Wintergrasp is instanced now. I guess peopel didnt get the Memo. YOU have to que up, you cant just fly in there and start killing people when its going on. You join a que. You go into the loading screen and join WG. So stop saying its World PVP .

It was thebest in Vanilla WoW. I think Cataclysm will revive the World pvp though. Since we're going back to old world.

So world PvP is non existent in WOW ...

WOW another one of those incredible statements.

First condition to this is of course telling everyone Lake WIntergrasp is not a realm based open world PvP zone with Realm controlled based loot and Raids.

I must have been dreaming when I achieved my 100 th win in WIntergrasp ....as were all those other guys around me.

You werent dreaming when you got that 100th kill, but you're dreaming if you think WG is still Open World PvP when the match is going on. =)

War and PvP should be about conflict, not the ability to kill. Any idiot with a sword can kill something. This is what I like about WoW's PvP server. PvP is available at anytime, anywhere and anyplace. The exceptions are opposite faction's cannot harm players in their starting cities, newbie zones (1 for each race) or any area up to level 15(1 per faction). But if a player is foolish enough to attack someone of the opposite faction while within these areas, they are flagged for PvP immediately. This has brought a level of rational PvP to contested areas (anything above level 15). You still can be killed if you're below 15 and you venture in these areas, but for the most part you're good to go until you have a few levels under your belt.

And what I have seen from 5 years of on and off living on a PvP server in WoW is less trigger happy PvPing and more focused killing/killing sprees/PvPing. This is good in general because it trains players to expect to be kill, but don't think too much about it to hinder your ability to advance.

Take Red Ridge Mountains( level 15+ zone), it was known in the pass as gank central. But over the years it has morphed into a area where 1 or 2 murderous horde may show up to hassle players. Usually a defensive call goes out and players will head for the hills to hide. After that the menace will usually head to Duskwood (level 19+ zone) to finish off their gryphon master and prevent those few in town from escaping. Then others arrive to fight the threat off and send them running. This type of spontaneous PvP I can understand because it's non-scripted, random and restriction-free.

See?  that's a guy PLAYING on a Wow PvP server.

Big difference with playing on a PVE server and then want to complain about PvP on a forum.

On Al Akir not a night passes to see skirmish and massive actions against SW and IF...

On the better PvP servers a rating of 1900 is mediocre at best....

You must play on EU i guess.

WoW does not have this. Having just one zone doesn't qualify an MMO to have open world pvp. If this were the case, then even City of Heroes would qualify

WoW's World PvP might be terrible at the moment, but in my opinion it has the most potential.

    Biggest lie I ever saw.

You can ALWAYS go to Wintergrasp by ANY means (read above). The only limit is that 8 full Raids is the maximum number of players in that zone: 240.

So that has NOTHING to do with "an instance". You can join the battle anytime.

Control of the realm based Z O N E gives access to 3 Raid bosses and PvP loot.

Additionally, having a maximum limit of players also disqualifies it. Battles in EVE have gone beyond a 1,000+. I've seen vids from Darkfall too where massive armies fought

I realize there are probably a lot of players content with 256- players but in EVE I've gotten spoiled by just having more then that in 1 fleet

That doesn't matter in regards to the topic. I never said whether it was good/bad. I said WoW has no place in an open world pvp thread

WoW PvP servers have best PvP servers. And I am 100% correct, I went to a private school so I know a lot about different subjects. A lot more than people who went to public schools. If you think WoW PvP sucks, you shouldn't be PvPing at all.

  • I would have to say WAR of any of the games i have played.  Every tier has its own open world pvp area, and its almost required to do it.  Its a lot of fun, and constant battles of 50+ on each side is normal.

I didnt bother quoting but for the guy who mentioned MAG, arent we talking about MMO's here?  Not to mention its only on the PS3, which means no one will buy it, and with that many people, there are sure to be lag horror stories galore.  Not to mention it isnt the least bit open world.

I give up its apparent most people are unclear on what the OP refers to. He should have given more specifics

  • DragimDragim Member UncommonPosts: 867

    lol at Darkfall, absolutely hahah.

The pvp is comparable to a barnyard where a bunch of chickens with no heads live.

As for melee?  Forget it if you are fighting 2+ people.

Magic wise?  Plan to spend a lot of time upping your skills to be able to even use a decent magic spell, and when you can, be prepared to farm tons of mats to cast them.

Archery is cool, thats about it.

Everyones opinion differs, but darkfall, still just lol.

Warhammer Online is fun, despite it failing.

Dark age of camelot is the best, though it is barely hanging on.

    Darkfall again, just lol.

I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

Obviously it does belong in this thread considering you can attack other players of any level in 80% of the world (not counting instances) on the PvP servers. I'd be interested in understanding why you don't think it belongs here, because in your post above you only mention WIntergrasp, which is one zone in a hundred. Is it because it's faction-based and not FFA? Faction based games can have World PvP too. Just becaue you can't attack your own faction does not mean it isn't Open World PvP.

Maybe it doesn't belong because the game is 80% based on instances right now?

Oh, I was under the impression, that you can't attack players in high sec zones... Again, a game doesn't have to be FFA to have Open World PvP.

That is a popular misconception. In EVE Online you can be attacked anywhere. Concord (the NPC police) will try to intercept but their goal is not to protect you but rather, punish the person that killed you

However, Concord can be bribed, etc. Your only security is to belong to an NPC newbie corp and even then, you can still be attacked. But at least Concord will not accept bribes and allow hostile corps to wardec you

He said what game DOES it best, not what game offers free killing anywhere, anytime, anyplace. Doing it best and doing it are two different things. And I stand behind my first statement and say WoW PvP servers do it best. I played Shadowbane for a fraction of time when it was free. I played DAoC but you're limited too much to your area before you're introduced to PvP. I played UO and it was good, but was only populated by naked men running around with capes and cheap weapons. I played AC and AC2 but again if you were the wrong class consider your options death or slow death.

In WoW if you couldn't beat a certain class when you got jumped, you had the means to escape at least. But in my years of PvPing across many MMOs I've seen one MMO do PvP right. Nothing beats the thrill of denying someone of what they thought was an easy kill, by living to see another day.

And to make this clear to others: You can only measure PvP on the merits of the tools available to players to fight within the confines of the settings they are in. And on it's basic level PvP is nothing more than two or more players pitted against each another.

In that case, I guess you CAN attack players of higher level in the starter areas in WoW since they will be PvP flagged, but you would be silly to do so.
