If you want to overclock the chip, AMD phenon, is what your looking for .

Errm.... You can take the i7 920 up to 4.0 ghz on each core easily, you cant use the stock heatsink but it will go to 4.0 ghz with the greatest of ease on air.  so really if you wanna overclock the i7 will not only futureproof you, but will give you more bang than you really need for the 280$ it costs.

Edit: not to mention the i7 detects as 8 cores, because it is a 4 core processor with 2 threads on each core... it's an absolute powerhouse for the price, and you wont have to upgrade the processor for a very long time.

I guess the question is, "have you personally done this ?"

I'm also a little more excited over the value and performance ratio you get with AMD.  THat is awesome intel has a chip that has no real use in gaming :).

Dont listion to him PAUL! Thier are games engines coming out that will use all 4 cores and the 4 HT cores (8) on that I7. You have made a wise choise with the I7 and your right.....you wont have to upgrade the processor for a very long time.

AMD still stuck with 4 cores!

Name the game engines, please, I love reading about intel specific game engine ?

You one of the things that makes me laugh about intel users, is that most likely they never had a choice on which chips they wanted to use because of Intels  under dealings with stroe and pc builders. The EU has just Fined Intel 1.6 Billion Dollars for giving rebates and insentives to european pc makers, blocking AMD's advancement in that region.

Intel is in the ssame boat here in the united states with the same allegations.

On another note, AMD is able to move with the growth of technology and the growth of the market. THe reason there is no 8 core AMD is becuase there is no nead for one at the cosumer level. Pawning of i7 as an 8core cpu is laughable, just with it's "quad" core cpu's, Intel fails to make a truely quad core processor, they have only been able to use the split single cores to make the chips work.. You have 2 cpus on one chip, = 4 , 4 cpus on a chip = 8 for intel. To me that is just little suspect. Specially when majically these chips run x2 cooler then AMD .

Smoke and Mirros show for intel is coming to an end in the next few years, and AMD will move up to 40$ of the market share.Specially when the rele3ase the Bulldozer TRUELY 8 core CPU. :)

Noone said that it was trying to pass off as an 8 core processor, it has 8 threads I clearly stated it had 8 THREADS not 8 CORES, huge difference.  What we have here is a fanboy, I used to support AMD fully, i did months of research before building my computer.  What did all the tech websites point me to?  the i7  I am glad with my purchase, there may not be any need for it as of yet, but do i care to upgrade my computer in a few years when they step up to using all 4 cores on a game? no, I'd rather be set for the future how.  And you would bring the EU into this arguement.  And since it sounds like you are rather oblivious to how hot the i7 runs stock speeds, with a 70 degree ambient temp in my room im idling around 38 or so, in full load i get around 60... same temps my old AMD ran.  I'm so confused here, oh well, no influencing a fanboy, i stick to what i do research on, and if you're going to dog me for my decisions thats your choice.  But frankly do I care? nope :)

Also, to answer your original question.  Yes I can have it up to 4.0 ghz... do i want it that high? no because i wont use it and im wasting electricity that way, so why do it?  but yes i've had it up and running at 4.0ghz, incredibly hot under full load, but  it can be done, so go troll somewhere else kthxbye

Start downloading your updated driver and save them to your flash drive.....Bios.Chipset,sound,ethernet, and GFX..Note: if your running "SLI"   Download the 2nd file named....SLI patch...When installing the latest drivers for the GFX card (LAST do everything else..... GFX drivers are last) After drivers are installed do NOt restart......then run the SLI patch.....then restart!  This is very helpful!
