They haven't even completed the classes for the game. EQ2 has been in Development ALOT longer than WoW if my memory serves me correct. *goes on about some of the other posts* Plus everyone complains about the SWG launch..HELLO!! SOE only runs the Servers..LucasArts is in charge of everything else!! the EQ launch..Um wasn't Everquest originally owned by someone else before SOE took over? Wouldn't that mean that EQ2 and Planetside are the only games UNDER them thats completely their dev teams work now? It really helps when people have their facts / myths / rumors correct.
Well Coldmeat's satirical post might have be over your head but I'll explain everything.
LucasArts contracted SOE to develope and publish SWG for them. So no SOE doesn't just run their servers.
As for EQ, you have it wrong also. In 95 Sony Interactive Studios America (SISA) was formed to develope internal games for Sony. In 96 John Smedley was put in charge of developing a MMORPG for Sony he hired Brad Mcquaid and Steve Clover to design EQ. In 98 SISA was changed to 989 Studios.
989 studios split in late 98 between console and MMORPG studios. John Smedley formed Red Eye entertainment, and then later changed again to Verant to handle EQ . Eq was released in 99 and shortly there after in 2000, newly formed SOE reaquired Verant and it development team.
As for EQ2 being in development a lot longer then WoW, wrong again. WoW was announced at the 2001 ETCS in London on August 9, 2001. While EQ2 was announced on May 2, 2002.

That being said, I've begun to think it would be best if EQ2 released on the 15th of Nov. There are some people I'd be looking for to see if they really meant it when they said they'd play through the bugs, even when the bugs don't allow you to play through them. It might even be more fun than the game itself.
Yea that would be nice, those people and tthe "I played WoW stress test and think its good to go as is" fall into the same catagory.
Also, there is no release date for WoW or EQ2...So people really need to get off that topic since it doesnt really apply to 'no open beta.'
"SOE shot my dog, killed my parents, stole my wife, and kiddnapped my lawn gnome."
This place is full of tree-huggers and tofu fartn' faeries...
I have a strange feelings about products that cannot be tested before buying. Movies have trailers, non-online games have demos... MMOG have open-betas usualy. But not EQ2:-((
Open beta's are nice and should be there for everyone, not even just at launch after all not everyone has the time at launch to try a game to see if it is worth playing, and personally I hate buying a game, setting up an account and paying for a month just to find out that I dont like it.
Although with enough people around playing EQ2 and or WoW I dont think it would be hard for most people to find or know someone thats playing the game and able to show them or let them try it out for themself.
