I kinda have to agree with the OP. As I was playing all the mobs seems to be taken up, but its to be expected with the sudden rush of people playing. One advice to everyone, if you want to level up fast and get first kills you'll need to be playing a mage. Basically they get every kill they want, and they do massive damage and the mobs die pretty much after their second spell.

It kinda sucks because I started out as a scout and for some reason I had to melee for a LONG time before I can get my hands on a bow and to actually have some range skills. I would of expected to start with a bow in the beginning and work my way up with meleeing at some other time.

Very standard MMO....... kills 10 of X, collect 4 of Y

    Game is a grind............, maybe I've played too many MMO, but <target mob> <kill mob> <target mob> <kill mob>..is what you'll be doing for about 4 hours non-stop to get to level 10

This is the part that confuses me though...So why dont you point me into the direction of where theres a modern MMO that doesnt have to collect this and collect that. Or kill, kill, kill....etc. Every MMO out there today makes you do these 2 things. Even skill based games you'll have to kill tons of monsters to skill up. Take away quests to collect things or killing things to level up or skill up and what do you have left? A MMO full of crafters? And then whats the point of even crafting weapons or armor or siege stuff when you dont even want to kill anything? People complain about these two simple things alot. Hell you guys can go play sims online or something then. It doesnt require you to kill anything or collect stuff.

What else is there really to do if you dont kill monsters or do quests? They are the most basic things you need to do to develop your character. If you guys dont like it, you should just quit playing MMO's entirely because there will never be a game out there that doesnt make you quest or kill monsters to level/skill up.

Pretty much sums it up Lobo. Just prettier graphics. Glad I have actually had the chance to try it out. Least now I know I won't buy another over-hyped MMO and only play for a month before I realize I don't like it.

I especially like the part where people are going off on the OP about saying the game is no different than anything else.  Their counter arguments prove the OPs point.  "This game is the same old thing."  "Oh yea?  Show me a game that doesn't use this forumula!!!!"  Hahaha.

It's an MMORPG, thus it is obviously going to follow the MMORPG format. If you don't like it, perhaps MMORPGs are not for you?

Yep of course, as being 'the same old thing' isn't something bad. Most of western MMOs are the same, and Aion's 1rst 20lvls is no different. It was already known years ago that Aion wasn't going to invent the wheel. Also, you gotta love the people who are dissing the game after 2-3hours of gametime!!!! Hahahaha. (did I do it right? )

Ahhh.. yes, the western world has 1 game: Wow. With 11m players (how many of those are in NA?).

There are probably more NA players playing Free Realms than WoW at the moment.

What most WoW lovers fail to recognize is that the largest majority of these "11 million" subscribers is on the other side of the world.

But it is sad, NA does have only one MMO and that is WoW..  That's because it is forced down your throat.   Walk into any store and look at computer games, you'll be lucky to find any MMO other than WoW on the shelf..  And usually its a big fukin display to boot.   Hell, there are a ton of people out there who don't even know anything other than WoW exists.   Sad, but true.    I give Blizzard credit, they even have free trial discs at the damn checkout in WalMart.

Market saturation at its finest.   Also, WoW is many peoples first MMO, so every new one is compared to it.   So, when they log into AION and realize "What, no arena e-peening and rep grinds with naked NE chicks?!"  <delete>  + <flame>

I don't think AION is a bad game, but I will stand by my statement that it will not thrive in the US market because of the exact mentality of a US MMO Player.   Most people complain they want something new, but when its given to them they shyte on it.

And what many WoW haters fail to realise is that, when World of Warcraft announced 10 million subscriber, they revealed that 2.5 million active subscribers are in NA, 2 million are in Europe and 5.5 are in asia.

This means that World of Warcraft completely dwarfs every other mmorpg on the market even if you take only the NA and European numbers, or even just the North Americans.

Are there more players playing Free realms? Not a snowball chance in hell. Free Realms has reported 2 million registrations, not active players. World of Warcraft has reported 2.5 million active (as in active accounts) subscribers.

This can all be found in the press releases.

Sorry to butt hurt you on your MMO of choice.

Sorry for actually having checked the facts before I open my mouth.

Also, WoW is not my mmo of choice, nice try though.

I never did understand the whole ''play for a day and make an opinion'' What happened to people getting into an mmo at launch and becoming part of it as it evolves, I dont recall any game that was perfect, had a ton of content, or was huge at launch, I like to start in a game and give it a fair chance to grow while I am becoming a part of it over time. I had thought thats what mmo's were all about, becoming a part of the world over a period of time, giving your input on the official forumns as the game grows to give the devs advice and direction that the players want, man alive have the mmo crowd wandered away from what the genre is.

I have to agree with another poster in this thread... and say some people need to stay away from MMO's and find another hobby for their off time.

As for Aion... it's quite nice, once they let us do some PvP in another event. This game should start getting real fun :D

Side note, I LoL'ed bad when i first entered the game and saw so many people on at once, and how smooth it ran. Then i thought about Warhammer and LoL'ed bad again.

I played the CHinese beta for a short of time b4 it went  retail, and to be honest, I was not impressed by the storylines, or the game plays, but the graphics were stunning to me. The only reason i want to play the NA beta because i want to see the world one more time.

Here are some of my best memorable snap screenshots:

After trying Darkfall this Aion seems like a kids game, PvP you say? i dont think you know what reall pvp is ;p

I thought I would never say this but after games like Darkfall I dont think i can come back to these autotarget=WIN button+fetch me 10 rabbit tails x1000 games..........bye bye 2002-2008, roll on the next era of MMOs which actually require a brain to play (and have real stealth element, adding another layer of tactics that you can use) and are actually fun instead of feeling like a job in a virtual chatroom for which i have to pay.

That is all, thank you and good night.

sounds like someone dont know how to adjust video options very well. aion has nothing realy new but improves on old mmo things. the graphics are good but not high end enough to make people have to buy new comps to play it ie like aoc was.

overall aion will be a good game. it wont be nothing new but somteimes its better to just improve on old than try something stupid

Aion didn't really improve on a lot of things. It also made a few things worse.

Most importantly though, I'm sick at tired of all these EQ/WoW clones. So damn tired. I always ask myself, why do I always keep going back to WoW after trying new MMO's? Because all of the new ones are exactly like WoW, just with a different skin. And personally, I'd rather play WoW or LOTRO than most of these clones.

That, and OP is left with nothing than some attempt at bashing the game that never promissed to be the innovation god or anything like that. It never even said it would kill WoW, people just want to think there is some legendary knight with wings of righteousness that will cut WoW's head off, as if something like this is possible when a game has millions of subscribers.

Play it, check if you have fun with it or not, and decide for yourself. Btw betas are focused on testing on their side, completely different from a game trial, although they can give some showoff like "based on beta feedback, we have changed this: *patch notes list*.

I actually love how lore and storyline progresses in Aion, it's not a known IP, so they expect you to know nothing about the game lore, and they do it very will with the memory loss and recovery.

had the game maxed, and it looked "ok" , granted i understand they can't go hi res because of the flying part, but the game lacked atmosphere in sound and graphics. They relay to much on big breasts, and the breastsa them selves don't even jiggle !

I can agree with this. I had the game on max possible settings running at 1920x1080 resolution and while I was hitting 70+FPS, the game does look a bit dated. What do you expect? It's running on a 5 year old engine.

I do have to give props to the developers though. They made the world look great. I happened to like it, although it does look a bit dated.
