My pet peeve is Anime !!!

I can not tolerate the way the characters look.  Every time I see one I want to grab a pair of shears and give them a haircut.

I will not play any game that has anime.  I would rather have a cystogram than play a MMO that has anime.

BTW I have had a cystogram and they are not fun.

Games like LOTRO, WAR,etc, that make a meta-game out of it just makes it worse.

MOBS such as rats bats etc should drop the resource they are made from i.e. fur, meat, teeth, claw and so on which can then be used in crafting professions.
The ONLY MOBS that should drop coins, runes, swords, armor, guns etc should be Humanoid in nature. And whatever you see the Humanoid wearing/weilding should be what is dropped.

You'd like FFXI on that account. Sure enough, only beastmen (humanoid monsters) drop cash (and not much of it). Fur, meat, teeth, claws and so on is most of what you get; you'll sell it on the auction house to crafters who need it (or use it yourself--turning hare meat into grilled hare is cheap and easy; you don't need any cooking skill to have a good shot at doing it successfully. And it's a nice food for a lower-level meleer.) Some creatures do drop finished items, but it at least has some relationship to the monster (one heavily-camped named monster drops highly prized boots--they're lizard leather boots, and it's a lizard).

    Wouldn't those be called "feet"?

The root cause is actually RMT. The game designers are afraid that if they don't make a valuable item bind on pickup, it will be camped 24/7 by the gold farmers and the only way a regular player will ever get one is by paying cash to the farmers.

LOL this is a faulty idea, because this does nothing to hinder 3rd party RMT, no the farmers just sell fully loaded accounts instead.  It has been proven completely ineffective,  therefore unecessary.

The only proven methods to stop  3rd party RMT is  for developers to compete head on with the farmers by selling in game gold from their site. This is going to be something everygame will have to deal with in the very near future due to the push for legislation on taxaing players for all virtual goods and this includes all in game items.

The reason for BoP is to require players to repeat content MANY times to get the rare drops, which greatly reduces the rate at which devs have to create new content.

I expect my Avatars actions to correspond with what I am actually doing. Thats my biggest pet peeve. Not talking about lag issues, they happen. But I've played games where the sync is well out of wack and it drives me nuts. Worst still are games where there is no distinct combat animations, just an auto-attack like repeted movement reguardless of what attacks you make. Ugh.

I would have to agree on synchronisation.  Add sound as well as animations to out of synch gameplay.

I good client will give the illusion of synchronisation and the illusion of an immediate response to your mouse click or keyboard command regardless of whether your internet latency is low or high.

Mine has to be the huge overburdening amount of emphasis on gear progression. I know it's a staple for RPGs in general, but is that all players care about these days? It seems that way to me sometimes.

Also, lifetime or monthly subscription fees. I can't think of one MMORPG out there that actually deserves a monthly subscription fee. They are all the same. The only reason they charge monthly sub fees is because the player-base expects good games to charge them. Problem is, none of them are good enough (in my opinion) to be worthy to charge players to play. Not with so many great single player and multiplayer games out there that are free to play once you buy the game.

Last but not least, Preorders, Beta Testing, and Head Start gimmicks. Nothing says "hey, just do whatever you want, because you already have our money" like preorder sales. Beta Testing and Head Start are just sales gimmicks, but they also cause unfair advantages to players who do get to participate in those. I know, it's nice to feel special. And it's illogical for games to develop with out beta testers, but still... I hate them.

Sorry to nitpick, but if a game isn't Multiplayer Online, you aren't going to get any PvP. From what I gathered from the rest of your post, you don't care about the RPG elements. Not the MMO aspects.

Yea whatever you wanna call it.  If it were up to me I'd just have a lobby like an FPS and join arena style servers, objective based to team death match as long as it has the in depth rpg style of combat, if that's still an MMO then I guess so.

For example, for years, players were having fits about Guild Wars because they could not change their character appearances (NCSoft eventually had to implement a system). I have friends who have left games because of the music or a metaverse plot twist.

Personally, I find that I end up leaving games on which I can't get one of my three or four "stock" character names. Just doesn't feel like my toon.

What's the most illogical reason that you've quit or decided not to buy an MMO?

I won't by SW:ToR because they decided that all classes should be able to stand toe to toe, so ya a droid maker or a smuggler will be able to defeat a Jedi. I don't play stupid games.

Instancing bothers me, I don't care about a game that has some instanced dungeons but the main landscape has to be open and uninstanced. That includes leaving a town and going back into it, although no loading screen, puts you in a different shard. No thanks.

Everyone looks the same, hate it. Let people customize more and don't make the 1 uber armor set everyone has to wear to be good. Allow everyone to look vastly different in both character creation and outfitting. There's thousands of people per server, there shouldn't only be a dozen options.

PvP sucks. That's why I left WAR, well that and the whole game sucked. But if you're going to have PvP do it right and don't randomly "rebalance" all the classes every few weeks making the character someone built now completly useless. It's the quickest way to drive off customers, isn't that right WAR?

Seeing bots everywhere, I played lineage 2 for a bit but when all the hunting areas were covered with bots and nothing was done about it, I couldn't stand playing and have never gone back. Seeing people bot, or actually seeing lots of people buying/selling gold is about the biggest turn off there can be in a game.

Changing game systems. UO, SWG, when a game changes how the game plays it doesn't make sense. And it makes me quit.

Probably my number 1, and why I don't really play any new MMOs, is being able to max out your character in 3 weeks. If I can max out that fast, as soon as I do max out I quit and never go back. I want a game with substance, not a game I can beat in less then a month and then sit around bored. That's what single player games are for.

I could probably come up with more but that's the gist of it.

    Somebody asked about run speed.

In the old AC you had a stat that when you put it up it made you run faster, so Asherons Call may be the game for you. :)

  • beeker255beeker255 Member UncommonPosts: 351

I also thought it was cool in Anarchyonline you had runspeed skill which when you got high level you could could haul arse even without the run buffs...it was always the first thing I noticed when I started a new char how slow I was. Also the higher your agility the higher you jumped so when you reached 220 you could haul arse and jump over alot of signs even some buildings lol :)

Exactly.  That's why the second I made a new character, I always went looking for a yalm, I couldn't stand moving that slow.  Even when I had a high runspeed, I still wanted more and even the fastest yalms were never fast enough, especially when I was moving over the same old, tired terrain that I had seen a million times before.  It's not the journey in MMOs that I care about, but the destination, at least in the playing of the game.  Having to run for a half-hour to get somewhere and do something that takes 10 minutes, then a half-hour back is just stupid.

Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more
Relatively Recently (Re)Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA; AC, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR, Portal 1&2, Blink, Elder Scrolls (all), lots more
    Now Playing: None

Yes in AC you can increase run speed and jump skill allowing you to run extremely fast and jump higher then buildings. It is very fun. Because of this they even have different jump puzzles in the game.  http://trial.ac.turbine.com/

“They really should implement weight in MMOs affecting speed, stamina, falling damage...I know it's very advanced and maybe computers can't handle that now.Oh wait.. EQ had this in 1999!!!!!!!! FFS”

This reminded me of another pet peeve, all MMO’s care about today are the pretty colours. Get the graphics right and you are ensured a fan club, MMO website and magazine attention. The combat, crafting, PvP, etc can be awful, but you did paint some pretty colours!

What do you expect, all anyone cares about these days is eye-candy.  It might play like crap but ooh, look how pretty it is!
