I disagree. People who solo WOULD group if the grouping experience were far greater and more rewarding. However because its not, people prefer to solo. What kills me though, are the most ardent supporters of solo content are the people that no one would want to spend more than a few seconds around anyway.
Do you ever get tired of being so full of shit? I wouldn't group just to get greater rewards, I'd be more apt to just quit playing the game entirely, which is likely what most people would do. So if you want to drive the entire genre into the ground, sure, keep doing what you're doing.

when exactly did I hide my age? I was born in 1975, raised on Pac Man and Qbert, and eventually whatever game would run on my apple 2e. I played muds in '93, the first year that internet access was publicly available in my state, not counting prodigy or compuserve and the like. But I don't throw this in the face of other people here, because it means nothing.
Lol, I still have my Apple 2e in working condition. Pac Man, Qbert, green graphics and all
Heh, I did sell my Apple //e but I've still got my Texas Instruments TI-99/4A in a drawer somewhere, last I knew it still worked but haven't tried it in years. That's back in the day when 16k was a tremendous amount of memory!
I'm older than probably just about anyone here (certainly predate madeux) and I don't feel the need to throw "seniority" or "veteran status" around. Who cares? The only thing that matters is being able to make your case logically and so far... the groupers are failing miserably.
It WAS a team sport. But as more people with an overgrown selfish sense of entitlement filter in the genre demanding that the genre bend THEIR way the more the game suffers. MMO's are dead. And if I wasnt playing with some friends, Id tell the whole stagnated genre and all its flotsom to rot in hell.
Bring out your dead.
Then go ahead, nobody will miss you. You're living in the past. Today, those "group-heavy" games would be considered AAA failures. It wasn't until the MMO market broke out into the mainstream that we saw millions of subscribers and tons of games being available. The "team-sport MMO world" that you want to exist FAILED and was replaced by something that not only succeeded, but thrived.
It's not MMOs that are dead, but your narrow vision of what you wished they would be. Those died a well-deserved death and aren't coming back.
Hopefully someone will pull your favorite hobby out from under you, so I can laugh at your misfortune. Youd deserve it.
Grow up. You sound like you're 10 years old.
Besides, MMOs are hardly my favorite hobby, that would be something that I can do solo and nobody can take it away from me because I don't rely on others to make it fun.
Keep whining, it seems like all you can do.
So if someone completely changed MMOs into a thing youd no longer like right this moment, youd shut your mouth and take it without so much as a whimper? Answer honestly now. I do not like liars.
Sure, I'd go find something else to do that I happened to enjoy. But I'm not a fanatic about MMOs, I play them if they are fun, if they are not fun, I don't play. Right now, I'm not playing any because IMO none of them are fun. We'll see what happens with the next batch that come out.
You, on the other hand, are so fixated on a particular genre that you can't even imagine just going to find something different to do.

Why would a 43 year old man who doesnt play MMOs anymore be on this site just to start fights? Creepy.
I never quite understood people who wants to solo through a MMO game. There are single player games out there that holds a much higher technological standard than that you find in MMOs. Plus they are a lot more challenging. Soloing a MMO is like dancing by yourself at the rave party dance floor. But if that is what you people are in too, then I guess that is what you guys are into. wow i'm almost trolling. Thread title got me a bit.
And a lot of us play those as well. You can go to a dance and just talk to people and have a good time socializing without ever having to dance. There's no requirement in an MMO to group, there never has been and there never will be. It's a massively multiplayer game, not a massively grouping game. The only thing that makes a game an MMO is having a lot of players connected at the same time. People need to stop leaping to the unwarranted conclusion that because there are lots of people around, you have to group with them. It just ain't so.
We didn't steal anything, reality did. Grouping had it's shot, it FAILED. As games became more popular, the majority of players didn't want to group. I just did read the entire thread, all 27 pages of it. And you keep talking about giving groupers extra rewards or making games more difficult so that more people will group. THAT IS FORCE!

Or are you really that blind?
Well man, when we both get banned on account of your neurosis, youll have plenty of time to pick fights with people on other websites for fun.
There does seem to be too much emphasis on soloing in MMOs lately. It's not necessarily a bad thing to offer channels of gameplay within an MMO that are presented in a solo friendly fashion, but it's getting to the point where there's increasingly little to no reason to even bother grouping with other players, let alone interact with them.
If being "fun" isn't enough of a reason, then what is the point?
If you don't have fun grouping all the time you are playing the wrong genre of game.
Whats the fun of being hurt...? Last time I checked, the "MMORPG" did NOT mean Massive Multiplayer Retard Groups...
Let me ask you something, and please answer honestly, even if it puts your true colors out there for everyone to see.
Do you feel like you are a superior player than most people you play with?
Do you feel like grouping is a waste of time because players just arent on your level?
Do you feel like you are less of a player if you rely on other players?
Id really like to know you have a very strange attitude and Im to try to figure out why.
No
No
No
I possess a restless soul; On the move all the time.Theres noone who can keep up with me & my pace; neither ingame nor in real life. Beside that, I am VERY self dependant, which also goes for real life & ingame. I do though, get more kick outta beating the crap out of the epic lewt kids in my blue/green gear, when I have achieved it all by soloing.
As you (prolly) understand by this, I am a pvp'er, not a raider. I am allergic to raiding. I hate it. I hate it when some 14 year old punk tells me what I am NOT "allowed" to roll on. I hate it when someone gets replaced by some other just because new one does 1% more dmg. I hate it when the punk "suddenly" has a lame excuse that 'real-life' calls after he has got what he came for, then leave. This is even after giving assurances that he would help group with the other quests. The anger gets even higher seeing same person at the Auction House 2 minutes later, selling stuff.
My experience is that most 'group-facsists' are incredible selfish; if they aint got anything out of it, they will not bother to help. They will rather do something other than "socialize" in groups... Which means raiding after phat loot with their oh so great 'skills'.
When I play MMO's I would happily create me a new character, just to play with my new arrived friends or my sons. I have countless alts, and keep deleting and creating new ones all the time due to filled up character slots. It takes ages for me to settle with the "right" character, then get to end level; I want to be REAL sure I made the correct decision for the class I will stick to. When I buy me a new MMO, I usually have a 2 year playing time perspective, at least. So, yes I do have patience, even in my hurry...
Anyways: You are most welcome to play with me, teach me a thing or 2 if you want to. Share your experience. Maybe you have lot to offer me, lot to show me in your MMO approach? Unless you see that as a waste of time if you are in the 'end level & raiding phat lewt grouping' category... Right now I am on the Laurelin RP server, EU, Lord of the Rings Online.
Honestly they need to classify new games as something other than MMORPGs then Why dont you come up with a new acronym for easy street no challenge, instant gratifaction with no work involved, mind numbing monster soloing games. Maybe MSORPG? Massively singleplayer roleplaying games?
We'll change the solo-friendly acronym to MSORPG when you change the forced-grouping one to MMOLFG.
Done deal?
Deal!
I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.
the group advocates are full of shit. all they like is the loot, not the grouping. thats why when some1 tells them if they dont do it for fun then whats the point, they come up with "oh but its not challenging". bullshit. they want that phat loot, and they want it to be available to them and nobody else.
Thats a ridiculous notion sir.
much like a guitar player, you learn what you need to on your own, but the end goal is to play in a band with other people.
What you newer players seem to have forgotten is that in UO and EQ, socializing came first, "phat lewt" came second.
But unfortunately todays nerds are just like the asshole jocks that we wanted to seperate ourselves from to begin with.
All attitude, no compassion.
So you play MMO's, but is NOT a nerd...?? That is a laugh...
Reading comprehension for the win. Notice the use of the word "we" after todays nerds its inclusive. Read, then pick the fight, not the other way around.
I admit it though. I am a nerd. Even though noone belive it when they see me...
At least Im not a 43 year old man who gets his rocks off picking fights on MMORPG.COM. Id rather be an ass than a psycho.
I'm not picking fights, I'm correcting your clear and obvious misconceptions, something that lots of people have been doing, only to be continually met with your mindless ranting and immature namecalling.
But I guess we can't expect any better from you. Your posting in this thread speaks for itself. Lots of egotistical self-affirmation with a vast overestimation of your own importance and insulting anyone who dares not to bow down to your asinine opinions. Can't say I'm surprised.
That's only because if players are not encouraged to group with each other, they won't group.
Then apparently, most people don't like grouping if they won't do it unless forced. That ought to tell you something.
This!
I dont mind that people want to group. I do also group, on a very exclusive basis. But I do get a bit pift-off when someone try to force it down my throat in the game I play. Well, not so angry, I just leave if the MMO aint support soloing levels.
Anyways, the whole intention of my post was to try turn the view on the "group-facists"; as I earlier said, the average forum user here is NOT the average MMO player. People here are more interested in other parts of the MMO than the average 'powergaming' player approach.
So, whew, it MIGHT appear so that the 'group-facsists' are outnumbering the 'soloers', but it is not. If it had been so, World of Warcraft would NOT be the #1 MMO outthere. The "group-fascists" are a outnumbered & dieing breed.
There will not ever again be any monster selling MMO wich focus on grouping.
Accept this, and life will be easier, especially in your MMO with your virtual friends.

No work involved? Wow... Well, I still remember back when I soloed the first instances in Hellfire (World of Warcraft) at level 70.... Would you call that no work? Beating up 2 other pallies alone in the arena... equally geared as me, alone, thats no skills...?
Dude, I do not need raid instances to get my challenges; I create them myself!
Well, roleplaying is also almost 'dead'. It is a minority of the MMO genre who does that. Even on the RP servers. So, a better term, would perhaps be Massive Multiplayer Online Game; MMOO?

The funny thing is, technically, I never solo. I always duo with a friend, or trio (?) with two friends. Thats how mmos go for me. I never pug anymore though. I can count with the fingers of one hand the times I actually enjoyed a pug. so I just dont do it, the pleasure of getting a good group once every full moon doesnt out-weigh (spelling?) the grief of getting bad ones on a daily basis.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.

I cant disagree that there are some really inane people out there that you can fall into a PUG with. However its been my experience that you meet new people and the more people you know, the easier it is to find good groups.

Ok, I unblocked this post of your out of curiosity to see what you replied to my non-hostile (this time) post.
Yeah, you might not be lieing (again, spelling?) but that coin has another side. the more pricks you come across, and the bigger and bigger your ignore list gets, the less you care. in the end, you're gonna take your few good friends, for me that usually amounts to up to three, and just pvp, farm, play alts with them and say "fuck you world".
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
It's not that we don't like soloers, but us "freaks" are not the ones trying to change the nature of MMORPGs and take away everyone elses reason for playing a "Multi" Massive Role P;aying Game.

Im not trying to change anything. Im sitting at home reading websites. when I go out Im either sitting in class in college or working. I dont put on my skii mask at night and go out to a developer's house and threaten them with a kitchen knife "make mmos for soloers!"
But I wont play a game where I dont have any fun, I tell you that. the genre is evolving, some like it some dont. thats life. I liked 80s movies and they dont make em like that anymore. shame. I moved on.

Thats a nice pic, you lift part time?
Well, not even that.... went thru my gym diary, have 466 workouts last 15 years.... That means 2 workouts each month.. not much Each winter I tell myself to start going to the gym more regular... so I get into shape for the summer.... hehe... at least THAT has become something frequent! :-D
I'm still trying to figure out why some of the people who are so rabidly against even a minuscule amount of required grouping are even interested in playing an MMO.

Creepy.
Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, Aion, Allods, lots more
Relatively Recently (Re)Played: HL2 (all), Halo (PC, all), Batman:AA; AC, ME, BS, DA, FO3, DS, Doom (all), LFD1&2, KOTOR, Portal 1&2, Blink, Elder Scrolls (all), lots more

We didn't steal anything, reality did. Grouping had it's shot, it FAILED. As games became more popular, the majority of players didn't want to group. Therefore games started to cater more to their wishes because those are the people who are paying the bills. If the MMO world went to catering to groupers, it would implode, there aren't enough groupers out there to keep the genre alive.
But you don't like that, you want to live in a fantasy world where you can have your way. Because people obviously aren't going to CHOOSE to play your way, you want to either force it on them or bribe them. Anything to get people to do what *YOU* want, then you whine that people stole something from you. And you don't even see the hypocrisy.
Im not going to force it on anyone. read the rest of the thread hoss. You are missing the entire point in your overzealous attempt to stir up trouble.
I just did read the entire thread, all 27 pages of it. And you keep talking about giving groupers extra rewards or making games more difficult so that more people will group. THAT IS FORCE!
Or are you really that blind?

At least Im not a 43 year old man who gets his rocks off picking fights on MMORPG.COM.
Id rather be an ass than a psycho.

Well man, when we both get banned on account of your neurosis, youll have plenty of time to pick fights with people on other websites for fun.

Make us care MORE about our faction & world pvp!
Make us care MORE about our faction & world pvp!

Honestly they need to classify new games as something other than MMORPGs then
Why dont you come up with a new acronym for easy street no challenge, instant gratifaction with no work involved, mind numbing monster soloing games.
Maybe MSORPG?
Massively singleplayer roleplaying games?
No work involved? Wow... Well, I still remember back when I soloed the first instances in Hellfire (World of Warcraft) at level 70.... Would you call that no work? Beating up 2 other pallies alone in the arena... equally geared as me, alone, thats no skills...?
Dude, I do not need raid instances to get my challenges; I create them myself!
Well, roleplaying is also almost 'dead'. It is a minority of the MMO genre who does that. Even on the RP servers. So, a better term, would perhaps be Massive Multiplayer Online Game; MMOO?

Thats a nice pic, you lift part time?

It's not that we don't like soloers, but us "freaks" are not the ones trying to change the nature of MMORPGs and take away everyone elses reason for playing a "Multi" Massive Role P;aying Game.
A tiny mind is a tidy mind...
Im not trying to change anything. Im sitting at home reading websites. when I go out Im either sitting in class in college or working. I dont put on my skii mask at night and go out to a developer's house and threaten them with a kitchen knife "make mmos for soloers!"
But I wont play a game where I dont have any fun, I tell you that. the genre is evolving, some like it some dont. thats life. I liked 80s movies and they dont make em like that anymore. shame. I moved on.

Well, not even that.... went thru my gym diary, have 466 workouts last 15 years.... That means 2 workouts each month.. not much Each winter I tell myself to start going to the gym more regular... so I get into shape for the summer.... hehe... at least THAT has become something frequent! :-D
Is that you on the pic?

I'm still trying to figure out why some of the people who are so rabidly against even a minuscule amount of required grouping are even interested in playing an MMO.
