Well i'm a player that personatly rarely subscribe to monthly p2p games, the most i paid for one game was a sum of 3 months and it was spread over some years, DDO was an example of accessibility because i think their new way of offering it is very user-friendly, i don't really care what is the reason behind.
Well TheStarheart, what if i don't want to pay for others? I would much prefer to pay my own amount of money in micros than to pay as if i would pay the government, which is equal for everyone, that you profit from it or not. It all depends on how much wisdom you put into micro, some people have very little retain, such as in real life some people buy stuff they don't need at the cost of ruining their wallets, i don't want to have to pay for the people who lack the judgment to save up their money properly. A good plan fitting for both choices is the new system the game DDO is offering, they offer both item-mall and monthly option, so for those who prefer micro, they can go micro, for those who prefer monthly, they can go monthly, and if you prefer none, you can be none. Accessibility offers great gateways for the gaming community, i believe that a company who doesn't offer accessibility is old-fashioned in their way of thinking.
Micro-transactions are for more casual people who want to buy their way through items without spending the time in-game to get them.
The people who put serious time into gaming would prefer it the other way, where we get the items first because we put the time and effort into the game instead of using our money to get it.
I fall into the latter group who prefer subs. You prefer MT's. We disagree. I only provided why we don't like MT's, you can't force your model on us, we will refuse to play.
But in the case i described you have all the alternatives, how can you refuse that? You got yer monthly option if you want it, so take it if you prefer it over micro or free.
It's not just "free to download", they give you a good portion of contents to play without charging you, to refuse such a thing is fairly weird to me because they offer you to play without forcing you to pay.
Yes micro can be used to buy their way thrut he game, lots of players do that, and like i said, i'm not exacly responsible of how little retain some players have, i only buy what's nessecary for me, and no it's not a big deal because not only its one time payments but it's also having the option for you to get them just by playing, no matter how slow it may be.
I believe criticizing such a system is asking for extreme luxury, i deem it as fair.
But in the case i described you have all the alternatives, how can you refuse that? You got yer monthly option if you want it, so take it if you prefer it over micro or free.
What if we don't want items handed to us? I don't want to have unlimited access to items because I pay a subscription, I also don't want some items because I decided to pay for them. I'd rather do quests, raid dungeons, and earn my loot with everyone else doing the same thing.
This depends how the item mall is implemented, some only sell cosmetic items, some sell a bit of both and some sell stuff you'll never acquire in game that will be stronger than you will ever find, i think the 2 first options are largely reasonnable, while i have to agree that the 3rd option is completly ridiculous.
You can't just refuse everything that is offered to you, you'll end up playing purely free games, and we all know what purely free ends up giving you.

The point was a subscription game solves that issue.
But then i can just come back on my first argument that nullify this issue, you're looping it.
OMFG it's not nullified we just disagree on acceptable payment models. The subs work for the way I want to play, micro-transactions work for you. In this case, they can have mutually exclusive types of players. So DENSE.
No it's you that see it in black & white, the system offer free, micro and subscription models, the 3 of them, all in the same game, you have the CHOICE to pick whichever you LIKE, i'm not dense, i'm trying to point out that you got a heap of freedom in this system and you are spitting on it.

You don't understand that people don't want to play in a game where others can buy the items they earn. That's the problem. There are many people who want no cash shop for items. You can't accept that.
If you prefer the F2P model good for you, more power to you. A large portion of players do not like f2p, for various reasons. Those reasons really boil down to 2 reasons 1) game quality 2) level playing field. I played RoM it sucks that a dude can drop 1500$ in a cash shop and whip my ass up and down the map. Rightfully he should be able to since he spent that kind of cash but I think thats bogus that a player can AND WILL do that.
FFXIV will be P2P. So why are you here pushing your ideals on us? If you dont like it well your loss. You should take your cursade elsewhere. All of us has tried F2p and P2P games so in the majority of cases it is black and white. Either people like f2p or they dont

That's because you are talking about cash shops that sells the 3rd option that i mentionned in a previous post, which is selling overwhelmingly strong or nessecary stuff, theres 3 levels of cash shop, purely cosmetic, hybrid, and this option, which i also loath, just like you folks, and i'm not crusading, you can't just see people that agree on this post, the variety of opinions is what builds innovation, if we would all think the same thing, the world would not advance. I think the implementation of freedom of choice is very important, if freedom is not encouraged they will remove your rights. And beside, you talk as if you didn't have the 3 options, again, you have the 3 choices in your hands, the monthly subscription give anything the cash shop has to offer to you plus some perks, and for those that like the cash shops, hybrids dont offer overpowered items, they are very basic items that you can usually find easily in the game, minus the cosmetic stuff.

A lot of people do not like options when it comes to this. A lot of people prefer 1 flat monthly fee and have access to all game content. Simple huh?
Lets look at it from the devs point of view. It will be hard for them to make money from people if the Cash shop doesnt sell the "real goodies" that most cash shops sell. Thus youll buy like access to zones, characters classes, cosmetic junk, etc and not need to buy anything else. Now maybe if your access to a zone was limited by time it might help. For the most part your just wanting to penny pinch and steal fun. I honestly dont think you thought this all the way through especially from the devs side. they dont make charity games.
I dont think your going to change even 1 persons veiw on this.

WE DONT WANT ANY CASH SHOPS
There's the option we want. Just a subscription. No cash shops. Only getting items by working hard in the game. Please try to understand this.

It also has nothing to do with black and white or shades of gray. Some people have fun in the achievement of getting items that everyone has access to, in game, and can only get with skill, not with a their bank account. Whether it's the patience of grinding to the top, or waiting out for that one mob to spawn that might drop it, or it's the difficulty in defeating that super difficult boss, some people just prefer the Pay to Play model because then no one can buy the item. Even in games that offer choice as to subscription or microtransactions, other people are able to purchase things off the item mall that NEGATES the TIME spent playing.

I think as far as FFXIV goes P2P is the better model. We're just discussing how the other options can work too. Not sure why everyone's getting all bent out of shape over people with different viewpoints, but oh well.
The biggest problem I have with P2P is the up-front cost and cost of expansions. I got burned pretty bad on Warhammer, for instance. Paid the $50 up-front money... paid for an additional two months (hoping my initial $50 investment would pay off)... so $80 later I'm feeling ripped off. It was definitely not even worth half of that.
If MMORPG games allowed you to download the game for free and just pay for the account ( $10-$15 monthly subscription) I think that would be my ideal model. You get to try the game for almost nothing to see if it's something you like, and you don't have people buying their way to ub3rness.
There is no such thing as "free to play". "micro-transactions" are just a new way for companies to get paid(more). When you've given up trying to make a good product you think up some scheme to make money with the crap you already have. It's like a garage sale.
Free to play doesn't mean the company is a charity organization. It just means you don't have to pay anything to download/install the client and make an account to play. If you can't resist the item mall, then that's another thing, but it doesn't mean a F2P game isn't "free to play". Of course they intend to make money off of the product, you act like it's a scam or something for them to do so.
F2P games are a scam. Pure and Simple.
These games are wholy designed from the ground up to push and lure people to the Item Malls and spend money.
It's very sophisticated done. The first levels it's all easy. You have fun. You get rewards. Nice stuff.
So you get addicted. And then boom! It's like you hit a brick wall. And then the true nature of the beast comes out and reveils itself.
People still believing that F2P games are trully free 2 play are either utterly naive and blind or never played one of them long enough to see it's true nature.

That's not true at all, at least in the F2P games I've played. I know several people in RoM, for instance, who are at level cap and haven't spent a dime. Numerous others I know have spent less than $20 (just enough to buy a mount). Again, they aren't making the game to be a charity organization. Of course they want to make as much money as they can (don't all businesses?) and they make the item mall appealing to people so they make a profit. I'm not sure how you come to the conclusion that's a scam. Addictive, yes, but a scam? Between myself, my wife, and our 3 kids, we've spent about $100 on RoM over an 8 month period... that breaks down to $20 per person for 8 months of gameplay (so $2.50 per person per month). If we were all to play a P2P game, our household cost would be closer to $775 ($50 per box and $15 per month after the 1st month). How is that at all a scam?

RoM must be a trully exception, as most of the Asian F2P games pretty much force you into their item malls. Or at a given moment you won't be able to play the game anymore. Simple as that.
That's why I have grown to hate F2P MMO's and their item malls.
Not to mention that when they have PVP it will get even worse. As it's the people with the biggest wallets that run around with the best of the best gear litterly obliterating everyone else. Just fueling the need for people to use the Item Mall.
In most PVE oriented Asian F2P games it's so set up, that when you get close to the cap you can't participate in most of the group content unless you buy the required potions from the item mall. And sometimes even required gear! And you don't want to know how fast it goes with those potions. People spend easily between 50 and 100 dollars a month on potions alone in some of those F2P games!!
If RoM isn't like that at all. Not even at the endgame. Than I am trully suprised and it would be the first F2P game in wich it isnt the case. But I hardly doubt it.

This is the type of company, and game, that I will gladly support and feel comfortable with the idea that I could play the game for years to come.
