looks worst than every f2p game out there, you need to have more grass and make it a bit taller, the trees are too dark compared to the terrain. the character model looks way too ugly, i have seen better on the 8 bit NES. Scrap every thing and try again its 2009 not 1999.

Ok Well I am not sure if I should be offended or what. First of all I am aware the character model sucks and that is ok because it won't be used in any game. Its very simple to change the model used once I am to that point. I just had it available so I used it. 2nd these are still work in progress and in fact all I am working on at the moment is the engine and a demo for the engine. At this point there is no game.

Just another example of a gamer that knows nothing about what makes a game truly great, which is a game's mechanics. Too hung up on those 1337 graphics being the deciding factor in if a game is good or not. Don't take it to heart James. Also, DON'T listen to everything everyone says here or you'll end up with a flop like a lot of companies now are doing by listening to the largest mass of whiners.
I think it is coming along nicely considering you are probably NOT a millionaire nor have a big fancy studio you are working out of with lots of team members at your disposal.
Wish my training in Maya was a little further along...I'd work on, and send some elements for consideration and simply to help. I'd LOVE to be able to work on my own game slowly like that.
This is probably the most impressive thing I've seen posted by any member on this site. Not that the graphics are all that great, but the entire endeavor is extremely bold and very commendable especially at the age of 24 (sorry I checked your info).
A lot of people come to these forums with high aspirations to get into the MMO field, but expect a career job with a successful MMO to be handed to them. Its nice to see someone with the balls to make a valid attempt, I just cant get over that you've persued this by yourself and you've done so much.
You definitely have the makings of a lead designer. Keep it up man.

Agree. On a side note, I AM currently in school for my BA in Game Art & Design. SO I am pursuing it as well, just down a different road...currently. Why I am learning Maya as well.
Yes, I'd play a game with those graphics provided the world was enjoyable and the gameplay fun.
I have to echo what someone else asked which is "why make your own engine". You might have answered it somewhere in this large thread but it seems to me that if you are interested in making a game then there are aleady enough free engines that could work quite well and cut down on time.
Ah nvm, went through the thread and I see why you are making your own engine. Well, good luck!
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
Here are some latest Screenshots with grass. I am not interested in what you guys think about the Player Avatar since that hasn't even been touched yet all I am interested in getting feedback on is the environment (Trees, Terrain, Sky, Grass).
In the Screenshots Bill1 and John are both basic NPCs. They have a set number of default sayings that they can say once every minute and they have a set path they walk around on. NPCs are currently treated like normal players.
That zip contains a folder called Release. Inside is the EXE and DLLs needed to run the client. Also included is the NPC Client, Authentication Server, Region Server, and the start of the World Editor (The World Editor is not functional yet).
unzip the Release folder into the Bin directory overwriting the files already there.
In the Release folder is a Config txt file called Player. Open that in wordpad or notepad and edit the Account information section. Enter what you want for your username and password.
If you are going to test out the water then under Options change Use_Hydrax from 0 to 1. Save the file and start the client. Enter your username and password and press enter or click login.
Once you get done PM me to let me know how the water worked for you and what the FPS was while the water was enabled.
Bad graphic could work as long as there is good gameplay feel, and good Animations. (WoW for example)
While WoW is considered to have bad graphics it is still an eye candy and I prefer it over AoC graphics (which is considered very good) on maximum settings, a good example where art > graphical engine.
World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around.
So far the graphics are as good as Tabla Rosa and Vanguard: Saga of Heros. Very good job. As for my tastes, I will play any game that meets the following: 1: Does not offend my eyes with toonish looking charectors, NPCs and facilities. 2: Has an engaging story (please don't use WoW, Vanguard or that ilk as a model for the entire story line). 3: Low level cap, I would rather master skills than grind levels. 4: The focus is not on leveling but is on the story, the world and it's people.
My computer is not high end any more but it gets the job done. If you need a volunteer to assist in any way I would love to help, PM me.
Are you on some class A drug like crack or heroin? Because you are seriusoly one deluded person if u even think thats on TR or vanguard level

When I played Tabla Rosa (during beta and shortly afterwords) that looks much like my 7950GT produced. You are correct, In looking at the screen shots from Vanguard, it looks better than what my 7950GT produced. How would it look now with my newer 9600GT? Not sure; I would hope better but with Vanguard one can never tell.
Thanks I am going to need lots and lots of models for both the demo that I am currently working on and the full MMO Rise of Heroes. For more information on RoH visit our website http://www.riseofheroesmmo.com theres not much information there yet but the forums are working. Also the screenshots and video are from our old Engine (Torque MMOKit) not from this new engine that I am programming my self.
On the forum theres a whole section dedicated to information and suggestions concerning our new engine. In there there is one very early Screenshot from the client but the shots posted here are more recent and the way the client currently looks.
Wen't to your site, looking VERY good at the moment. If you want/need any help with concept art give me a holler. I do a bit of comp art. and have done art for a few books before. not much but whatever...

I've been modelling and such for a few years now. I also do soundscapes and music composition for titles; fairly large portfolio. Not sure what all you're looking for, or if you're looking for outside help. But whether it's your tech demo, or the other title you're working on, I'd be more than willing to help out; just need more things to put on my portfolio for future references, and I believe work on indie MMOs with progress is a fairly nice reference.
I'll send you a message on here in a bit, gonna check out the link you provided.
I would probably play it, if it had all the other elements that I enjoy with few that annoy me. I'm guessing the community might be rather smallish, which might actually be a good thing. /shrug
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
BTW I see its in alpha, is there any way to get in on that? or when do you thin beta will be coming? 2 months...6? a year?
I have no idea when it will be to a beta stage. Once I get the battle manager done We will start doing stress tests of the server every once in a while through out development. We want to see how many people the servers can effectively handle for once we start working on the dynamic load balancing side of things. The goal is to have the server split the world up into sections based on population. So if for example you have the number set to 100 then once 100 people connected to the server it would split and hand off half the world load to a 2nd server who would then handle half the world and population, then once the population on one of the 2 servers got to 100 again then it would split that server in half and so on. The bigger the population the more servers it would have. Then as the population decreased the servers being used would also decrease. That way the world could pretty much handle a unlimited amount of people as long as we had the servers that could be used.

I need some one who has a fairly fast computer and graphics card to test out my Water I have added.
Here is the link to where you can download the client:
Download this and unzip it. This is all of the media files needed.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/vnmje2mmhnn/Bin.rar
Next download this:

I would have to say, it's looking good although sharper textures would be great, along with more advanced mapping features (bump and normal mapping).
