Then SOE borfed it up. And then let it idle along with no developmeht, just milking the subs for years. Then they borfed it up more. And then even MORE, which I didn't think possible, but apparently if you put SWG and EQ2 developers and community party planners on an MMOFPS, yes, it is possible to screw it up more.

Agreed, Planetside definitely had some of the most amazing fights ever. I loved that game when it first came out. The most intense large scale combat I've ever had in a game.
I was a pilot/infiltrator and sneaking into a base filled with enemies to take over the control room was incredibly intense. Especially when they knew that you were there and were looking for you.
Fuck Sony for messing up one of the best games in the last 10 years.
Let's look at some of the games made in the last 10 years. Half Life 2 Counter Strike 1.6 and Source Team Fortress 2 Fallout 3 The Halo Triology Super Smash Brothers Melee The Sims Battlefield 1942 Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic Diablo II Perfect Dark Unreal Tournament (Starcraft barely missed the cut...1998, along with Fallout 2 and Ocarina of Time) That's just a few. So, no, you're completely and utterly wrong.
I agree more or less with the list but i would add
Metal Gear Solid Series
Final Fantasy Series
and last (Not on my list but on a list of 10 something Milions the propably most played game ever in Hours) WoW
Hey there everyone. I have been playing this game almost non stop since the servers actually worked (I was in beta also, but i only played a bit cuz I couldnt get into a character that was going to get wiped) I just wanted to say, that I honestly feel that this is the best game that has come out in the past 10 years. I'm sure this thread will be ripped to shreads.. and I'm OK with that. I just decided to post my opinion. I really dont feel like writing a wall of text to justify it, which I'm sure will be a complaint by some people. I really dont even know how to quantify why (another thing that will be pointed out by posters below me im sure) But it is unbelievably fun... I am an old school UO player, who has never been able to enjoy an MMO since AC-DT, so I guess I'm your pretty generic darkfall hopeful. If you fall in this group, you will most likely easily understand why darkfall is so fun. I can tell you that because of the world design, it is more immersive than UO ever was. The PVP might not yet be as balanced, but it is crazy fun... I have already had countless experiences that remind me I am in a sandbox. from people jumping me while I'm at half health and getting WTFPWNED by my friends they didnt see.. to my mount getting ninja stolen from some guy that jumped down on it from a tree and rode off into the sunset, and many more If you have any interest in Darkfall, I just want to suggest that you try it with an open mind. If you are really only interested in the contemporary games that have been released that are similar to World of Warcraft, thats fine. But I would suggest trying it as well. There isnt much of a loss, unless you work at McDonalds and $55 is a lot of money to you, or if you are already truely content with the game you are currently playing. You can say that the devs are rude, arrogant, and have no understanding of business and I would agree with you. What they do have is an immense passion to create a game that they wanted to play. And it shows just by playing. This game in a few years after an expansion or two will most likely be better than UO ever was. I already am enjoying it almost as much (and UO was my 1st MMO ever so thats just insane). I finnally have that feeling again where I want to play non stop.. I dont want it to ever end. Every morning its hard to go to teh gym and study (I still am doing it, cuz I have more restraint then when i was 14) I thought I would never feel it again. Anyway, you hear so much crap on this site and many other sites about people who expected it to have game mechanics beyond crysis in an open sandbox MMO... or just wanted it to fail for one reason that I cant understand or another So give it a try.. you will likely be happy you did.
weird, the qualiteis YOU want in the best game in the last 10 years, all center around griefing.... not great/innovative crafting, housing, exploration, mounts, deep storylines, prestige classes (which df cut out), not even an interesting/complex combat system - nope, none of those. your qualifications center around the "freedom" to grief in any form you desire.
wow.
obviously, a doom2 fps-level of play, just isn't my bag. the freedom to grief others in a myriad of styles, also isn't a huge draw for me.
best game of any genre for the past ten years?? eve online, city of heroes, perhaps even ryzom or wow; but darkfall? not a snowball's chance in hell that this graphically dated (again judging from the pve/introduction to the game videos, not the pvp videos and not from playing retail), animationally challenged, non-complex combat, non-innovative crafting joke of a game would be the best game in the past decade --- most hyped junk in the past decade, sure, i'd go for that one.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

You know, damian, you could just not play it.
I have played all the games you listed and with the exception that EVE is close, no other one of those provides even near the level of immersion that Darkfall does.
Another, "I haven't played, but my friend has", post...
ok..
Another 'I have nothing to say to counter this so I'll post complete drivel' post...
How about you explain where I posted anything that isnt true.
I have seen the game running first hand.
You broke one of the main rules of DF.
You posted criticisms of DF without immediately spinning them into non-existence, including a negative reference to or blaming WoW and/or "WoW kiddies" least once, however tenuous the connection.
Thus, they had to find a way to attack you as the poster.
It's the DF way.
I've seen posts in here that were 95% positive. The poster had one or two critical comments, and they were flamed for it.

Why do fans act like they sell thousands upon thousands. They only sell what hundred or less then close shop. They havnt even reached 10k yet.
Stop jumping the gun. Wait till the reach normal mmorpg sub numbers before you act like DF is popular.
Everyone wants to try a new mmorpg. Not to many will continue paying for one.
Let's look at some of the games made in the last 10 years.
Half Life 2
Counter Strike 1.6 and Source
Team Fortress 2
Fallout 3
The Halo Triology
Super Smash Brothers Melee
The Sims
Battlefield 1942
Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic
Diablo II
Perfect Dark
Unreal Tournament
(Starcraft barely missed the cut...1998, along with Fallout 2 and Ocarina of Time)
That's just a few. So, no, you're completely and utterly wrong.

id like to say it's undoubtly wow.
Its so amazing and get flood of people addicted to it.
Tbh, I almost took the day off work to sit around and make arrows all day.
Then I realized thats a very dark road to go down, and went to work.
WoW nerds beware, I come equipped with lazers and anti-QQ missiles. If you mess with me, I will $%£@ you.

Going to have to go with World of Warcraft being the best game made in the last 10 years.
Numbers never lie.
