if the combat system is fun, and the graphics are as beautiful as we all have seen. battling wont be as much of a grind mayhaps it will actually be fun
i have my doubts about aion NA/EU hitting the 3.5 mil subs in a year even. my reason? population. China blows the US and EU population. And then you have the RMT's to count several thousand accounts there, and then you have the people in NA contributing to the china SUB list. I have already seen RMT sites advertising Aion gold. So to sum it all up, i dont believe the 3.5 mil subs number.
That depends on the context, we all know the earth rotates arounds the sun, but very soon, the world will realize that Asian developers make the best mmorpgs : )
When you start your post with "we all know" , the post is already false.
Thank you for pointing that out Sherlock Holmes....
All sub numbers posted by game publishers are bloated but by doing a little research you can find a plausible number.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
No asian developers don't make the best mmorpgs they do however know how to put together some of the finest consol rpg's. Also 3.5 subs in asia is probably around 2mil real if you take into account the gold farmers and multi boxers. However, That is still a great start.
Seems Aion is destroying WoW in those countries. That's cool.
while i like warcraft i must admit its rested on it laurels for far too long now . its strange to think with all the big name mmos that failed to deliver that an outsider could really become the fabled wowkiller . personally i dont think anything will kill wow as such but there is a feeling in warcraft that the majority of players are awaiting the next big thing . plenty of people are more than ready to jump ship to another game . if aion delivers i think we could see quite an exodus .
Well the least we can say about this is that WoW is getting some really heavy competition in Asia, and it is very likely to become bigger than WoW in Asia, I mean 3,5 million subs in 6 months?
Asian mmorpg's do have higher numbers generally, but 3,5 million is ALOT, Lineage 1 and 2 topped at 2 million each I believe, and they were the biggest before WoW.
The question is, are the subs comming from games like Lineage and Final Fantasy or are they comming from WoW or is the mmorpg market in asia expanding bigtime?
Either way, Aion is already a fenomenon like WoW, and I didn't see it comming
greetz

About the legitimacy of the subscription numbers, well they are at least as legitimate as the WoW numbers.
WoW has around 6 million subs in Asia, so 6 mill in what, 2 years? vs 3,5 mill in 6 months ...
It is clear that this will become tha battle of the titans !

That's awsome to hear. WoW was never my MMO, I played it and liked it, but I had only first heard of it during it's televised beta on G4, then my friends pushed me into it. With aion, atleast i've kept tabs on it since it's first 2006 video was released. So in a way I think I chose the right one to follow (=

most definitely !
It's a much deeper game than WoW is too, once the Western gamers realise this, they will make the switch

I do not think it will surpass World of Warcraft, though I hope it does since WOW has become rather stagnate when it comes to solo players. I would assume at least 1 million to 1.5 million subscriptions in the United States. Problem that most games do not get enough subscriptions to overtake World of Warcraft is most of them really do not advertise on tv and online which is where most people who would play these games would learn about them. Every time you turn around you see another World of Warcraft commercial, so the other companies need to follow suit.
I agree with brad813 about getting on TV. The downside of that of course is the cost. they need to make more money off it before they can do TV ads. To be honest they can do so many things to up their numbers many of which are free or close to free.
i got one question off topic though, why does everyone compare every MMORPG to WoW theres a big chunk of people that dont even like WoW... maybe its just me
I can't understand why its so hard for people to READ and UNDERSTAND what they read.
I am not a major fan of WoW myself, but for sheer subscriber base it is the reigning King. I have seen far better MMORPGs in almost every one I have played. Something that each one has done better. I think the reason it got so many subscribers is it is still a Warcraft game, so it brought the loyalists from the other Warcraft games on board when it came out. I would even go so far as to say that , for the average player(who still has a life outside the game unlike the Warcrack Addicts), it is in the worst 10%. The only truly exception parts of the game is the subscriber base and the graphics(which are on par with the best of the game genre). For solo players, the quests get exceptionally difficult at level 10 and it can sometimes be confusing as to where to go next. Playability is good most of the time, but in certain areas of the map it becomes mediocre at best. I will say that I do like the Alliance versus Horde aspect of the game, which creates for some good PvP action. City of Heroes and City of Villains has a similar set up. In my experience, of the fantasy MMORPG genre, Everquest and Everquest II still reign supreme, with Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach being a close second. I still don't know about Lord of the Rings Online yet, but maybe I will get to play my copy soon and find out.
someone metioned the game is too grindy for western gamers..My best freind would never play a asian mmo wiht me ever i finally got him to play aion china wiht me and he sold his wow account there is no grind what so ever this is the most westernized asian mmo i have ever played there are quest stacked on quest i have yet to ever grind and lvl 32 now. You also get xp from gathering mats for your craftin so your never once wasting time even when you craft you get xp. If you can't lvl in aion you should stick to easy mode wow and play the most mediocre game to ever hit the shelves but most americans are mediocre people so i guess wow matches most of them.

Those that complain about the grind have either not played or are too used to WoW. Aion has a grind, yes, but it is far lesser than the likes of Lineage 2 but yet harder to level than WoW. It is more along the lines of Everquest 2 before they started giving in to the solo friendly crowd.

well solo gameing is for consoles if you want to play alone why would u buy a mmo? A grind to me is killing mobs with no quest just get xp just sitting in one spot killing mobs over and over thats the definiton of a grind. Lineage had very few quest and everquest 1 was nothing but grinding. I have had plenty of quest and never once been bored..but being a hardcore gamer i was bored out my mind grinding in eq yet i wanted to hit the cap so thats what i did wow has ruined my old mmo community death to blizzard imo.

I can see the writing on the wall. Grind fest, this game is not meant to shine in the North American and EU world. It is mainly Asian for a reason.
Aion will do fine. They just need to put in more quests and up the xp reward to make the leveling easier for the casual westerners
Yes, it shouldnt be hard for a game with as many pros as Aion has to do well in NA/EU if NC Soft wants it to.

Believe what you like but China has close to 200 servers by now and I'm not sure how many Korea has.
i dont doubt they are making alot of money. i only doubt the number of real subscribers.
but u believe when blizzard tell you they have 11 million?
we all know asian companies make better video games, final fantasy, street fighter , metal gear solid and zelda to name a few.
Asian game development companies just make better video games, and that will translate into the mmo genre in the next few years.

Some people just prefer to solo, but in my particular case I can just never find those working on the same thing I am.
