I purchased the game for 50 dollars, leveled to 13 and took it off my system in 3 days.
The game is simply gorgeous. The toons and armor are amazing. But...
...it seems this game lacks a social aspect. If you don't have friends in there with you, all you see are people in a hurry. I joined two legions, both of which had at least 7 to 10 people online, but no one talked. They were busy trying to grind through the leveling to get to pvp levels. That's what this game is lacking. A social aspect at the lower levels.
And the questing?..please... "Go get 8 leather belts. Thanks, now go back to the same area again and get HAIR PINS from the other mobs that hang around, Thanks. Now go to this person. (travel to speak to said person who sends you back) Welcome back. Now go get 15 sacks of grain from the 1st mob that dropped the belts"..... All you are doing is basically level grinding to get to 25 so you can begin to enjoy the main aspect of the game. It got to the point where I just couldn't log in...even with all the eye candy.
But, all in all, it's not the game for me. I want a bit more social aspect to a game. It seems to be an Asian copy of GuildWars.
To each his own as far as gaming goes. BTW: Glad to see the site has dropped it's juvenile Darkfall take-over.

Thanks for bringing that up. Something I failed to mention was how lousy the Legions are. For some reason, I joined about 5 legions in which no one talked, no one ever wanted to group together...everyone would rather grind for a level than do a quest together. Also, the group search functions are seriously lacking, as well as flagging yourself for a group. You can't even make note of what type of group you are looking for.
I don't know if this is going to work for me and my wife or not, but we are gonna try to play the game a little here and a little there. I hope this doesn't make us burn out. IWeve taken our time, extremely, since launch. I am not even sure what level I am at, 12 or something. I just decide with my wife, lets play Aion tonight, and we log in for a couple of hours. I hope this works.
We are also going to play other MMOs, to keep a mix going. We just resubbed last night to SOE package, and updated VGsoh, EQ2, and SWG. The main reason was for VGsoh, as I can't get over how nice the videos look and the open world. I bought at launch and it was unplayable. We've updated systems since then and they have updated the game. We tried it on a free weekend or something a while back and liked it, the starter isle at least, so I think we will be happy. Plus I hear it is duo friendly. My first MMO was EQOA and I liked it, and it looks like VGsoh has similarities to it, with better graphics, more classes, more depth, and a bigger world. My second MMO was SWG and my all time favorite. I'm gonna give it another shot, just to see. The other thing I haven't done since SWG is join a guild, and those were fun times, so I'm gonna try doing that again. Of course, back in old SWG your player level didn't really matter, so no one cared how new or old the player, and we loved it. She was fresh to the game and I invited her in. We all would hunt, and I was explaining how to do things to her. Best days I can remember, some fun times.
I tried FE and I liked it fine, but I doubt I'll play it since my wife didn't want to. I see her sitting at the PC next to me playing Oblivion, and would much rather be rolling with her in a MMO we both like. She played SWG with me in the past and loved CH, so I'm hoping BM will appeal to her. My main was a CH also, with some Pistoleer thrown in, my alt was a BH, so I can still be that it seems. She also loved EQ2 when we tried it about 6 months to a year after launch, but it was very hard to duo and at that time the professions didn't open up til twenty. A lot has changed from what I read, so we gonna try that too.
I just hope game hopping and slow and steady will get us back into MMOs. Plus I need to break the habbit that CoH caused which is ALTitis. I hate how I do that in games, especially now days when every class shares the same content. At least with older games, the content was a little different based on class and race. It hinder us a little with the race part, as my wife and I would usually pick something not in the same starter location (thinking WoW here).
But back on topic. I've not sit for hours straight rushing to level 25 PVP, so I haven't been bothered by a grind so far. Hope this can help someone else in a similar situation.

I'm actually not referring to polish. Yeah, it was a factor in AoC (okay - with AoC it was probably one goliath factor) and Warhammer but the real reason those games went south is the actual mechanics of the games. Now, AoC has completely revamped their system so who knows? Maybe given enough time they can recoup. I doubt it but anything is possible.
I also don't see anything wrong with the gameplay in Aion. There are some bugs that need to be fixed but the mechanics themselves seem pretty solid to me. As for content, that is a concern. It is still a relatively new game but really was a mistake on their part I think to only have one static starting area for players. Not the wisest choice least in my opinion. The game does open up at later levels, but I'll be the first to admit trying to tell people, " Well, you just have to wait until you get to lvl 25 and then you'll see what the game really has to offer", isn't the best argument.

I'm not bored to the point of quitting yet, but it is definitely the most paper thin mmo I've ever played. The world is tiny, there is only 1 city per faction, crafting is coma inducing, along with mat and aether gathering, quests are lame, etc etc. Only reason i haven't quit yet is there is nothing else out, but maybe Fallen Earth will get a try from me.
It's not a bad game, hell it has a lot of polish. I loved exploring the world, it is visually stunning even the deserts. The problem however like many of you said is it just ends up getting boring. Boring to grind and also a pain in the ass to do anything, when a quest takes you more than 45mins cause the mobs are being camped and you are constantly fighting others over the rights to a mob, it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
I played beta, I supported the game but it just wore thin. For someone who hasn't played MMOs this would probably be a blast, for someone who has played too many it's just the same ol same ol.

You of all the people have no right posting on threads regarding boredom. When people are burned out by your favorite game, it's something wrong with them, however when they are bored by another game, it's natural? Hypocrisy at it's best.
Not hypocrycy at all, just people stating their opinions of the game, and YOU have no reason to bash it because your a fanboy. Sure your having a great time with aion, but others, including me aren't. So please don't say we are stupid and can't socialize at all, you have no idea. Have fun with aion and please don't flame, its really annoying, and I can tell you many more then 12 people believe aion is boring, just because there is a lack of flamers on this post, well minus you of course.
I am still enjoying the game. Our legion is fun and talkative and I think that helps. Also, I don't spend a ton of time in the Abyss. I hope they really fill out the blank spots in the game (like at Theobomos) soon so there are more options. BTW they promised PvE areas only and as of now Theo does not have mid range quests so there goes there promise. Doesn't matter though Eltnen in the mid-ranges is almost no PvP.
The game does not have much substance and the dungeon designs realy suck. BS story and lore too. But its something to play til final fantasy and old republic comes out.

And those 2 games will have threads just like this to. Some people will like those games and some won't, but one thing is for certain those that do not will have nothing better to do than come here and whine about them and how they wasted a staggering $50 on something.

It's not about Aion. He's talking about when people bash wow, that guy who post the message think the person have problem. But when people get bored of every other game, he jumps in and laughs how every other game sucks.

Maybe but those games are being made by awsome devs.
Very interesting thread. In fact, this thread has been VERY helpful. Just saved me $50.
I wanted to comment on a couple of things. First Malkosha I would advice against looking at a forum to decide weather or not play a game. Just realized that the game has only been out 3 or 4 wks and if these people are bored then maybe the game is not for them. It seems that these people are just tired of MMOs in general. The great thing about an MMO is that you make your own fun in the game. If you are grind and trying to reach the top level and not enjoying the game then you will think its boring. Or if they don't enjoy the gameplay then they might be bored. I say that its fine to have a forum to say that they don't like the game...but remember its just a forum. There are thousands of players that enjoy the game and are playing right now.
Secondly, I wish people would stop flaming each other over who likes the game and who doesn't. If you don't like the game thats cool why make a forum about it? Are you that bored with your life that you have to get on here and complain. I see no reason to make a post except that you are bored of real life. Why else post for the attention? There are already forums with people saying the same thing. That doesn't make it fact, thats just poeple bored and thing they have a "new perpective" on the game. Read some old forums and stop making repeat posts.
Thirdly, stop giving these bored people some thing to do. If you like the game great. Don't let these forums get to you. Poeple are entitled to their opinion. Lashing out at them because they don't like the same game you do is just dumb.
Lastly, my opinion of the game (just to stay on topic) at level 21 I have found a great group of people to play with and I am enjoying the game. I can see that there is a lot of soloing until 16+ when you start get the group quests. I found this time to polish my skills with the templar. Grouping is where any MMO shines...its the whole reason they even exist imo. So I think if you don't create a social network you will be bored. If you are just bored then maybe MMOs are not for you any more. I took a 4 month break after War to play this game and just played console. I think that really renewed my hunger for a new MMO. Pus all my friends where picking the game up and we are having a blast.
Cons about the game: spammers and bots (hopefully we will start seeing bots and spammer drop after a bit but this is hardly a deturrent for me). At this point its clear that spammers are just trying to be annoying. To me that is the biggest problem and really its not the games fault. The game is also linear( meaning you go in one direction and not a lot of free world) but I like being driven by the story. I would go to a friends or check out another source beside a forum on weather you should buy a game. After all how many people are going to jump on a forum to say how awesome the game is? Not many they are all busy playing.
You of all the people have no right posting on threads regarding boredom. When people are burned out by your favorite game, it's something wrong with them, however when they are bored by another game, it's natural? Hypocrisy at it's best.

I see that you're new on these forums. If you were following them closer you'd known that certain individuals have a certain "history" and their views are well known to the community of mmorpg.com.
Had you known my own history, you'd see that I'm the exact opposite of what you assumed when you read my response to the post above me. I find it quite natural that people feel bored about a game, or dislike it and move on. Feel free to read my other posts one these forums, although more telling are the posts I don't make than the ones I do.
In this particular occasion, the particular individual I've called out, is known to bash and belittle others when they publicly state that they are burned out of his favourite game. To sum it up, there is something wrong with us if we feel burned out with the most popular MMO in existence. Yet, he has no problem coming on another game's forum and proclaim that it's natural for people to feel bored by it. According to him there is something wrong when we're bored with his game, while it's natural to feel bored by Aion. There lies the hypocrisy.
I have no issue with people feeling bored with Aion. It is perfectly natural. It's not uncommon to pick something that we initially thought it's good and funny, but along the way we found out that it's not to our tastes. I've also mentioned that I currently enjoy Aion, but this is something that can change at any time, either due to Aion issues or some competitive MMO becoming more irresistible to play
I reacted given our own history, not a random answer to a random person. I've stated in the past that I was a burn out of a game I enjoyed a lot and played for years. Despite saying that I enjoyed the game a lot and played it for years, you felt the need to belittle me, classify me and all similar burnouts as haters and proclaim our opinion on the game as irrelevant.
Both our post history is visible for anyone to explore.
Besides, there is another issue at hand. I respond to this thread shedding some mild positive light, since I'm playing the game. The people who got bored with the game, have at least given it a chance before abandon it. What exactly are the people who never played the game or don't intent to are doing in this thread?

BTW they promised PvE areas only and as of now Theo does not have mid range quests so there goes there promise. Doesn't matter though Eltnen in the mid-ranges is almost no PvP.
Very interesting thread. In fact, this thread has been VERY helpful. Just saved me $50.
almost all the complaints aren't even about this game ppl are just burnt out on mmo's in general.
The game does not have much substance and the dungeon designs realy suck. BS story and lore too. But its something to play til final fantasy and old republic comes out.
An hour of open beta and I could tell this game was more of the same fail that MMO devs seem to spew like crazy...
I just bought Fallen Earth and man I don't know when the last time I had played an MMO that just makes me feel so happy inside (prolly FFXI).
And those 2 games will have threads just like this to. Some people will like those games and some won't, but one thing is for certain those that do not will have nothing better to do than come here and whine about them and how they wasted a staggering $50 on something.
There, fixed that for you.
Katsma is Lithuanian for 'he who drinks used douche fluid'.
It's not about Aion. He's talking about when people bash wow, that guy who post the message think the person have problem. But when people get bored of every other game, he jumps in and laughs how every other game sucks.

Maybe but those games are being made by awsome devs.

Oh it's Zorndorf again saying that all other games are boring and crap besides WoW.
How original.
Why do i even bother reading these forums anymore .
