I'll go over my impressions really fast. I'm not here to write a review, I'm not qualified to do that and I won't pretend to be, I'm just going to point out issues which bother me a lot and eventually disappointed me.

I didn't expect the game to be great, but it I didn't expect it to be bad either, I was wrong, it's really not a very impressive game.

positive:

*game runs very well

*interface is nice to use

*music is quite good

*graphics are ok, much less good than Aion trailers, but still not bad

negative

*Very standard MMO....... kills 10 of X, collect 4 of Y

*No goal or reason to be there......, you feel like you're dropped into a world where you don't belong

* text is mediocre at best.........., it's definitely translated by people not used to MMO, the language and terminology used isn't impressive

*Combat is very boring........... for the first 10 levels, you get very few abilities

*Game is a grind............, maybe I've played too many MMO, but <target mob> <kill mob> <target mob> <kill mob>..is what you'll be doing for about 4 hours non-stop to get to level 10

*NPC's did not speak to me (sound)................, maybe they will fix this, I don't know

*Players are mostly just soloing,........... no real incentive to group, maybe this will change in later levels, I don't know

*Places you start in are way too small,......... too many players all dumped into starting places, you feel like a person trapped in a box

*No real story..........., almost no lore, I felt lost? and it felt a bit pointless to be there

*There's something wrong with the game's horizontal vision,..... imagine looking through a camera and missing a good part of the side view of the world, that's what it's like when playing Aion, they restrict vision to the left and right

If I had to give it a score? Shrug, I guess 4/10. Anyway, I hope this helps, yes it's a very negative review, but that's how I felt about the game.

uh i thought you guys were under an nda? not?

haha yea silently removed everything pointing to eu beta, you will have to remove any translation and sound comments too though, else you're still giving yourself away...

What point is there to an NDA on a game that's already been released? The only difference is the English translation ( which apparently sucks like most asian to english translated mmos ). You really need an NDA for that? LOL

I am pretty much same mindset at you the game isn't bad and seems quite stable.lBut its much of the same WoW,WAR like game play/interface nothing special here if you have played one of em you have played em all.

  • Cristina1Cristina1 Member UncommonPosts: 372

Yes, the biggest problem is that its just another WoW or WoW type game with different skins, you just grow wings instead of having flying mount. I have done this a million times before and i am not doing it again. YOU CAN FETCH 10 BUNNY TAILS BY YOURSELF DAMNIT!!

Its an asian GRINDING ORGY like any other - what do you expected ?

  • JimmydeanJimmydean Member UncommonPosts: 1,290

Obviously it's come to the point where everyone expects to receive a Handjob upon entering the playing realm of a new game. Aion never said it was innovative, it takes the features of the current genre and improves on them. WoW wasn't intuitive either, and it's done quite well.

Also, judging and MMO on the first 10 levels? Smart. I'm sure you enjoyed Heroic Striking your way through level 10 and Sinister Striking your way through level 10 as well, much more action packed.

And to top it off, I hit lvl 20 in China live without grinding once, so I don't know where you are pulling your info from.

Ok, same old mmo.... but it's the most polished of them all (world is even more alive than lotro and wow. It's also the only game since Wow that is able to show footprints on relevant surfaces - this should tell a lot about the world polish ;) ).

... but then there's also the sad immersion breaking zoning.

There is a lot of lore and story. Are you sure you got to level 10? Because the main story line unravels nicely, you are sent back into your lost memories (something like AoC, but interactive in some scenes) with cut-scenes, npcs telling you more and more about the Abyss and the other races, etc...

... at least on the Chinese version.

I don't have this problem here, I am playing on widescreen fullhd in 1920x1080.

Couldn't agree with the entire post more.

I went from 1-10 in under 2 hours, easy, with quests still to complete. I seriously question if I play the same game as half these people. I thought the story line was actually pretty decent, nothing spectacular, but works fine for an MMO. 1400x900 widescreen resolution looked fine, didn't feel like I was missing part of the picture? No reason to group? The areas are too small with too many people? They're channeled, it's populated like that because it's a preview weekend, lol.

Very odd, There is a story and a questline explaining why you're there and your place in it......

In the CNOB the dialogue and the story were very well written, of course I was using a patch for english that was more than likely NOT written by the NC soft people so it may be completely different.... which is a shame.

As far as crowding the Starter areas had different instances in order to prevent what you're describing. Hope they didn't cut that.

From your statement about Graphics, not looking like the trailers and Horizontal vision problems, It seems like either a Personal Vid card issue or they've made a HUGE change in the client.  The fact that NPCs don't speak to you???? makes me think it may be the second more than your own Video card.

Combat and Grinding are pretty much personal views so I can't really comment on that. I can say this though, It should pretty much only take about 2 hrs to reach 10 if you're doing the quests.  Grinding the Mobs doesn't give the same xp as doing the quests, but it will net you other things.  And of course you should always move when fighting to get the benefits of +evasion,+def or + atkpower.

I'd like to hear from others who may have also played either the Chinese or Korean Versions (the Korean version actually has more than the Chinese beta did, including Voiceovers)

Other than that, Can I have your acct if you aren't going to play it?

I agree, i also played on china servers and hit level 25 without grinding at all. and this was with a million bots in some areas where i couldnt even do the quest. there is TONS of quest to do if thats the way you like to level.

yeah there isnt a ton of skills at first but later on there is plenty, your skills bars start to fill up quick in the later levels.

as far as the quest being go kill X amount of mobs or go pick up X amount of bags off the ground, what do you expect from a MMO these days? you can thank warcraft for the mindless quest that make people run around and feel like a UPS delivery guy. seems all the new games have adopted that style.

you want real quest try Asherons Call.

So would I. Sounds possible that the NA/EU version might have been stripped down compared to the China/Korean versions.

Because so far everyone attacking the review are doing so from the Chinese/Korean game perspective, it seems.

depends how you look at it, Lotro and wow pvp is the most horrible thing i have ever whitnessed in my life. so if you like some pvp then Aion blows it away.  If you like to just raid and pve then stick with lotro and wow because Aion as much as i saw didnt really have much of that.

but i only made it to 25 so i dunno if there are big raids at later levels.

Yes, apart from a world even more polished and alive than lotro and wow and a 3rd NPC faction, its the same old mmo.

Aion is without doubt one of the top mmos, but if you are  bored with this type of game play it's not much different.

But I'd still encourage you to get the beta to take a look. It's not every day that developers manage to release a polished and finished game... when was the last time this happened? 2 years ago with Lotro?

I agree/disagree with some of your points. I agree with your Positive points, except not sure what you meant by the graphics because all the videos made for the game so far are based off the same engine your playing on. I'm pretty sure they have it all on the highest possible settings too for those videos, maybe you don't but okay. I disagree with some of your negative points. So far, I go around and I constantly talk to other players, except I'm forcing myself to do it because I know this beta's gonna end this Sunday! Of course there isn't any incentive to group, whats the point right now, whats the point in getting to level 10 or even 30? Our progression will be lost. The point of this beta is just to test things out, unless you wanna test out how groups work (I grouped once and it seems to work fine) then theres no point. Everyones soloing just to try out the features for themselves, maybe decided whether they should preorder the game or not if they havent yet.  Now, I've played almost every other pay 2 play big mmo out there from Everquest to World of Warcraft. This is an mmo just like those video games and it does the same thing, quests and killing to level up. How else would you expect to gain experinence and gain levels? Just keep doing quests, I havent seen any other mmo do different. I dont see how that is a negative point. If you dont like it, I dont think you should be playing mmorpgs at all then. I thought all the text was fine, few problems here and there but its still in closed beta. But no english voices are in yet, I admit I was a little dissapointed  at think cuase I thought theyd have em in for the american client. You also say theres no goal or reason to be there.... Okay... Again maybe you shouldnt play MMORPGS. I dont think a single one has a main boss and end of game event/credits roll. When you play these video games, you create your own goals wheter its exploring everything, collecting best items, reaching top level, or becoming best pvp or pve player. You said starting places are too small, maybe you should reword this because you start in a zone thats massive btw incase you never opened your map, but if you mean that its too crowded, then yes its true. Theres only 1 server we can play on and it just started today so it would make sense that it would be crowded, possibly hard to gather items since everyones waiting, but its only closed beta, everones gonna spread out when it goes live with a bunch of servers.

Basically a lot of your negative points are invalid since its just closed beta, I would play the game at launch or open beta before it and judge it then when the games more complete.

  • reploidxreploidx Member UncommonPosts: 320

Seems everyone is to quick to judge what the game is seeing that its just a preview event and nothing truly has been released. I understand you might of though you where going to get the "WoW-Killer" that everyone likes to throw around, and it didn't meet your expectations, but your judging a game on a preview. You could of seen what it was like on You-tube, but clearly you just thought it was different and saw that it wasn't. Maybe you should wait for the game to go live first before putting all your apples in the basket.

Sounds like a great game, I hate games where you need to join a guild and make a 23414 friends before you are able to kill somthing, much more fun to go out ther and start build your character and then learn to know people and eventually join a guild for the social part of the game not becouse game system forces you.

  • ElectriceyeElectriceye Member UncommonPosts: 1,171

What the hell are these negatives?   You need to tell us your impressions on Aion as Aion, not as 'yet another MMO'.

    1. kill x of y.
    2. combat is boring 1rst 10 levels.
    3. game is a grind
    4. people are mostly just soloing (in the early levels)*
    5. places you start in are way too small

These 'negatives' are present in every traditional MMO.

    1. No goal or reason to be there
    2. No real story

The lore is very rich and you have a purpose, there's a story, but see, you need to READ the quests to figure out what's happening.

    And finally:

    1. There's something wrong with the game's horizontal vision.
    2. Text is mediocre at best.

Again, I get the impression you're just lying your !@# off. Text is very well written, it's perfect in fact. The game's view is just like any other MMO, it's got nothing wrong with it.

    This leaves us to:

"NPC's did not speak to me."

They would have spoken to you at launch, but too bad you won't be playing!

    *:EDIT

I think all of the critisism so far is just pointless, but that one is just plain stupid.
