You grind your way to max skill in Darkfall.
BTW. Your name reeks of fanboism and, really, if you want some good discussion I'd suggest creating a new username (again).
I am a fan. Not blind, but a huge fan. As to your statement: You grind your way to max skill in Darkfall...that is just wrong. You can, but then you just have the WoW mindset. It's instilled into you. Having max skill does not make you a god. Having max skill means nothing if you swing your weapon at me and you miss.

There are only 4 levels to a skill in darkfall.
For everything you do.
That makes it better.

In Darkfall, there?s much more to character development than, say, raising your riding or mining skill by mindlessly killing rats all day. Instead, you'll need to practice your skills if you want to get better at them. Darkfall?s skill based system makes sense, and it saves you from having to waste your playing time leveling.
Multiple safeguards protect you from cheats and exploits that would otherwise interfere with your gaming experience
How often can we expect announcements and updates to the site?
We will have regular news updates, screenshots, announcements, FAQ updates, downloads, and progress reports on the official Darkfall site.
What kind of advanced features does Darkfall have?
Darkfall has most of the features one would associate with fantasy based MMORPGs, but also contains elements found in real-time strategy and action games. In Darkfall it?s the players and their actions that shape the world. We provide you with the platform and the tools to engage in grand activities such as kingdom building, politics, strategy, diplomacy, combat, warfare, conquest, and racial wars. We also offer you the freedom and the option to not get involved in any of that if you don?t want to, and to follow a path of your own.
I don?t like PvP, why should I even consider trying out Darkfall?
If you give it a chance, you?ll discover that Darkfall is an extremely well rounded game. For example, there?s as much effort going into the quest engine and the crafting process, as there is going into the combat design. Darkfall features the ultimate player based economy, more useful trade skills than any other released MMORPG to date, advanced NPC and monster AI, and a quest engine constantly creating new and challenging content. Furthermore, the game world is huge; you could move to a remote area with your friends and try to create a safe haven for other like-minded players.
This is directed to people thinking about buying the game. I'm an ex UO player and had high hopes for Darkfall as being the spiritual successor to UO. I bought the game on March 10 and unless a miracle happens I'm not going to resub. I consider myself a balanced adult. I have a wife, kids and a job. The only thing in my basement is junk and I like open worlds that truly reflect the real words in "mmorpg". I guess in Darkfallese that makes me a carebear because I dont want to sit around ganking people all day but would rather play a mmo while doing it. Darkfall is not a MMORPG. Its a massive multiplayer online first person shooter. That is pretty cool actaully idea, but its not what the publishers said would be. They said they would build the space shuttle, I expected a BMW and we got a Chevette. I dont pay a monthly fee to frag people. The (vocal) community is made up of people I simply don't want to associate with. "did you see what he wrote? only a fucking loser would write shit like that" "Agreed, but since WoW attracted all the idiots to the mmorpg games there's not much you can do, "OMG I GOTZ 100 WEAPONZ SKILLZ AND LOST, YOU HAXXOR!!1!"... bullshit..." I'm not going to quote anymore but I will leave it at the notion that the hardcore masochist, immature, hate mongering , pvp is cool everything else isnt, pea brained vocal minority is not the minority at all in this game. It has lead me to suspect that there is some percentage greater than I care to imagine of people I simply don't want to share my time with.....this is their game! The company bit off way more than they can chew. Their communication has improved but we are launch date + 1 month and they have very little characteristics of a company running a mmorpg.....characteristics that are both expected and necessary in a modern mmo. Still no website, still staggered sales, still no indication on when the game is going to be finished. There is far less implemented in game than whats mentioned on their site.....I sense unprofessionalsim to the nth degree. Don't buy this game unless you enjoy living in a hate infested childish community because I think everytime someone said go back to WoW noob- 10 players who dont live in mom's basement playing Quake III did.
Based on AV's track record I think they are either: a> trying to dupe me out of my cash b> Hard working folks who dont have the resources to do what they said / thought they would do and instead are catering to their main bread and butter which is not your typical mmorpg gamer.
The community is really no help here because anytime anyone with anything to say about the game suggests that something be improved that reduces the ganking/grief anti social play aspects, or anytime someone suggests that maybe they should add some actual PvE the community responds en masse with quotes like above. Save your money I think the game is full of punk ass kids who need lessons in living in a community of other human beings and I dont see ANYTHING on the radar that is going to change that.

Except that AV/Tasos hyped the game's superior mob AI and claimed that PvE would be strong in the game and that it wouldn't only be PvP. And the die-hard fans rallied behind it, saying "anyone who thinks DF will be PvP only hasn't been paying attention. Tasos has said it will have strong PvE"
The hyped mob AI and such is what really had me interested in DF. The fact that it had open PvP as well (though I feared the type of people it would attract... and did), was a plus, since I enjoy PvP as well.
Of course, as soon as it became apparent PvE was near non-existent, the DF fans (yet again, true to character) changed their entire point-of-view, 180-degrees, to "This isn't a PvE game. This is only for hardcore PvP'ers. Go play your carebear WoW if you want to kill boars all day".
So.. DF as it exists now... y es... absolutely only viable if you're into chasing other players around.
DF as it was hyped for so long was a very different animal.

Some of the mobs can still be bugged out, but the ones that don't are really good. Nothing like having a group of mobs focus fire your guy with low health. It's not the best AI, but better & harder than most.
with all due credit I do believe the AI has promise.
But their silence in all aspects is deafening.....AV has given me nothing to think anything different that what i've already expressed.
The community WILL grow and it will by like K said : a cess err place for all the l33t kiddies to show off their awesome lack of spelling abilities and good ping.

The mob AI was one example and from what I've seen in videos, heard and read from player accounts, it doesn't sound nearly as dynamic as it was described to be. Mobs running away when low on health is not a new, much less revolutionary feature in MMOs.
The PvE element of the game is, by many accounts (fans and detractors alike) definitely *not* a focus of DF as it exists.

Click my link my above and it will show just that there is plenty of PVE. Darkfall is an extremely large world and they don't hold your hand guiding you to everything . If you want to find dungeons you actually have to go out exploring, put your life in danger and look. I am so tired of people whining about this.
In a level-based game, you repeat the same actions to gain xp... be it killing mobs, doing quests, etc.
In a skill-based game, you repeat the same actions to gain skill... using the same skills over and over while killing mobs, or chasing down players, or hacking away at a tree... or standing still shooting at the sky.
They're both grinds. The only difference is how they're packaged.
As stated, you don't have to play that way. I can beat people with a higher mastery and have lost to people with lower mastery because they were better. You do not have to grind your skills out. If you do, you are just selling yourself short. Go out in the world.

This has nothing to do with what I said.
What you're doing while grinding has nothing to do with the fact that you are still repeating the same actions over and over again in order to level.. be it skills or levels.
If you're out fighting other players... you are still swinging your sword, or casting your blue energy ball at them. If you're not doing either... well, you're probably dead... but you're also not gaining in either of those skills.
Same goes for fighting mobs.
And so on...

Mobs do a little more than just run away when low on health. They will bring their friends. They will focus fire someone down. They will attack someone with lesser armour. They will kite you. Nothing revolutionary though.
Exactly. Go out in the world and E X P L O R E . That's what this game is about. There's a reason why it so easy to get a mount.
Warning this game is not a theme park with zones and instances where the game holds your hand and guides you to everything. They should put this warning on the intro screen.

Fair enough. But you're right.. it's nothing revolutionary in MMOs. If that's a strength of DF's PvE and/or mob AI... it's not particularly impressive... I guess unless one has been living under a rock for the past 10 years or so.

Okay, I'll try this one more time:
Grind = doing the same thing repeatedly
In order to level skills in DF, you have to actually *use* them, right? You have to repeatedly swing a sword in order to increase your skill in that. You have to shoot magic missles in order to increase skill in that... and so on?
If that's the case.. then, yes... you do have to grind.
Unless you can stand still, do nothing, and the skills simply increase on their own.

If you put on your rose colored glasses it's clearly not grinding.

I don't grind I just play. Well not exactly true, even I grind sometimes. Cannot kick the habit entirely.
But im having the time of my life, and i hate PvP. I do RP and explore the world instead.

That's what is always entertaining on this forum. Darkfall fanatics contradicting themself from one post to the next.
This
and what makes it gold is the fact that the message under his avatar completely negates his 1st post.
irony or may i dare say its somthing else.
What is wrong with this forum today??
Were do i contradict myself?? I dont complain about gankers in DF. I told what i would do if i was complaining.
Why don't they just make mmorpg where i pay my 50 bucks and pay 15 bucks a month where you appear in game at max level and skill. Then I can go to all the end game stuff on day 1. Then no game will ever have any kind of grinding again. Oh I also want all the best gear and magic too. Some dotted lines and way points would be nice too showing me where all the content is and in what order to do it. I also want all my npcs to have big signs over there head showing me how to get every quest. hmm come to think of it i don't want any death penalty at all.
they should call it Fantasy Grand Adventure Theme Park
lol give me a break
warning if this sounds good to you then don't play Darkfall

You grind your way to max skill in Darkfall.
BTW. Your name reeks of fanboism and, really, if you want some good discussion I'd suggest creating a new username (again).
I am a fan. Not blind, but a huge fan. As to your statement: You grind your way to max skill in Darkfall...that is just wrong. You can, but then you just have the WoW mindset. It's instilled into you. Having max skill does not make you a god. Having max skill means nothing if you swing your weapon at me and you miss.

I advise anyone worried about any ingame content to simply check this accurate guild made map out.
my own thread is moot because you cant buy the game anyway lol.
I can appreciate your point, but to be honest I am beyond surprised that people thought this game would be something more than 100% pvp. Ever since I heard of it and ever since I saw the reaction of the community I knew it would be more of a mmo fps pvp game. It just seemed so blatantly obvious.

As stated, you don't have to play that way. I can beat people with a higher mastery and have lost to people with lower mastery because they were better. You do not have to grind your skills out. If you do, you are just selling yourself short. Go out in the world.
Its a devoid world lacking fauna , wandering critters and predictable camps which really only represent gank spots.
Yes the map is big....so is Telon. The difference there's actaully things to do there other than gank your own kind .

You could argue that the Darkfall developers have been living under a rock for the past 10 years. However, that is a different discussion. =D

This
and what makes it gold is the fact that the message under his avatar completely negates his 1st post.
irony or may i dare say its somthing else.
