I do not see an issue with the graphics in this game.  If more companies would concentrate on content and spend less time on the eye candy I would be much happier as a gamer.

So now you are claiming Sony used a completely different engine for their screenshots? Holy christ could you be a little more paranoid ? Anti-aliasing is just a way to blend jagged edges of rendered objects by matching the backround colour.

Where's your link to show that EQ2 isnt using AA or AF anyway ?

well shit, go play EQ1 if you want content and crappy grafix. least that games finished. A good 4rth of my quests i have in my journal are broken right now and another 4rth are newbie quest that will reward me with 2 friggin silver. They wont  finish most of its "content" for another year, the only quests that you can rely on working is the under 20 newbie quest right now.

Im sorry someone peed in your wheeties.  I did play EQ1 and enjoyed it for a few years.  I wouldnt exactly call it crappy graphics.  I am more concerned with game mechanics and economy than how perfectly detailed a mob is.  I though this thread was about AA and how bad it make the graphics look unless you used a cray and not about bugs in the game (which there is a few and will be at release).

well you pissed in my wheaties by saying content out weighs grafix. I pointed out that eq2 only has unfinished content past lvl 20-30, thats buggy-unfinished content at that. I wouldn't mind normally since its beta, but release is in what? a week or 2? All EQ2 really could have going for it at release is its grafix but there isnt even AA and AF in game. I mean go to the homepage, looks like a movie advertisement with only pictures of prerendered CG on the main page, nothing ingame shown.

I too played EQ1 for at least 5 years, was pretty nice looking till  they came along with those horrid luclin character models. Thank god they blew up the moon in eq2 i said, made me hopeful. I only kept playing because i had a lot of fun with the high lvl content, especially PoP. EQ2 doesnt have any of this high end content in place yet, and you have to suffer through jagged and grainy grafix at the same time.

By the way, for those of you that think you need a top of the line super computer to run these features. Ive run all my games(including EQ1) for at least the last 2 years at 1280x1024 with at LEAST 2x aa but usually 4x and 16xaf. All this on my 9700pro video card which compared to what you can buy now is pretty slow and old.

Nobody said that you needed a super computer to run AA and AF- but it depends what game your playing. All people said is that the video looked so much better than the game graphics.

Now eq2 fans are saying that the graphics dont matter??? These are the folks that said that eq2 graphics were amazing, one of the reasons why the game was great. The only thing going for it was the graphics.

$6500 at most. Not like it even matters, I've seen beta screens from testers than look close enough for me.

Graphics in beta on my top of the line(as of 4 months ago at least) alienware  look no where near as good as that screenshot w/the dwarf and skellies. SOE is puttingup a bunch of what i beleive to be rendered screenshots and "in-game" movies, pisses me off. The graphics are still the best for an MMO but they could be improved so easily but i dont think it will ever happen : (, is it possible for them to fix it?

dude, what you kids keep bitching about with the Dwarf picture have to realise is... That Dwarf picture was taken near the start of this year. They have completely redone the character models and environments so ofcourse it wont look the same.

SOE is not putting up "rendered" screenshots.

People said the same thing about Star Wars Galaxies in September of 2000. Funny how the paranoia persists. (in 2000 many people only had Geforce 3 series)

Basically, games that support AA and AF will have the biggest noticability and that's pixelating. The original author is upset because they claim EQ2 says it supports AA yet he believes it does not. The same argument can be used in virtually any game you buy that has AA. Here's some for example:

    image

The bench on the lower right of this screenshort with the wood going down up and down...you can see it is jagged and pixelated. Many people would say this is not AA....

    image

The sleeves of the undead plus the upper half of the firearm. They both show contrary to a game that supports AA

    image

perfect example of a screenshot that shows  AA (try to fina any jagged lines) -Half Life 2

    image

Half life 1 and half life 2 comparison. Notice the jagged lines are heavy on the sleeves of the original jacket. No AA. However, look on the right pick with AA...the collar has some (even though the pic above this has none).

My point? All games that says they have AA does. However, it depends on your graphics card how well the AA is "woking" best for it's environment.

Best example is THX (soundsystem that brings the sounds of the movies into the home). Without a thousand dollar home entertainment system you will not get the cyrstal clear movie theatre quality sounds. Are they false advertising? no. Because you cannot truly take advantage of the deal unless you have the hardware to support it.

It isn't false advertisement. It isn't some underground SOE franchise of black market ratongas trying to pull the wool over the gamers' eyes. They simply have a product available right now that works like this: the better your system, the better your experience.

And unlike many mmorpgs, this will be one of the first that will still have uptodate video settings in 2 years when many other mmorpgs needs to work on expansions to improve their current graphic situation.

EQ2 DOES support AA, you just have to turn it on in your graphics card drivers.  I tried it with and without and you can definately tell a difference.  I can post screenies if you need.

    post some please?image

I really dont see AA as a big issue, hell i rarely even use it.

  • unpoetunpoet Member Posts: 59
xcalibur. eq2 does not run AA, even if you enable it from your controll panel the game does not allow it to run. If you can post valid screenshots with it on ill eat my own head.

oh man, please video tape it!! it'll be AWESOME!! image

  • EnigmaEnigma Member UncommonPosts: 11,384
if you videotape it make sure you submit it to ebaum first. They'll love it!

Ok, I just found the most obvious spot I could and took the pics.  Remember these are also jpegs so parts of the scene look kinda crappy.  Sorry they are so big, but I'm at 1600x1200 and shrinking them would distort the results a little.

Oh yeah, the quality is on 'High'.  Very high makes the hd thrash.

Here is a pic without AA, notice the jagged lines where the red part of the column meets the lighter part.

    image

Now, here is an even closer picture of the same area with AA on.  No jagged lines are noticable at all.

I may be an asshole but i have no problem admiting im wrong if it happens.

The reason im not giving up is because my own computer wil not run anti-aliasing nor my friends, and thats the first screenshot ive seen ever from eq2 by a beta tester that has AA on. Im also fairly sure i know why =P

  • EnigmaEnigma Member UncommonPosts: 11,384

i dont know if this will help but

my computer is a 1.5 ghz with a geforce 4600 128 and I can support AA...although I tend to take it off as its not the greatest card
