So, I bought Darkfall the other day on a whim after seeing the Kraken video and watching some other videos. I wasn't sure if a game like this would be for me, but I gave it a chance and MY GOD did I make the right decision. I don't think I've had this much fun in an MMO since my VERY FIRST MMO ever - Final Fantasy XI. Now, for everyone out there, the first MMO is normally the best experience you have in gaming. Its like popping your cherry, its the one you remember. Now, I don't know what it is about this game, but I didn't think it was possible to pop your cherry TWICE?!
A Short Story - My First Quest
Well, I'm having a hell of a time. Literally every step of the way is an exciting adventure. This isn't like your regular MMO where you are guided and told what to do to have fun. Oh, no... in this game every little thing is a new story.
Yes, you got a quest to go out and get rid of the goblins blocking the trading route path. Thats all fine and dandy. What the quest doesn't explain is that on your way there, you might meet an insane guy who has lost his mind and is killing everyone who comes near him, negatively affecting his standing. Yes, this is a PC not an NPC. Basically this guy is lowering his alignment just for the hell of PVP. Some people do this, most people do not. Well, you grasp your newbie sword in your hand, and realize that since he attacked you twice, you can freely attack him with no negative consequence. You manage to slay him, and it turns out that on this quest, instead of just getting the pair of pants that the questgiver was offering, you also get an awesome two handed polearm and about 300 gold. Perhaps this guy didn't believe in banking? Who knows. You complete the quest and go bank your newly found cash.
Making Friends
As we all know, soloing in MMOs is fun. Grouping is even more fun. I managed to meet someone who was doing the same quest as me. So, we teamed up and destroyed the little goblins. It turns out some highly skilled player decided to ride in on his raptor and kill off the new guys. So, while he is distracted by some helpless newbies wandering the road, we snuck off through the bushes to a hidden goblin camp. We could now finish our quest uninterrupted. I accidentally hit him with my sword, but didn't end up killing up. Yes, thats right, this game has friendly fire.
In Conclusion
Honestly, I have so much more to say, but not enough time to do it. If you are on the fence about getting this game, definitely bite the bullet and do it. You will not regret it.
Right now they have a deal on where you get the game and 6 months of play for $87. Its like 30% savings.
Click the link in my videos if you want to sign up, honestly its worth it. The game is just amazing.
My Videos
I have some videos here if you'd like to see. They are nothing special, just me doing some quests, but it shows the game for what it is PVE-wise and not just the dressed up videos with rockin music playing.
If you like, post some of your own stories - whether they are newb or veteran stories, I'm sure many of us are interested.

I've been starting to follow this game a bit recently. The common opinion seems to be that the game has taken a good turn for the better.
Watching some videos, i still find it a bit awkward altogether. Animations and combat could use some work, i read the same about the sounds somewhere. But i doubt that at this point these things do have some higher priority on their list, they seem to rather shove in more content in general.
I hope they manage to get this game together in say one more year of further development. I will be in then, if in the meantime they don't pull off some sort of NGE to attract more players.
Glad youre having fun.
you have some nice questing videos also. good job
Nice story and welcome, I posted my story a while back about how some player in bone armour with transmuted fire weapons jumped me as I was logging. I got into tower range and he was killed by the NPC towers in the starter city. I came back, got a free mount, full set of enchanted bone armour and an enchanted fire bow and transmuted fire sword.
I nearly shit my pants twice!
He was killing Orks to get his negative alignment back up.

Glad you're liking DFO! I would agree that I haven't had this much fun since my first MMO, which was WoW. I know, I know, but everyone has to start somewhere, right?

You have to have lower quality animations and graphics in order to get stable 200v200 sieges; however, they have improved animations on spells, added in idle character animations, and upgrade the sound a lot this last patch. There are still issues to work out in the patch, mainly balance issues, but it was a good patch.
Note: I'm calling it a patch because most of it dealt with balancing changes. There really wasn't that much content added.

Honestly man, look at it this way. If you want graphics go play Aion. You will not get gameplay. If you want gameplay, play Darkfall. The graphics aren't amazing on models, but the scenery is awesome, and the music is so eerie its breathtaking. Fits the game perfectly and adds a sense of mystery/fear I haven't felt since I was like 7 years old scared $#!%less playing Eye of the Beholder on my SNES.
There was some guy in the starter town who got off his horse and then ran to the bank. YOINK mine.

Also you guys that like the game might want to go to the mmorpg game list and rate Darkfall what you think its worth.
people look at ratings
Maybe someone on this website will take the time and re-review the game sometime.
It's nice to hear positive things. I hope your fun stays level it seems its at for you.:)
All i got to say is there is no better time then now to come into Darkfall.I've been playing the game since launch and it has come a long way,but with this new patch its almost as if has arose from the dead and everyone came back to play.
P.S There is also a clant hat main focus is helping new players check it out on the Darkfall fourms, look for "NEW"clan.
Honestly, the more I read about this game, the more I want to check it out...not trying to hijack this thread or anything, but what is the in game economy like?
PLAYING: NOTHING!!!
PLAYED:FFXI, LotRO, AoC, WAR, DDO, Megaten, Wurm, Rohan, Mabinogi, RoM
WAITING FOR: Dust 514
its about the same as every other game: material focused economy primarily due to the fact that all clan and alliances are self sufficent .

I just finished watching the OP's video clips and the animations seem to have improved alot. Scenery and overall ambience is just amazing. Damn, this game is starting to drag me into it...and by it's raw gamepay it is just what i've been interested in forever.
I'm right in the action of moving and renovating a house and i'm already way behind my overall schedule in this process, so i can't really make the time to sit down and dig myself into a new game. Not shure when my desktop pc will be up and ready in the new house. In the meantime i have a notebook with a C2D 2,93Ghz, 4Mb Ram and a ATI 4850 at hand and only some hours in the evening to spare. Do you guys think that this combination could do it? Or would you suggest to rather wait until i've got more time at hand and can also enjoy the game maxed out on my desktop pc?
Anyway, i will keep a sharp eye on it from now on!
Thanks for your replies.
Your PC should have no problems. I'm running it on a laptop with a C2D 2.43 GHz, 4GB RAM and a 9600M GT. Fiddle with the graphics settings (shadows mainly) and you should be getting good fps. I'm getting around 90-120.

There are no auction houses, all trading is done face to face. Because of this, the crafters become really cut-throat but it is very personal. The thing is, if you're dumb and do a trade in the middle of nowhere, they can just kill you afterwards, take your money and their item back. The entire economy armor/weapon wise is crafted pretty much since I'm told that is the best armor.

Well they did just ad player vendors (gnomes) that people have next to their houses. Something fun I guess, and helps with economy without being an auction house really.
You might want to keep this in mind if you are running ATI.
Turn shadows OFF. There is a wierd performance bug with ATI that will let your FPS go up by 4x if you do this. Also if you use xfire, press "disable x-fire in-game" under the game-options, since xfire has some problems with Darkfall.
You should be getting about 100 FPS in the wild.

I laughed so hard at the mount statement. Thanks for the videos man! Hopefully I'll be playing after finals.

Yea got to be careful with mounts and shiz, never unspawn it in town or around any people you dont know, they jack it. If an item is not in your bank, then dont consider it yours.
Isn't the link in OP's a referral one? Should remove that, if so.
Sneaky, posting all colorful letters to divert attention to it
Yup was about to point that out too.
Remove the Referral link evil GPrestige! It's against MMORPG.com rules :þ
That said, great to see the game's shaping up. Might not go the route of Shadowbane after all .
They did say they plan on box sales right? If so, that's likely when I'd consider picking it up at that point. I don't know... I just like the idea of an actual *box* with a disc inside. I like to have a collection of game boxes on the shelf, to show off to people who probably couldn't care less :-p
Call me old-fashioned, but the advent of digital-only sales is kinda annoying to me, personally. :-/

I ate a vindaloo with chips, two nan breads and some bread and butter!
They plan on selling DFO in boxes, just no ETA but I'd guess sometime next year. This is no Shadowbane, I played it and it was a fun F2P but this definately shines where SB dropped the ball.

Last night was a blast. We had two rafts and set out towards the sea fortress. We were supposed to meet up with our alliance. We thought they had control of the tower and when we finally arrived we approached the tower. Needless to say it was manned with enemies and the cannon blew one of our rafts and it's occupants to smithereens.
The some of us got away and met up with the alliance which was on three brigs.
The fortress is just that, a fortress. Very hard to penetrate. A long ladder leads up to the cannon and that is just a death climb. It was a chaotic mess.
Lost my stuff but still had lots of fun.

Hmm... vindaloo... sounds Indian, so that's probably what it was. XD
As for SB... it was F2P during its last death throes, so - assuming that's the only time you'd tried it; not sure if you did prior to that - it was actually a much more fun game - if you could get past the clunky performance and enthusiastically annoying community. There was some pretty intense PvP, and the resulting drama afterward was always fun to read :-p. Loved the character customization in that game.

Chips with curry... bread and butter?! You've gotta be northern?
