Yunbei, Your post is ridiculous and your claims I can show you any spot in LOTRO that is 10 times better then Aion means squat. I play both. My first reaction to Aion was, to bad LOTRO does not have a graphic styling and look like Aion. Turbine totally dropped the ball with LOTRO not with landscaped but with characters and all game creatures and npcs. LOTRO has some of the ugliest character in any top mmo. Aion is a much better looking game over all. Sure you might get move swaying grass in LOTRO but Aion is way more interesting to look at and is way more alive. There is so much movement all over the place the world is simply more alive. Unlike a few here I do not think you are a troll you just need to see Aion with better eyes. LOTRO is a great game but as far as the over all graphic appeal Aion wins that battle.
@Kushiel: Yes, chars in Aion look better, animations look better; there is a lot of other ways to judge a game. Heck, Aion may be a way better game, who know? All I say is, if you compare both games Aion is YEARS behind LOTRO, and both can be played on any average computer with good performance. I will not comment to people further who say I lie. Believe it or leave it.
Aion's environmental graphics have never been heralded as excellent. Especially its ground textures. Its character and animation graphics are what people praise, and obviously its much more impressive in that department that LotR.
Aion's gameplay demands being able to put tons of players on the same screen at the same time, and still function properly. There needs to be some "give" somewhere, and personally I'd rather have a impressive looking character with outstanding animations instead of a pretty background. Especially when the first type of graphics you end up turning down in mass PvP situations is the environments.
Lotro's graphhics are one of the best in mmos right now. With that said it also runs like completes horse crap. Popping textures,Moors almost unplayable due to lag. Constant rubberbanding, hitching.
I would take a hit to graphics any day to have great gamplay,Aion gives me a good mix of the too. And before the lotro QQ your computer sucks....I have tried more things to get lotro to run smooth than any other game I've played. I run Aion full graphics with AA x8 NO LAG,not even in Panda.Animation in Aion are about the best in mmo's right now. Same thing with Fail Com's Age of Crap.
GW on max, blows Aion away, so does DDO, in the environment. But Aion has much superioir character models. THought I think Champions is best in that department.
It's very obvious the OP went out of his way to look for a bad spot in Aion. There are a few spots in Aion that have low resolution textures to help run the game smoother. The OP found one and uses it as a representation for what the entire game looks like. Another big difference is that, unlike in Lotro, you can actually walk around without the entire environment of 20 feet away popping up.
Lotro has a terrible pop in problem.
dude, i've been playing LOTRO since stress tests.... what is this pop in you speak off? my rig is getting pretty old, and the only thing close to pop in, is my foilage draw distance, of about a hundred yards or so? LOTRO has i think some of the best draw distance of any mmo.... i can see mobs a few hundred yards away, when the area is flat enough
The problem with Lotro is that it constantly pops low resolution into high resolution, thus causing insane amount of pop in.
Just pay attention to the trees. Or actually i suggest you don't because the moment you start to pay attention to it is the moment it becomes very annoying.
Would disagree. The environments aren't what I would call bland. I personally don't pay much attention to environment myself, but comparing the game to LOTRO I would say the character models are better. Also, when you are looking at the sunset reflecting off of the water as you hunt you notice the lighting and effects are actually quite nice. Even the small details such as leaving footsteps in the sand as you walk are a good touch. I haven't seen enough of LOTRO to make a large comparison, but I have seen enough of it to not have it on my favorite games list.

Why are the characters not facing the camera? Is it to hide the fact that LoTRO's character models are ugly and uninspired?
LoTRO has the best scenery of any MMO to date, there is no doubt about it, but I'd take Aion characters' over LoTRO's everytime.

You mean the water in Aion that you cannot swim in, you merely walk along the bottom? Yeah, great.
Unless the game is 95% under/on water, who gives a shit if it prevails in that ONE graphical element. Prefail.

My goodness, people.
My game's graphics are better than yours!

No, it's that bad. Some textures are just missing in Aion, that's why they always show the characters instead of the environments in movies.
