I nearly shit my pants twice! O.o What the hell did you eat?
He was killing Orks to get his negative alignment back up.

That said, great to see the game's shaping up. Might not go the route of Shadowbane after all :).

They did say they plan on box sales right? If so, that's likely when I'd consider picking it up at that point. I don't know... I just like the idea of an actual *box* with a disc inside.

The advent of digital-only sales is kinda annoying to me, personally. :-/

I ate a vindaloo with chips, two nan breads and some bread and butter!

They plan on selling DFO in boxes, just no ETA but I'd guess sometime next year. This is no Shadowbane, I played it and it was a fun F2P but this definately shines where SB dropped the ball.

Chips with curry... bread and butter?! You've gotta be northern?

Certainly not! Curry and chips is a traditional English meal, and I like to have bread and butter with everything (it's like French and wine). I didn't play SB when it was P2P, I liked that it was PvP focused but shopping was a nightmare!

Like some of the others have mentioned, ive slowly started reading up on darkfall within the past week or so, i steered clear of even reading up on it much at first. Some reason some aspects of the game do seem appealing though. Im a big fan of systems that let u make a character truly unique and ur own style, hybrid, can melee and just as effectively use magic or ranged without a restriction to the type of weapons u wish to u. The graphics of the environments look nice to, Hell i play FE here and there and some say its graphics arent that great but i find them good and quite fitting for the theme of the game.

My biggest issue towards looking to into Darkfall though is that im primarily a PvE player. I know that if i become good enough i could still handle attacks by a lone player here or there probably, but i guess im wondering if its even doable for a PvE type player to go ahead and try darkfall with the whole open pvp setup? Since i assume not even towns are really safe spots?(btw i also know well enough to make good use of bank/storage, its rather common sense to me at least lol)

and OP great starter vids you put up there, well done and showed off some basic gameplay well. Im sure those creatures that got u in the last one shall see u again some day then they'll wish they had left u alone

The one thing keeping me from buying this and waiting on Mortal Online is that DF has preplanned templates for hamlets and cities.  Is that correct?  Since so many references to Shadowbane were made, I remember how much fun free placement of player buildings was and many guilds had guys whose function was like a chief architect in laying out the city walls, placing the armoury, guard barracks, etc.  Are there any DF plans to loosen the restrictions and  allow some kind of free placement in the future?  The progress on  this game does look very good, though.

I find it strange that so many people are doing their best to make this game seem like its amazing, when games that are very good have little to no posts like this.  The truth is that this game is probably crap and the devoted player base is trying their best to make the game seem more then what it is.  Dated graphics wise, amateurish animations and the only thing which seems to attract people is the free for all pvp & loot.  I bet the original poster even works for Darkfalls parent company.  Always strange how these gameplay videos include advertisements to buy the game.

I don't think that is ever going to happen.  It's not all that bad though.  One thing though, Mortal Online is in a very bad state right now.  It has a long ways to go to be able to offer the kind of gameplay you can currently get in Darkfall.  If you can afford it, get it.  MO might be worth checking out in 6 months to a year (I'm a MO Beta Block A tester).

Don't knock it unless you've tried it.  People like this game for many more reasons than just ffa pvp & loot.  For me it's about freedom, no instances, no invisible walls, well placed mobs that drop what you see them wearing, ships, player cities, hamlets, villages and housing, sieges, player politics, huge world, no restrictions.

So you keep thinking that us fans are really paid employees of AV and you can go log into your MOG (Multiplayer Online Game) while I will continue playing this sandbox MMORPG.

Perhaps they are making it sound good because their concept of good doesnt revolve completely around graphics?

You can have the best graphics ever put on a computer screen, but of your content, and over all gameplay is bad, well, seems to me you have a bad game.

I agree with you 100%  Graphics do not make for a great game. AoC and Aion have proven this. But with that said having ok graphics can help a game. DFO has ok graphics and it really doesn't look that bad ingame. The world has a nice feel to it and there is a load of varity to the game world.

But most people that come to DFO are not looking for great graphics. They are looking for a PVP based Sandbox style game. In that case DFO very much fits that bill.

I wouldn't doubt it if you don't see free form city placement in the future. I think the player housing was a good start for the technology. Now that the framework is there it wouldn't take much for them to expand that and apply it to city placement. They have already set themselfs up for a large land expansion in the future with the addition of more large scale sea combat and sea forts.

Kinda cracked me up here, he states he doesn't know it's crap since he hasn't played it but at a total blind guess would say it probably is. Then a weak accusation the OP is being paid by AV?

Well I could say that since you haven't played, but I don't know what you like to play so my best guess is you're probably mistaken. I could then go on to accuse you of working for Funcom or Star Vault and are here to troll Darkfall and lower interest by spreading lies.

    However I won't since I'm not a muppet ;)

And 9/11 was an inside job....

There is more positive comments lately, because the game is improving and there is more balance and content. I am a critic of DF and I have to say that I re-subbed few weeks ago. The game is fun for me and quite a lot of other people. You don't like it and that's fine, we have different taste.

BTW there is nothing strange about adds it is called The Darkfall Community Publishing Program forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php which allows players to recommend a game to somebody and make some money on that sale. I personally don't bother with that.

Dont think you are serious considering i have gone through a tremendous amount of posts like yours for some years now in these place in which people claimed to tell "the truth" spreading misinformation without having played the game at all ..eh ? you played Darkfall ?

For those who at first  felt for such type  of badmouthing like you do here and now tried out themsleves not believing the example of your negative drivel (or daring to be confronted by its truth)  have been positive surprised by the game.

What brings me to the thought of why you think still that you can still influence someone here by your amateurish attempst to critizise the game ?

I mean graphics ? meh ..we have never heard that one before ...animations ..meh..stigmatizing the FFA full loot community ..yea ..how a originally never has been mentioned before here. zzzzZZZzzzzzzzzzZZZ

btw the advertising part requires you to be a active player of the game (active subscription) so while we enjoy Darkfall we also try to get benefit from the genious community programm of our generous developer ;)

Yup was about to point that out too.

Remove the Referral link evil GPrestige! It's against MMORPG.com rules :þ

Hey, sorry I had no idea. I simply put it there because it is a campaign offered by AV, and I flat out want a lot of people to play this game. I mean, its not fair to those people out there who haven't played it yet because they don't know what they are missing! It also gives me like a % off my subscription or something. So, while I could simply link to the page to buy the game, I figure if someone gets intrigued about Darkfall because of something I did, I would think they would be generous enough to consider using my referral to the game.

I don't think theres anything wrong with that.

In regards to the poster who thinks I'm a shill or something, you have no idea how many times I've been called that. Look at my post history, I just get excited about the MMOs I play and make threads about the game showing what it really is, not some biased view one way or another. I love Vanguard, Age of Conan, Lord of the Rings Online, and this game and I've made a thread like this for each game probably. What person in their right mind working for a specific company would go and advertise about different games? Honestly, I'm just a regular MMO player who loves to share his experiences with other MMO players.

About Mortal Online - While the game does look amazing, yes, is is essentially an empty shell. I'd probably pick the game up if there was ACTUALLY PVE added and a lot more content added, because it does look really good. Right now, I'm having a hell of a time with DF and I figure it can tide me over for a while now.

No one brainwashed me and I am going to buy the game this week and I will take the offer $87 for client + 6 months of play, nice offering made to attract more players. I have been reading a lot of reviews about mmorpg and trying a few ones in my search for the perfect one: the closest to a real medieval fantasy world where I would do all the things I would do if I live there. I bought a new computer just to play the game since my former one was a little outdated and got the money to buy the game I have my account ready and I am just waiting to fix a little proble with my paypal account which I will do today or tomorrow and I will enter this game which is the end of my search. I wont wait for MO not because the bad reviews but just because I dont like the first person perspective for a rpg game (I can tolerate it only in combats, another point to DFO). I will finish saying that I thought that MMORPGs would never replace my pen and paper game sessions but after all I have seen in DFO I think my mind is changing.

In DFO, you're in 1st person most of the time. You're only in 3rd person when harvesting, melee combat and resting (that I've seen). Just letting you know before you buy.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu

You need to carefully decide which skills you want to focus on so you can customize your character to your playstyle, since you are only able to max out ALL OF THEM.

So most of the time is 10-15% of your game time? Nice definition of "most"

I started playing last week, i too dont like first person that much cause its more dangerous as you lack the view on your back, i simply run around always with my weapons/tools drawn when im not on my horse (horse lets you look 3person freely) You are still forced to go first person for ranged combat which pretty much plays out like in fps games but its your choice to do so. Altogether the game acts like op says he tolerates it while you suggesst its way worse.

So far the game is a blast. Certaintly something different from the standard 08/15 mmos that are dominating the fantasy mmo market.

I appreciate you take the time warn me obout this situation, according to the videos I have seen on youtube I can see a third person perspective most of the times, can someone explain please when I get the third and when the first person perspective. I really dont want made a mistake with my $87. I think first person perspective never will be, at least in a computer game, third person in the other hands gives peripherical vision which is more accordingly to the reality.
