It looks like according to the WAR faq page, that you provide your credit card info to re-activate.
Then you have to cancel your account before your ten days expire. If you do NOT cancel before the ten days are up, they are charging you with the credit card you gave. Is that how you read this, Stradden?
Because they say "recurring" charges, so I figured if you didn't have an ACTIVE account already, they'd charge you first for one month, then give you ten "free" days. Then if you didn't cancel, you'd get RECURRING charges each month.
I don't think they are as clear as they should be if that's the case. Confusing to say the least either way.
I don't think so. I'm 99.99% sure that you re-activate, get 10 days. if you don't cancel before the end of 10 days, you're charged for 30. That's the only way this works as a re-assessment offer. otherwise it's a bizarre screwjob that just doesn't make sense.
Well, the way it reads to me is that you have to update your credit card info first, then you start your 10 free days. At the end of that time, they'll charge your credit card if you haven't cancelled yet.
This would be a typical method, but no idea how they implemented it since we've seen two posters with entirely different stories so far.

that is exactly the case... and i am a little surprised that this guy keeps arguing it. Just like any MMO free trial, they ask for credit card info, if you don't cancel before the trial is up, they charge you for the upcoming month. Most games will let you cancel as soon as you are done activating the trial, then you still have your 10 days to play with no fear of being charged.
I really think this guy understands that, and is intentionally trying to scare people away from taking advantage of the offer.
Well as usual with Mythic, I think I'll wait and see.
That used to be just towards the gameplay and if they would fix things like casting lag (which they haven't yet) but now it seems it appears to things such as billing concerns.
Unless you were planning on resubbing for the whole month already if you returned, I personally wouldn't recommend it until you got in touch with Mythic for yourselves instead of taking my opinion that they charge you first, or someone else's opinion that they don't charge you. Also, few people will probably remember to cancel before those 10 days are up because it's just like a rebate. And very few people send those things in, and I'm sure Mythic like any company, knows that full well.
@ Biz, to come out and say people are 'lying' is really unfair here. It's obvious there is enough question either way and the way they have their FAQ written, it can go either way. Are you sure every other MMO requires returnees to submit credit cards while trying out a "Come back and check us out" offer? I don't remember LOTRO doing that when I came back. They could have, but I didn't remember that.
Why there isn't just a code to enter for returnees (as they sent me a direct email) to enter and check out the game again makes little sense to me. The fact that Mythic asks for my credit card "for billing purposes"... what billing purposes? You already have my account listed, you sent it to my email account. I'm not saying I'm subscribing again... it's called a "trial". It's not super hard to reload the content, put in the "FREE 10 DAY" code you should have sent, and check it out without needing a collateral source. Weird.
They might be in a situation where they charge you for the 30 days upfront, but do NOT charge you for the ten days if you cancel fast enough and you really don't have to be reading too much into that to come to that conclusion. You simply have to read the F.A.Q.
In any event, it's a shrewd move to do so these new subs fit in with the Q1 totals for 2009. Someone opening this account for the free days, charged for the first month then cancelling would surely be added as a "new sub" towards total "current subscriptions" for the Q1 amounts; which is why the credit card thing is suspicious.
Stradden, no industry contacts to put this to rest? The average person is not going to be able to contact Mythic in any reasonable timeframe to confirm/deny any of this. I'm sure one email to the many sources you may have accrued over the years as a journalist could really put a light on things.
I have 2 friends resubbed, it does not charge you unless you dont cancel after 10 days. The guy arguing that it does is either misinformed, or trying to scare people away from trying it again.
On topic, I am definetly coming back. No the game isnt perfect, not by a long shot. It is however the most fun I have had in an mmo in a long time. The new classes are a blast, things are a lot more balanced, and a lot of the bugs have been worked out. Still nothing expectional for the PvE crowd (except public quests), but If you enjoy PvP I would definetly recommend checking it out.

Firstly, are you a current subsciber to Warhammer? It sure sounds like you are.
If you are, then you do not know for sure, even though you say it clearly reads that way to you, and you know 100% they won't charge anyone. Until someone resubmits credit card info and has a few days pass to see if they are charged is the only way to know for sure. To the contrary, someone in this thread already stated they did get charged under this offer already. That would be enough for anyone to put this offer in doubt, especially based on the terms.
I have no idea why you assume it 100% the way you say, based on Mythic's F.A.Q. not saying anything about "free" in it. Who cares if you think I'm intentionlly trying to scare people away? Are you playing it? If so, then it doesn't matter. If you aren't but was thinking of RETURNING, which is who this is offer was aimed to in the first place (not you, so shhhh) then these are legitimate questions. You are already happily paying for your sub. This would be me in this situation, not you. So as something that this does not really concern, I have no idea why you are simply not in the game playing and are here worrying about it, since your subscription is not in question.
You seem to give people who have played WAR in the past and weren't too impressed little credit to make up their own minds. Anyone thinking of coming back certainly doesn't want a surprise, or be used simply as a marketing gimmick, then later have to ask for a refund. I think the question is legitimate as they sent me this email, not you. And I am certainly not asking someone like you who is playing and enjoying the game "What do you think this offer says?" for the same reason you accused me of scaring people off.

Being a current subscriber, I have access to the games official forums, where the subject has been discussed at length. The forums have pretty decent dev interaction, and this issue has already been clarified. I'm not posting a guess, just the facts. You should not be charged before the 10 days are up.
I posted this info yesterday on my guild forums and a couple of my buddies are already back in game with no charges to their cards. Here's hoping they like the changes to the game, because I haven't enjoyed a game this much in years.
I wouldn't return for a free month even as I didn't managed to find the strength to last past the first free month I had when I bought this 'game'. WAR no DaoC2 as promised(huge rvr), but a lousy WoW pvp/bg clone, that's why I stay away from it. Even read some time ago that they limit the numbers in rvr now and even boot you if you don't meet some predefined criteria
First Mythic does not charge the full amount of a months worth of play when you reactivate your card, they charge 1.00 to make sure your card is valid, and that gets refunded almost immediately.
Second, I find the reasons of some of the players that don't want to play the game so funny. They make it seem like a personal offense if the game doesn't meet certain criteria and they just absolutely will refuse to play it.
What ever happened to just being a gamer, and just playing games to try them because they might be fun. I know I will be returning for the 10 days free, will I stay after that? I probably won't. Hell I might not even get through the first 3 days... but if nothing else, this game is worth another try.
All you pessimistic gamers need to throw caution to the wind and actually play some games.

Thx for posting this.
This was not a "ploy" or a conspiracy to stop people from subbing to Warhammer, lol. It was a valid question whether people choose to see it that way or not. Apparently, they DO charge you one dollar, as that poster above said, but that's hardly a substantial amount. But I guess in terms of full clarity, people were right in saying Mythic was charging them, if that's the case. They just never said how much Mythic was actually charging their cards.
Some people don't like the idea of even one dollar (in this case) not being mentioned in the terms and conditions and perhaps that's why the differing accounts of charge/no charge.
Again, no one is trying to derail Mythic. They have done a pretty good job at that themselves, so no help is needed. People will buy what they think is fun, that's the bottom line, no matter if one fan thinks is the most fun he's had in years, or whether another person finds it boring as hell.
Originally posted by popinjay Apparently, they DO charge you one dollar, as that poster above said, but that's hardly a substantial amount.
It certainly isn't a substantial amount, given that it's refunded almost immediately. Having to pay those $0 trials will ruin most people, though, making it truly outrageous.
I am actually pretty upset about this "Come back to the game" program. I literally resubscribed the day before (2-3 hours before midnight) because i had been wanting to try the game out again. I personally don't think it's right that i'm not allowed into this program considering i was going to resubscribe anyways, and did. I mean when you buy something at a store and the next day it goes on sale most of the time you can go back to the store and they will refund you the money that the sale had taken off the price tag.
I have emailed support about this and have yet to recieve a reply, but i have a feeling they will deny my request. It just doesn't seem fair to me.

That's just bad luck (timing) on your part. Nothing much Mythic can do about that really, or should they.
When you resubbed, you signed up because you wanted to try the game again, not because they were giving out incentives. There really isn't any reason to be upset here since you are getting what you asked for, I guess. Which is fun, so you got what you asked for: a new sub with no inducements.
They put in the enticements to those of us who did not find the game particularly fun overall and problem ridden, and would need extra bribing to even consider it at this stage of the development of WAR. The incentives are for those people, not for those who were coming back anyways without goading.
Why do you think they owe you more than just trying it out again, after you already agreed to no bonus?
No I won't be going back. I thought about it when I saw the e-mail but then I thought about why I left. Nothing I've read about the game since suggest the reasons why I left have changed. PvE still appears to be boring. RvR is the main focus at the expense of PvE. Classes don't seem to have changed. I don't see anything to suggest that people don't still scenario grind or simply zerg and rush when it comes to RvR.
Nope. The design of Warhammer Online in general simply isn't for me in the end. No amount of new content, balance changes, etc will draw me back it seems.
that is exactly the case... and i am a little surprised that this guy keeps arguing it. I couldn't agree more.
I personally just reactivated using a reloadable card, that has NO FUNDS AT ALL remaining on it. So no, you are most certainly not charged upon reactivation using the offer.
Anyone being charged, more than likely cancelled during the initial process, then tried to reactivate normally immediately afterwards - causing them to be charged. YOU MUST reactivate using the link for the re-enlistement on the account management page or on the website itself, in order to participate in the offer.
Standard mmo fare imho, pretty comical that a debate sprung up about this particular topic, these forums never cease to amaze me.
This is pretty damn sad. So I got around to reinstalling this game and giving this a shot...
Well, technically there are improvements. I notice that my cloak isnt a flat white anymore, so... YAY.
Also, The game looks and runs a bit better... At first glance.
So I head over to a contested zone and join a warband, I start fighting and then I notice this tremendous... TREMENDOUS input lag. I make note of it in general chat and some guy says "yeah, it's gotten worse since the patch"
... Really guys, this is the best you can muster? I dug out my CDs for this? It was nearly impossible to land channeling moves at all, and combat felt as sticky and uninspired as ever. But hey, at least there's no serpent's passage spam.
I'll wait and see if it improves, but these clowns have 9 more days.
Nope, because they are not really 10 free days. You have to pay for it, they just add the ten days to the end of the thirty you are paying for. That's why they ask for your credit card if you try and claim the free days.
Read the fine print carefully.
One day, when it's actually free, I'll consider it. Until then, I no longer fall for dirty marketing tricks.
How can people be allowed to state this like it's an absolute fact, when they are absolutely and 100% WRONG?!
I wish people like this would stop stating things like they are a fact when this is what they would LIKE it to be, but it simply isn't.
I signed up yesterday, and the FIRST 10 days are FREE!!!!
Originally posted by somedesi Nope they charge you upfront. Its your 15 dollars PLUS 10 days. Personal witness, I personally saw someone get tricked by this.
Nope you are lying. I just re-signed. I then cancelled right away. I have 10 free days and was not charged.

-----Zero Punctuation Eve Online Review-----
I wouldn't return for a free month even as I didn't managed to find the strength to last past the first free month I had when I bought this 'game'. WAR no DaoC2 as promised(huge rvr), but a lousy WoW pvp/bg clone, that's why I stay away from it. Even read some time ago that they limit the numbers in rvr now and even boot you if you don't meet some predefined criteria

Grammar nazi's. This one is for you.
As I said in a earlier thread after release, once all the content is patched in (in this case the 4 citys) Ill get back, not before.
I believe the game needs another 6 months, so why rush?
"TO MICHAEL!"
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
The text is about as clear as it can be. I think you're just creating an issue where there is none.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
"TO MICHAEL!"
Never mind. Self edited. lol
"TO MICHAEL!"
Game management hasen't changed. You couldn't pay me enough to play this game.
Well, at least you will be added to the 1st quarter total "accounts opened" when Mythic report total subscriptions, so its not a total loss.
It may be just that one area, cruise around a bit and see what you think.
"TO MICHAEL!"
Proof below...
Nope you are lying. I just re-signed. I then cancelled right away. I have 10 free days and was not charged.
