This is the best mmorpg I have ever palyed in Terms of Graphics story and lore. I mean I am only level 9 so far but I have already been impressed a lot by it. The voice work on the NPC's, the full bloom effects and nice visuals. A game that can finally take advantage of my PC. I feel almost like If I am playing one of my favorite games. The witcher or Oblivion online with other people. This is trully one of the best games I have ever come across.
It maybe just that I come from 1 year of nothing but Free 2 play Korean mmorpgs, and before that 5 years of FFXI & Phantasy star online. I do not know if its normal for "New" mmorpgs to be as immsersive and breath taking as this game is. But right now It seems like the perfect game for me. A casual College student player. I joined a Server I think the name started with a W. I am now level 9 I choose the one class that the description almost sounded like it was a Dark Knight with one handed weapons. If anyone wants to send me a tell in game or something my names Agreian. I would really like a nice guild if possible so I can ask questions and show me the ropes...
I still can't belive just how good this game is. Im half waiting to see a hidden Cash shop pop up once I get to level 50 telling me "ooops If you want a mount, or want to advance past this you need to fork over 200 bucks!" hopefully that does not happen.

Glad your having fun. Let us what you think as you progress maybe? It's good feedback
That's how I felt about it, when I bought it. Finally, an MMO that felt like a real game, not some amateur mash of half-baked ideas. Just a solid quest grinder, with good graphics, music, even character development choices, rather than cookie cutter skills that are all the same. I'm happy with it.
Some people say it gets boring after a while, but that's true of even the best games, in my experience. I'm not looking for a game to spend the next two years playing, just another month or two.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Like Avery said...give us your feedback when youre out of Tortage and right around lvl 60 or so. I bet your opinion changes quite a bit.
You're aware that they recently added an entirely new zone for lv.60ish, full of quests and all?

To add to that, not only did they put in Ymir's Pass, which is a great zone, better than some of the originals, they have added a ton to other zones like Thunder River and Aztel's approach. I am playing a Barbarian that just hit 65 and I have not run out of quality quests yet; quest log is full of green, yellow, and some red quests. I am happy I have gone back to AOC after taking some time away to let them implement new content.
I am seriously looking forward to the item and stats changes too. If done well, it will possibly put this game back in a place where it should have been to begin with. It is as shame so many have been jaded by the issues (Mostly valid) as it is turning around nicely.

Look here, a poster with old information again.
Just a suggestion. If you do not play, then try not to interject opinion from old data.
Thanks to fleshed out quests, all levels are incredible now. I have a level 22, 30 and 62 . The 62 is finishing up Ymirs pass, and has a full journal for Thunder River. Great stuff.
Good luck, and enjoy the game OP.
Yes the graphics look nice but the combat is shite, the game is one instance after another and the quests are about immersive.
I am happy for you that you like this game.

Exactly. The complaint I now have is the quest log is too small. I can't take on anymore new quests, so I am constantly deleting quests I would still like to do, they need to fix this.
The combat is what??? Are you insane, there is absolutely nothing out there that can match AoC combat.
To each their own if you don't like the combat fine. The quests are extremely well written, give me a game with better writting, go on do it.
I think you have no idea what you are talking about. If you were complaining about the bugs and performance issues this game has I'd be right there with you as I can't play for 5 mins whithout disconnecting right now.
But you are flaming what the game does right. lol /facepalm

(,,,)=^__^=(,,,)
I agree about the instances, but thanks to this we have some better graphics which "almost" evens it out for me. Of course it would be better without instances.
As for the quests, I find the stories immersive and very much based on the conan hyborian lore. All good in my book.
Imho the quests are in the upper top of mmorpgs. Lotro is the only game with deeper stories, EQ2 is good too but not better, that's about it.
edit: and what are you saying about the combat? Are you on drugs or what? Ok, I agree it was a little slow when the game launched, but with the new changes it's some of the fastest and most furious I have seen. My barbarian is furiously ripping through mobs in 2-3 seconds, easily taking on 5-6 mobs at once, with fatalities, heads rolling and blood splitting all over. The dark templar is awesome too with the new improvements.
It's some of the best combat I know off, together with but more involved than the games like Lineage 2, the rest is all extremely slow and boring crap to me.
I am happy for you that you like this game.

Thanks for sharing your personal opinion. Many of us who ARE playing right now, enjoy this game. The issues you state are personal issues and has nothing to do with how good the game is. I, for example, do not enjoy open worlds so much due to the laggy affair of invisible zones, which cause many quirks (Vanguard and LOTRO being two examples of horrible hitching). And thanks to the "instancing" I can get some pretty incredible visuals.
And if you think combat is shite, then this means you were doing it wrong, and did not understand the layers and concept. Either that or kept getting ganked on PvP servers...lol.
As to immersion..guess the low quantitiy of kill 10 x quests and having to read actual stories in quest text is killing you, and I feel for you. Maybe it is the missing Elves and Dwarves that throw you off...I am unsure. For me, the world feels like a Conan novel. Go read one sometime, then login, and then you will know what immersion is.
Thanks for the input though.
I'm glad you guys are having fun with AoC.
I did my time. I maxed a toon. I quit. I will NEVER give Funcom another penny. You laugh at those who have left, but if you were there from the beginning and you are still playing then you are obviously more of a glutton for punishment than most of us are.
Yeah, the graphics rock. Yeah, Tortage was a wonderful experience. Yeah Yeah Yeah...
They may fix this game and make it great, but it'll be great without me and all the people who felt cheated by Funcom. Personally, I'll take gameplay and content ANYTIME over flashy graphics that even the best rigs choke on.
Bottom line is this: Funcom screwed this so badly that even if it someday becomes the greatest game ever, most people won't play it again because of the way they were treated at the beginning...
the OP was very vague in his post and makes me wonder if he even plays. not knowing what server you chose or what class you chose makes me wonder a bit.
i quit playing in september after starting in open beta. been wondering if i should get back into it or not.
I'm glad you're having fun, OP
Whether you'll still like the game in a month or two or not is irrelevant. You're having fun now, so it's all good
15 euro for AoC with a free month is a bargain now. I'll try it to kill some time until the dust around you-know-what settles.
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!
On we sweep with threshing oar, our only goal will be the western shore."
I think he hasn't tried the game with the new combat improvements. He has probably played at launch when the combat was slower and when it had much longer key sequences, especially at the higher levels, which made it a little cumbersome. Combat is much better today. (at least dps melee)
one thing i've learned from playing mmo's is DO NOT judge a game before you've gotten to higher levels, the game changes and boredom often sets in.
as for conan i got up to lvl 43 then got too bored to log in again... just my opinion.
voice work is gone soon too.
play:LoTRO status: dragging
tried: WAR, FFiX, WoW, Guildwars, Silkroad, Vanguard, AoC, Sword of the New World
I'm not sure what people feel is so extraordinary about AoC combat?
Yeah the fatalities look cool (at first)..but that isn't what I consider to be the definitive feature when looking at combat. If we are talking about the "Dance Dance, Revolution" style key pressing for melee---It makes no sense in a MMORPG at all, and the thing that makes even less sense about it; is that it only applies to melee. If you roll a spell caster then the combat is the same as any other MMORPG. Yeah there is spell weaving....but that's virtually useless, I mean it looks good, but it has zero functionality.
Looks good, but useless.....I believe we have discovered the foundation on which "the house of AoC" was built.
Eureka!
What's extraordinary is that with the new improvements it's fast and furious, as opposed to slow and boring (talking about melee dps here, don't know about casters).
Take 2 examples:
Lotro champion:
My lotro champion is level 48. Fully maxed out with top sharded mastercrafted gear, top weapons, top jewelry with +strenght + destiny for max damage and criticals, max attack speed deeds, vastly improving critical deeds, etc. After partying a lot I can fairly say that my guy is in the higher top of the champs in my level range on my server.
What's the problem? Combat is the first and the no 1 feature in mmorpgs, this is what you do most of the time throughout the game. Melee DPS classes must be fast and furious, otherwise there is NO point to them. So what did the lotro guys do? They totaly screwed the no 1 game feature up. My guys is sooo extremelyyy slooooowwwww and boring. This is the thing that should be fast and fun, you know, like what the tenis player Boris Becked was called: "Boom boom".
AoC Barbarian:
Now compare this with the AoC equivalent: the Barbarian, ripping through mobs in 2-3 seconds (and the more mobs you take on the faster he goes), fast and furious with fatalities, head rolling, blood all over, RRRAAAWWWRRRRR he is a machine gun ...and most importantly SPEED. It's a DPS class for christ's sake.
There is only a handful of games who know how to make combat FUN (at least for dps classes). These are AoC and a couple other rare games like Lineage 2 (also several Asian games). As for the 98% of the western mmos, Lotro, EQ2, etc... it's a slooowww boring crap combat. Geez this is what we do 90% of the time for months in those games, it should be fun, no?
The no 1 feature must be FUN. This is what it's about.
I see where you are coming from Mango, but I didn't find the combat system in AoC THAT much different than the other games out there.
AND... I don't want to play my MMO with an X-Box controller. Mashing more buttons, faster does NOT equal better or advanced combat to me....
Well if 60+ sucks I will see about it when I get there. I mean I just changed classes because I wanted to try out something else. Right now I am playing a Barbarian in the RP-PvP server. I don't mind getting PK'd or corpse camped its something that y ou put yourself into if you join those servers willingly knowing. So I am ok with it.
I like AoC so far having a good time with it. By the time I ever get 60 (like 5 months from now) I am a very casual player though and only play Thursday nights Friday's and Sunday mornings. Im sure there will probably be more content then.
And what do you mean the voice work stops? NPCs stop giving quests with actual voice at higher levels and its all text?
When I was playing content took a SERIOUS downturn/decline about lvl 30. I hear they have added more quests though. Grinding to lvl cap was a real chore.
and yes, the voice acting pretty much disappeared after leaving Tortage. I don't think we even got voice acting when we met Conan for the first time.
You are probably not playing a melee dps class then, because it's almost not possible not to see a difference with the slow boring combat we have in western mmos.
No you don't understand. It not "mashing more buttons faster". It's your guy who attacks faster. He hits faster with his swords and the enemies health goes down faster (to compensate the enemies also hit harder in AoC).
I play with my mouse and keyboard.
And it works out like all of the other mmos for me: I move with my mouse + left/right click and my fingers are on 3 buttons (1-2-3 ; for advanced combos I sometimes also need q-e accessible with the same fingers without moving the hand), that's it. The skills I launch with my left mouse click. Absolutely NO DIFFERENCE and NO MORE buttons mashing than all of the other mmos I have played, and I have played many.
It's exactly the same mouse and hand/finger position and clicking I use in Lotro, Aoc, EQ2, Lineage 2, etc... So I really don't see what you are getting at.
They have added voice acting to many of the important quests between level 20-80 with the patches. It's still not complete, but its coming.
