You were doing pretty well up until half way through point 2. If you posted this stuff on Aionsource im sure you did see a lot of hate but not pointed at the game. Generic is not a term i would use myself as the graphics are as good as any ive seen for the style you refer to as anime and if you played Aion as you say you know yourself the "grind" is no worse than WOW and the PVP is head and shoulders above what WOW offers. While i see a definate asian art style i do not see anime but when compared to WOW all anime looks good so i guess we will call this a compliment. Oh that Death and Taxes.....sorry im such a noob but never heard of it. Ive never said this game is a WOW killer and do not believe it is although the WOW fanbois are sure worried that it is from the clutching at straws ive been seeing. I knew, and stated on another thread, that after beta ends the fear and loathing about Aion would start again. Carry on.

I don't visit aionsource anymore since I don't intend on playing the game. The negative AION impressions I'm getting are from MMORPG.com. They tend to be right on the main page of the site (not the forums) so it's pretty easy to find yourself there occasionally even if you aren't particularly interested in AION (ie...ME).
What I'm getting from your post is that you're defending AION. And I have to ask why? While I did say I played the game and did not enjoy it and that I personally don't believe it'll be a huge success in the WEST I didn't say WHY. That wasn't an accidental omission on my part, I purposely stayed clear from discussing the WHY because that fosters debate which while great and dandy has no place here on the SWTOR forums.
As for me playing AION. I dropped the game like a hot potato right as I entered lvl 23-24 which at Chinese Launch was a known quest gap. There were about 3 quest gaps on your trek to cap but I never bothered to discover the other 2, the first gap was tedious enough to dissuade me from playing the game. The game simply wasn't good enough for me to look the other way while I plowed through barren lvls.
Also, for future reference it's a poor argument to defend 1 MMO (AION) by positing that another MMO suffers from the same problem (WoW) and somehow using that fact as a justification. I dumped WoW because of the grind (lvling up may be fast but just about everything else is a monotonous grind). AION is equally grindy by your own admission compared to WoW. I also ended up dumping AION. Can you now see why your point doesn't amount to a persuasive argument. You made the assumption I like WoW. I don't. I like parts of Live WoW. I loved Vanilla WoW 4 years ago for the most part. Fast forward to 2009 and I'm singing a different tune...and playing a different game.
I find it amazing that the doomsayers/trolls are crawling out of the woodwork already (well, not really, but the vacuousness of some people never ceases to amaze me).
Even if ALL of your purportedly "factual" predictions (yeah, right!) happened to come true, that doesn't mean that you can speak for the myriad people who will, in fact, enjoy this game, be it players of the KotRO fanbase, some Star Wars fans, or other various groups of people who will want to play the game. I was an avid player of the pre-CU SWG, and I still refuse to play the NGE, but my fondness of the "sandbox" gameplay style won't preclude me from at least trying ToR for myself so that I can form an opinion based on actual gameplay rather than the crap that whiners such as yourself are spewing years in advance of the actual release of the game (which is just pathetic).
Unless you're in possession of some supernatural powers that grant you the gift of foresight that we mere mortals are unaware of, then your "statements" are merely speculation and, as a result, your dubious arguments are completely baseless until we have more concrete facts to utilize.
Really, there is no way dooming any game over a year before it's launch. It will change a ton. It's still probably in an early alpha stage.
Plus, many of your points are invalid. They have stated that there IS space combat. Plus, you say the lack of information means the game is going to fail. But most of the specifics of the game at this point are probably going to change by the time it releases. They just want to make sure everything they say is true.

I agree, doing lake Mythic and Avi and talk about many features that later gets scrapped is a lot more stupid then be quite about it until you know everything actually works as intended.
And it is logicaly impossible to prove if a game will be a failure or a success before it is released or canceled. Tabula Rasa was an epic fail.
The lack of information factor means nothing, if it does i guess the next big MMO from Blizz is an epic fail as well. Another example while not in the MMO bussiness is Nintendo whos policy, like Blizz is "its in development and will be released when its done". SWTOR may not sweep the world as WOW has done but to say its a fail at this state of develpment is reaching just a little bit.
New trailer looked sweet and awesome. But what is a cinematics trailer for a game? Nothing. Once you play the game it won't matter. Cinematics trailers are just fun. And this one rivalled some of the best cinematics I have seen.
But truth is that Bioware is still keeping major parts of what this game is about under wraps. But for sure some things can be concluded now: 1. Classes. Players will be stuck in one class.
Seems to be eight classes. Jedi: Trooper, Jedi, Smuggler | Sith: Sith, Bounty Hunter Because you desire a MMOG that allows you to switch classes doesn't make it right for the SW universe. When is the last time you say Han Solo go "This gun thing sucks I'm going to use a lightsaber." 2. Factions. Players will be stuck in a faction - nothings points to mobility in allegiance.
Treaty of Coruscant = no real pvp
http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/allegiances "nothing points to mobility in allegiance" doesn't equal it won't exist. Do you honestly think they are spending countless years to include voice over for dramatic reasons and not involve epic intergalactic strife . . . you're nuts.
3. Space. Not going to be included. We would have known by now.
Some will add: SWG didn't have it at launch, but this isn't 2003. Market is now very over-saturated with mmos and will be even more in a few years. Companies like Funcom counts on selling just enough copies at launch to give them a surplus. They know their games don't have lasting potential. ToR will have even less longevity than AoC. Once again, "We would have known by now" has no credit because you're nobody. Because Failcom sucks that doesn't make Bioware suck. Have you forgotten their track record of games? Look it up. 4. Instances. Hard to say, but I wouldn't be surprised they go the way of AoC. It doesn't matter what way they go. Right, left, up, or down if it delivers an epic SW experience it's the right way. 5. Crafting. Bioware states time and time again that this game is about story and heroes. Crafting is not part of their thought-proces. It isn't that slick, so why include it. Crafting is about creating your OWN story. And Bioware's idea of story-telling is that THEY need to direct your story. You're making this easy, wrong again. THEY don't want to direct the story. THEY want to put the power into your hands to empower YOU to direct the story. Besides that they WILL have crafting. They have stated they will have crafting, and they've had crafting in their consoles games. They are only going to improve and grow that crafting system based off other well received MMOG titles. 6. Non-combat classes. This game will center on heroes. Meaning, vanilla gameplay with limited options. Don't expect anything but minor non-combat skills. Last I recall SW is about Legendary characters defeating all odds . . . what about that doesn't put you in the center of a heroes life? This early video showed far from vanilla game play, and you'll have a side kick that travels with you. May it be a Droid or Wookie I love the thought of having my own personal side kick that evolves off of the decisions I make in game. 7. Release date. Not going to be before 2011. These games always get postponed. Just wait and see. Could even be later. I highly doubt it. Bio stated in an interview that most MMOG games are developed for 3-4 years, but SWtoR has already been in the works for longer then that. Because of the flawless track records of making games they have earned the right to take as long as they want, but because it's been in development for so long you can expect a spring 2010 release. 8. Gameplay linear? Yes it will be. While technically possible to create great stories in a non-linear environment. Have you even purchased a Bioware game before? Enough said. 9. Housing? Player Cities? Housing and player cities also goes against the grain of their story-driven mmo where players are heroes, not housebuilder or crafters. How much time did you spend worrying about someones house when watching a SW movie? Don't get me wrong I thought housing was neat in SWG, but if the game is fun to play who has time to fool with a worthless hosue. 10. Combat system. Not much is known. But it will be smaller variety on the WoW/EQ formula. Sort of like other games like TCoS or AoC tries to change the formula. Don't expect something truly different, but something towards those lines. Maybe with a few twitch elements here and there. The formula that works is the formula to use unless proven other wise. TCoS & AoC have that 1-20 newbie feeling of "oh wow this combat is awesome." Then later on you get tired of pressing worthless buttons just so they could make the combat system different. Why should I have to press four directions for one spell? I feel some MMO companies need to jump on board with a skill based system. That doesn't mean FPS, but more of a timing system. Allow the players reflex skill to determine the power outcome of the skill . . . how strong is the force /w you? 11. Jedis. This time period is chosen to appeal to all the kids who wants to have a light-saber swining jedi (or sith). It is the lowest common denominator. There is no two ways about. But the uniqueness of the jedi character will drown in the multitudes of them after a while. Will that feeling of "wow a lightsaber" last? After you watched SW once or twice were you no longer a SW fan? Of course you were, more so. It won't get old, and there are enough players that prefer different play styles then what the Jedi/Sith will offer. The play style won't appeal to everyone, and many people like to be "different." 12. PvP. A bit unclear. Except it to be children friendly. But since it is factional there must be some. A cross between WoW and WAR is not unheard of. Can anyone honestly expect something more hardcore with the direction this game is taking? The direction of the game will take the direction of the fans. WoW was released with virtually no PvP. Fans made it clear they wanted PvP mainly because that's what the Warcraft franchise survived on. The SW universe is no different. With out wars it's a movie about stars. 13. Graphics. Most likely next-gen graphics. Some improvements on existing ways of doing it. Maybe similar to AoC quality. Honestly don't expect AoC quality in concerns to character detail. AoC is unrivaled except maybe for Aion or FFXI. You can expect SWtoR to have well polished worlds and characters with A LOT of attention to detail. That detail will be "the little things." The types of art decisions that are created to emerse you into your character and the planet you're on. Imagine a believable cartoon not replicate of RL.
Conclusion: Conclusion: You really want this game to be awesome, and you're upset that you don't currently play a MMO that you really enjoy. You're looking for someone to make a comment to build your faith that SWtoR will be a great game. You want to have hope that you will be able to re-live your SW fantasies. You're not going to find that type of hope here, but you will be given a fair opporunitiy to be proven wrong next year. This game is the NGE that LA always wanted. It will be linear, story-driven, have few hours of longevity, cater to the light-saber crowds, kids - tie in with graphical style of the Clone Wars, little crafting, not hardcore pvp, not many options, but lots of hand-holding and lead you through the maze.. Some might now jump in and say that it is guess-work, that we don't know all the facts; that maybe there will be deep crafting, hardcore pvp, housing, space flight etc. But these comments are ignorant and nothing to do with the truth. Truth is that the path of TOR is already set and it is set up for eye candy and a hollow gameplay. Not a real MMO as it won't be that massive or free. Games make and break at launch now. There is no time to make space six to twelve months after (and what good did it really do SWG in the long run). There is no time to make that expansion that fixes all the problems (WAR + AoC). Either you make it or you will suffer a slow, suffocating death. Bioware has taken the easy route of doing everything as simple and dumped-down as possible. It won't be hardcore pvp, it won't be massive diverse game with many play-options like crafting and non-combat professions. What game companies does not understand is that the whole foundation of mmos is built around the principle that players should have the option of doing what THEY want in the game. Interact in many ways and not just kill-botting each other or npcs over and over. The combat oriented gamer should want the crafters and non-combatees to give flair and atmosphere to their game - to be able to interact with when needing an armour or a new weapon. This is what breathes life into the genre. What Bioware is doing is to put one more nail in the mmo genre coffin. This game might get close to a million boxes sold or even 1.5 - but in the end it will be like many other mmos out there with empty, EMPTY servers after six months. People will buy it for the name, Star Wars, but leave when they see there is no freedom in this game. For Bioware it will mean not only breaking even, but also making a big chunk of cash - but for the players - the gaming community - it is just one more way to kill PC gaming..

Is the game out yet? No.
Judging by the size of the original post I would get the impression you think everything about the game is already out. Posts like this are just annoying because your judging the entire game with the title "an epic FAIL already" even though not enough information is out.
Wait until the game is released before you make a judgement like that imo -_-
There is a reason people from your past did not make it to your future.
im soooo glad this person has made our decision for us, oh the great prophet has said this game will already suck, LOL and its not even in beta yet . These posts made by people like this is sooo funny.
I for one won't be bothering with this game anymore if the no-space combat/exploration rumour turns out to be true. If one thing i was looking forward it would have been space exploration/combat in this game I mean they could have taken the formula in Mass Effect and applied it, it's already there and it was pretty fun!
excuse me? is this the whole contribution you're gonna give to the thread? asking why I am not banned cuz my nickname doesn't suit your standards? YES i know it's a retarded nick and YES i know it's a retarded tagline aswell...i intended it to be so cause when i registered i couldn't be bothered to write anything smarter. So either post a comment on the subject or bugger off somewhere else, where somebody gives a damn you got offended by somebodyelses nickname...like a psichiatrist or the like.
Can't even come up with new graphics... well they did make some huge freaking ugly weapons. Thats something....
Fail, fail, fail, fail!
Played: From Earth & Beyond, Anarchy Online, Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa (Beta), EvE Online, City of Villians, Atlantica Online, Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Pirates of the Burning Sea, PlanetSide, RF Online, Second Life, Fallen Earth.
Must I say It looks great! Best game ever made! I love the WoW graphics! I love the huge weapons and the ugly characters!

those are only test graphics, their actually going to be using the same graphic engine as toontown online, and some rescripted hello kitty island adventures scenarios with a starwarsy twist (their using ewoks!) so they can properly target the desired demographic
as the poster above me stated, time will tell ..... although i have to say looking at biowares back catalogue, i can see bioware being the ones laughing at the end of the day and not this thread poster who says the game is aimed at kids and such... whereas after reading the post i believed he was a small child or the thread starter could very well be a 35 year old man with the mentality of a 6 year old :P
basically
wait and see .... dont expect swg pre nge .... dont expect sandbox style class selection from 24 or so hybrid classes ... dont expect huge planets ... dont expect player housing (although this is more of a realistic possibility ... expect a well made bioware star wars game in which i believe everyone will grow to love when they finally get to see what bioware want to achieve and improve upon in the mmo universe
First - Please be aware of the implications when you bandy about a word like 'epic'. Especially when everything you're describing as 'fact' or whatever it is just happens to be entirely based on your personal tastes.
Second - Also be aware of the implications of bandying about 'fail' for the same reason.

1. You're completey wrong about Hype > Reality and the simple fact that you believe that belies a deep inability to form coherant thoughts worth expressing.

*yawns*

Dont worry, these fools are scared becasue they know that every mmo on the planet is on the edge of extinction.
I for one won't be bothering with this game anymore if the no-space combat/exploration rumour turns out to be true. If one thing i was looking forward it would have been space exploration/combat in this game I mean they could have taken the formula in Mass Effect and applied it, it's already there and it was pretty fun!

How is this guy not banned yet??
excuse me? is this the whole contribution you're gonna give to the thread? asking why I am not banned cuz my nickname doesn't suit your standards? YES i know it's a retarded nick and YES i know it's a retarded tagline aswell...i intended it to be so cause when i registered i couldn't be bothered to write anything smarter. So either post a comment on the subject or bugger off somewhere else, where somebody gives a damn you got offended by somebodyelses nickname...like a psichiatrist or the like.

Copy a 6 (?) years old game = EPIC FAIL!
Can't even come up with new graphics... well they did make some huge freaking ugly weapons. Thats something....
Fail, fail, fail, fail!
Played:
From Earth & Beyond, Anarchy Online, Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa (Beta), EvE Online, City of Villians, Atlantica Online, Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Pirates of the Burning Sea, PlanetSide, RF Online, Second Life, Fallen Earth.
Troll, troll, troll, troll!
Ignore him, please.

Can't I say it will fail?
Must I say It looks great! Best game ever made! I love the WoW graphics! I love the huge weapons and the ugly characters!

those are only test graphics, their actually going to be using the same graphic engine as toontown online, and some rescripted hello kitty island adventures scenarios with a starwarsy twist (their using ewoks!) so they can properly target the desired demographic
time will tell
as the poster above me stated, time will tell ..... although i have to say looking at biowares back catalogue, i can see bioware being the ones laughing at the end of the day and not this thread poster who says the game is aimed at kids and such... whereas after reading the post i believed he was a small child or the thread starter could very well be a 35 year old man with the mentality of a 6 year old :P
basically
wait and see .... dont expect swg pre nge .... dont expect sandbox style class selection from 24 or so hybrid classes ... dont expect huge planets ... dont expect player housing (although this is more of a realistic possibility ... expect a well made bioware star wars game in which i believe everyone will grow to love when they finally get to see what bioware want to achieve and improve upon in the mmo universe
old thread is old, but what the hell.
First - Please be aware of the implications when you bandy about a word like 'epic'. Especially when everything you're describing as 'fact' or whatever it is just happens to be entirely based on your personal tastes.
Second - Also be aware of the implications of bandying about 'fail' for the same reason.
OP is known for whining all over the forums so don't mind him. Ignore is your friend.
