I had some questions first.  I've always been interested in political aspects of eve, but I always disliked the amount of timesink required before you can really do anything worthwhile.  I also find eve combat extremely boring, and I've never been a big sci-fi fan.  I have, however, always felt that there needs to be a fantasy eve.  Is this game less time-sink, more able to get involved in the action kind of game?

Another thing...does it look like they'll ever open a new server?  Because I would LOVE to start from the beginning of something like this (I suspect that if I'd started in the beginning for eve, I'd be alot more into it.)

And I guess, overall, is it worth it?  And don't give me troll/fanboy answers, please, I've seen plenty of those.

It's going to depend a lot on what you want to accomplish, or what you find fun.

If you are mainly just looking for the excitement of being able to jump right in and PvP other players in a full-loot Fantasy setting... there is a chance you will like DarkFall... once you are able to get an account.

If you are wanting to partake in the city-building and eventually ship-building, hover-tanks, etc.... you will need to join up with a decent-sized clan.  In fact, in order to truly enjoy what DarkFall has to offer... you will need to be a part of a clan.  There is some fun to be had with PvP without a clan... but that most likely won't be enough to satisfy for very long.

If you are wanting to delve into the more powerful and exhilarating magic spells... be prepared for a long and arduous grind before you can pick one of the Magic schools.

    • You will need to level up Lesser Magic to at least 50 - (one spell does not take regeants)
    • Then you can begin leveling up Greater Magic to at least 50 -  (these take regeants to cast)
    • Then you can choose one of the 8 Magic Schools to begin leveling - (these all take regeants as well)
    • Each spell can be leveled separately from 1-100
    • At level 100 the spell is extremely powerful for one cast... then it goes back to 99
    • You are not able to learn opposing Magic schools (i.e. Once you pick Water... Fire is not available)

I've not been able to find how to change back once you pick a certain Magic school.  Meaning that once you pick Water... how do you change your mind and pick Fire instead?  Anyone been able to find the answer to that yet?  Hopefully there is some sort of quest-giver (or alternatively a trainer) that will allow that to happen.

Of course all of the above mean actually very little since the first real challenge for anyone that wishes to get in is to go past the retarded F5 lottery a.k.a purchasing the game, so should you decide to go for it good luck with that to begin with........

    I agree!

One of the most hardcore aspects of DarkFall is getting a working account.  I'm thinking that is Darth's doing though... he is on the marketing and account management team.  They go through every single "applicant" with a fine-tooth comb to determine if they are worthy or not.

One of the more "hardcore" aspects of this "approval" process is the number of characters in your name listed on your CC.

If your name has more than 15 characters combined... NO DARKFALL FOR YOU!

And this answer doesn't address the fact that the actual gameplay itself is a large timesink.  That's one of the reason that afk macroing is such a huge issue.  Many, many people "play" the game while being no where near their computer.  There's a reason for that.

Meh. It's only a matter of time before that all gets fixed up.

    Little to no personal ethics.

    An immediate gratification mentality

A seemingly passe attitude towards cheating

It can possibly be that the system, and design is not fun. No, that's not it.

You have just described some of the defining characteristics of most Darkfall players.  Be proud.

    Add to the above:

Gameplay systems that are so boring people would rather not play them directly

Overall system so poorly designed that macroing/cheating is easy to do

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

It is easy to cheat at golf, as well.

I wouldn't say that the game was bad because of it.

True, you don't need to cheat at golf in order to have fun.

Seems like only those who play with a chivalric playstyle in DF can have fun doing things as intended.

Nah, just players that do not cheat at video games.

I am also interested but there is no point in getting the game now.  Wait for a new server because this one is already full, with all city taken and 4-8 hours queue.

And if they never release another server it's just to bad for them.

No, they cheat because they are cheaters.

I disagree. I think they cheat because doing it the legitimate way just isn't fun.

Haven't seen a queue in a couple weeks now. We'll see what happens later this week, as they are selling accounts again as we speak.
