I totally agree with that review, I played for about 3-4 hours and it felt like any other freaking asian grinder. If you like being a mindless zombie running around naked looking for a mostiquo or a peacock to kill, this is the game for you.

Since Aion has released in Korea and China, have WoW subscriptions gone down? Because last time I checked, they were still on the rise.
*Players are mostly just soloing,........... no real incentive to group, maybe this will change in later levels, I don't know
That part is probably nothing to worry about since almost all MMOs are sologames for the first 15 levels or so.
But of course it might continue so later, I missed the trailer since I been busy so I have no clue whatsoever.
But most people seems dissapointed by the game. I was kinda hoping for a really nice game but the kill X quests is a turnon for me, I am already playing EQ2 where I at least can avoid those quests most of the time since it got massive content. I am not changing game to something that is basicly the same I am playing.
But I will of course test the game myself before deciding anything. To be honest, I think TOR, WoDO or GW2 will fit me better. Still thanks for the review, not what I had hoped for but most games I try doesn't work out for me anyways, particulary not asian games (except Japanese games, they seems to fit me better, at least the single player RPGs and fighting games).
I'll go over my impressions really fast. I'm not here to write a review, I'm not qualified to do that and I won't pretend to be, I'm just goint to point out issues which bother me a lot and eventually disappointed me. I didn't expect the game to be great, but it I didn't expect it to be bad either, I was wrong, it's really not a very impressive game.
positive: *game runs very well *interface is nice to use *music is quite good >> I'm actually not that fond of the music. *graphics are ok, much less good than Aion trailers, but still not bad
negative: *Very standard MMO....... kills 10 of X, collect 4 of Y >> What mmo isn't like that? Would you like a quest to go out, get naked and dance an irish jig? I really don't see how innovative an mmo can get when it comes to things like this. *No goal or reason to be there......, you feel like you're dropped into a world where you don't belong >> I don't understand where you're coming from. If you're talking about the characters storyline, then I'm gonna have to say you didn't pay attention to it. * text is mediocre at best.........., it's definately translated by people not used to MMO, the language and terminology used isn't impressive >> I thought it was a decent job. *Combat is very boring........... for the first 10 levels, you get very few abilities >> From what I've seen combat was no more and no less than any other mmorpg, aside from the aspect of aerial combat thrown in.
*Game is a grind............, maybe I've played too many MMO, but <target mob> <kill mob> <target mob> <kill mob>..is what you'll be doing for about 4 hours non-stop to get to level 10 >> Would you like mobs to slash their wrists and give you their exp? Every mmorpg has some grind aspect to it, whether its masked in the form of questing or not. *NPC's did not speak to me (sound)................, maybe they will fix this, I don't know >> It's beta, and the english voices aren't in yet. *Players are mostly just soloing,........... no real incentive to group, maybe this will change in later levels, I don't know >> Group incentive generally starts around lvl 15+ since that's around the time you get a lot of group quests. Most people will generally solo early on anyways, just to get a feel for the game at their own pace. *Places you start in are way too small,......... too many players all dumped into starting places, you feel like a person trapped in a box >> What mmo isn't like that on early on? *No real story..........., almost no lore, I felt lost? and it felt a bit pointless to be there >> You weren't reading. Just from that comment I can tell. *There's something wrong with the game's horizontal vision,..... imagine looking through a camera and missing a good part of the side view of the world, that's what it's like when playing Aion, they restrict vision to the left and right >> Eh? I guess you don't know how to pan the camera.
If I had to give it a score? Shrug, I guess 4/10. Anyway, I hope this helps, yes it's a very negative review, but that's how I felt about the game.
>> My personal opinion 7 or 8 out of 10. It's not amazingly innovative, but it's honestly a good and polished game. If you plan to try it please give it an honest go with a clear unbiased mind. You don't like it, that's cool, but give a thorough unbiased input if you plan to throw down a review about it.

I spent my first 12 hours on Aion today and thoroughly enjoyed the heck out of it. It was nice to play with some old friends that I have parted ways with since we play different games now, I feel that sometimes it’s not always about the game that makes it fun. However, when I just jumped on MMORPG to see how other people felt, curious maybe, to see if they had the same feel for the game that I had.
That was the only disappointment I felt today. I just can’t thank MMORPG enough for giving me an opportunity just to play the game, when all else failed, when GAMESTOP didn’t even know what a beta key was, when half of china was already at endgame. They pulled through for us, and the way we repay it is long and angry posts about how it is the game is terrible after playing it for 12+ hours, TOPS!
What did you really think that you were going to play? It’s an M-M-O-R-P-G, they follow a certain formula that WORKS! Just like a platform jumper, when you jump on a ledge, do you get mad because you jumped on a ledge? NO, because you know you are playing a platform style game, just like shooters, rpg’s and RTS’s. You play the game because you know what you want to play for fun, or maybe you really don’t.
Look, at the detailed graphics. The number of colors used in that lvl 7 mob.
Look, at the reflection of you in the water, and of other players. Not many games can do that without putting alot of pressure on your Gcard.
Look, at that clean and simple UI that makes COMBOS easier to get off. This game actually has a combo system, just like FFXI!
Look, at how easy it is to find that bunny you need to kill 20 of, and the NPC to bring back the tails.
Look, at how customizable your toon is.
Look, at how much detail is in level 9 gear. I was wearing rags in wow for the first 12 levels.
Look, at the fact that you get it for free. Most mmo's make you either commit to paying for a beta, this is free drugs in my opinion.
Look, at the fact that you are now playing a MMORPG in a real 3D environment. The fact of flight adds a third dimension, just imagine the new dynamics that they can add. PVP and PVE-wise.
Yes, there is some issues with the game. The game guard is causing a problem for a good friend and he wasn't able to play, but customer service was there for him through the whole thing. I personally feel they should of made it twitch based, it would of given flying pvp the most challenge. But it is no means a game-breaker for me.
The KS'ing, annoying at best. But someone wrote previous there is a reason for that in higher levels, that is what I thought. But I'll tell you one thing, it made that little bunny tail quest a challenge for once. And made me break out some ole school mob camping skills I haven't used in awhile.
Look the game is tight, you can't deny that. If you don't like it, then that is your choice. But do us all a favor and don't sit here with post after post bashing a game that you only played for maximum 12 hours.
If anyone has any questions or comments, I'll be ingame this weekend under my name.
I was not going into this "closed" beta with any kind of hype or anything, but it was mediocre game with wings, and very dated graphic engines. I will not stand up in the NA market place very long. Lineage 2 already does everything Aion does, and really think Aoin is not up to par with games LotRO, Vanguard, Warhammer, EQ ect, it is a game that looks f2p, with the same same graphic executions as rapplez online. The settings where full blast on my friends pc and it is was just mediocre, at best. This game is aReleased title, pulling the same bullshit NcSoft over and over with these "closed NA" beta , the game is released, in Korea so anyone has the right to review it, they made no attempt to cater tio NA, we are just a sales figure.
sounds like someone dont know how to adjust video options very well. aion has nothing realy new but improves on old mmo things. the graphics are good but not high end enough to make people have to buy new comps to play it ie like aoc was.
overall aion will be a good game. it wont be nothing new but somteimes its better to just improve on old than try something stupid
had the game maxed, and it looked "ok" , granted i understand they can't go hi res because of the flying part, but the game lacked atmosphere in sound and graphics. They relay to much on big breasts, and the breastsa them selves don't even jiggle !
you cannot be serious with that last part you just said. When I played on korean retail the one thing that stuck out above all else was how well done the atmosphere was. The graphics work for this game and the world felt unique, vibrant, and alive. Plus I thought the sound fit the environment very well, especially the soundtrack.
What I find hilarious is that the Aion fans have been so defensive whenever someone calls Aion a "WoW clone" and their best defense in this topic is "yeah, its like every other MMO out there, so what".
Im testing it out and I may get it a month after launch but lets face facts here people: Aion is VERY average.
*There's something wrong with the game's horizontal vision,..... imagine looking through a camera and missing a good part of the side view of the world, that's what it's like when playing Aion, they restrict vision to the left and right
Doh! the Chinese do not have peripheral vision that's why
On a more serious note. The moment i found out tanks gets heal abilities through talents or skills or w/e i instantly dismissed the game. I prefer the good ol trinity where the tank relies on other classes for healing. Call me old fashioned or stuck in my ways but i will always be a holy trinity kind of guy
Weird because everyone I've met inside the beta seems to be enjoying themselves. I think most people are coming from AoC and WAR, and after buying those games and betaing Aion, its clear that NCSoft has their stuff together. The game is by far one of the most polished games I've had the chance of playing. When I logged in for the first time yesterday, there was literally a sea of white names, but I had 0 lag my entire playtime. The graphics are better than most games and the world feels alive to me.
My friends also played and they are both in hardcore wow raiding guilds. They had nothing but compliments for the world, characters, and the music. I think they found the brief cutscenes to be a nice addition, but we also went in knowing that we would not be seeing the true game because that is PVP. Our goal was to get to 9, unlock our real classes, and then go to an area where the dueling was happening. We did just that, and let me tell you, the pvp incorporating the flight mechanic was more fun than anything we've done in BGs (both WoW and WAR).
This game cannot be judged on a beta it is a PvP game with a PvE starting point.
Yes it can be, maybe you are just a slow burner, it takes a while for you to realise what the game si about. For some, we need less than 30 minutes. Especially with Aio, its same old same old, but worse, its appart straight away.

Indeed, it takes skill and cleverness to realise what the game is about. In less than 30mins, we know what the game has to offer, as we got to experience endgame raids and skirmishes. we got to experience crafting, flying, aerial combat. /sarcasm.
Fact is, no you can't judge any MMO on 30mins, except if it's DF, as nothing works and it's all akward and badly designed, so to progress you need to go through hell to do so. But this is an exception.
What you can do however, is not like the art, or the combat, or the traditional way of levelling up, but this is true with every other MMO, and it's all opinions. But you can't figure out what it has to offer in 30mins.
Yeah, Aion is nothing new. Players who tell you that, are like LOTRO players that act if LOTRO is so much different from WoW. This doesnt mean that it has to be new for ppl to like it. Besides, something completely new can be crap too.
People just want something different, yet perfectly working, fun, engaging etc. Aion is very similar to WoW, LotRO, AoC, WAR, with a bunch of innovations, but basically standard MMORPG.
We will not get something different, perfectly working, polished anytime soon. Live with it. If you are tired of MMORPG gameplay, I dont blame you, it indeed does get old, but nobody is going to pour money into new ideas, simply because we as the MMO audience dont actually stick with them. Lots of stuff has been tried, and abandoned in favor of WoW or its clones (LotRO, WAR etc.) time and again.
It just doesnt pay to make something different these days, until someone strikes gold by pure happenstance, because the MMO audience is far, far too demanding and fickle.
Aion is the best standard MMO as far as I can tell. If you dont like it because you are tired of MMO gameplay, thats just tough luck. I suppose that means you ll have to wait for ToR and hope it does something new, yet cool and interesting and long-lasting etc.

I'm sorry bub, but you can't determine what criteria or time frame "others" use to determine if they like a game or not. Judgements are personal. Your way is not the "right" way for anyone but yourself.
If someone doesn't even want to stick around to try end game because they don't like the early part, then that's their call and it's legitimate for them. They can voice their opinion on what they experienced and people can take or leave it on it's own merits.
With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

Yes, and? Where in my post did I say that he doesn't have the right to hate the early part? It is all opinion after all.
I was saying that nobody can know what the game offers by playing it for 30mins, Anybody can hate it, but they don't know what the game is about, they simply didn't like what they saw in 30mins, and that's perfectly fine.
But don't go on judging the whole game by saying "I know what the game is about, its nothing but a wow clone" without knowing squat. That's the same as lying or trolling.
You can judge the early levels you played and that's it, bub?
No suprise. All games from Asia are grind oriented. That being said people will flock to this game because it's the same formula that's been used over and over again, but the new enviroment entices people to pay & play.

negative *Very standard MMO....... kills 10 of X, collect 4 of Y (I agree with this) *No goal or reason to be there......, you feel like you're dropped into a world where you don't belong (I don't really agree with this. It starts off the same as every MMO I have played.) * text is mediocre at best.........., it's definately translated by people not used to MMO, the language and terminology used isn't impressive (I haven't tried the English beta, so I'm not sure, but the translation patch for the Chinese game wasn't too bad. ) *Combat is very boring........... for the first 10 levels, you get very few abilities (I don't agree with this either. The combo chains (forgot the name) give the combat a little bot more flavor than other MMOs) *Game is a grind............, maybe I've played too many MMO, but <target mob> <kill mob> <target mob> <kill mob>..is what you'll be doing for about 4 hours non-stop to get to level 10 (if you mean a quest grind, then it sure is. What game isn't a quest grind these days? Btw I'm tired of these grinds, too.) *NPC's did not speak to me (sound)................, maybe they will fix this, I don't know (I'm not sure if they spoke in the Chinese version, but there are cut scenes! How many MMOs have good cut scenes, or any for that matter? Not many.) *Players are mostly just soloing,........... no real incentive to group, maybe this will change in later levels, I don't know (I didn't group too much in the CHinese version, but I remeber hearing you get an EXP boost for grouping. There are vertain quests after level 10 that were pretty hard for me to solo. I actually skipped a few because I couldn't do them) *Places you start in are way too small,......... too many players all dumped into starting places, you feel like a person trapped in a box (I honestly didn't feel like that. It could be because you're in the beta and theres a shitload of people that have been waiting to play. ) *No real story..........., almost no lore, I felt lost? and it felt a bit pointless to be there (I don't know about you, but I enjoyed all the cut scenes. I'm not a fan of MMO quests, most of the time I just skim through to see my objective. The cut scenes are pretty damn good, though, especially using in game graphics.) *There's something wrong with the game's horizontal vision,..... imagine looking through a camera and missing a good part of the side view of the world, that's what it's like when playing Aion, they restrict vision to the left and right (I have no idea about this. When I played it seemed to be pretty standard. I even set my camera to max zoom, so I can get a full view of the area. )
If I had to give it a score? Shrug, I guess 4/10. Anyway, I hope this helps, yes it's a very negative review, but that's how I felt about the game.
I don't think you really gave the game a chance. Hopefully you didn't go in playing Aion with korean grinder hatred in your heart (lol). I can agree on the fact that it is pretty much the same as all recent MMOs. I don't agree on the graphics being OK. The character models look pretty damn good. If you're talking about the environment, I felt the same way about the textures they used for certain things. Overall, though, the graphics are better than any MMO out right now (AoC does look good, but I prefer the look of Aion). I really don't think you can give it a score by only getting to level 10.
This game cannot be judged on a beta it is a PvP game with a PvE starting point.

I can agree with that on some terms, but some of those gripes shout a huge disclaimer "Hey I really didn't even play the game, I typed my name and pass, hit enter, and expect the game to be played for me."
What stuck out is the most is the immersion problem, well the campaign quests are there just for that reason. Even the forced 9-10 quest gives you a hint why you are there. I'm not really the type to sit there and nit-pic a game and compare it to other established ones really, I rather establish if I'm having fun or not and if not when should. I feel mid level I should have a strong feel of my class and maybe by max there were a few twist to keep me guessing, change up my playstyle, and or offer more variety to the current.
As for grouping, FF11 forced grouping for many years from the start, and for those years many were forced to sti in jueno waiting to do anything pug wise. I grouped at 8+ and thought it wasn't a big incentive other than spending time with friends at 16 you finally get out door dungeons/quest spots filled with "elite" monsters giving heaps of exp if you want to just sit there and grind them. (Kraal)
Other than that I can agree with most of the original postals quirks to a small degree. Only other thing I can comment on is quests, there are some interesting ones in the game including the weaken the mob and bring it to the guards to subdue, the event driven scout missions (well Ely is event driven so you get a movie from the two I've done (some war camp and pirate ship), as Asmo I had to run with the disguise into the camp in ChinaOB) A few of the quest do give titles and titles give stats, I did like that thought I haven't found a mage friendly one, just ones good for glad/temp and physical types.
Everyone seems to want to slay a dragon on their first day of the job. Atleast AION comes close in the flashback/awaken campaigns.

I never signed an NDA, so I'm not.
Digital signatures (i.e by clicking "I agree" at the end of some T&Cs) are legally binding. So therefore you did.

The game is a blend of Lineage II with WoW 100%
[(T+G=W)=Gr*Nf]-S=FoF
T=Time G=Gear W=Win Gr=Grind Nf=NoFun S=Skill FoF=FullofFail
"Hey, I'll tell you what. You can get a good look at a butcher's azz by sticking your head up there. But, wouldn't you rather to take his word for it?" - Tommy Boy
Also those people who complain about the kill x of these run this item to this person or collect x, please tell the developers how to come up with new types of quests if your going to complain about that...
