of new players who in fact outnumber the old crowd and any old crowd that has joined plays now in the present and has cast off the past and just enjoys the game for what it is. So its not an untrue statement you seem to think though that when 1 person signs up its not true. That when a guild of new nge players is in exsitance its not true, but it is true. I do meet new players who picked up the game and I have invited new players who just picked up the game to our guild. So I do hate to say it there are players leaving or who have left (iin the past) who are being replaced. Like any game you find a group of players to play with and you play the game. SWG is no different. You create a community and you play in the community. I will repeat again I dont care what the actual number of players is it can be 50 or 5 million. I dont care what others consider to be a succcessful game in that sense. If there are enough players that I can play the game (and there are because I can do what I want and find a group when I want) then I am happy. So yes I said this not for any other purpose then its true. It is what I have seen and am a part of. I am in an active guild and on an active server. Server merges should have occured years ago. Some servers were always pretty low pop as sony opened up more servers then needed. So I have no idea if the population is actualy increasing and i dont care. I do know that enough players are joining the game to deal with the rate of attrition that occurs in any game if there is an excess I don't know. I dont count people I see a group and I pvp and I do my heroics and I have a crafter that sells items off of vendors who makes money. That means there is a population large enough to make the game function, but dont take the statements of people are resubbing and picking up this game for any more then what it is. The statement means nothing more then those exact words and its true. If it were not true I would have no one to play with and no one to sell my stuff to. The servers you speak off have been an issue for more then just recent. Again for whatever reason sony waited 3 years to make the right move. However there are still some things that have to be acknowledged.
a) New players are picking up the game and subscribing its a fact (i dont know how many and I dont care but it is a fact because I invite them to guilds and meet them and they know nothing of nge., cu and pre anythings
b) Its unfair to call server merges a failure because they in fact were not
c) for every person you see complain about lag you will probably have 5 or 6 jump up and say that they are experiencing none. Whatever lag I was experiencing and yes I did experience some occured at christmas time and just after the server meges. Sony did jump on it and has worked on it and it has improved a great deal. I do and have pvp'ed and done instances and know why I logged out and know that I have been able to not logout in the last while.
d) If you notice people posting to this thread who actually play are saying that if there is lag now they are not experiencing it. Its possible some are, but its unfair to say that its on a scale that everyone is experiencing it and if they are nt they MUST be lying. Right now for me the game is very playable and I stay playing for hours on end. I consider the server transfer to be a true success and anyone who is trying to portray it as a failure does not know what they are talking about and obviously is not playing the game.

Although there were some teething issues with the unprecedented server population increase on many servers, the Devs have been focused on addressing some of the older game code that was responsible for an increase in server "loop times". This is the time it takes for the server to process actions.
Recent reports suggest this has been quite successful, but there is a lot more work to be done to clean up code and improve server infrastructure to support Mass PvP and I'm confident it can be achieved. There is a lot of messy code in SWG that can be cleaned up.
As for the Free Character Transfer, I'm hearing from players in game and on the forums that they are very happy with the options they were given and many players are finding a new lease of life on heavily populated servers.
As for the "Transfer from" servers, these servers have retained a small community of dedicated and passionate players who call these servers home.
I've been playing on Infinity recently and we are building up a small community of players that are staying, and picking up new and returning players all the time. There is a fantastic community spirit of enterprise that reminds me of SWG at launch.
This puts SWG in a very healthy position with happy players and more joining daily.
I was not a major supporter of a Free CTS as I thought it would simply compound the problem of the server population imbalance, but having given players the choice of where they want to play and with SWG attracting plenty of players to fill the "Transfer from" servers over the years to come it seems it was a good choice.
It is really amazing what we call "healthy" in regards to this game as compared to others isn't it?

Every game has some amount of lag and so dont try and turn this into something else. I dont need to be a technical genious to know that what was causing me to logout has stopped and that I am no longer forced to log out. So as a consumer I will repeat. They have repaired it and are working on improving it further. I can login and play the game with no lag (not that I notice anyhow ) so for me the game is repaired. Since I"m not really that unusual you can safely say that if there is one person not experiencing lag that there are others not experiecing lag. I will state again I AM EXPERIENCING no lag not the lag you speak of as ifi was I would still not be logged intot he game so for me lag = none. I challenge you to speak on a subject you actually have experience with instead of taking third hand information and attempting to say you have experience. Remember that the thread you linked I had originally posted to with information on the issue. So I too was experiecing it at one time. Understand that I am no longer having the experience. For me any many others this issue is fixed and if it does still exist its now a smal portion of the player base experiencing it if any are actually experiencing it at all and its not just a few trollers bumping a thread for personal glee cause they have nothing better to do.

here because your eyeballs are more then just a little selective here is the statement i made on january 27th 2009 its now feb 18th several weeks after i made the statements and for me the issue is fixed and for anyone else from what I can tell (seeing as we are all logged in, experiencing no packet loss and not lagging like moffo's)
unable to login again tonight due to 'server loading" I have no idea if this is the info you want or need. The server was starsider and it was 9 pm est .
I am also having packet loss of about 10% at times and had to logout last night because it was causing me way to much lag. I was on dantoinne at the time. It was also about 9 p.m est and the server was again starsider.

Now im sorry if you dont understand what has gone on here but I have gone as far as I can go ont his simple statement of "i am not lagging" and "i am experiencing no lag" with you. YOu will interpret it it differently then the average reader and that is because your trying to make something to bolster what you feel its occuring that is not. Adjust to and get over the fact that sony jumped on the issue when it actually became one and worked on it and fixed it so that I and others could continue playing their game. Adjust to the fact that even though youdont respect me I'm not an imbicile or a liar as you would make me out to be on a repeated basis for your own pleasure. I know that I am not experiencing lag and sincere in my statements and that my statements are indeed accurate and that is all that matters. No, not everyone in the server lag thread is lying, but those people are a far cry from being a majority of people in the game. There are far more people who are not experiencing issues or have had their issues fixed with the work they've been doing than there are people fighting with game-breaking lag.
It's all well and good to point out that the thread in question is over 50 pages long, but there's a very big portion of that with nothing more than 'Gotta keep this on the front page!" by the same few people over and over again.
There are people having issues and those issues aren't related to computer specs. They are isolated issues, though, and not something that is happening game-wide to every player.
But ummax said there was NO server lag at all which was laughable. You know many people would probably not have issues since the majority do not PvP or have zero reason to play in a group. However it is hard to debate someone when they have no idea what they are talking about.
The developers acknowledged they have a problem. That should be a little "credible" evidence for the naysayers that they have issues although I will admit that lying does come naturally to the folks at SOE.
As for the "gotta keep this on the front page"...that wouldn't have been necessary had Elias not removed the sticky on it and you know it. He didn't unsticky it because people were trolling. If that was his main excuse then he is a piss poor community manager and forum moderator.

Every game has some amount of lag and so dont try and turn this into something else. There is not an unreasanable amount of lag which in game speak is as you know 'no lag" everyone experiences some sort of lag unless they live like in the same house as the server. Plus there is lag related to graphics load. What you were trying to say is that people were experiencing game breaking lag. As I said that is fixed for myself anyhow as I was experiencing a game breaking lag when the transfers started. These threads are designed to make people think that sony does nothing that they sit on their hands and watch and ignore things. Sony amazingly is like any other company around. There was a game breaking lag that was interrupting playtime they aplogized and have workd diligently to repair it so again "there is no lag not for me anyhow not the kind your talking about" > "I have not been forced to logout due to lag" "the lag is fixed" . Now despite what you say they are attempting to do their job. If they were not I would still not be able to login and play because of the lag that had occurred. You see your mistaken they are repairing it and have done a lot of repair which has made the game work. I dont need to be a technical genious to know that what was causing me to logout has stopped and that I am no longer forced to log out. So as a consumer I will repeat. They have repaired it and are working on improving it further. I can login and play the game with no lag (not that I notice anyhow ) so for me the game is repaired. Since I"m not really that unusual you can safely say that if there is one person not experiencing lag that there are others not experiecing lag. Any lag that does exist is not noticable and so obviously i'm going to say no lag. So try not to turn this into something else please. The thread is a false statement and what you want people to believe is that sony is neglecting its game omg its terrible what they are doing to their customers. My question is what exactly are they doing now? Repairing the game so that it works.? and merging servers? omg that's horrible indeed!

Bottom line is I'm sick of the games that a handful of people play on here they try to make something of nothing and when they fail at that they pick something else to try to make something of. Oh well we all know the server code is 5 years old and we know that it has always had issues and has gone through 2 million edits. I just resubbed with stationpass...started playing this and vanguard and likely mess around with EQ2 and others. I last played SWG 2yrs ago. I have no lag issues and there does seem to be more people all over than the last time I logged on...of course ...because of the mergers. I like the game. Server: Bloodfin

I am not trying to convince anyone that they have lag...only pointing out that the vast majority of posts in the oboard thread are having issues. If that is not enough evidence for you that there are issues then nothing will.
I don't hate Sony but I will no longer be a patron of their products unless they change. That is my perogative as a consumer.

How is the server latency when in large PvP battles? That seems to be where many of the issues are being seen.
