I personally say " are you frikkin' kidding me? Are we actually going to play a game that ends up playing it for us?" But hey, this is perfect for those that want this kind of help. For the rest of us we can continue to play our "difficult" MMO's and enjoy the exploring on the way to our quest objectives.

Just which "difficult" MMO are you playing? Ive played most of the fantasy  PTP games and am curious. Or are you "gameless" and feel the need to troll the boards trying to convince yourself you are a hardcore, perma death, pvp animal? A difficult MMO? Who is frikkin kidding who? Be true to thine self little warrior.

Only reason i still even play this is because my wife likes it and she can't even read the quests. But we have fun running around together. She is dyslexic.

Yeah I prety much have to agree with this......LoTRO is about as soft as they come for an MMO......There may be an area or two you have trouble finding or an NPC that is located in a hard spot but overall the game is as hand holding as they get.........

    Ever been in Moria?

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Well o.k. there gramps! Obviously you took some offense to the word "difficult". Also, do you think I would be wasting my time coming to a board like this and not be into MMO's? Let me start with saying that I'm currently subscribed to Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. That is the only current sub, but let me list all the mmo's I have subscribed to at one time. Here they are in no particular order:

    Everquest

    Everquest 2

    Lord of the Rings

    Star Wars Galaxies

    City of Heroes

    Warhammer Online

    World of Warcraft

Now, that's the ones that require pay-to-play here's the F2P:

    Runes of Magic

    Wizard 101

    Dungeon Runners

    Guild Wars

Then that doesn't even include the fact that I have beta tested many more games that I never ended up playing after it's release. Listen, I am a fan of MMO's and to be honest, I was going to try Ether Saga Online until I read that part in the magazine. I may still try it because it said it was a link that is in the quest log, so it sounded like something you can use if you want. Also, no I don't consider myself "hardcore, perma-death, pvp animal" I can't be hardcore because I'm an adult with priorities over sitting at my computer for 12 hours straight, MMo's is hobby not life for me. I don't like perma-death because I enjoy building up a character and don't want to lose all my hard work over a death, and PvP is fun but not a necessary component for me.

I don't know why you got so defensive. Did I quote you or name you before I posted that? NO! So sounds to me like your the gamer that wants the game to play it for him. It was the game I'm talking about when I say " are you frikkin' kidding me?" OK now it's your turn. I'm not trying to be a smart-arse right now, I'm actually curious as to what mmo's you have played.

Moria can be a maze for some of the quests objective, and it should be, its moria!  I think thats why I enjoyed it so much the first and second time I went through it. It felt very much like when I entered The Old Forest for the first time, back in the day we had no map for it.. good times!

Moria aside, I feel people have a good reason for crying wolf on the "easy-mode" path companies are heading, seeing how the industry has envolved the last couple of years.

Ummm, like I was responding to people who said games like LOTRO are "difficult". I don't find them difficult, hence, my sarcasm in quotes when i said "difficult". I think the only thing I did wrong was my sarcasm. I know not everyone finds these games easy, but I mean seriously, do you see the sense in playing  a game and having it controlled like I mentioned about Ether Saga Online? Why have it even do the running for you? I was actually fine with the fact that there are pointers and waypoints and such in these games since most of them give you an option to shut them off, but now it's going as far as to have your character auto-run to exactly where you need to go is just plain lazy! Might as well have the game teleport you to every quest objective! Also, I'm still waiting for your list of games played Gramps...I don't think your reading my posts or any others completely because it appears you completely misunderstood me, and you didn't mention what mmo's you have played. You called me out, now I'm calling you!

OK grandpagamer, I see now your just avoiding my question about the games you have played. You are nothing but the same troll you were trying to accuse me of being when all I did was mention an easier sounding game for those that struggle with games like LOTRO, admittedly with some sarcasm, but I can man-up and apologize for it. I have asked twice now what games you have played. In the very first time I asked I even said I'm not being a smart-arse and was just curious as to what MMO's you have played. All your doing is trying to get people fired up and it isn't working with me....this will be the last response to you from me unless you can answer what games you have played. I had no shame in telling you what games I have played, and all you can say is they're all easy...so come on big boy let's hear it!

  • CerionCerion Member Posts: 1,005

The list of games I've played are in my signature.  The only one that I found truly HARD to play was World War II Online.  Any other games that purport to be "hard" are actually substituting boring grinds for difficulty. The most famous example of this for me is EVE. In the 2 1/2 years I played EVE, I never died, NOT ONCE. lol.  I can't say that about LOTRO, nor any other game for that matter.

As for the quest tracker. meh. I get why Turbine implemented it. I get why some people really hate it. I turn it off, and never think twice. If a quest direction is poorly worded, or completely wrong, I've bugged it with a notation "and no, I don't want to use the quest tracker".

Massive Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game. Its a RPG played online, and all those things I listed are the very essence of this type of games.

I dont like FPS games. I never hit anything with my gun, and I bet I couldnt even hit water from a boat. But I dont complain/demand auto-aim options, so I can play FPS games aswell. I realise that an auto-aim in FPS is more gamebreaking than a quest guider in a MMORPG, but it is still comparable.

As for the quest dialog i posted; You are looking for a rotting tree stump, not a rotting tree. If you run east from the farm you encounter one tree stump, only one.

I apologize if I implied that you were stupid or lazy, not my intention. But its frustrating to see the RPG in MMORPG being watered down to almost non-existing...
