Rebel 'senator' removed

ObeeObee Member Posts: 1,550

It seems "Tux" has been removed as the Rebel 'senator' for not being enough of a cheerleader for the dev team.  His posts have been pretty negative towards the direction the game is headed, and especially towards the addition of zombies to the game.

In typical SOE fashion, they are locking and deleting posts about it on the OBoards.  At least they are finally tossing aside the farcical notion that the 'senate' was meant to be anything other than a cheerleading squad for the company.

you should ask Tux the truth on what he did that lead to this. Feel free to keep thinking that Tux is a victim. Attacking SOE staff in public and private because his private short term, ban based on his choice to use behavior that was not appropriate for the forums, brought on the results we have now. I expect more from leadership and especially of a senator. Tux decided to make this a public discussion and frame it to his opinion on what was going on. It's not the case.

I agree with the fact that he worked very hard for this community. You can ask him how many people from SWG have called to talk with him ever. I did and for a few hours several weeks ago to get to know him and try to find ways to work with him. But the rules are the rules.

Some people are a victim of their choices and want to blame the people that enforce the rules. Next time you get a speeding ticket make sure to tell the cop that it's his fault you were speeding and got caught. Then start yelling at him in public once you get the ticket. I bet that goes over just as well.

I like Tux but I am in a position that requires me to enforce the rules to the best of my ability. I will never live up everyones expectations and I understand that. Some things that I have to do in my position are not always fun, exciting, or bring on that "loving feeling" with the community. I asked that he allow me some time to figure something out and he took his anger to the forums with his other account (no one knew he was temp-banned but he and I. Tux made that public), stirred this kind of mess up for me, and now I am here replying to these threads, removing people that are attacking me in the forums, etc based on his choice not to act like a leader.

I apologize that his actions and my duties to enforce the rules have lead to this. It's unfortanate and not something I wanted. I did all I could do to work things out but the person you all are making these posts about took this too far and left me no other options. I won't ask anyone to try to see it from my side because that is not your job to do. I would ask that, before anyone else breaks any other forum rules, that they take some time to cool off. I did not want to post this discussion up. I prefered to keep it private but other people made choices that have left me to where I had to make a public response and explanation.

Again, I like Tux, I appreciate everything he did and / or tried to do and I am not happy with where we are with things now. I hope that he and I can talk again to discuss this in private but that is up to him. I want to continue to hear his ideas if he is willing to share them. I just have my rules that I have to follow and I was not expecting this to be anything like a celebration.

I don't mind talking to anyone that feels like approaching me in a mature way and leaves the attacks out of it. I would prefer that this discussion is stopped and I have asked that the moderators lock and / or remove any posts on this subject.

I ask this not to avoid the conversation but that it's not fair to Tux for any of us to have a discussion about this topic until he can provide his thoughts should he wish to do so. I want to be fair even though I am frustrated. Anyone that has worked with me in private over an issue can tell you that I am fair. I won't change that approach because of this either. I believe in communication and trying to work things out with members here that have issues.

The rules say to take these very types of topics to private messages because it starts lots of trouble in the forums when many of these things can be resolved in private. Had Tux made another choice then we would not be having this dicussion.

    Thanks,

    Draakull.

This was posted last night on the offical boards it was later removed. It sounds to be like a little kid crying about his sucker being taken away from him! Normally I would side against SOE on about everthing they do. This case glad to see it and its about time Senators should not be able to do what they want when they want and when they dont get there way throw a tantrum about it! He should have been complaining about bringing PreCU back lol!

Nice to see SOE still doesn't listen to their players. When your Senator isn't happy with the game, that says a lot.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike

Anyone familiar with the crybaby Draakull doesn't take even one thing he says seriously or anywhere near face value. Especially considering his very first thread as "community whatever he is" was nothing but a rant and full of childish and imbecilic behaviour that would have gotten him fired from any real company.

Draakul is comparing the moderation of SOE boards and disciplining of senators to traffic tickets?  Lol, wow that is really far out.  Heaven help any society whose justice system works like the SOE forums.

Also, Draakul's comments that Tux left him "no other choice" sound like a cop-out.  I'm sure there are a range of options available for addressing issues like this.  Too many SOE people seem to get tunnel vision and make bad decisions for some reason, thinking they have no other choice.  I could list a number of examples, but it's all been said before.

I must admit tha after reading his posts and seeing how he interacts with the rest of the  community I am incredibly unimpressed with the new community manager. He comes across as  unfriendly, impolite and utterly without any people skills.

I know Tux, he's a funny guy but I don't know the story behind this so maybe he might be happy to have the load off his shoulders. Draakul is about the worst thing to come along since Garva on the forums, seems SOE hired a very emo guy that takes too many things personally and talks about his personal life alot as well. Also Flurry has alot of senates/ex-senates out of all the servers (MasterCosmo, Anxiety, ponaif, Tux, etc) so they seem to band together.

The main skill requirement at SOE in my opinion seems to be a willingness to tow the party line, or as one dev said, "build a toilet in the living room if the boss tells you too" (or words to that effect).

A former community manager (greypawn) has said that he was mainly asked to manage the expectations of the players.  I guess by hiring a guy like Draakul, expectations are managed by default.  If this is the company representative, what hope is their for positive developments?  Not much imo.  Mission accomplished I guess; expectations are being managed, and he certainly seems to tow the party line.

Wait... you guys had me at Zombies in SWG.  Is that for reals? lol!!!!!

"I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Yes, they will be showing up over the course of  TWO future updates.  Their goal is release them around the time that the new book Death Troopers comes out, Oct. 27th.

Regardless of what Draakull's post said,  Officially, the reason for the initial ban was due to bypassing the language filter. Tux did this by typing out the word "**edit**"   Tux doesn't like to be filtered, so he edited himself.   Many players do this without so much as a warning, let alone a ban.   Other players posted this information on the forums and Tux used an alt account to actually try to calm some people down, and needed to explain his side of things to do this.  Tux's other account then received a forum ban for doing this.  This did not bother Tux, as at the begining of last week he was going camping with his children.

This is where alot of players issue with the handling of all of this comes in.   While Tux was camping & away from any computer the decision to remove him as Senator was made. There was no PM or email sent to Tux to imform him of the change or its reasoning.  Then the first announcement of the change on the forums came from the SOE lapdog Badgersmaker and not from one of the developers or community team as the announcement should have come from.

Since this happened, especially on the Flurry and GCW, SOE forums, There have been hundreds of posts deleted, dozens of threads locked and mostly later deleted, and many banned forum accounts.  There has never been an outcry of support for a single SWG player to match this.

Unless there is some sort of apology to Tux and the community, I am afraid I have lost many friends and guildmates to the cancel button.  Still trying to decide what to do myself.

What is SWG without SOE drama and underhanded tactics? Lame excuse from the CM, lame timing and lame way to go about it. But wait, all for what happens to be the most lame duck volunteer position ever made by any MMO company. Yeah, this is SOE's recipe for greatness. At least in terms of being labeled one of the worst companies that any mmo player can ever deal with.

As for the people leaving, good for them! Though how many can possibly be left?

This sounds so typical of how $OE handles things. It is interesting to note that it appears that BadgerSmaker, in opportunistic fashion, wants to take the senate seat.

I made a post with the vet trial account saying that Draakull is bad at his job, and I received a perma forum ban.

If I'm not mistaken, over the course of all the posts in the GCW, Flurry and GPD forums about Tux and/or Draakull all got locked/deleted and EVERYONE in those threads were banned, I'd say close to 50 users?

He lost his fanboy position for making posts such as this while a member of the dev cheerleader squad:

"Call it what it is SMILEY

And yeah OP...they have absolutely definitive plans to possibly commit to developing it later. But rest assured, they have already implemented some back end code that we'll never see, so it's all good right?

2010 is a joke IMO. I'll believe it after I see it...I'm afraid it'll be another raced out, deadline type delivery that misses on a bunch of KEY points/requests because they're "too time consuming", which has replaced the "we don't have the art team to deliver that" argument.

It would be nice to see something actually delivered, refined and perfected (ie. battle fields...especially since WE didn't ask for them)."

The best part of Badger's thread is where half the posters say they will quit the game if he gets appointed to the dev cheerleader squad again.

I would too, he's a strange being and he claimed to have wanted to remove himself from being a blue glowie status (why??), but there was contrary that SOE removed it from him.

I think the thread you speak of has been cleaned up. There are four pages with only the same few posters posting and going off topic. There is no doubt that Badger is controversial and is far too busy promoting his own ideas, pet projects and agenda to properly represent the desires and ideas of  players - ever. His last stint as a senator proved it.

Ever since the new 'Community Manager' was hired on, and had his quick mental breakdown, they have been diligently scrubbing the OBoards.

The 'senate' is not intended to represent the players to the dev team, they are there to convince the players that anything the devs do is great, and if they fail to do so, they are intended to take the blame.  That is why the dev team can toss in stupid crap like zombies and claim it was what the playerbase wanted.

The SOE producer of the game is a big time horror movie fan so he begged the folks at LEC to allow them to add zombies to the game after hearing about some asinine book that is coming out that has them in it.  Imagine what they might try to add to the game if anyone on the dev team was actually a fan of the Star Wars films...

Yep, it was definitely cleaned up. There is even a post on the first page saying "Who deleted my post saying I didn't think Badger would be good for the job?".

SOE never fails to entertain us. Unfortunately it is through their antics, and not through their games, that we get so much entertainment. If it was the other way around, they would be rolling in money right now.

Amusing alright, I get a perma ban for just saying "Draakull, you suck at your job" and I've seen people say and do worse than what I said and only get a slap on the wrist. Make any sense?
