Rationalization? No, its simply the truth, and why people are cheating/macroing. Wake up dude.
No one would use macros is the system was fun. Period. Right now, its a soul crushing grind that only has rewards at 4 levels of advancement.
And to answer your other question, Attended macro uses is legit.
Here we simply disagree. Cheating is cheating, as far as I am concerned.
I do not grind, I play the game. I enjoy the game immensely.
Macroing is not legit, it is just impossible to stop, especially if the macroer is actually at the keyboard while doing it. This doesn't make it right, nor does it make it any less of a cheat.
That's they way i play most games too. However, Atended macroing is allowed.
Perhaps tolerated due to unenforceability would be a better term, though it is clearly viewed as cheating by the devs.
The funny thing is that I like the skill system. It allows me to really sculpt my toon. Perhaps others simply are trying to min-max to whatever they believe the FOTM happens to be, but I just play.

In sports? And how does that compare to cheating in a video game again?
Ethically? No difference.
No.. huge difference. Here's ethics for you..
You make a lot of money as a professional athlete. If you "dope", you make even more money, at the risk to your body. On the interenet, there is no risk for cheating. It doesn't take years to see the difference in performance, and you don't make any more money. You JUST affect other's game play.

As such, cheating at a video game is trivial, which from an ethical standpoint, is even worse...

Like it's been said many times, there aren't any games on the market that have the same free-form that Darkfall promises.
I do agree though, that the game appears unfinished..
You have just described some of the defining characteristics of most Darkfall players. Be proud.
Add to the above:
Gameplay systems that are so boring people would rather not play them directly
Overall system so poorly designed that macroing/cheating is easy to do
It is easy to cheat at golf, as well.
I wouldn't say that the game was bad because of it.
A golf analogy. Wow.
Ok, so let's say you go to Darkfall Beach to play a round of 18. Once there, you discover that the course doesn't enforce the actual rules of golf - you are left on your own to do as you like with your ball on the course, and can write down any score you like at the end of the round.
The other custom at Darkfall Beach is that the guy with the lowest score (as reported by himself) gets to keep everyone else's golf clubs, clothes, and cars at the end of the day.
If this was widely known, what types of people would you expect to show up to play at Darkfall Beach? How long would it take "ethical golfers" to stop playing the course?
Relying on the "ethics" of gamers in a competitive, online (read: anonymous) game is just plain naive. The onus of creating and maintaining a fair and level playing field is on the developer. Attempting to shame the shameless by continuous appeals to ethics is sophomoric and an utter waste of time.

Of course all of the above mean actually very little since the first real challenge for anyone that wishes to get in is to go past the retarded F5 lottery a.k.a purchasing the game, so should you decide to go for it good luck with that to begin with........
And this have very little with the actual gameplay itself, later when you have the game : )
I thought you declared that you would not be coming back to the MMORPG forums because you had found your one true love, Darkfall.
Yes!

No one Roleplayes in darkfall. Roleplaying is not hardcore. Darkfalls design has no support of roleplay. The games systems are not fun, so people automate this. You are confusing a RPG system, with roleplaying.
Everyone roleplays in Darkfall, as they are not Mahirim, Orks, or Dwarves in real life. The quality of their roleplaying is not a subject of conversation in this thread.
Obviously, the game system of Darkfall is fun for some people. For others it's not, so they attempt to bend the system to their desires. My point is simply that these people will eventually move on, which is why the Darkfall team is patiently allowing that to happen.
Your dissatisfaction with Darkfall at a stage so close to it's release suggests you might be someone who should move on, as well.

Maybe I can get in with an up and coming clan on the NA server when it comes out and I can learn the game with them.

"Anyone macroing within the tower protected areas will be warned once, and then kicked. Repeated violations could result in a ban. Spamming spells or any other disruptive macroing activity within the tower protected areas will be kicked without warning. Repeated violations could result in a ban.
Unattended macroing could get you kicked anywhere in the world depending on the situation. You engage in it at your own risk. "
While I do actually agree with your stance on the subject... I must disagree with your statement of the Devs stance on the subject.
Where in that quote I posted above do they suggest that Attended Macroing outside of the towers area is cheating? If they considered Macroing cheating... why would they only warn for it and not ban right away? Why does it take repeated violations of it (in the tower area) in order to warrant a ban if it is considered cheating by them?
No unfortunately... the Devs are all too complicent with macroing.
They could easily implement a pop-up in a random place if they really wanted to do away with it.

Irrelevant.
I am not trying to shame the shameless. I am making an observation.
I was simply commenting on the lack of ethics being displayed by gamers. I also commented on the fact that, as in any game, one can cheat, if one is so inclined.
I also said that this fact alone, that one can cheat, does not make a game bad.
To your analogy, if I cheat in golf perhaps I win cash. If I cheat in a video game, I win.....pixels?

Not entirely true, if you cheat in an MMO the potential is there to sell gold/items for RL cash, it's a very big business and if some Gold selling companies or players can use ways to make it much easier to gain gold/items then they will.
So for you it's about pixels, for the guy actively cheating it could be about RL cash via Gold selling sites.

Like the OP, I've teetered on the edge of being interested, but the people saying I'm not hard core enough have sort of convinced me, maybe I'm not.
Maybe I can get in with an up and coming clan on the NA server when it comes out and I can learn the game with them.

about the golf analogy.
I have never been at a golf course that enforces the rules on you. You are usualy out on your own unless you are in a tournament.
And this have very little with the actual gameplay itself, later when you have the game : )
I thought you declared that you would not be coming back to the MMORPG forums because you had found your one true love, Darkfall.
Yes!
I did explain in a small little post earlier why i did return. It was due to all false information from non players.
But thank you for noticeing me : )
Love how you make excuses for coming back to the forums.. First it was your inlaws, and now it's about "people spreading misinformation about the game" Admit the game isn't all that enjoyable. It's pretty obvious you'd rather play MMORPG.com forums than Darkfall..

Nothing more.
Most fun I've had with an MMO for a very long time.

Indeed, but I wasn't actually talking about gold farmers. I was talking about "legitamate" players.
