Do you guys want a new forum where all gloves are off? Well, ok, MOST gloves are off, naturally we'll still have to watch for Racial Slurs and stuff like that, but other than that it'd be your place to go and get your rant on. You could flame all you wanted there, have all the EQ2 vs. WoW wars you want. This way you can have a place to do such things without cluttering up the board, we don't have to spend as much time deleting 50 million EQ2 vs WoW threads, etc...
Whatcha think? Vote in the poll and offer suggestions for the name of said forum? Something catchy to indicate the kinda flame wars which I'm sure will take place within. Just keep the name clean, not everyone will be visiting it and nor would they want to have to see a vulgar name in the forum list. Something like The Battlefield, The Boilerroom, The Flame Pit, etc.

Not completely, we still monitor the Spam forum for flames and such, we're a little more lenient there, but not much.

Good idea couldn't hurt to try...could it?
as long as it's completly isolated form the other forums, and the rants and flames don't affect the way other people talk in other sections
if you let them do whatever they want in there, you might have people that haven't read the RoC for the other forums, and think it might be alright in there also
for example, the guy that just signs up, the first forum he goes into is the "flame pit" because it souds cool.
he hears F**** B*** S*** things like that, and doesn't realize it's because of the certain forum
goes into the other threads and uses the words freely.
Also if two people get into it, we have grudges, and grudges don't stay in certain forums. We know this by experience
if it carries into the regular forums, it will make mmorpg.com a more controversial issue... (if that makes sense)

Don't worry, if it happens there will be a nice big Disclaimer on it, partially for that reason and partially to warn people who might not want to see whats in there and accidentilly clicked on it.
And as for the other forums, we'll still patrol those as vigilantly as we have been.

It would be a separate forum. In addition, posts made there would not count towards your rank or your post count...just like the SPAM forum. However, deleted posts in here would still hurt your rank.

So if you got your post deleted in this ''flame wars'' forum it will hurt your rank? Will there be cursing aloud? trolling? anything goes cept personal attacks and racial slurs? or how is it gunna be.

The full details are not ironed out yet. Basically some of our rules would be flexed...mainly those on Game X vs. Game Y wars and so on. Being really nasty to another person would still not be allowed...and of course posts about racism, sexism, hatred, etc will still get deleted.
Basically, we will post the rules in a sticky post when the forum is created...

just a suggestion playing on my last post (page 1)
maybe make a pop up disclaimer..or better yet
you click "flame pit" and instead of the direct forums, the disclaimer with the rules comes up, then you have to read the rules in order to enter ... and you have to check three diffterent "accept boxes"
but it's like three different multiple choice with accept or not, so 6 boxes
each on a different category
and everytime they switch places, so you can't just click "one two one" every time
everytime to you enter that is

I like being civil with people for the most part but some people are just plain stupid or naive or just flat out assholes.
I think it would be nice to have a forum where we can stop trying to be nice to some people and start saying what we really think. Put something on the intro that says
"check your feelings and thin skinned easily wounded ego's at the door"
I think its a testament to the love of freedom and free speech that we so need in these forums.

I would love to have the new forum.
The new forum could get rid of the annoying posts and annoying ppl from the Pub.
I want the new forum not because I will read that forum, it is because I wont read that forum.
I am glad at the great efforts the moderators are doing.
I believe in censorship. Censorship (or aka moderating) keeps the Pub forum on topic and fun to read.
Let me play devils advocate and say it probably won't work. Most respectfull members of the community don't start those threads anyway, and the trolls are just looking for a fight, so they will post their 'opinions' in the regular forums anyway (for maximum troll efficiency).
Anyway, that's always been my experience. I've seen poor mods the web over try this same idea and it never seems to work they want it to.

I vote no, for the sake of you all. a while ago(more liek 2-3 months ago) i was banned for breaking the rules, so I sent an email to teh staff apologized and stuff yea, yea, but anyways i know if we haev a forum liek this is going to be flame wars all the time.and we all know things could get out of hand easily, before 2/3's of the people here are banned id rather not have that forum. Or well if you know, you guys don't cross the line and can behave then go for it... I think.
Its nice to see that MMORPG is responding to demand. There is obviously a demand for this (although Little I would guess) Nevertheless, I like it and hope it keeps the trolls and flames out of the legit forums.
