Another question for addin : do you think leveling in the Abyss at lvl 25-40 is a good idea? I heard you can't xp there 10min without being ganked by some lvl 50 (so you can't do anything). I guess leveling outside the Abyss is better... When will the 1.3 version get released on korean test server? Thanks
I think this is one of the reasons this game is considered more group friendly than most after 25. Personally I will aim to be leveling almost completely with a full arranged group with a mix of RvR/PvP and questing/grinding. I have read in multiple places that leveling o utside of the Abyss is a slow and tedious process.
@Mugen - There are more WoW haters here than you think. kilkil has been awesome and received a ton of praise from us. Don't scare him off!
Stuff like that reminds me of the early days of Ultima Online... Its just in that case the Abyss was most of the game world. Having a few friends really goes a long ways to surviving and thriving.
That's the part I guess I miss the most...
Me too. Kilkil has explained all of this to us, and what I gathered from it is that this game is shaping up to take the parts that I enjoyed from 3 or 4 games and doing it really well. I wasn't paying this game much attention and I probably never would have preordered or played without this post.
Another question for addin : do you think leveling in the Abyss at lvl 25-40 is a good idea? I heard you can't xp there 10min without being ganked by some lvl 50 (so you can't do anything). Monsters in Abyss has lower HP and better exp you can feel it once you go abyss at lvl 25 and kill it.
Since Abyss is PvP area, gang can gank you anytime.
By my experience in Korean Server, there was almost no gank around on Aion's early time.
Because almost all korean just liked to grind to max lvl
(20hours nonstop xp'ing no quest no enjoying of whole game contents).
Whenever I played a game with usual korean, their attitude was always way like that
: Hardcore leveling -> at the top, having fun with killing grey PC(10-20 low leveled on)
and get some catharsis from it.
For them, all about having fun of game, or enjoing game is about to "Own stuffs easily on the top"
So there was almost no assjammers(backstab person who lvling) in abyss at first 2-3months i remember it
because I was living in abyss for Exp/Abyss Point all the time(I'm Hardcore pvp mania, no interest on quest/pve mostly)
But as soon as 50Lv coming out(3~4months passed since launch)
abyss started to be 50Lvl's slaughtering zone to ppl who lvling.
Killing low level'ed guy mean nothing in Aion, if you low leveled 9-10 from who killed you, you don't drop AbyssPoint.
But korean used to spent a day to clearing poor low levels. For what? uhh dunno.
I know in US/EU its also some kind of fun sauce for some people,
and i'm not blaming those people who like to slaughter
but it's not that major trend as much as korean i can say.
Some us/eu guys are having fun with slaughtering it for awhile,
but since there's no actual rewards on it they don't do it for all the day.
But sounds ridiculously in korean server there was quite many
'a day donater to clearing endless regenerating grey con PC(WITH FIRE and PASSION! EVEN PROUDLY!!)'
I used to played with US/EU peoples(about 10years experience).
Here's my expecting about 'how Abyss will be going on'
Since US/EU peoples like to enjoy game in all aspect of its contents, and joy every phase
also they aren't all about 'race to max level without any fun/mood'
(What most Korean liked to mad and giving all reason for gaming)
Abyss will be intense, keen, exciting and more serious directly.
So if you want to level first and joy Aion's most valuable and expensive, hard end contents,
what like raiding Menotios, owning Fortress, Instances that drop good max level gears
leveling in abyss whole time will be not that good idea
(Just expecting, should see whats going on at real launching first)
btw very good side of Aion is that
"This game isn't all about reaching max lvl and joying end contents"
Regardless their level there's
"Chance for them to earn their property, and Honour"
It's nearly related to this clue
"When the target you killing is low leveled about 8-10 than you,
You CAN'T get any rewards/exp/ap from the target"
There's very needed resources and rewards that only possible on special level tier.
For example Draconic resource that needed
to train Master Crafter step(400-420 crafting level costing alot to train)
dropped from 25-33 levels Balaur in Abyss
(very few on Asmodian main land, none on Elyos main land)
Another, with 50 level toons it's almost impossible to get rewarded from lower abyss fortress sieging
Since those fortress's guardian is 50lvl, 48-50 lvl toons are TOO HARD to get Abyss Point from guardian
so can't get reward Medals from sieging on lower fortress sieging.
also there's quite much other factor like this,
this factor is good source about that what i said above(what i can say the best thing that Aion did)
"There's a pie for everyone, regardless his low level/high level, casual/hardcore, PvE lover/PvP lover"
Thank you for everyone who left good comment to me

At time for DAOC, i was playing Plainshifter rr11 Valewalker with my multinational guild named to "As Usual" on Devon.
Not happening this time QQ bye good old days good time. Aion is good PvP game and well made game
but there isn't romance of daoc's 8v8 group setup fight yet that i mostly liked part on DAOC.
Time will lead people on that way.. so far for korean grinder. Stop grinding abyss point from NPCs and enjoy the pvp !
YOU ARE STRONG ENOUGH!! STOP BEING MAD ON GEARS!
But honestly, gears can make quite much difference in aion..not like daoc :x
No way to weighting on game anymore since I need to serve on army soon >;(
Not sure if this was asked but what is crowd control (CC) like? Can you be stunned indefinately (forever) until you are dead? Are there any immunities to stop you being chained CC'ed? Can you resist them at all?

Magic Resistance for it. up to what CC is it i can say if you spec your toons to Magic Resistance setup
you may resist about 50-70% CC and effects from magic
Thanks Kil. Got another question since you dont seem to need to sleep,
I noticed in some interview that you get bonuses from moving in a certain direction.....back-block, sideways-dodge and forwards-attack. Is this true? Are the bonuses noticeable?
Thanks Kil. Got another question since you dont seem to need to sleep, I noticed in some interview that you get bonuses from moving in a certain direction.....back-block, sideways-dodge and forwards-attack. Is this true? Are the bonuses noticeable?
Very noticeable. each bonuses affect to increasing/decreasing
your damage or block/dodge/parry/resistance of magic dmg.
All amounts of increase/decrease is about 15-20%(not exactly)
When you pushing to front your dmg increasing,
and decrease chance to block/parry and magic dmg resistance(only magic dmg)
And when you side stepping chance to dodge is increasing and there's no penalty i think.
And when you moving to backward increasing chance to block/parry and magic dmg resistance(also only dmg).
and decreasing your dmg.
There's only one exceptional bonus when you are jumping.
When you are in state of jumped increasing all kind of thing (dmg/parry/block/magic dmg resist etc)
But rate isn't high and effect remain only for 1-2sec
i remember jumping stat bonuses rates are about 5-10% it makes difference imo.
Overall Yes It makes Huge Difference like AOC(but i didn't played,,just heard about those bonuses).
Only a class is not affected by those bonus that much...poor Sorc(don't have much skill that castable while moving)
kilkil I have another question. With castle/keep sieging is there any viable strategy that can be setup like your party strategies or is the only way to capture one to Zerg? I mean if you could design a full group of 24 people could they take a keep? What would your strategy be for this if you had 23 people of whatever class you could?
I rekon it'll be a zerg. never been in the abyss but I imagine it'll be like in WAR probably. You'll just fight alongside a lot of other people and it'll be impossible to defend properly because nobody really cares about defending.

You've probably not been in good clans. In Lineage 2 we would have teams set up for defending. It's all up to the guild leaders. And of course like minded members.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Each fortress has it's own unique instance dungeon inside of it (1.3v) and only the faction that holds it can use it.
That gives me a good reason to hold it.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
not played L2 for that long but now that I think about it, there is incentive in Aion 1.3 to keep the forts with the new instances and secret rooms etc that one can only enter if your faction controls the castle. Guess I made a premature judgement, will just have to wait and see
edit: stayontarget beat me to it
2nd edit: I'd like to point out that in Warhammer Online it was more or less curtesy to let the other faction take the forts so that you can re-take it for the loot and additional renown (WAR's pvp xp).
My biggest worry about aion is leveling/reward for leveling.
First, the reason i like to level is to add to my character....add statistics, skills, equipment. Now i understand they have a nice equipment upgrade and the (forgot the name) 5 stones thing... But auto statistics and auto skills when i level?
I feel im going to miss the long term playability of tweaking my stats, changing my skill setup or whatever, to better fit what i need and how i play.
Im worried that the levels are going to get grindy later on in the game, and that im going to spend an awful amount of time to level up, only to have the excitement of adding stats and skill points to customize my charater.
Having a lot amount of time imbetween levels ontop of nothing for me to do when i level up seems like its going to get me into a who cares mood.
I just feel that a mmorpg without the option to mess up, lacks any depth and complexity as far as character building goes.
im hoping im just missing something and that aion offers a bit more than arranging 5 stones for me to mess with over 50 levels, especially if your not flying though the levels like a westen mmo.
am i the only one worried about this, or is this game about loot drops and pvp only?

Did you played DAOC? Templating on DAOC is very similiar to setting up gears on Aion.
Aion's gear setup and socketting mana stone, godstone have quite big variety.
By setting up your gears mostly focused on 'Magic Resistance'
you almost become magic immune.
If you pay your stuffs mostly on 'Damage stuff(crit rate, dmg increase)'
you almost become super mob grinder (may get grinded by enemy PC)
Or you can research and try best setup for your toon.
There's other useful stats that affect very well 'Block rate' 'Parry rate' 'HP increase" "Dodge rate' 'magic accuracy'
About customizing your toons while lvling there's not that much choice
but somewhat grinding will be there.
It's like original DAOC's lvling i thought, some other people who played much mmo
could reply to compare on other western mmo that had similiar term of original DAOC's exping.
so a mix between CoH and AC2 then? you can solo if you want, there is some repetative grind but if you party the grind is not as noticable, more fun and it's better XP.
I'd like to take this oportunity to say thanks to kilkil. You've really brought some insight into the game for a lot of people here and as I recall even caused some people that were unsure to pre-order it :P

Thank you
There's some period better to solo and some perios better to group follow my old memories(half&half i think..).
But easily can say if you aren't enough rich to abuse all kind of potion stuffs(require quite much Kinah for early game)
there should be better xp for group hunting. Except just one class the Assassin.
Assassin's speed of grinding mob is almost unbelivable,, i know the first guy hit max level (45 that time)
on a week after level cap released from 25(KOR OB limited cap to 25)
He was Assassin and 2nd guy hitted lv45 was also Assassin..
Anyway i believe if you aren't too impatient grinding is bearable haha.
Joy very wide aspect of Aion's cool contents ..
Not only level rules Aion but also Many other contents that concluded to Economy
Here's secret spoiler
Craft(TONs of income for early crafter Rockefeller in online lawl. But its huge Lotto)
Harvest(No Lotto(well sometime does) but stable earning from diligence working)
Explorer(There's treasure!! But how can we reach the El Dorado..
Well, Glide and climb that considered to you couldn't touch. Only for Elyos though? :P)
Rift(Just too fun to infiltrate to somewhere you didn't invited and do something)
Abyss(Final winner of Aion will be who finished Abyss Gear..Sometime better to not lvl up for AP. Serious!)
Boss Competition(Especially when ambitious Asmodians touch the treasure of Elyos theres fun coming)
All these kinda contents aren't area for bot players except few case of Harvesting.
And there's quite much thing i forgot to mention.
Whatever you try hard that could have worth and respect that concluded to economy(money, kinah)
by the way, your english isn't that bad, I mean you learned english simply by playing games and forums like this etc., which is very admireable!
I speak german myself but I know how dificult it is to pick up another language without being in the country that speak the language or having someone to talk to in person who speaks the language.
Adding one more, on lvl 41-44 period which exp requirement is getting harder with best conditioned group i could get 10% xp per hour(not exact). So with rough counting you may able to ding 1 level in 2days when you played 6hours in a day on that hard level period. Surely 46-50 period getting abit more cliff to be done, but don't be impatience. Since level don't rule this game at finally but AP. Because everyone will ding lvl50 someday, but no everyone gonna wear Abyss Gear, it makes difference Compared to getting most Abyss Gear, Lvling to 50 is just easy.
grind is only grind when advancing feels like work. If aion is enough fun to allow you to play without you really noticing any xp gain then it doesnt matter if it takes 2 hours to get a lvl or 2 weeks. Thats my opinion.
I have a suspicioun that Aion with its fast combat and plenty of pvp (which also rewards xp) is the type of game where grind doesnt matter because you're having fun.

ps. Nice to meet you mugengaia i read your post that made hot issues, it was good review(but be positive lol) ^^
ps2. no clue about 1.3 launching on our servers yet
Adding one more.
In abyss's 25-37 zone there's not that much stuffs to do as a full group and no elite mob in there.
I think NC thought making some worthy stuffs that required to do as group gonna make
gap between casual players(used to solo and paying little time on game)
and hardcore player(used to group with sticky friends with good team work).
If you guys did played any game that weighting on PvP, will know what i'm saying.
No one want to be kicked by 35-50 lvl gangs at 25-30lvl especially when you aren't passionated in game much .
That factor gonna let givee up light users by hardcore users, this is most serious problem to maintaining game.
So in early time of Abyss there's nothing much to do as group but solo i guess.
Theres enough stuffs for group and gangs on 37-50 lvl zone the time that you aren't noob anymore and know whats Aion.
One another info about my personal story 'why I'm doing my best on this thread'
I totally don't write this long and sticky usually .
When i write up texts on Korean thread seriously and giving alot of time like on this thread.
They just reply like this "o i just scrolled down dull(nub) wall of text"
"So what. you'd be better to study in school or work to earn your life than writing up this long and not funny or meaningful texts"
It's fucking serious and sounds retarded.
I never talk seriously with korean since my 14ages LoL
(at around that time started to playing UO/SC/Diablo with US/EU peoples)
I never went out to abroad and awesome university(went higher than average one, but having no moods on graduating it)
I studied english totally by computer games and playing with english peoples.
I liked to study and into deep about something that i'm on. But Korea and Korean
doesn't paying attention on it but be jealous and hate it even further trying to drive me as crazy one o.O
Since 14years old(atm 24) then I don't talk with korean about serious topic its totally useless but buy their hate lol.
I deeply undertand 'why most korean who has good talent not staying in korea but out to US or somewhere
there rational people is living. I'm seriously sick about Korean communities and their behaviour, attitude.
So don't flame me on that "Why you keep attacking your nation/people thats not good(or you looks loser on your community)"
Already sick enough for it. If i have some time to enjoy game more, i would quit korean server and play on US server zz.
Hate korean army! QQ.
ps. I always feels like "I'm at home" when talk/play with US/EU peoples.
Wouldn't flame you. I don't think there isn't a point in everyones life when they wish they lived somewhere else or something. You just have to make the best of it. It's crazy how different cultures play games differently though. At least you can play games with people you like~
I have a question for you. I know you are a cleric now, but on US server with new character what class will/would you choose?
I'm based on group playing and I used to lead group as leader since daoc.
If i needed to lead a group and there's some required classes cause no one wanted it,
i would role that class no one choosed.
(Like cleric on my server, I was Sorcerer originally. but changed to cleric since my cleric mate quitted Aion)
So in us server i would role cleric because no one want it
(most ppl around me and korean hate to heal and saving mates and figure it as a job that can't have honour/worth to play)
If i don't have much time and passion to pay i would choose Assassin or Ranger.
It's always fun to gank some player who new to game(or not ready to fight) with hiding
*edit. Sorry about that I'm editing alot i know that but i can't write down full post without a mistake at once
it's not my first language and I always finding one or more mistake
after posting is done especially when i writing very lone one

You may able to take lower floor's castle with 24man.
But its hard to do at upper floor castle, only way is zombie rush by Kisk resurrection.
Regardless you can or you can't there should be almost no chance to do that imho.
It'll be zergish most time because everyone want Medals.
And game's early time its just like War's sieging i think.
But after time passed more peoples started to having interest on Abyss Gear
that required quite much Abyss Point it getting more struggle while sieging.
Because Sieging is one of easiest way of quick AP earning in short time.
2 forces(48man) Sieging team could be eliminated by about 10 defending enemy race.
If all of your members not paying attention of backstab its not that hard
to die to 10 enemies even your race having 48man.
Usually taking down castle guardian have no much strategies.
but 'How to take care about enemy PCs' is up to strategies and Artifacts and players quality.
Adding one more, on lvl 41-44 period which exp requirement is getting harder
with best conditioned group i could get 10% xp per hour(not exact).
So with rough counting you may able to ding 1 level in 2days
when you played 6hours in a day on that hard level period.
Surely 46-50 period getting abit more cliff to be done, but don't be impatience.
Since level don't rule this game at finally but AP.
Because everyone will ding lvl50 someday, but no everyone gonna wear Abyss Gear, it makes difference
Compared to getting most Abyss Gear, Lvling to 50 is just easy.
once again a lot of good useful information thx
by the way, your english isn't that bad, I mean you learned english simply by playing games and forums like this etc., which is very admireable!
I speak german myself but I know how dificult it is to pick up another language without being in the country that speak the language or having someone to talk to in person who speaks the language.
grind is only grind when advancing feels like work.
