So in short pre-order it when you have gotten a feel from playing/testing it yourself.

I guess the same nonsense would apply to "needing" to pretest every computer or console game, not just MMOs, for free before ordering or buying.

The personal agendas camoflaged as appeals for fiscal responsibility are pretty transparent.

These are games we're talking about here, not significant, unalterable, or extremely expensive life decisions.

Read up on a game, look at the features it offers, and if it looks like it'd be fun, play the thing.

Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.

But that's what he's saying, right?

If you pre-order a game without playing it for yourself, you are also paying for it without reading up on reviews/its full list of features at release. It would be silly to pay $60 for a game without seeing a review for it... That's how people fall victim to the hype machine. Unless of course, you have already played it for yourself, and know that you will enjoy it at release.

A couple of rules to keep in mind:

    1) The game is still under NDA until Open Beta starts next week.

    2) Talking about what you "heard" is still an NDA violation and will be removed.   Action may/will be taken on accounts repeating the comments even if it actually is from a "friend.".

    3) Keep all posts on topic of OP.  Go to LFGame if you want to discuss games to try or recommend.

    Cheers.

If I have the money, you bet your ass I'm going to get it. But if I don't I'll bitch and moan about not having it.

There are closed beta players that have been cleared by Cryptic to give out previews, answer questions, and give opinions. Google "STOked" or "Jupiter Broadcasting" and you will get closed beta info that is legitimate and cleared by the devs, as one example. Long shows, and some may find the hosts annoying, but they give a ton of info. There are also direct answers to questions on the offical forums by these players.

OP - google up some info, hear it directly, and then we dont have to give the mods an ulcer about what is/isnt NDA breach. I am going to preorder, FWIW.

If you want to feel like you're a 8 year old dumped into a park full of child molesters then try Eve online and best of luck on your wait.

I never could understand this logic.  I pre-ordered this game because I want to play an MMO,  and have for a long time wanted a sci-fi mmo.  I take the approach to MMO's that I buy them,  drop $50 and if I end up playing for only one month how am I behind.

If I buy Dragon Age or Mass Effect 2 and drop the same $50 I am only going to play them for about a month tops before moving on to something else.

The other added bonus of the pre-order is it essentially gives you a 3 week free trial during open beta/head start.  If the game sucks bad enough than you simply go back to your retailer and cancel your pre-order.

I have just spent the last 2 days enjoying some beta time of the game and so far I'm really impressed.

I know there's so much for me to explore but that's just it, that's what I want and so far this game just has so much going for it,  so much that I can see myself buying this on launch day.

    Mission 8/10

    Game play and Graphics 9/10

    Space Combat  9/10

Bridge view 2/10 ( with updates I'd give it a bigger score )

    Ground Combat 7/10

    Exploring 10/10

    Music and Sound 8/10

UI is wonderful and you can customize it.

I wish there were more attack options when on the ground, but other then that, I am satisfied.

This is a Get It worthy title.

    Wildstar (2013) & Elder Scroll Online (2013)

    Playing: Diablo 3, WOW, Far Cry 3 & X-Com.

Enjoyed: WOW 5 1/2 yrs, LOTRO 3yrs, GW 1/2yr, DFO 1yr, EVE Online 3yrs, and Huxley (Beta).

Failed to impress: GW2 3months, Tera Online 6 months (best combat system in any MMO I've played) STO 1/4yr, Aion 1/2yr, AoC 1yr, CO, Fallen Earth, DDO, EQ2 1/2yr, WAR 1/2yr, Lineage 2 and FF XI 1/2yr, FF XIV.

After I suckered myself into buying the Vanguard Limited Edition pre-order, I vowed never to pre-order any MMO ever again.

So anyway, I'm downloading the STO DDE right now from Steam and feeling pretty guilty about it.  I'm HOPING it will be a good game since I'm a Star Trek fan but this is Cryptic we are talking about here and I'm thinking that maybe I should have waited a week or two before ordering.

    We'll see soon, I guess.

Same here... after CO I figured this would be a flop as well, but I'm a Star Trek fan.  There haven't been any games that remotely captured the true sentiment of ST, here's to hoping.  Open beta tomorrow should be fun.
