Hey I was once a kid myself. I have nothing against kids playing any game. It's the immature butt heads I am talking about. Once again go back and re read my posts. I referenced a (mental) 14 year old. In physical age that (mental) 14 year old could be 65 and a peed off old codger. In my SWG guild we had people who were 15 to 60. As a matter of fact we booted one guy who was in his mid 30's for acting like a immature jerk. Age has little to do with maturity.
Anyway I am going to test EQII on 2 systems. One a 1.7 gig P4, with 512 ram and a ti4200 card the other with a 3.2 P4 with HT and a 800 FSB, 1 gig (by next week 2 gigs) of 3200 DDR ram and a 9800 pro 256 card. So if runs on the wifes box I am pretty sure that it will run on anything most teenagers use or any young adult can afford. WHAT? Im sorry, but that is the most incorrect thing i have heard when it comes to the system requirments. I suggest you get in your mind that the average houshold computer today will be able to handle EQ2... Ill say it once and Ill a million times again, JUST BECAUSE EQ2 HAS POWERFULL SETTINGS DOESNT MEAN YOU CANT USE THE LOW SETTINGS!
And watch the term yongsters, your 14 dude. You are in the same boat as these kids you talk about. Not to offend but that age still fits in that catigory IMO.
I am just trying to say that, i have an slightly above average computer and it handles the medeum settings on EQ2 just fine, which should show that a average computer can hande the lowest settings. And it is still in beta and they are still working on making the game more stable.
The factor that determine the comunity of a game is not the cost of the system needed to play it, it is what the person is more familiar with. Of coarse Blizzard fans will play WoW, they have been playing that type of style for a long time, and it just so happens that a lot of those players are younger than the old farts who played EQ live back 5 years ago.
Most "kids" in MMO's are actually adults, if you base what you see on maturity levels. I've played MMO's for a long time, and the most immature people are adults by far. Moreover, most kids aren't into MMO's because MMO's take TIME, and doesn't always give instant gratification. While WoW is faster paced then other MMO's, it still takes time. If you been to the battle.net forums lately, most of the kids are all saying they are going to guild wars because A.) IT is free B.) It is more action oriented like Diablo. Some will play WoW for warcrafts sake, but the patience and social ability necessary to succeed and have fun in an MMO will escape most kids who do not have a "patience maturity" as I call it.
If your worried about the leet kids, I'd avoid Guild Wars more then anything. EQ 2 and WoW will be fine. The WoW community in beta is very mature, even in the stress test. Morever over for you PvP heads, you can't talk to the opposing side and have them understand you, so even if some kids play and decide to "roxorz joor boxorz", it will be like "adalda leli gugarik." So it won't ever annoy you, but it will annoy their own team. Also on those servers, you can't be both factions, so no alternate loading to /tell harrass you either. I'm not sure how EQ 2 does its good vs evil communication, but it shouldn't be bad even if you can understand each other, plus its PvE, which actually detract from some of the younger crowd.
All in all, what matters in the game is who you constantly group with ie your guild, because that is your true MMO community.

Originally posted by Coldmeat I'm just curious as to Rhoklaws motivation to reply to all these threads that present EQ2 in a negative light? What's the story here? If they distress you so much, why are you reading them, let alone replying? And regardless of the origin of this need, calling people raving lunatics, and labeling them all WoW fans, while it might provide some entertainment, and possibly make you feel better, does nothing to bolster your side of the arguement, particularly if the person in question made a post that was more than just EQ2 sux!!!! I like pie!
My opinion is that Rhoklaws is none of the above.
He is a player and EQ2 is allowing to reach ''uberness'' better then any other game because it is really build around his precise gameplay style, or so he think. Add a complete lack of self estime and he defend it to the death! RaR!
And if you doubt my theory, start trashing CoH and behold my answers!
Personnally I think EQ2 and WoW lack because they tried to say solo and grouping will be great in their game while if you dont raid you wont be better then a second class character at best(as far as solo and group uberness are concerned)!
Back to the main topic: SoE attitude is that: ''Talk ill about EQ2, talk good about EQ2, we dont care, talk about it, we have the graphics to sway them in if they just glaze upon our game!''. Or ''SoE'' they think.
PS: War of MMORPGs is silly, you realize that my favorite MMORPG would prolly never have been created if they didnt see the success of old EQ with all it lacking issues? And so the wheel goes, so your best MMORPG ever will depend on the success of all competitors, if EQ2 and WoW are succesfull, I will be happy, they will bring more developpement in the competition in the same lead, I wont help them in any form althought, they dont answer my solo or my grouping needs in any form. Someone that even suggest EQ2 will have the start of WoW have no idea about the Blizzard train, it is BLIZZARD! It is not MS, it is not Sony, it is not General Motors, it is BLIZZARD! I wont play either, but I aint blind, Blizzard train is massive, I dont think they can handle it althought, EQ2 pull much more reasonnably, but that dont mean they can handle it either. Will kids play WoW that much? No idea, 30ish+ folks will, massively! You see when DOOM3 come out what happen? This is but a fraction of what is going to happen!
PPS: Everyone 30+ with a computer have played diablo or warcraft...they know Blizzard, all of them. Wife/husband want to please sweet half for X-Mas, they see the old Diablo Box or warcraft box and that their sweety half like it, they themselves have no idea about gaming and dont really care, they see all the pub that Blizzard is doing and comparing to BOTH diablo and warcraft, guess what they buy for X-mas assuming sweety half didnt buy it for any reason? Same sweety half will not do that with EQ2, because if EQ visible, EQ2 will be already buyed, she/he cant play it casually more or less interested, EQ2 dont benefit from such a wide massive outside support, Blizzard is to MMORPG what Star Wars is to movie, on release day of Star Wars 3, it will be massively camped, more then any other movie, keeping this for a long time is another matter althought. I dont say WoW is better then EQ2 or will succeed more, but if you want a copy of WoW and you didnt pre-order, good luck, the gaming stores are way underestimating that incoming train, they have no idea. If there is more WoW sells then active subscribers to all current combined MMORPGs in the first month, I will NOT be surprised, I expect it. How many Americans have a computer? Make a small % of that number, dont check at active subscribers in the MMORPGs industry, their main drawing is not from active MMORPGs players, althought many will come happily. WoW is helping themselves first, but also all competitors, it widespread the market and the genre. Many ongoing ''pirates'' will have no choice to either buy or pass, and I am not ready to say they will all choose to pass on WoW. Someone will not try EQ2 because they own a radio builded by Sony!
- "Solo is, will always be, the main market. A MMORPG that succeed with little or no solo appeal is doing great considering they are ignoring the main player base.''

I wasn't saying kids can afford that stuff. Im saying they dont need to buy it all in the first place... you make it seem like the reasons more kids play is because they can't buy a better computer. The average computer will be able to handle EQ2 just fine, you just need to tweak the settings. The thought of kids playing WoW because they cant afford a good computer is not somthing they need to worry about. When i was i young i never looked at the system requirments.
I have a inten cerleron 3.5 ghz 1 gig ddr 2700 ram geforce 4 mx 440 64 mb
This is why I am going to buy a new computer. If I wanted to upgrade my curent system I would have to buy a new video card, and then my CPU would hold back a 6800 gt heavily, so if I replaced my processor then I would also have to replace the motherboard, once replacing that I would have to upgrade my memory to 1 gig of 3200 ram. After doing all this I would have to replace my power supply, also I would have to buy a new CPU fan and a new case, becuase my HP fan is drilled into the case because HP wants to make sure you go buy a new computer intstead of upgrade your current one. All I would have left from the original computer would be the optical drives and the hard drives. Im just going to buy a new computer and buy 2 80 gb HD's and hook those up with RAID.
Most of my friends have almost the same computers. I dont know too many people with computers that could even "run" everquest 2. Not just on low settings.

I worked at HP as a tech until they shut down the plant here. You should be able to get the fan off, god knows I replaced enough of the piles of junk.
As for the ram, you be better off keeping the gig you have now, and getting another gig of 2700. I have 2 gigs of pc 2700 and it works just fine. And I don't think you'd see any difference between 1 gig of 2700 vs 1 gig of 3200 as you would with 2 gigs. Some opinions may differ, but with a 2.8 p4, the 2 gigs of ram, and a geforce fx 5900 SL 128mbit with a 80 gig HD it runs just peachy. I suppose it all depends on whether you plan on staying on the bleeding edge of things, or not. That and how much money you have, or are willing to spend.

Dude if you have a 3.5gig processor and a gig of ram all you need is a 128bit video card which you can get cheap if you search, you would be able to run EQ2 on almost max settings

Shame no one found that link, aside from you saying you have six friends that play MMOGs and are teenagers.
Yep, teenagers play MMOGs. Nothing new there. Unfortunately that doesn't prove that there are more teens in one game over another.

Where do you live in? I donnt know alot of kids that can spend 250 bucks on upgrades. Most kids seem to be using the old MX cards, or the integraded one that the computer comes with. Im sry but im 14, I know what im talking about. Also I was supporting kids in mmorpgs. I wasnt critisizing them. Also as youngsters I mean the 11-12 year olds that just learn about mmorpgs.

I have a
inten cerleron 3.5 ghz
1 gig ddr 2700 ram
geforce 4 mx 440 64 mb
