MMORPG.com: Can you tell us, as of the answering of this Q&A exactly where Darkfall stands in terms of nearness to being a launch-ready title?

Tasos Flambouras: Darkfall could launch today. It's more ready for launch than most, if not all of the MMORPG titles at the same stage that I've personally sampled and it has been for quite some time.

That was back in early December. If they could launch back then, and were more ready than anyone else at that stage, why the delays? Also, if the game is in that good of a shape, why keep the NDA up through now, three weeks from their current release date? Let everyone see it for themselves. Open up the servers to a real open beta, let the media in, and drop the NDA. Let the game speak for itself.

They haven't done that at all. It's natural to question Aventurine and their claims as a result.

How is that untrue? It is far far FAR more stable than the past few MMO launch titles (Age of Conan and Vanguard). Rock solid servers, few bugs, rapid patching, yeah it could easily have launched in December. But oh wait, they want to take more time so that its as flawless as possible at launch? That's a BAD thing?

It's untrue because at that time all of the game features had not been implemented or tested. Many did not work properly when finally implemented and were either removed or reworked. Some features still have not been implemented. Some will never be implemented.  he necessary skill balancing has not been done It's a blatant lie. The game is incomplete that's why it was delayed.

lol, are you in beta? If not, don't make up this kind of crap based on the one malcontent leak. I love how, all the leaks up until then had been positive, but as soon as one person didn't like the game, everyone latched on to that and believed every word that came out of his mouth.

People have been saying Darkfall makes outlandish claims for years, considering that's from December, it doesn't really support the acusation too well.

What a lot of people need to learn to pull apart, is fan hype and dev hype. You have Age of Conan, spending millions of dollars making pre rendered and scripted videos spammed on every website and forum you can imagine, promising features that STILL aren't in the game a year later. And then you have Aventurine, who tell you exactly whats going on, and then go back to work, with little to no advertising.

No, what is a bad thing is you have said for years there will be no pre-orders and now there is.  What is a bad thing is you've said there will be a try before you buy, now there isn't.  What is a bad thing is that you are talking about a staged release because you've failed to plan your finances accordingly and you can't release the game to all of your fans.  The bad thing is you have no clue how to run a business.  Telling your fanbase "TOO BAD" their guild leader sucks so you can't get into beta is an extremely bad thing.  Those are bad things.

Wanting your game to be as good as it can be at launch is commendable.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

    Why of course!

I'm sure "rock solid" servers has nothing to do with only having a small handful of testers.

I'm sure "few bugs" has nothing to do with the massive amount of content that they "turned off for focused testing (LOL)".

I'm sure "rapid patching" has nothing to do with the game being in a crude early alpha stage at best.

Thanks for making my weekend champ.

The one thing you have to know about people that troll they have no life and they need the attention that no one gives them in real life.... I bet you that if people started talking positive about UO then they would migrate over there. Misery loves company.... The real question is, If you don't like a game why waste your time posting about it and go play something else? That's where it gets sad and funny, that their life is posting and not really playing games look at WoW forums for example. How do you complain about features in a game when you stay on the forums 24/7 posting 1st.

He went around to various forums calling Darkfall vaporware. He even made an account on the Darkfall forums and did it there, which was a mistake. Brannoc, the forums moderator, tracked the IP back to the Funcom offices. Poor sucker had to make a public apology.
Anyway, at this point in time, I think I was on the Age of Conan boards, back when that game still had a chance of not being terrible (that changed after 2006). Everyone on the Funcom boards started to go "lol vaporware" every time Darkfall was mentioned (including me) just because thats what "everyone else" (developer we talked about earlier) said.

So here, the vaporware fanboys were born. Then it became more widespread across multiple forums as the spam exponetially multiplied. Around this time I said "Hmm, I wonder what Darkfall is". I started a thread on the Age of Conan boards asking such and got 4 pages of "It's vaporware" with no elaboration. So I looked it up, and realized... it wasn't vaporware, and all these good people at the Funcom boards had something a little wrong with them.
The vaportrolls multiplied over the years, many firmly believing the game to be a hoax and that the company didn't even exist. 17 minute video came out, they said it was fake, pre rendered. Partnership between Audio Visual and Aventurine was announced, and people said that it wasn't an official agreement or that Audio Visual was a fake company. 30 minute video was filmed with a handheld camera, and they claimed that no one was actually playing the game, it was just a pre set up video. Beta went live and they claimed that it didn't exist and that no one was actually in beta. The website got DDOS and people said that they were lying about it.

Over 3-4 years of this kind of crap, you can tell why some fanboys became rabid. The sheer stupidity involved in these kinds of ramblings would drive most people mad.

     Absolutely false.

I got really into this game because I read the feature list and what it was about.  To be honest, you are exaggerating on a colossal scale...Seriously, go to any other forum on this site and see how many "Bow before Darkfall" posts you can find.  I am certain the percentage is about 0.000001%.

Here's the bottom line:  when the game does finally come out, trolls and fanbois alike will be playing it.

You miss quoted... here is the bottom line of the thread:

The problem with the fanbois boils down to the fear ONE word: VAPORWARE

Don't worry, I'm not calling out the DFO fanbois on this one alone. A lot of fanbois see the word VAPORWARE and panic. They all come a running with their tin foil hats on to defend their game from the troll and his sword of total uberness, the dreaded VAPORWARE word. No fanbois in their right mind will accept that word because they fail to educate themselves on what VAPORWARE is.

So fanbois, let's take you to school one more time on what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

I think once the fanbois get educated about the word VAPORWARE and realize it isn't the void of nothingness they think "trolls" are trying to cast their game into, a lot of the problems on MMORPG.com would disappear.

So to the fanbois everywhere, please, do not fear the word VAPORWARE. All it means is that it has failed to release yet. So calm down and stop thinking that those of us that use the word VAPORWARE are trolls. We are not. We are MMORPG fans just like you who happen to know the definition of the word VAPORWARE.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

I think www.mmorpg.com, www.mmosite.com, and the others is what's wrong with MMO's today.

They give us useless news and a hype system which people then think will determine how successful a game will be.

And the fanboys didn't bring it on themselves, people are just afraid of sandbox mmo's wiping the floor with the traditional easy mode <Mod edit> games you see like WoW, then they worry what will happen if they have no games to play that are easy and don't take skill.

No more sad and pathetic than the delusional jokers who believe stuff like:

"people are just afraid of sandbox mmo's wiping the floor with the traditional easy mode faggotry games you see like WoW, then they worry what will happen if they have no games to play that are easy and don't take skill."

You seemed to be clinging on to the "DF is no longer vaporware" argument as if it's your trump card. Let me give you one cold-blooded truth. You better hope Darkfall IS actually vaporware, because if the devs have the balls to release what they're currently showing the beta testers, the joke on the fanboys will be MAGNITUDES more hilarious than if DF never releases.

All of the leaks from beta testers are saying the game is amazing, could use some finishing touches, but it could very well be launched fine on the given Feb. date.

On top of that this entire website is filled with people who play WoW and WAR, that's all this site is, and when you guys see people saying your game takes less skill than the proposed ideas of Darkfall, you get all mad and butthurt and started trolling this forum.

No not at all.  The fan to troll ratio on these forums is like 1:30.  There are hardly any zealot fan's left, but there are tons of trolls talking about all the fanboys left and right.  They talk about how they worship Tasos, but can never back it up with a quote or example because 90% of the fans think Tasos is an idiot.  They constantly rehash the same old crap which is outdated and mostly false, but most of all they troll just to troll.  The fans have nothing to do with it.  The game hardly has anything to do with it anymore.  It is all about egos, e-peens, and hate.  Grow up people.

If I were a DF fan, I think that 'this game is real' is about the furthest I would go in the assertion department. Any other claims are likely to result in crow for dinner.

    The game does exist.

Is it amazing? no.  Combat is a boring 1-3 click-fest, the ui is clunky, and harvesting is another level of tedious grind.   Skills are not cleverly designed at all. Fighting skills replicate each other. Magic skills are simply one against the other. For example, one skill line buffs and one line debuffs, i.e. paladin vs dark knight.  Melee combat is incredibly easy and might as well be a targeting system, as you will never miss unless lag occurs.  Archery is actually done well and feels like an fps.  Magic is quite slow and easy to dodge.

The world lacks all sort of detail, reminiscent of asheron's call - i.e. lots of space, not too diverse on mob types, and circle portals as dungeons. The giant ocean feels like a giant lake, with nothing in it.  Doors in the game do not work.  Quests equate 'kill 4 mobs of x type, and collect gold."  There are no other types of quests in the game.  Different environments do not provide different surface mechanics - i.e. ice does not equal slippery.  Everquest had a lot more detail.  It's dissipointing to think certain game genre's haven't progressed in ten years.

There has already been an issue with those in Tasos's guild - i.e. Kill Cult - gaining admin priviledges and speedhacking, griefing cities that took some people weeks to build.

There is no end-game.  The end-game is depending on community politics and wars.  Rinse and repeat.

As far as bugs go...won't even go there.  Lets just say there are still bugs being fixed where one player can crash the whole sever.

Everything seems very half-assed in comparison to competition.  The open pvp is nice, but what's open pvp without a fun combat system.

All that aside, i'm all for supporting a small developer.  However, usually small developers offer something a bit more unique.  It feels like a lot of what they wanted was cut, most likely due to budget constraints and time.  There are free mmo's that offer non-lockon combat as well.  Just a thought.

Some valid points, some assumptions, some whining, and some of it is straight up what makes it an awesome game.  Almost any valid point you make the devs have already adressed themselves, and are working on or have explained exactly why it is like it is, and what their plans are.

You are twisting facts into some kind of trolling agenda, and twisting opinion into fact, but whatever.

    And yet you're here.

So it is a giant troll fest?

More like a few gems buried in a manure pile. Occasionally someone says something worth reading. The same is true of all forums.

So you're saying I'm a pretty gem buried in a manure pile? How sweet of you :)

No you're part of the pile.

    LMMFAO!

Well first off the OP got what he wanted,

Another post about darkfall, with people replaying the same shit as every other single post about darkfall.

What do you do with a dead horse that has been beaten till there is nothing left to beat?  I guess drag the carcus threw razor wire.

Now about the question.  How can you blame a fan of somthing, that is excited about somthing, for causing people who have nothing better to do, then bash on a game that no one has even played yet?

The problem isnt fans its people who like to be synical assholes and  have nothing better to do the ruin somone else fun.  Trolling sums up a persons life, or lack there of.  They would rather critisize everything somone else has good to say because they dwell in there own misarable existance.

Thats why 70% of our population are pieces of shit.  The other 30%  must tolirate them and be amused.

So we will post on this topic and listen to more bashers  until the next OMG! darkfall really really sucks topic comes up after they just read or saw a new screen shot release'd.
