Any game that requires me to wait for 3+ hours alongside 3000+ other people is pretty fail to me.
Answer = more servers.
They will only turn into ghost towns if the game sucks and people leave. Its not just a few hundred people waiting, its THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS. Being barred entry for hours and hours is worse than getting in and being disconnected if you can get back in right away.

And since approx half of the preorders, even for a successful game, historically don't convert to or continue as subscriptions after the first month or so, what is your plan for the managing the low pops and the dead servers? Or haven't you thought that far ahead?

Any game that requires me to wait for 3+ hours alongside 3000+ other people is pretty fail to me. Pick a server with a smaller queue, I picked one in the 1000's and got in within 10 mins
Answer = more servers. It's been only 2 hours, more than likely they will add more, but 2 hours into headstart would be acting far to hastily. More servers by official release would be acceptable.

Been playing for roughly an hour and have had no disconnect after getting through queue.
i gave up the queue 30 mins ago. Will try again tomorrow evening though i cant see it being much different.
Can someone tell me if it is the servers that are completely full up, or just the start areas? if its the servers themselves I can't see this issue being resolved for quite a few days at least...
And I wonder why so many people on these forums have no sense of business or business ethics either. You sell a product (in this case the pre-order) with one of the major components of that product being a head start. In other words, part of the reason people pre-ordered was to get a head start (being able to play a few days early). Then come time for that and you can't deliver on that product. I have played MMO's for 10 years and have never EVER seen queues and problems like this on or during a head start. Period. This is a launch day issue and is to be expected then but not at a head start. Rationalize it all you want but NCSoft dropped the ball, they failed to deliver the promise of a head start for many people. Simple as that.
And this is exactly why people need to stop jumping the gun Templarga is right you sell pre orders you had better be able to accomodate everyone not just the people who could care less because they got in....
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Too bad what he said isn't true. Even Warhammer with their "ingenious" theory of "lets just add a gagillion servers and we'll be golden!" didn't work. There was a queue for their headstart as well. Not hours mind you, but took my guild and I about a half hour or so to get in and got progressively better over time and we weren't on the most popular server in that game either so I would imagines for some others it was a hell of a lot worse.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I had no issues with WAR at all. Logged right in and was able to play.
And considering I am at over 6+ hours before I gave up, I would take 30 minutes any day.
Not sure what to tell you. Because there was a queue. It was one of the reasons they added even more servers after launch because people threw a fit about it.
I will say however that having to wait 3+ hours opr more if some are having to do that is silly. So while I understand what they're doing I can understand why some are pissed.
On a different note, had a 30 minute wait here myself - got 2 minutes left

I'm sure it will get better over time. Ncsoft isnt full of abunch of tards who don't fix problems...we saw that in CB and OB. They'll fix this issue just as they did with past problems they had. One good thing that may come out of this is that some of the whiners and complainers might cancel lol
It could be more professional if the pre-select actually worked. All I get for 3 days of trying to log in is the error message "There is not a repair patch for version : '1.5.13.4". That and their dysfunctional website leave me a bit wanting.
Don't know about the rest of the world but to me it went like this: Logged on exactly at 22.00 (GMT+3), played for 2 hours and got to lvl6. Logged off. AAA launch from my POV
You must epic suck then. I played for 30 minutes and got to 6. Doesn't make the game any less fail for launch though.
i logged in 5 mins after launch time, had absolutely no problems getting online, no queue no lag. the only thing 'annoying' is that everyone is in the same area doing same quests.
That new website - A game with bugger all bugs? I can't think of any other game this polished with such good community functions at launch?
Ok its NOT the best launch.. not bug free.. blah blah why?
ITS BEEN OUT ONE YEAR already.
The launch happen ONE YEAR AGO!..
Your not playing version 1.0 are you? In beta ..lol beta.. no they let us USE version 1.0 which had bugs.. which had been fixed already..
So.. yeah.. take any .. ANY other MMO.. wait one year. launch it some where else.. geeee.. look this is the smoothest launch ever for any mmo.. a duh..
DAoC had the smoothest launch in the last 10 years. They only allowed 1200 people per server and they opened up more servers than they needed. No queues, no lines , no disconnects.
I got on to Azphel 10 minutes after official launch and made it to level 3 before getting disconnected. My queue time was 6 hours, and I am now down to 1 hour. Sorry, but that is not a smooth launch for me hehe
Please, I have to know ... is this sarcasm? If it is going great for you then - great, but it is definately not going great for me and I am just real happy to realise I am not the only one utterly, disappointed by this PreOder Head Start. Am I surprised? Not really, but I am still not jumping for joy that I can not even update the launcher let alone begin my wait in a 6hr plus queue.
All seems alittle ridiculous to me. If we want to try and excuse it and toss it up to "Industry Standard" for PreOrder Head Starts then I guess then everything is going great for me...*huge sigh*

That's like saying "when WoW European servers launched it was the most polished game ever" . Well yeah... because the game was already out somewhere else in the world and has already been played for a good long time.
All the Aion team did was translate and fix the English language and grammar of the games linguistic content and then re-release in the west. Big deal no real accomplishment there.
Not saying its a bad game...but its certainly not to be remembered as a clean release compared to other games. Besides "polished" is subjective. For instance: WoW was polished compared to EQ1, and Vanguard was polished compared to Shadowbane... you do the conceptual math.

As stated before Guild Wars and LOTRO and as I'm hearing it at the time of my writing there seems to be some problems with Aions launch now....

Logged on directly after launch, no lag, played two and half hours without problem. Great launch!

"I play Tera for the gameplay"
How can you ppl know if the launch was or was not professional. Let me remind everyone that the games launches:
22nd Sept in North America
25th Sept Europe
Today was the heastart.
It could be more professional if the pre-select actually worked. All I get for 3 days of trying to log in is the error message "There is not a repair patch for version : '1.5.13.4". That and their dysfunctional website leave me a bit wanting.

How many times have they already launched Aion? I mean they have been playing it in the east for a while now.
My sig is just as logical as your posts are
yeah they've been playing this game for a while in korea you guys are just late to the party.
