Whoosh. Someone missed the point. This whole thread is about him apologizing for his "fanboy behavior". I was showing that he cleary exhibited no fanboy behavior on this website.
THE ONLY REASON WHY PEOPLE ARE EVEN VIEWING THIS THREAD IS BECAUSE THEY WANT TO GET MORE INFO ABOUT THE GAME. My God people, nobody cares about your little forum wars, this thread is useful because it provides information. Amazing how lost that concept is in a bulletin board of all places..Idiot (yes I had to edit just to add that)
The problem is that any negative opinion, no matter how well it is presented, gets shouted down by fanbois and the original poster gets branded as a troll.
The favorite tactic is to attempt to discredit the poster by any means possible. These petty people dig up old posts, look for any incinsistency and wave it around like a banner, all the while not realizing that no matter how much they shout and flame these so-called "trolls", it will not change the state of the game.
I have seen very few well thought out criticisms of the game. even less that got flamed.
Mostly I see a lot of people who have never played the game making ill informed, or downright false claims about it.
the funny thing is I could say the same thing about the hate orgy that has been going on here that you did about the fanboys.
I was "Hercules" on the DF official forums before I got banned during the second week of my beta experience. It happened the day after I created a page that went to 13 pages, comparing DF's combat to the Counterstrike knife combat.
It was subsequently locked and deleted, along with them banning my work IP, my beta account, and forum account. Yet by Signus's own admission (he's a moderator in IRC and was in beta with me), there were trolls that were really bad that didn't get banned. Aventurine cleared out the people who talked badly about the game, probably some of whom were trolls and bitched, and then those of us who followed the game since 2002 and made valid commentary throughout the years on it and followed it religiously. I imagine I was in the minority there, because there weren't many people with a join date earlier than mine (Signus included) so it was kind of entertaining to see me get banned after years of posts asking for information, giving feedback (before beta), and more.
If you search for my posts, they are almost all deleted. Kind of funny there.
Oh, i can imagine that must feel bad. Even if you not intend to ever play Darkfall, following and supporting for so long, and then ended like that must sucks. I sincerely hope you find some nice game for yourself, which will satisfy your gaming time. Same time i can understand you wrote apology on this forum, as you were banned there, althou there's nothing you need to make apologies for. You just wanted and believed Darkfall would be good game for you. I think everyone of us at some point had some game in similar place in our desires, like you had Darkfall.

That is absolutely true. Both sides act this way. I believe that at this point this little "conflict" has become personal for a lot of people.
I am here to apologise to a lot of you guys for the behavior I've probably exhibited in many places (not here often). I was registered with the DF Forums since November of 2002, and followed the game since then. Every so often I'd check back with any juicy updates, and with any new information I would spam them to my guild, my friends in real life (some of whom played WoW or whatever), and on different forums. And for my spamming and pushing of this game, I am sorry. Bla bla bla bla................
Look dude, since you like to apologise, now you will have to apologise to force your bullshit on us.
First of all who are you.
I mean I do not have a problem if a real fanboy with a track record apologies for being too nasty, but c'mon you just created an account only for that.
Secondly, how can you possibly apology for something you never did.
People accept apologies if you did something wrong and you want to put things right.
But I can't see any proof of your fanboy crusade, therefore your apologies are not needed.
The impression you gave to me is that of a hater who created a new account just to make another negative post by pretending to be an ex fanboy.
C'mon give us a break and come back where you came from.

And for my spamming and pushing of this game, I am sorry.
Why am I sorry, you might ask? Well for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which was my entry into beta. I am part of the reason that trolls for this game reason even exist. If I hadn't pushed it to everybody, there wouldn't be such a backlash. I pushed the game before I knew what it was about, and how it really worked. And to whom did I push it? First to my guild -- who are mostly ex UO players and were all ready for a good PvP game now that UO was patched into uselessness. Some more were other MMO players, whom were looking for something different. And a lot more, and from where the trolls spawn, are people that didn't care, or had more realistic expectations of what the game would be. Some of these folks went on to enjoy Darkfall as it was in beta, and others hated it. And the folks who didn't get into beta and read about it from fanboys like me just got annoyed and irritated, and rooted for the game's failure.
Beta was a mixed bag. I got into beta early January of 09, and immediately began downloading the patches, going crazy installing, eagerly waiting my chance to play. I had waited for 7 years for this game, and I wasn't about to let another second pass me by. After finally patching and launching, and the servers being up -- I launched the game to find it completely unplayable because of the lag. I was informed to turn off shadows (which I did), and the game state changed to something drastically usable and reasonably stable as well. Then again, my system was pretty good to run it as well. I was getting good FPS and ping around 100, which was not too bad. And then began my journey to find out about the PvP game I had waited so long for.
I played for a few hours the first day until the servers crashed and was really enthralled with the goblin AI, the first person point of view for archery and magic, and more. By the second day when I got home from work, I logged in again, having read all day at the forums at work I came home expecting to kick some serious butt since we were all pretty new at the game. I was on IRC throughout the day earlier too, telling my guild that the game was awesome, and I was having a blast. They were all intrigued too, and some started more eagerly awaiting their beta receipts. I logged on again, and now with a fresh look and tons of forum information, I started to play. And then I started to realize the things that made me a little uneasy. The animations were bad. Really bad. The sound effects were worse than Starcraft. Still though, a game wasn't made by graphics, or sound, was it? I found that when I ran up a hill I'd often "float" in the middle of the air. Beta problems, I assumed. They will be fixed. Then I got to kill some more goblins and after they got low on health, they started running away... here comes that awesome AI I thought, and then I stood watch as the goblin ran around in a retarded circle with no rhyme or reason. It was starting to settle in, that the game wasn't very polished.
Days came and went, and daily I'd submit bug reports, go into the forums and post about what needed fixing -- things like adding hotkeys for the map and backpack, or making the UI a little more utilitarian and less awkward. Things like how the towns didn't have finished content and that you'd run up stairs only to be tossed into a WALL, and would have to run back down to get off. And all this time, I came to defend the game when it was being ridiculed, when the early beta leaks came out and showed some poorly done feature. It's in beta guys I said, they have it in debug mode and the monsters aren't all turned on. And it hit me, that who was I lying to? Them, or myself? I am by profession an IT manager, dealing with systems and software deployments in a financial firm. "Debug mode"? What did that mean to me? And I would think about it -- debug mode means we turn on verbose logging. When we are beta testing, the features are all there because the end user needs to see the full product. And slowly I resolved to be a harsher tester than I was before, and giving the harsh feedback that needed to be given.
It started almost two weeks later that I came to that point -- playing a few hours a day I never really thought much about the combat because it was almost an afterthought. But seeing players macroing ingame on a regular basis, and how I lagged behind I was reminded of the worst parts of UO. And I realized then that this game makes you macro because there's really no way to earn it "by playing the game". The combat I finally realized, was bland and lifeless, the real skill in the game being 'organized' rather than anything else. A well organized group would lead others into hitting each other and killing themselves. The game mechanics like the rogue system were poor, and magic was a humungous grind. Not to say I couldn't macro it up like everybody else... I just felt it was a poorly implemented system. The one thing that really led me to quit was when a guildmate got into beta and asked, "How's the PvP compared to UO?", and I couldn't at that point sell out what I believe to still be the best PvP in ANY game. I told him flatly, "it sucks". The game would be fun for a while if you had a guild, but the lifeless PvP really ruined the game. A sandbox game is great, and DF has the elements it needs there -- but PvP is useless and boring and if it's not immediately, it will soon become stale. I'm not much of a "city sieger" because Shadowbane taught me early that I have to give up my social life in order to defend the town, so I didn't care much for that. I wanted open world PvP, duels, guild fights, etc. This game would simply not support it.
Now on launch day (or launch+1 at this point), I reflect back to think about how much I trolled the folks who were not looking to be trolled by a game I didn't even know that much about. Sure, some people will enjoy it, and those people largely come from anything OTHER than UO, and the ones who liked it in UO are usually part of a large guild (SUN comes to mind during the beta) because they are organized and do well. I can understand that. I am here to apologize for all the stupidity I let out in defending the game before I knew what it was, but a good lesson to be learned here is that I need to have far lower expectations for a game, and be untrusting and biased AGAINST the developer if I want to see a game actually try to appease the end user. I won't even go into how bad the PR or communication has been with AV, I think we all know it. I'm just here to say I learned my lesson and now as I turn my sights to Mortal Online I'll keep a bias that I didn't have with DF, lest I be disappointed or dishonest with myself, or become a troll and an annoyance to others.
Well i came to same conclusion after follow it for almost 6 years and played for 5 weeks beta, ive also sinds 2003 advertise on all kinds of furms how great this game would be and my HOLY GRAIL.
But when i started beta man it was a slap in my face what a big dissapointment this game is world looks great and for exploring its a great game but all you pointed out that a flawed and all the promisse featers over the years they said this game would have plus for long time saying this game is already finished to be launched even a year ago i saw a alpha stage game thats empty broken and not do what i thought it would do more complex combat and skills system and mob AI and quest system it was all a lie.
But i still have my hopes i give it a few months to become a more complete and improved game if not its my last mmo.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009..... In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
Your post took balls. I want the game to suceed but didnt expect too much (one of the few who learnt from failcom?!) but the fanbois wound me up something shocking. I felt a lot of pure pity for them and this post explains why for those who dont yet get it.
+1 cookies for you, Sire.
....alright cookies for everyone!!
Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man!

I guess I'm wondering why you are apologizing for being an "ex-fanboy" on this forum.
A look at your forum history here .. doesn't show you ever posting any "fanboy" type information here...
Maybe you were looking to apologize on another forum?

Yea he said he wanted to apologize on the DF forums. It appears that he is saying he forced Darkfall on people that were not interested in DF on the DF forums.

That's not exactly what he said and you know it. Did you skip that part which was saying how he hyped the game up to his friends and guild mates?
This is exactly what I'm talking about. Instead of commenting on an actual post, you pick something that doesn't sit well with you and blow it way out of proportion in an attempt to discredit the person in question.
Well, HerculesSAS... That was a fantastic post to read, and it felt like it came form the heart. I applaud yu for being mature enough and sensible enough, even on the internet, to stand up for yourself and your actions. I understand that people can get all giddy from excitement and anticipation when somehting new and shiny appears, I can understand that its easy to dream away on a pink cloud when you think somehting really kewl is happening and you will be part of it... But yes, there has been a serious and really aggressive abuse war in both forums betwee those with dreams..and those with reality. You now saw reality too. The same reality most of us has seen for 10+ years now with small companies giving promises through the roof that are impossible to cash in on, and their fans that buy every word just like a small group of peole throughout history has always been willing to be victims of con men and always through history can't even understand what is wrong when they throw money on pure fantasies and pretty talk.
I applaud your honesty, and I applaued your post. I wish more people could be as mature and sensible as you.
But unfortunatly, 90% f them will just make a new account with a new handle and do exactly the same thing again, Aggressive and abusive forum war over the "next big thing". it is way too much kindergarten over these forums, but as long as you can behave however you like, and be as abusive as you want as long as you support a "title", while those that say "wait a minute, now yer just making things up?" will get their threads locked and accounts banned.

His first two paragraphs are him apologizing for trolling and forcing the game on others? Almost half of his little wall is about how he is so sorry for how he acted. He is apologizing ("My apology the the trolls") to the trolls on a forum that he never trolled. But he says he wanted to post it on the DF forums....so he wanted to apologize to the trolls on the DF forums? Like I said in my first post why would he apologize to trolls in the first place? If he was going to random forums (he just happened to not troll on these forums, some of the biggest MMO forums around right??) why not apologize to the people he actually trolled in those forums....not trolls he never even said positive word about Darkfall to? His whole post is nonsensical so I called him out on it.
And you can believe his actual "Review" all you want. Just know it is from an early beta experience and 15+ patches ago. He was banned from beta and the DF forums for TONS of trolling.
This is directed to Strong axr and well fanboys of any game.
After reading the op's post i can see where hes comming from. He did a good explination on how he in the df forums on how he trolled those who knew little of the game ect.
Regardless if the op story is true or not, you need to understand the dmg that fanboys can do to a game. They do much more damage than trolls big time. They will hype the game, will make it look like its a golden jewel and dissing anyone who says otherwise. they do NOT tolerate people who give objective reviews or are skeptical about the game.
Ive seen how fanboys ripped people appart in the vanguard froums, claiming how flawless the game ran when it came out, that it didnt have bugs or lag ect. The same happened to many other games.
Fanboys deter how big a game community can get on the game they reside. By pouting out lies those who try it will finally see the truth and will add even more negative comments up to even more trolling.
Fanboys actually crate trolls.
Look back on the df fourms here. i can find alot of posts from fanboys making this game look more than what it was. When the NDA was lifted they were all proven wrong. this game was not a shiny piece of gold polished to the point that its brilliance will blind you. Its avarage by best. it does still draw my attention, but if i ever play it that will be after a few months.
now even though the game did not meet the expectations of the OP doesnt mean the game is terribad or horrible ect. People will enjoy it. but you cannot force your joys on others. Other people will shun it.
Stiff animations or small bugs does not deter me from playing a game. as long as it has fun concepts into it and those concepts attract me ill give the game a shot.
Heck I even player Horizons (istaria) after it fell in hands of the company that has it now. I like the idea of being able to play a dragon. You can check the froums and see that i even hit endgame in that game. The game had its bugs it did suffer from some lag, you make it to a spot you had to wait a bit for the mobs to spawn. But the concept of playing a dragon and actually completing most of the story of the game which is pretty darn good is what kept me playing.
Dark fall will have its good concepts. It is these that have the players who are already playing it happy. No one will change their minds about it.
On these fourms here on MMORPG.com these are not official forums. So you really cannot expect here to be happy land for your game. This game is not trolled as much as WOW and as you see wow has never suffered losses due to trolls.
But games have suffered losses due to lying fanboys.
I am a MMOROG player and i do give games a chance. I have played p2p and f2p games. I played ffxi. got to the point i hated it even i admit i did troll it but i matured as a mmorpg player and even gave it a second chance.
I do not discriminate games if they are pve, pvp or ffapvp. I have played em all and the games i have played it was some concepts of the game that attracted me.
If i come to these froums and see somthing that can deter me, like the fact this game has universal banks, i have my rights to post my opinion about it and why i dislike the feature. The last thing i need is some fanboy who will try to make that feature seem like a gift of god. I have had it happen which just turns me off.
Trust me there are many who dispite all they see want to give this game a chance. Watching fanboys paint the wrong picture will just send them elsewhere. We all have common sence and know never to belive a stupid troll post.
Watching Fanbois drop their soap in a prison full of desperate men.
To the OP: I did the same mistake with Vanguard. Thought it was THE game (Talking about VG post GU3)
Told people it was the best pve game, and they ... bought the game. Gave keys etc...
Then I opened my eyes and saw the disaster. I'm not a hater NOW but I see now VG won't be a polished game, only a small niche game for some dreamers HCG without real future. Something else wanted to say: as soon as I opened my mind and my eyes, I 've been bashed by VG's Cty. And I discovered the "Dark side of the moon". People seemed to be very friendly at the beginning, then agressive at the end of my sub. Called me troll, "go back to wow" etc. Like DFO"'s fanboys. They call us trolls because they don't want to see the reality. I know now it's a sign of something going wrong with a game. Try to bash Eve, nobody will care about it. Try to bash VG or DFO, it will be another World War.
It will be the same for DFO, small niche game for PVPers. Since this very bad experience, I always take care at all Red Flags. Even if I want to buy a game, i don't if I see many Red Flags. DFO has a lot of RF on it. That's why your post is usefull : and honest.
DFO will be the Vanguard of PVPers. Probably worst.
MMORPG companies are professionals of illusion. You have a blast at the beginning (ALWAYS), then you see the reality of the game, some days/month after. But you 've already bought the game + payed 2/3 month of sub: 50euros + 12X3. Even if you cancel your sub, they won. And you lost.
Thx again for your post and forget the fanboys (BL) , they are blind. Some of them will learn, like we did.

This has absolutly nothing to do with anything I posted in this thread.
In fact I encourge you or anyone to find me blindly acting like a feature is a "gift from god". I would also encourage anyone to find a post of mine where I bash someones intelligent opinion without providing a valid argument.

I most definitely read the post, and I failed to see how it was pertinent to what is being talked about in this thread. If you wanted to discuss your post you should have made a separate thread.....then I would be more than willing to discuss the topic with you.
Strongaxe is a funny guy. He is very persistent in trying to find ways to "defame" what I said, or lessen the impact.
The message I'm sending is a pretty simple one. Don't be a fanboy for a game you don't know anything about, don't push your views on others without having the full story, and keep your standards high instead of lowering them in order to be satisfied. There's a lesson to learn there for pretty much anything in life, just be realistic and fair to yourself.
He wants to go and criticize my posts, or say I didn't do anything *here* or whatever, it makes him look the sadder for it. I'm not here to argue the semantics of his posts, I'm just looking to make a point and the lesson I learned from following this game the the disappointment that ensued. I would like to spare others that annoyance and also encourage game developers (MMO or not) to be forced to a higher standard BY THE USERS.
I'm sorry Strongaxe you are so stuck on poorly salient points you are making over and over, but if it makes you feel better I think there are a handful of folks here who "LOLed" at your 'leet' posts, so if you want you can think about it while you go to the bathroom and rub one out. If you add a little Darkfall pr0n it might help too. The animated boobies are kinda cool.

I am just pointing out that your post did not make much sense, and that your disappointment in the game is based on outdated views. Also the main purpose of this thread is to make people dislike Darkfall, you can deny it all you want....it is what it is.

Peace,
Saddie
OP: That is actually a decent right up and review of DF. I am sure there will be many many more ex-fanboys joining your ranks.

That is absolutely true. Both sides act this way. I believe that at this point this little "conflict" has become personal for a lot of people.
All I did was post that he should take his personal qualms elsewhere. I visited this thread for information on the game. Nothing more.

I was just trying to explain why what you're asking for is not going to happen.
Good honest post from the OP. Good games are comming my friend, just be patient.

Seriously, I wish I could punch people through the screen.

Petty, man. Just petty.

"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force"
This has absolutly nothing to do with anything I posted in this thread.
In fact I encourge you or anyone to find me blindly acting like a feature is a "gift from god". I would also encourage anyone to find a post of mine where I bash someones intelligent opinion without providing a valid argument.
