That made me chuckle, theres a small vid here of a mount thief. Its good to read that the majority who are actually playing the game are enjoying it, even with the mishaps its had so far.
In my opinion, one of this games biggest problems is the over the top hyperbole, from both the fans and the detractors.The titale of this thread being a perfect example.
I've now seen the game in action first hand, a close freind has been playing since launch, I sat next to him for a couple of hours worth of play session. He is an old time UO player, he was a miner camping PKer pre trammell, and he loves this game. I suspect he is the exact target market.
First off pvp. Its 'good enough' . Somewhat simplistic (with the premise that no one has higher end skills yet, I dont know how much this will actually change), but everyone doing it is having fun, which is, to be fair, the whole point. How much of the fun is down to the new game factor only time will tell. The game world itself is nicely done, large map, well detailed environment. The rest is amateur hour.
Character models, animation, Mob AI , Magic progression , Crafting progression (both are simply rediculous grinds of mind numbing clickfests) , trading system so a player driven economy can actually function, and most of all customer service are poor in the extreme as the game stands right now.
The only question you should ask, is can the good of the first part make up for bad in the second.
Not for me, but for my friend , as I said earlier, it can. If this game were not being charged at full AAA title money, I could perhaps look past the customer service failings, and some of the incomplete or badly thought out parts, but the truth is they are charging what Blizzard, SOE et al do. And regardless of how good you think any of those companies games are, they do have proper product support as part of the entry cost. There are miniclip.com java games released this year that have more polish than Darkfall, so I cannot agree with the thread title. If all that concerns you though is PvP with fulll loot, and you can look past its failings, you may enjoy it.
I've been reading this forum for a while, trying to get accurate information on this game, I played Ultima Online so it does seem like a step back to the good old days, thanks for this, it seems one of the fairest reviews I've read.

best game? no, probably not. i would put TF2 as best game released in last 10 years. best MMO? yes, DF is at the top of my list of best MMOs, displacing DAOC & EVE from the #1 position.
i can't imagine how good DF will be once the servers mature and the city states and their politics really emerge. even without the high-level conquest meta-game, the group-v-group i am having almost daily is second-to-none.

My hunch is we will all find out that DF is a niche game with some great ideas, but not enough content to satisfy the diehard UO and D2 fans that will flock to it. Enjoy it while you can though.

Hey there everyone. I have been playing this game almost non stop since the servers actually worked (I was in beta also, but i only played a bit cuz I couldnt get into a character that was going to get wiped) I just wanted to say, that I honestly feel that this is the best game that has come out in the past 10 years. I'm sure this thread will be ripped to shreads.. and I'm OK with that. I just decided to post my opinion. I really dont feel like writing a wall of text to justify it, which I'm sure will be a complaint by some people. I really dont even know how to quantify why (another thing that will be pointed out by posters below me im sure) But it is unbelievably fun... I am an old school UO player, who has never been able to enjoy an MMO since AC-DT, so I guess I'm your pretty generic darkfall hopeful. If you fall in this group, you will most likely easily understand why darkfall is so fun. I can tell you that because of the world design, it is more immersive than UO ever was. The PVP might not yet be as balanced, but it is crazy fun... If you are really only interested in the contemporary games that have been released that are similar to World of Warcraft, thats fine. But I would suggest trying it as well. There isnt much of a loss, unless you work at McDonalds and $55 is a lot of money to you, or if you are already truely content with the game you are currently playing. You can say that the devs are rude, arrogant, and have no understanding of business and I would agree with you. What they do have is an immense passion to create a game that they wanted to play. And it shows just by playing. This game in a few years after an expansion or two will most likely be better than UO ever was. I already am enjoying it almost as much (and UO was my 1st MMO ever so thats just insane). I finnally have that feeling again where I want to play non stop.. I dont want it to ever end. Every morning its hard to go to teh gym and study (I still am doing it, cuz I have more restraint then when i was 14) I thought I would never feel it again. Anyway, you hear so much crap on this site and many other sites about people who expected it to have game mechanics beyond crysis in an open sandbox MMO... or just wanted it to fail for one reason that I cant understand or another So give it a try.. you will likely be happy you did.

Sure its a nice game but there is still so many that need to be improved or removed that this game is far from perfect or any good.

This is only sold in a pack of seemingly none its a pain in the ass to get a copy which means its a pain in the ass period.
Mostly because we will be paying money to a company that can hardly sell you the product lets see it run down the road when they start hot fixing and tinkering with shit like they know what there doing.

Why would D2 fans flock to this game? All D2 was was a loot finding game. DF's allure, for me anyways (I'm sure there are others) is sieging, politics, and the meta game that comes with it. All the elements for a great political land scape is present. All the game needs now is player housing and guild/player ran stores.

I generally look for the "restraining orders waiting to happen" around MMORPG.com in the SWG Vet forum. Has made for some pretty entertaining/train wreck reading the past 3+ yrs. I thought the Darthster could only handle so much twitching between posts, like Don Knotts on crack, so he would take vacations from the vet forums to avoid a total melt down.
Turns out he has been over here, living in Candyland, as well.

You know it is funny seeing these types of posts, and folks not mentioning EQ as the best MMO of the past 10 yrs. Had SOE spent their profit from game reinvesting it into EQ, instead of financing EQ2, then perhaps they could of been the ones to nail on the idea of "polished content".
Instead of running folks off over their half finished expansions, that they felt they needed to launch twice a year. Although I will always be a EQ fanboi, this is something I fault SOE for.

I can tell you this........if Ultima Online opened a server that was old school and ver much a sandbox game.........Ultima would have a billion people come back........but they would also have to get there economy under control and not allow the selling of gold off 3rd person farmers...on the web.
im sorry but the GM team for DFO had better be noobs cause anyone whose done time as a GM for any game KNOWS 100% you dont talk to the player when you get a report.
you get the report. look it over, monitor the player while checking server side logs (yes EVERYTHING you do/say is recorded HAHAH) and review logs to see if more reports of that player are there.
then they monitor the player in an invisible state. to see if they are cheating.
THEN and only then do they confront the player. generally its a Hello, you are now banned for cheating congradulations. and have a great day (my all time fav response anyway ^_^)
i spent 6 long grueling years as a GM along time ago... both volunteer and paid... never did i ever confront them right off with the question (are you cheating) cause that does 2 things
1) they know they are reported so they stop
2) they run off. so you cant catch them anymore. or they change toons.
it was GM training 101. never show your self to any players outside of the noob town (when helping noobs with general npc location/quest stuff) least of all when tracking a hacker/cheater (or reported anyway)
for every 20 reports of scam/hacker only about 1 or 2 are real the rest are little timmy pissed off as joe shmo just raped them for the 4th time in a duel or they traded/bought an item for 1000gold they can buy the exact same from from an npc for 1g.... lol
though its kind of bias to call DF the best game in 10yrs as it only just launched. course im bias i still say age of empires 1 is the greatest RTS of all time even if the graphics suck now days compaired to company of heroes and such...

You know it is funny seeing these types of posts, and folks not mentioning EQ as the best MMO of the past 10 yrs. Had SOE spent their profit from game reinvesting it into EQ, instead of financing EQ2, then perhaps they could of been the ones to nail on the idea of "polished content".
Instead of running folks off over their half finished expansions, that they felt they needed to launch twice a year. Although I will always be a EQ fanboi, this is something I fault SOE for.
Because other than introducing that final all important element of "polish", how much did EQ bring to the genre? I dont think more than 1 or 2 games can make the same claim.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
yes, ive been playing DF since release (also played beta) this is the best game since UO/AC1
AMAZING game, hope they can afford more servers soon so others can experience the amzingness of darkfall.
I can tell you this........if Ultima Online opened a server that was old school and ver much a sandbox game.........Ultima would have a billion people come back........but they would also have to get there economy under control and not allow the selling of gold off 3rd person farmers...on the web.

im sorry but the GM team for DFO had better be noobs cause anyone whose done time as a GM for any game KNOWS 100% you dont talk to the player when you get a report.
you get the report. look it over, monitor the player while checking server side logs (yes EVERYTHING you do/say is recorded HAHAH) and review logs to see if more reports of that player are there.
then they monitor the player in an invisible state. to see if they are cheating.
THEN and only then do they confront the player. generally its a Hello, you are now banned for cheating congradulations. and have a great day (my all time fav response anyway ^_^)
i spent 6 long grueling years as a GM along time ago... both volunteer and paid... never did i ever confront them right off with the question (are you cheating) cause that does 2 things
1) they know they are reported so they stop
2) they run off. so you cant catch them anymore. or they change toons.
it was GM training 101. never show your self to any players outside of the noob town (when helping noobs with general npc location/quest stuff) least of all when tracking a hacker/cheater (or reported anyway)
for every 20 reports of scam/hacker only about 1 or 2 are real the rest are little timmy pissed off as joe shmo just raped them for the 4th time in a duel or they traded/bought an item for 1000gold they can buy the exact same from from an npc for 1g.... lol
though its kind of bias to call DF the best game in 10yrs as it only just launched. course im bias i still say age of empires 1 is the greatest RTS of all time even if the graphics suck now days compaired to company of heroes and such...
