I'm going to make a long-term, hard decision about a game based solely on it's price (which included shipping), what other people who haven't played it either say about it, what jaded trolls say about it, and generally nothing else. Not going to include any educated guess based on years and years of playing video games. Not going to include any factual knowledge about the game because I haven't played it. Nope, I'm just gonna rant for five pages about this and that feature being, instead, that OR this based purely off of speculation. Then I'll continue with another three pages about how it's far more expensive than most games. After that a brief interlude about how the studio is completely broke, because they said that pre-orders will help fund the developement. Of course that will also be based off of innuendo and speculation because I don't work there, nor do I know anyone who does. Then I'll continue on for another page about DF clone this or UO failed clone that, in the end not really making much sense. Certainly the entire thing will seem very convincing because I'll add capitalized words, the equivulent of yelling. And as everyone knows the louder you yell, the more right you are. Just to help my long-winded point that isn't actually a point based on anything solid I will degrade and insult anyone with valid points. Hopefully this will cause them to flame me, and I will then swoop in and think I've claimed victory.
I don't understand why everyone and their fucking mother is an expert on every game they've never played.Seems like this is the case with every not-yet released game in existence. It would be like claiming your a doctor because you saw a clip from an episod of House on youtube.
Gamers like everyone else have opinions and want there game to susceed, Im one of the ones who bought the box edition and will be charged another monthly fee before my start date of block E Sept. 14th and the renew date of i believe 9 Sept. I did ask in the forums what if the worst happens and the company goes belly up. Not alot of responces but the ones i did get said i SHOULD get my money back not would. So i would say its a crap shoot for now. Can be no worse than the promises made by Funcom before there release of AOC,
Excuse me but where the hell do you get the idea that you will be paying a monthly fee? A little bit of research goes a very long way and you don't come off looking like a fool that bought a game sight unseen with no idea about it at all.
Either that or you are a troll and just trying to subvert what went on with the pre-orders
From what I have heard, attention to detail is the best indicator of success and have heard great news on things they have implemented well that blows the compeition out of the water.
The only thing that could derail them is defamtory remarks by uninformed public who just want another clone so they can claim leet status in another lame game.
MO will not be one for the fodder, but only the loyal and most brave will see it to the end and that end will be glorious...
They do have lots of issues, but it seems its more like configuration problems, not coding and implementation...

As I've mentioned earlier, server stability isn't only their fault.
From things (you may call them leaks) I've seen, every day brings more fascinating things. Close combat seems to work almost perfectly. Only FOV, while wearing helmetsm, needs some improvements, but its just a matter of time.
It's about time people start to understand wtf MO is going to offer, and what does it mean to be game tester.
Still waiting for providing service for visa electron in online shop, and fixing VAT count up problems.

I'm not a fanbot but where are you getting the idea that they're strapped for cash?
Selling somewhat expensive pre-orders to raise enough cash to finish the game was my first clue.
Yea but where does it say they need money to finish the game? I'm not calling you a troll....oh wait yea I am. Provide a link or troll away
You can't really be that dense??
Blizzard or Bioware isn't gonna come out 6 months to a year before they launch a game to give out 10,000 preorders to get in beta for there games, they are going to finish there games and do internal beta's to you know actually fix problems.
It's obvious what they are doing, I'm not knocking them for it they are an indy company, they are doing what they have to do to try and complete the game.
Call me a troll if you want, I'm calling you blind.

The game is in early beta. Starvault needed a true sense of the community, to gauge what in store for them upon release. The pre-sale did add more money in the coffers, but that only allowed them to accelerate beta and pay for Bandwidth and actual hardware for beta.
The game is going as planned and if you've ready anything or seen some of the leaks, the game is incredible and dead-on with what StarVault has promised.
Oh look a Darkfall troll posting like a blind fanboi on the Mortal forums.
If you had really been reading the beta leaks, players are complaining about even the most basic functionality being broken or badly implemented, combat being really laggy, and lots of other things. The videos on youtube show a empty barren world with no content, no spells, no special attacks, nothing. There is much much more to a MMO than licensing a pretty 3d engine and making some terrain.
Darkfall actually had a really positive beta period. Mortal has had a bad beta (many beta players say alpha), is 6-12 months from release and devs have run out of money and ripping off their customer base with inflated preorders just to stay alive. There is no way to spin this situations as being good for Mortal. It's not good at all.
It is almost certain because of the money situation that they will be forced to release early with missing features and known bugs.

A "really positive" beta period?? ROFLMAO, been there done that and it was far from positive, hell according to the latest positive reviews the game just released in July so it has been in beta since "release".
I suppose Mortal will release early with missing features that the devs stated would not be in game at release unlike your favorite POS that released early promising on their website 99% of what WAS NOT in game and with the same bugs that had existed all thru beta.
Yep I see how Mortal is so much worse off then Dork-n-Fail.
So an interesting little poll for the mmorpg crowd at large. So far, StarVault (hearby SV) has had problems after problems, from websites crashing, to their preorder store site screwing up, billing screwing up, beta block status screwing up, the beta launch screwing up, the beta server being a mess (see non-nda twitter link for server related public posts: https://twitter.com/MortalBeta - and what the crap is this using twitter to communicate with your player base?!), their lack of beta forums and a beta irc channel that only 1/5th the player base can access?

Instead of releasing all the features together, they would turn a few on.. test them.. test them... turn them off... turn other(s) feature(s) on... test them... test... turn them off... and so on.
They said that BETA was going to be *non fun*, but for testing the game. Whoever decided to invest cash in the game at this point wouldnt be early playing the game, but they would be helping shapping it. By testing and feedback, they could help make the game they really want.
I didnt buy MO as I dont want to work on the beta. But 10.000 people want to do that. Or some (hopefuly most) of those 10.000. Now the leaks, trolls and whiners are probably a minority that want the game ready now, that didnt read this info (or just ignored it).

I think it will be a success for the developers but comparing it to the rest of the market I don't see it holding much. It isn't a 'big' franchise name like Final Fantasy, Star Wars, Warcraft, etc... First person MMO probably won't be to popular but of course any hardcore mmo player (like people that get on forums) will like it, that is a minority though.

Right, cause games like CS (or most fps) , Oblivion and Fallout 3 (rpgs) dont sell. Right? Its not like they are the ones that got numbers like 6million on sells (not counting the millions of illegal copies).
First person view just doesnt work. I dont know what this game designers are thinking! Really!

Lol looks like oblivion, I dont think so. I'm a gfx junkie and I'm telling you that video can not compare to Oblivion at max settings. MO online is definately better looking then Oblivion.
Also why do you care about looking at gear, if you want to play dress up go play barbie.

That doesn't change the fact that it still looks horrible compared to games coming out in 2010.
'Also' if you don't care about gear or character development why don't you go play halo like all the other lazy western gamers that are taking the 'rpg' out of 'mmorpg'. Go jump up and down in those first person worlds =P
Mediocre. Not because the developers aren't cool guys, or aren't honest, but because they are out of money and their game is not developed to a point where it could release and not bleed subs. It needs at least 1 year to release something that players will keep playing and slowly gain momentum ala EVE and not constantly bleed out like Darkfall.
I hope they can pull it off and stay afloat, but honestly it isn't looking good at all. Still, knowing all this i'm about to give them 50$+ because I like the guys and what they are trying to do.

Lol I already play halo. Why the grudge with first person? I play Oblivion in first person 100% of the time.
I frequently see peeps defend games with issues in beta....like the issue will go away before launch. One would expect this to be the case...I mean, isn't that what beta is for anyways?!
However, teh last few beta's I have been in, i really don't see a lot of changing going on....its like Beta's have become more of a PR blitz then a QA program. Unless something is drasticalyl broken...most features seemt o already be agreed upon.
Perhaps if developers were more open-mined during the beta process, games might fair better at launch. Obviously you cannot please everyone all the time. But I do remember a few times were it seemed the majority of posters in a beta forum were of a like mind of something and the devs refused to listen.
Sorry, sort of a tangent. I think this game could do well if its truely unique. Using teh UT3 engine for an MMORPG is a major plus, as it is a beautiful AND stable engine. So its really down tto the gameplay. Here's hoping.

Really!

I would hardly call them game 'designers' since they just ripped off oblivion
This game will fail, it already looks out of date....

Looks just like oblivion.... the graphics look like something that was released in 06-07, I mean really... an MMO where you can't even see the gear you earn...

Lol looks like oblivion, I dont think so. I'm a gfx junkie and I'm telling you that video can not compare to Oblivion at max settings. MO online is definately better looking then Oblivion.
Also why do you care about looking at gear, if you want to play dress up go play barbie.

Here trolls, have a cookie. Better now? Good!
Well thank you for all the LoL time. Talking about missing features from a beta that is turning them in parts is just hillarious!
And Thank you for the Oblivion Clone post. Much better than the 100000 WoW clone posts.
Another cookie!

You're right. MO is making Darkfall & Aventurine look like Blizzard with their dodginess.
