Oh My God. You are totally right. I just realized this.

I am sorry to the EQ2 fans I was arguing with. Lets agree to disagree and get this thread back on topic. This argument was silly just silly.

    i already mentioned this earlier

but cant go wrong with any of the 4

everyone posting here will not agree to what is most suitable

and as seen by this thread, people will promote or downplay games of their liking / disliking

Everyone you called fanboi or dimissed the opinion (including eccoton) didnt bashed WoW in any sense.

When I mentioned WoW famboism, I did for this reason and maybe for you to realize how ironic you were when you were the first one using the term but falling on it.

Did I also fall on it by using the term? Probably, but I didnt try to dismiss anyone´s opinion, including yours (when they are expressed as opinions)

The "opinion" road was took later on in this conversation, I think the main issue was some negative aspects expressed as undeniable truth.

    ...

Anyway, about War, EQ2, AOC and Lotro, I think the only way to decide is to experience all these games, sometimes it doesnt matter how a game looks, how much content a game has or how much people play the game. What matters is your personal experience playing it.

Everquest 2, Lotro (and WoW) at this moment are deeper and bigger than War and AOC, but Im pretty sure, soon War and AOC will expand and reach the level of those other games, but even now they can be a nice gaming experience.

Between EQ2 and Lotro, even with the fact EQ2 has more content and more group content diversity, Lotro storyline can seduce some players, both games have a similar amount of players these days and both communities are nice and mature, so in the end is just a matter of opinion between those 2.

LOTRO then EQ2 in that order.  LOTRO i think is more my type of game than EQ2 and im not sure why except that i have been a Tolkien fan for over 35 years which could make me a bit biased. Having said that the lore of  the EQ world is also very good. My problem with WOW is that it is to me, its superficial, grind and get the shiney armor. The game play in all three of these games is similar but WOW is even more simplistic. One guy here on the forums said one time, roll a Palidan, level to 19, go to battlegrounds and win. That pretty much describes my feelings for the complexity of  WOW.  They have nerfed the game to the point of being rediculous and lets talk who cloned who for a bit. LOTRO had barber shops, WOW now has barber shops, LOTRO has traits, WOW now has achievements, only difference here is the traits in LOTRO acutally do something for you. EQ2 has flying carpets, and now yes thats right WOW now has flying carpets. There are more but i think you get my point. Now the WOW fanbois/trolls can have a new target  as im sure they also  are bored to death with WOW and need to come to this forum to reinforce (in their minds) how great their game really is by trashing every other game that takes too much thought for them to play. I for one hope the WOW addicts stay addicted to chasing the shiny carrot that is just out of their reach as their absence makes for much nicer communities in LORTO and EQ2 and one more thing little boys....Chuck Norris sucks. LMAO

I play or have played all 4.

    My recommendation for a mostly PvE duo;

    1. EQ2

    2. AOC

    3. LOTRO

    4. WAR

EQ2  - If the OP has already played to the mid 40's I'd say he pretty much knows what the game is about. I didn't get any higher than that and what I saw was well done, and the complexity I like is there. I just got a bit bored after 3 years on and off and a bit fed up of the gimmicks and the expansions SOE keep putting in there to grab every cent.

Great for a pair of folks to quest through though.

WAR - just cancelled for the second time. The game is okay if you like RvR, and it's why I bought it. If I could do the oRVR all the time I would probably stick with it but the amount of players at tier 2 and my late gaming hours mean I can't always find anyone else. The PVE except PQ's is utterly mind-numbing and I don't like doing scenarios all the time. Extremely Linear.

I wouldn't recommend it if you want to duo PVE at all. If you play only at peak hours and want to do RvR only then great.

AOC - My personal favourite out of these 4 games. Buggy still but the fast paced melee combat, the good quest stories an the great dungeons make up for it. Also a good game for a duo looking to concentrate on PvE as mobs alone also give decent XP.

LOTRO - Strange one this. Sometimes I really like it, sometimes it bores me to sleep. Too much focus on questing to level, in fact leveling by mobs alone is practically impossible. Great lore though and lots of odd things to do like play music. Crafting is simple but not boring. Not sure about recommending for a duo. The best quests are group quests/instances and I think some/all of these have access limited to players on the quest only. This might have changed though. Also quite linear imho.

A special mention goes to Vanguard. Haven't played for 12 months now but back then it was a great game for a duo. Open, really good dungeons, freedom of movement, great classes and some good quest arcs. Don't know how much SOE have gimmickyfied it recently.

Once again, WoW got brought into another post when the original topic does not even mention it. This obsession with WoW is quite interesting. I guess we are off point again...

We get the point. A lot of you don't like WoW. But please, don't generalize the ones of us who do by saying that some of us WoW fans don't like other games because they require more thought. You do know that is a condasending attitude right? You do know that a lot people who play LOTRO and EQ2 want that shiny armor as well, right? Right? You do know that a lot of us WoW fans play the game because the writing, story, lore and game mechanics are incredible. And playing in this large, open world is a fun experience? You do know that just about every MMO basically has the same carrot on a stick appraoch right? You do know that you may be able to list a handful of things that WoW copies but most of the recent MMOs including LOTRO copy much more from WoW...right?

I consider myself an intelligent gamer. At the age of 38 I have been playing video games since pong. I played Ultima Online when it first came out. I will admit WoW is not exactly the deepest online experience there is.

But it is a FUN game.

I think some of us forget sometimes, isn't that why we play? To have fun?

commenting on the original post all these tittles are awesome. people need to quit comparing game tittles its realy getting old. heres a suggestion, if you have these titles in your collection like do; play one for 2-3 months and switch. that way get the new game feeling when you come back.

remember companys are not try to make games just like one another, they have thier own ups and downs, all of them.

Good diplomatic post. These games all have their good points. It just depends on what type of gameplay you are looking for.

Donjn - you haven't contributed anything of consequence to this discussion thread or what the OP wanted opinions on in pages. You have focussed entirely on pointless arguments over semantics, namecalling, pointless personal pokes and seem to have no purpose here other than "scoring points" off other posters and upping your post count. Back in the day, that fit the classic definition of "troll" perfectly. Someone seeking a pointless argument solely for the sake of the argument.

Clearly the games involved have different graphics styles and visual qualities, sadly debating them is pointless as that will always come down to a matter of opinion.

In terms of real basis for comparison; you have to look at actual game mechanics such as the UI, questing interface, inventory management, crafting, combat etc. Or look at the state of the "community" or the support/dev interaction, which again will be subjective but can be at least argued with some supporting evidence.

Also, I know others have mentioned it, but I would add Vanguard to the list of games to try out and drop AoC until AoC wises up and offers a free trial. All of the others you can get a solid feel for with a well timed and played trial offer.

Maybe I am missing something, but I seem to remember it was not just me who was arguing over these petty issues. It takes two to tango.

    I get all the blame.

And yet a few posts up I was the one who said I was sorry....

But you dont see that do you?

I was also the one who received the first "personal pokes"

But you dont see that do you?

This is a typical example of the internet pile on theory. I am fighting off two EQ2 fans and it would be much easier for you to take their side because there is strength in numbers...

More evidence: Here was my post...

Then Umbral responded by dragging me back into the debate....

But you dont see that do you?

I think at this point I will step out of this thread.  I am done. I said I was sorry for assisting in derailing the thread and that's that..
