Now that is a big ass statement... then I wonder , have you even played any AAA games? Like dragon age origins, killzone 2, gears of war, city of hero's, hell even runes of magic.

I like super hero games, and I liked city of hero's but that game was just a big ass grind fest.

Champions online is just, well boring. I created a character, took the chain saw and grinded like 50 mobs in less then 20 secs. This is what I called balanced .... lol.

It has some good ideas, but paying for an alpha version of a game sux. Thats just not acceptable.

On the plus side, it has something no other MMO out there except CoX can offer: the ability to create a unique character in terms of looks and powers.  This is quite a major feature really, for certain types of players, including me.
The combat is really very good indeed, and very addictive - much faster-paced than your usual MMO combat.
On the minus side: there are many little bugs, and a few major ones, still to be ironed out, and there's a fair bit of wonky balancing to be done, and there's a TON of content needs to be added, before you could say this is the MMO it was meant to be.
In an alternative universe, Cryptic would have been able to release this game finished and polished, with the full amount of content it was no doubt meant to have, and they would have released it simultaneously on 360.  It could have been a world-beater then.  The basics are there, there's just not enough flesh on them bones at the moment.
But if they do manage to polish it and give it enough content, folks coming back to it to try it out again will likely stick.  If not, it will likely fail, which would be sad.

I agree on the character creation, its nice but its the same thing as in city of heroes. So why bother? might as wel play city of heroes again if I want a polished game with a good character creation system.

And the character creation aint all that cause when you finally create your character, well thats it. You have to play like that the entire game. Yes you can still change it but what the hell? give some gear that i want to show off. Thats the whole point of a mmo. I want to run in a city and people can say hey where did you get that item, ... . There might be some small stuff in the game but its just not enough. I would like to change my helmet, or shoulder pads, or gloves with gear. And not glare at the same damn model for 50 levels and then some.

I don't think every MMO that ever comes out needs to cater to 'collecting loot', etc. But I agree on the main point that beyond the character creator things can get boring hella fast.

I wish they applied their creativity towards implementing over fun things to do..... Really the main thing that grabbed me was Zombie Apoc

  • Die_ScreamDie_Scream Member Posts: 1,785

I say this with no sarcasm: It's the worst MMO I have ever played. Mainly because the devs are directionless, the content is too thin, the teaming is simply pathetic, the servers are down far too much (at the worst times - weekends, holidays), there are no roles, so everyone is the same character (DPS with self sustaining heals).

The game is severely unpolished, unfinished, and as deep as a puddle. I wouldn't recommend the game to anyone.

Also, the OP has no experience with MMOs besides maybe CoX (far superior to CO) obviously. Oh, and is clearly a troll.

ohh my god.  I see some have an extremely high threshhold for some of the most mundane, brain numbing, same quests with different mob names, whack-a-mole, pve only, pvp ignored, contentless games available today.

You might get some relief, though.  I hear star trek online is aiming to surpass the co lackluster with nothing more than a costume change and a ship, and more of the same.

Co was awesome the very first time I played it in Alpha... but it was a steady decline from there... and then yanno... Bill Roper did that whole tank the game apon release with the WORST patches nerfs ever...

Co is now more like PONG than a Super Hero game.

Well i'm having fun in CO. Hard part for me is deciding which character I want to play that night. I have many alts and enjoy playing all of them.

many will agree the game is fun for 1st few weeks but it gets old fast. You seem to have alt-itis so thats good. But if you ever decide to focus on your main you'll notice more and more how bad things get

Melee is subpar and unfinished. Really, who wants to sit still and charge a close range attack for 10 secs while mob is getting blown away by your ranged teammates?

And teammates? Bah, it was so tough to keep teams together. You cant share XP like you can in CoX

The patches were nightmare. Nerf nerf nerf. I remember final straw for me was the CoPD nerf. It needed a nerf true. But devs admitted it was 3x more strong then a def passive. My question was why launch with crap like that? Cause you rushed the game out the door

PVP was a nightmare. just Arenas, no thought. Zombie Apoc was nice but I have left 4 dead 2 for that

Travel powers incomplete. Superjump was virtually killing my Tank with every leap thanks to the silly falling dmg. Really- any1 ever seen the Hulk die from Superjumping????

The quest seemed so bland. At 1st I liked the open environment and being able to see all the different heroes. But it got annoying- all those bland 'kill x quests'.

Yeppers. It's kinda sad because I really want them to succeed badly. I'm a big fan of comics and classless MMOs and single world servers.... So on paper, it was rocking. But once I got ingame and saw all the bad design decisions, patches, etc it all went downhill....

Still hoping they pull it out of the slump but I know deep inside these devs just don't have the heart to make the game realize it's full potential....

Maybe the DC superhero MMO will feel more complete since it will at least include playable villains.

I really only have 2 major points here.

    1) CO is a great game for the 10 dollars  you can buy it for on steam. It has just enough content as a single player game at a quarter of the price, no additional subscriptions needed.

    2) Don't knock Pong

Only to a handful of people. Most consider it a singlle player console game that requires a monthly fee. Which I would assume is why the majority that tried it left in the first place. 10-20k subs is about all that needs to be said really lol.

And before someone says the sub numbers are fine or that I have no proof the subs are that low.

This is there 3rd free trial and they've gone the route of DDO with it. There is a free demo for some many levels that you can play for as long as you want for free. Sure it's just the tutorial area, but DDO's free demo thing was similar and they eventually went free to play because the interest just wasn't there lol. Of course DDO was around for far longer than CO has been before it got to that point. CO apparently is trying to set a record here lol. Pay to pay to Free to play in 6 months.... go go speed racer goOoO.

Interesting coincidence, that DDO and CO were licensed from PnP games.

Even better that, like DDO, I'll be able to make my Champs character portrait for said PnP game.

They sure spent alot of money designing that PnP Champions portrait maker...

CO's not a bad game just not what I would consider 'THE' best game in the market. I went in knowing that there would be issues - hey, what newly launched mmo doesn't right ? But heck, they just wore me down with it and after 3 months I finally quit. It took 3 months because I couldn't log in half the time.

Gameplay-wise, it's fine, nothing to write home about and simple to grasp. It's not like you have to hit 10 keys in a timed sequence just to fire off a power.

Graphics is fine too - looks just like a comic book which was what Cryptic was aiming for anyway.

Content - sadly, yes, this is lacking and plays too much like a single player stand-alone game; All characters (as of a month ago) literally has to do the same identical quests to get progress. Presumably this will be beefed up with time

Skills/Powers - Unbalanced and for some powersets, broken. Imho, it's going to be problematic for Cryptic to fix this since they don't have class restrictions. It's not like someone can point to a toon and say, "What do you expect ? He's a rng class; great with a bow but if the mob blinks at him, he's dead". It'd be interesting to see how well they balance this out.

Crafting - Not even worth talking about.

Items/Loot - Looks great at first glance when you get the items; and then you equip them and go "Uhmm, I just lost over 250hp to get something that can possibly do a 120point dmg period ? Hell no."

Technical - What a total mess. Lag (over 3 continents at the same time), latency, graphics issues, server disconnects, server crashes (and no one on CO side knows the servers down), patch server crashes, unable to login for no reason, extremely long loading time (my record was 22 minutes), group lag, all add to an annoying experience. Don't have to believe me, just take a peek at the Technical threads on CO's forums.

It got to the point where I would come home from work, have dinner, fire up the pc, try to log in a couple times and if it works then great and if not I would just go read a book. Sorry but I'm not that charitable as to constantly pay for a product that I can 'maybe' use once in a while.

Maybe once they sort everything out I'll go back. Great character creator though. They really outdid themselves on that part. No sarcasm meant here - just a true compliment.

I have to admit, I still log in just to goof around with the char creater. Cryptic truly are among the best when it comes to char customization at creation. If they could get the rest of the game up to that level they could bank hard core lol.

Maybe they should take the char creator and intergrate it into a comic book maker prog. I mean, that they could have made money with lol. CO, not so much.

Maybe what they need is an intellectual property to match their seemingly narrow skillset.

    Eg. Barbie.

A game where you spend 90% of your time creating and then redressing your character and the other 10% just swanning around trying to be envied.... I'm sure Cryptic could nail that one.

    Point #1

Isn't this sad though? I mean, aren't people paying a MMO? But where is the MMO in Champions?

Man I remember this one time I managed to get a team together and was LUCKY to make sure we all had same quest series. I remember all we did was help some noob kill a mob.

And you know what this guy did?

    He told us off

So many Champions players think they're playing a single player game

    Point #2

Can't people buy a better game for that $10 though? And why is this game already $10 anyway. I paid like $50 for it just a few months ago

I thought it was so great too at first. But then I thought bout this and realized there are better char creators out there too.

For instance, you can get better full body looks in Soul Calibur IV. See these youtubes

You can get better faces in single player RPGs like Dragon Age Origins

I'm not wealthy. I find the game fun. It's your opinion you dislike the game. It is my opinion I like the game. So no matter how much negativity you post about the game I still enjoy it. I enjoy the games I play and the moment they stop being fun I quit and I'm not on the forums for every postive thread about the game with a negative post to balance it out, I don't really care. I have much more better things to do. Post history speaks volumes for certain posters. Nothing I can write that will ever change your mind, that's fine I don't care. It's a video game.
