Can you make guilds in this game? If so , we should make a mmorpg.com guild with all of the members here :) that would be fun , seems to be plently of us hopping into this game.

Problem being that the game is in closed beta.

This game has a bit 'too much sand' for me, lol.  I like the idea of harvesting your materials for crafting, but (as an example) having to harvest wheat into stacks, then having to loot the wheat stacks off the ground, then having to grind each individual wheat down into flour through the tedious process of double-clicking a mill and then targeting your wheat stack over and over and over....it's a bit much.  This is just for FLOUR, which you then have to spend time baking into various foods (I never did figure out how to add water to my flour to make dough so that I could bake some bread...).  Crafting gets very tedious very fast...double-click tool, target-click materials...over and over and over...  I played UO and had a master crafter, but after using the more convenient crafting tools in newer games it's hard for me to go back to the old days.

I don't like the inventory system, it's hard to keep things organized.  I would much prefer a grid system like most of today's games have instead of the 'open bag system' like UO has.

I found combat to be pretty boring.  I'm used to being more involved, not just running up to mobs and auto-attacking.  I noticed that each weapon type did have 2 differing abilities, but for some reason my Tactics skill wasn't increasing so I could never use them.  Even so, having just 2 combat abilities is pretty weak.  Both my Shaman and Death Knight from WoW had over 30 hotkeys, half of them I used regularly while the other half were more situational.  Initiating combat was also a pain.  I didn't like having to click an attack button and then targeting a mob.  This could be made better with a hotkey, which isn't possible at this time.

There's also no ability bar, so you have to keep your inventory open to drink your heal potions (tomato juice, lol), your spellbook open to cast spells, etc.  That's another pain.

The game world itself feels weird to me, it is just a bunch of squares tossed together.  Each player's 'realm' is a small zone, all of them patched together like a quilt.  It's nice to be able to create your own areas, but it gives the game world a very 'artificial' feel.

All in all it's a decent game, I just wish it would embrace some of the conveniences from newer games to remove tedium, and maybe add a large central landmass with player realms surrounding it.

i dont think that they currently have a guild system, however one of my guides was talking about two guilds which has some sort of a rivalry going (they wore the same outfits to tell who was in or not).

    so we could do that

Sounds like too me you just dont know what you're doing yet you should have way more then 2 abilities lol. Try opening up your spellbook and practice your spells. If you're too impatient to do this then yes you are better off in WoW

Also, you can bind skills to keys. There are hotkeys in this game did you try asking a veteran in the chat channel? people are very helpful

I have to say, this is the only game currently keeping my interest.  As to some of the complaints, almost EVERYTHING in the game is hotkeyable.  I have a hotkey to attack, to use my weapons skills (which goes up to 4, not just 2, I believe), all of my Psi abilities, potion drinking, and many other important functions.  Combat is way more engaging once you set your hotkeys up correctly.  I just started getting into magic, and appreciate the more realistic "cast over and over while failing to get good at it".  But most of all, I keep playing because everybody is so nice.  No other game offers a helpful community like this one, currently.  The only real gripe I have, is the inability to slot weapons into some sort of bar for a quick swap.  I'm currently pushing for some kind of implementation.

The game has a lot to offer.  I have yet to start building my own realm, exploring, vastly improving the large array of skills, and just started working on casting spells.

And yeah every developer says their item mall won't be selling things that actually makes a difference in aiding players, only fluff items. The last guy who said that was John Smedley. Liar.

tbh you are representing some "prehistoric design".

Plenty gamers play games with isometric camera, and will always like to play new ones.

The only new games that benefit from isometric view are strategy type games, not MMOGs. Please.

    Umm....

Lineage 1 has (or at least had; it's an aging game now) millions of players world-wide... and it's a MMORPG with 2D isometric graphics. Numerous other MMOs are in isometric view. Ultima Online was and still is an isometric MMO.

MMORPGs are not restricted from using a given perspective. There are top-down MMOs, side-scroller MMOs, isometric MMOs and full 3D MMOs.

Your argument is rather unfounded... and unsupported. Don't mistake your personal preference with what is "standard".

I mentioned the spellbook so I obviously opened it.  I also specifically mentioned COMBAT abilities.  Since you can't cast spells with melee weapons equipped they aren't going to help much while meleeing now are they?

I obviously didn't ask in chat about hotkeys since I thought it wasn't possible.  I was just messing around on my own to get a feel for the game and didn't bother to chat with anybody.  I looked through the options menu and didn't see anything so I assumed it wasn't currently possible.

It's funny though.  In the hated 'theme park' games that people put down, anything repetitious is considered grinding.  Toss repetition into a 'sand box' and we have "go back to WoW if you have no patience"...lol

Hi, Border!!  It's Rhialyn!  Sup?! ;)

Sorry...that was off topic, but I had to say "hey" to my LinkRealms fellow junkie in the making...teehee!

Tomorrow I'm going to start working on turning my realm into a PvP only realm, I think, with ruins and lots of odd things to take cover behind.  Y'all better start practicing your hide skill!  rofl  I'm not sure when I'll have it finished, but I'm pretty excited about it.

Oh...and to whoever was pissin' and moanin' about "player created content".....good gawd almighty.  People bitch and bitch for sandbox, a REAL sandbox comes along and they're too stubborn to take the time to learn the ropes and really try it out.  Pffft.  No wonder developers just laugh at the boards here.  This has got to be the most indecisive fickle bunch of gamers in the entire population of gamers worldwide.

Incidentally, the game still is in beta, the devs log in CONSTANTLY and are around to talk to, hear suggestions, and help.  AND....they actively listen and DISCUSS the concepts and ideas you bring forth.  I don't know, but free to play for what I'm getting out of this?  I haven't logged in to WoW or EQ2 for oh....days now.  Funny thing is....I wake up in the morning thinking about LR.  No thought whatsoever to WoW, EQ2.....I HAVE thought of Ultima Online a few times.  But that was more the fond memories that this game is bringing back.

It's been a long while since I had this "infatuated" feeling about a game.  I'm really enjoying that refreshing newness to it....all the potential I see for it....the creative ideas that I have for my OWN realm are boiling over.  Meh...I don't really care what anyone over here says about it.  I'm just having FUN!

But...I had to take a short break here because I'm about to go blind from staring at the screen for....oh....I've been on since 7:30am today.  LOL  Thought maybe I should eat, make coffee, and see what was up over here on MMORPG while I was eating. :)

Hey, Border....see ya in game!  Oh yeah, and just holler if you need food, my cooking skill is consistently increasing.  If you want, I can make you some pizza, tacos...lol...whatevs...ROFL!  And don't forget to come by my realm after I do the PvP overhaul.  I'll let ya know when it's done. :)  You might have a hard time findin' me there though, because I'll be stealthed and stalking prey.....bwahahahaha!  Prepare to battle to the death!  And you better not be haulin' around any gold bars, baby, or they're mine, mine, mine!  <evil laugh>

Looks very cool. I'm haven't registered for beta yet because the darn thing always says "closed". I'll try back a few times this weekend. Wish me luck

  • GorakkhGorakkh Member Posts: 694

Still cant get a account yet but hopefully in the next few days I will get lucky. Anyhow , I downloaded the game / map editor , been playing around with the map editor for a bit and It's pretty cool :P I find it quite amusing and neat that you can have arcade game machines haha   I look forward to playing with you guys in-game , maybe soon we can get a fake mmorpg.com guild running in game in the next week or 2 , would be cool.

I'm glad I spotted this thread!

This game looks phenomenal and I can't wait to try it! I too downloaded the editor and it's quite interesting.

It's hard to believe that such a high quality game would be free to play, which is good for me because my friends refuse to play subscription based games and I'm going to college soon, so I need all the money I can get.

Anywho, I'll see you guys in game (eventually)

I wish new games didn't use that crappy isometric view.  Hell, that was dated back in the days of Diablo!  It ruins the immersive feel of a game, for me, anyway.

Yes, unless they're aiming for a retro feel. In which case it might appeal to a few diehards but will put most people off.

As has been said, beta always seems closed atm.

How about the PVP ? Is there full or at least partial looting ?

I personally enjoy the isometric view a lot. In fact, in some games (this one for example) I would rather have an isometric view than any other view.

    But everyone has different preferences.

Also, I'm only 18 and I've never been really into gaming, I'm a very casual gamer. So I wouldn't call myself a diehard retro fan either.

well had a look but beta is closed. The editor is okay but seems pretty limited, can't really do any programming with it or anything.

Yes there is looting. Players can create zones that are pvp-enabled. Also, there are dungeons in pvp-enabled areas this way players have to be careful not to kill each other with friendly fire.

Is it partial or full well thats a tough one. When i first started it was most often full since most players gear had like low to zero 'persistence'. I think even my character has low persistence items.

    PErsistence = chance for drop

There is also permenant decay (durability) but it takes a long while for items to wear down (I think).

I have so much gear because community is so nice atm so I am always constantly switching out my equipment

I'm not sure if you will have a lot of opportunities to gank right now its still closed beta not sure how many testers they let in. For the longest times it was only 30 of us because they were real strict who they let in

Talked to questor last night it appears though they are letting more in and hes telling me a lot has changed since I was last active. So I'm just going from memory. I've been off/on testing this game for a long time now like 9 months or something. It's held my interest way longer then the avg closed test

I remember they were trying to make more user friendly way back when. But yeah the idea is for you to construct your 'realm' using the tools like a map editor. This isn't Second Life you can't code anything unless the editor has drastically changed since I built my pvp enabled realm

Isometric view allows you to see into other player's houses and see the items, monsters, and other wacky stuff they have in there. They're not trying to be 'realistic' per se but rather just do fun and wacky stuff.

To me an immersive game would be first person, low to rare magic, manual aim/dodge, and no teleportation. In this game vets can master teleportation for example.

This is true, i was talking to one of the higher ups in game, and he was talking of how the realm editor was due for a near total re-write
