I've done a few skirmishes now, solo with my 49 Guardian, and have done the tutorial with my 40 Hunter.
I found them fun, but they do have the frantic aspect that I always find very tiring and conducive to headaches in good groups, a primary reason for my preferring to solo these days, and with half an hour being about the maximum time I'd want to spend on one I think. Difficulty level is critical, as without much in the way of loot it can be very expensive if you happen to die a few times. Death is also very dependent on the randomness of the skirmish which is an area that may need some tweaking as it can be pretty hit and miss.
One concern that I'd like to see addressed is that I really don't want my inventory cluttered up with assorted skirmish marks and bounties etc the whole time, couldn't they simply be itemised on another window like your cash?
I'm now sure how much I'll want to repeat the skirmishes, notwithstanding their randomness, but on the whole I welcome their intrroduction as they undoubtedly provide an additional aspect to the game and that is always a good thing.

I think as you continue with skirmishes you'll find that death is not really dependant on randomness. You know you are going to get easy waves and hard waves. You need to be able to deal with a lieutenant and a couple of adds, that's where the deaths come from. Of course, each lieutenant is different so you need to learn what to do with each one. I can tell you that after a week of skirmishing every day I've figured out what each lieutenant in solo skirmishes do. I've also figured out strategies for each one, but maybe not optimal strategy.
I did the Gondoman skirmish last night on my lvl 44 Guardian (my first real skirmish) and the only problem I had was with a eagle type bird that was hard to take down,,,,not sure about the strategy on that one. But it was crazy fun and I finished it (ran it a few levels lower till I level up my soldier and get the hang of them.

If I recall correctly, he gets buffed based on the number of allies he has. Take out the other mobs first and he should fall quicker.
Yay for soloing online for 15/month. I would prefer to play single player games than be in an instance by myself with npc pets. At least I am doing the same thing but without a sub fee.
Of course, you could always make a few friends and group the instances. No-one said you had to do them alone.
Kinda funny how he assumed that. Actually, skirmishes are easily the most "group friendly" thing in the game, since you can invite anyone from anyplace in the game and start the skirmish together, instantly. How much more group friendly can you get?
I've played each of the skirmishes twice now and I'm sorta meh about them. They are pretty repetitive and besides the housing barter items there's just nothing I'm interested in obtaining. Once I get the housing barter items I'll probably be done with them.
I just tried skirmishes for the first time last night and I'm already loving them. I did the intro and the 4 daily ones and got almost 65% of a level out of it. I did have a full level of rest xp but still I am impressed. I can't wait to get home from work today to do more!
Skirmishes in my opinion could be a prelude to RvR. Maybe in the future, if it works, they could implement it in a PvP system. (the boss could become a creep). For now they are fun and interesting, and I do not think myself that they deter from the immersion in the world. Quite the opposite. The storylines are interesting and it is a great way to quest with friends and kinnies without the hassle of porting/travelling to the same place. Try to resub it, even for one month. Give it a try, it can be worthwhile.
I am very suprised by what I have been reading around here; After running through the skirmishes and seeing how there are basicly only two types and how little variation there is from run to run (spawning different Leuts barely changes a run) I quit doing them from shear boredom. And at least among my Kin and the general comments on Landroval's GLFF, I think that's more the concensus than what is showing up here. People were very excited for a few days and now everyone is focused on DG and hardly bothers with skirmishes. Except for Sixsix (infamous on Landroval) no one is searching for skirmish groups anymore.
Using them as a base for new PvP would be they only way I could see them being saved. This type of BG really only works when you have live thinking oppenents to challenge you.
30+ I believe. I have not tried the yet did not have a ton of time lastnight.
30+ huh? And you can get xp from them? How are they as an alternative viable option to questing for leveling?
I was trying to get a warden and captain up to 60 for awhile but lost steam around level 30. If you can get xp from them, they'd be great for those times when you're left with quests requiring too much travel or are otherwise annoying to get to the next level. Would be great to fill in those gaps with something fun.

Another PvP whiner it seems... I reckon it's time for me to head off EVE website and start claiming that nullspace should have Concord presence :P And due the missing PvP, nerfbat rarely hits classes too heavily in order to keep them 'balanced', which is another huge bonus too. MyPvP experience from UO onwards has shown me that the regular MMO PvP crew aren't really that impressive opponents as thinking or challenging goes, sorry.
So far been fairly happy with skirmishes myself. Another great option to spend time waiting your friends to come online or do fun stuff with friends while they are online.

Yea you get normal XP from the mobs in skirmishes + you get a daily quest for each skirmish which give decent xp. But note that at lvl 30 you only have acces to 1 or 2 skirmishes and then you get access to another one every 5 levels.
Skirmishes are not so muhc fun if you dont have right right difficulty setting but when you do them in bigger groups with higher challenge level they really start to shine. I do a couple of skirmishes almost every night and they are alot of fun. But since they dont give good gear most people seems to focus alot on the DG instances right now.
