The Xfire stats of around 250K players max in open Beta seems to confirm this official number.
XFire is completely clueless about OB numbers, in fact, if someone was playing the European client of Aion, XFire couldnt even detect it and count towards a total number, check it
As are the 12 EU/ 12 NA servers which can be found on the Aion website.
That simply means Aion has only 50 to 60% of the players both AoC and WAR had at the pre launch period. (500K each).
This is a great policy, its better to open servers as soon as theu are needed than completely divide the population is small numbers around 40 servers.
So the number of WOW players interested in Aion is far less than for both War and AoC.
That also shows on the number of posts of Aion trolls on the official WOW forums btw. The 60% market share of WOW also stands as proof against the 54% of  last year ... So GL.
The OP has been haunting and screwing  WOW on our WOW forums for months now. Making OP threads to spew the bitter hate for his ex-love. Silly.
So I am glad he's gone for good.
I am baffled what he would like to find in Aion though as about a thousand WOW features are lacking in the Korean copycat.
Until he has his first boss fight in Aion of course.... to be sure ... I will notify Blizzard they block his IP adresses on leaving so I will be sure he will not come back anyway.
    :))))

As the blind wow fanboy that we all know =) you keep inventing stuff you dont know about by using completely unrealistic numbers. I am sure that you know that this game's OB was in fact limited to some sites distributing keys and the already said pre-sales.
So, how the hell can you know the number of ppl that may be interested in this game but simply had no chance to get a key or havent managed to buy the game yet?
You have become over the last months and weeks a ferocious attacker to Aion and everything about it, simply because you sense that wow is going to loose many ppl to it, and this you can already tell, like many other ppl can, by checking their servers. Mine already lost many ppl and i know for sure that some major guilds on my server are migrating to Aion, and didnt participated on the OB.

So get over it man, nothing you can do or make will erase this reality. Aion is here to stay, and no stupid arguments or misread numbers about limited OB's will change this.

Man those figures come directly from the Aion website.

12 servers for EU and 12 servers for NA. 300K players in OPEN Beta with free to give away keys flying everywhere on the web.

Even AD&D had more players in ... 2 days time than Aion open Beta.

Get over it : War and AoC had 500 K 3 days before launch on their servers.

What will you do ? Kill yourself if Aion will show less than 500 players.

At least everyone will know now those 3.5 M were the biggest lie in the internet. That's the reverse side of the coin.

Now everyone will SEE the number of players and servers from ... day one. Enough catch and hide behind uncontrollable free internet café's.

Publishing time is there and NOW in the next 3 months we will se this wow killer feeded by the WOW hating trolls.

Just like this OP started it. BTW people, meet Wow haing troll number 3. They are all assembled now :)))

    TY Xfire.

    Be my guest.

Aion will have a healthy population its gonna grow in the west not start off with a huge population like WAR and AoC. And xfire is far from a good source for a games true population it only shows if its gaining or declining not the real number.

As interesting as I thought Aion would be to my circle of friends/family: my wife; 8 guys/gals I know in Tenn.; 7 guys here in Illinois. And 2 in-game friends (a couple) that have been in and out of a casual guild I created back on Nov of 04, I can confidently say none of them are even remotely interested in Aion. And those are the ones I can actually swear on. Out of those 18 people, 6 are playing WoW because of direct influence from me (my wife+ 5 friends, 1 guy I worked with that I found out plays doesn't count).

One friend from Tenn. is part of a trio of us that use to hop from game to game together (we all played UO, AC, PSO, FFXI, E&B, SWG and LoTRO together). He has heard of Aion, but has no desire to try it. He and my third friend (the last of our trio) from Tenn. are direct reasons why 6 (4 of their co-workers, a wife of a co-worker and a girlfriend) people there play.

And out of those 18 people I can say 14 still play actively to this day. This is excluding the raiding guild I once belonged to. I cannot vouch for any of those guys but I can say that they still actively raid in WoW via reports from my wife (she still plays). So I will be heading to Aion solo as of now. It should fill in nicely until the CATA x-pac comes out. After I'm through running that into the dirt, maybe I'll give Aion a second round.

Well, news flash for those thinking about trying Aion. Aion just been considered, the best new MMO (unreleased) of PAX 2009, competing againf WOW: Cataclysm,

I bet Zorndorf will say that those gaming professionals that chose are all idiots and bought by ncsoft =P

Any X-Fire numbers to back that up or are you just trolling?  ;)

i think the most important statement is simply this....   Those who enjoy aion will play and those who don't enjoy aion will not play.   Personally the numbers mean nothing to me, I don't care how many servers or how many subs a game has.   Hell i don't care if this game is a WoW killer or not.  So let me ask   ,    Why do people need to say one game is better than another?  It's all just opinion.    Can we get back to the topic of who is gonna try aion that has played wow

P.S  i would have quoted the posts above thisone but i don't believe in quote spamming.

What's more interesting is that none of my friends who never liked WoW have any interest in Aion.  I don't know anyone who is going from EVE to Aion or from AO to Aion or from UO to Aion. I do know a few who are going from WAR or AoC to Aion, but those are all former WoW players.

That makes sense. Those who like WOW should like Aion as the gameplay is very similar. Those who do not like WOW will not like Aion due to the similarities.

I hate WoW but it is not because of the game itself, the game was actually quite fun.  The community is the worst I have ever seen and to my horror that same community was in Aion for the open beta so hopefully they will slag off once they have to pay.

I played WoW since Beta and just got burned out with all of the adjustments of the classes over time. The game stopped being fun.  I really enjoyed DAoC and having played CB and OB with Aion, I find it as enjoyable as DAoC. Goodbye WoW!

About half of my friends who still play Wow are trying out Aion, the odd thing is that it is the most fanatic group this time, not the bungee players that jump out and in Wow all the time.

But if they will stay or not is of course anybodys guess.

First, I prefer quality over quantity. I give a shit about how many subscription numbers WoW has. I know many, many players ingame who do not think that WoW is a good game. Mediocre at best. They only still play WoW because of their friends and because of the time invested. And many of them are afraid of another let-down after trying out WAR or AoC. And can you blame them? On top of this Aion doesn't bring that much new to the table. Is it really worth to switch? Maybe it is just too early to tell. Players have become careful, which is a good thing imho. Better grow slowly and steadily than dropping like a rock like Warhammer did. Personally I play EvE because of its complexity, depth and community. And for fast action I prefer to play FPS games anyway. Therefore I am looking forward to Global Agenda Online. Yes, it might not be a MMO. You know what? I don't care as long as it is a good "game". Just my 2c.

Only know of myself.  Whether i stay in Aion or not is another question.  I like what ive seen so far, but regardless I think im done with WoW.  It became less a game and more a job that i had to schedual.

Well, in wow you can always play on a pve server and be free of pvp, and no, you cant change channel in aion simply because after lvl 20 there is no channels anymore.

But its good, I think it will keep some of the cowards and carebears at bay and filter a bit more the community of leet kids that like to play just to show the fat lootz

I agree.  Just because McDonald's sells more hamburgers than any other chain doesn't mean I'm going to eat there, or get into long conversations about whether Burger King is better than McDonald's.

I've played WoW since release and just loved Vanilla.  The game as it stands today is McWoW, watered down and slightly ridiculous.

I liked my short time with Aion and it's fun being in at the start of a big new MMO, just like it was many years ago with the release of WoW.

I personally don't know anyone who is not switching to Aion that currently plays WoW, but most of my friends quit WoW ages ago so they aren't switching, they're just starting to play an MMO again.  When I start playing I will be competing against the other players playing Aion.  I won't be competing with WoW and I won't be worried about what, if anything, happens to WoW.

My worst nightmare is that Aion will be popular and pull too many people away from WoW.  I'll take the old Vanilla players, but please spare us the people who were brought to WoW for level 20 mounts, RAF and Deathnights.

edit: I don't dislike WoW, it kept me completely entertained for 2 years before TBC came out.  It's just really, really old now and for me it's time to move on.

Hello everyone! This is going to be my first post here on MMORPG.com and I would like to get the opportunity to tell you guys what my onest opinion is on the matter of  World Of Warcraft  players leaving the game for Aion or at least giving it a try:

In the years I've played around in the Warcraft universe , through the Tides of Darkness and into the Reign of Chaos and ultimately deeper into The World of Warcraft ,I can tell you there was nothing more immersive than this story. Aion has a very nice concept and storyline, but the game itself is nothing new and appealing to me.

I honestly haven't seen any of my in game friends / IRL friends that play or have played World of Warcraft wanting to switch to Aion, because its "Boring" (From what i've seen) simply put. I cannot tell you my honest opinion though, untill I actually play the game or get my hands on a free trial. From my observations this game is just another "Korean mmorpg" with no Immersive quality.

Cowards and carebears?  As someone who has worked as a jailer for a number of years i can honestly say that these video game, pvp killers are a joke if they think killing someone in a video game means anything.   I also have a son in the military and have played with others in the military as well. Ask those boys about killing. You video game tough guys are pathetic. Someone who likes to play PVE is a coward? I think ganking someone in a video game is an act of cowardice in itself. Get over yourself in your fantasy world.

I'll spare you the drudgery of politeness next time.

"TL;DR" for you Aion is a badly MMORPG Hybrid between WOW and Guild Wars.

Is this Zorndorf, a troll? ;p

Anyways on topic.  I asked some friends and they told me if World of Warcraft starts loosing subscribers and stuff for other games such as Aion there is always Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 coming up.

And we all know how awesome Diablo 2 was ;). Diehard Necro lancers  . Ohh you! XD

What does Diablo 3 and Starcraft have anything to do with MMORPG's?  Ah yes Zorndorf, like a good Blizzard  fanboy you only say that ppl are allowed or want to play Blizzard games.

PS: doing alt accounts to go unnoticed is so sad, LOL, a guy with your age should know better =P
