I just don't get it.
I do not see a MMO based on STAR WARS being excessively popular for more than a month.
Its a fun idea, but its not a lasting impression, i mean... Its freaking star wars.
Thats like making a Muppets MMO.
Comments
That makes sense....
Someone should make a Muppet Star Wars MMO! That would be pretty epic...
Consume. Be silent. Die.
MMO??? where??
An MMO would do fine for more then a year..but swtor is not an MMO, its a single player game with multiplayer connection to co-op if people want...
Amazing that SWTOR is the highest hyped game, that just blows me away, pathetic lol. Call me a flamer troll, but its ridiculous.
There are so many better titles, "BETTER" because of the more creativity that went into the overall world itself, that are coming out.
FFXIV is one,
I mean, is Diablo III even on this site, if this game is, D3 should be.
Taken straight from Biowares FAQ page for SWTOR.
How does Star Wars: The Old Republic differ from other MMO titles?
Star Wars: The Old Republic will be similar to other MMOs but with several key innovations. Traditionally MMOs are built on three pillars; Exploration, Combat, and Progression. We at BioWare and LucasArts believe there is a fourth pillar: Story. Our mission is to create the best story-driven games in the world. We believe that the compelling, interactive storylines in Star Wars: The Old Republic are a significant innovation to MMOs and will offer an entertainment experience unlike any other.
Really? Where were you in the days when SWG had 250k subs simply because it was star wars, and when FFXI had 250k simply because it was final fantasy. People will buy KotOR because of the IP behind it, and people will be too enamored to leave it because of the IP *and* development house behind it. You'd be surprised how far fans will cling to something, just like how the STO community is panning out, as well as how if a Harry Potter game was made, some people would continue to play it no matter how horrible it is.

Waiting On: GW2, TSW, Archeage, The Rapture
Perhaps this is why I don't get it, I hate story driven games, i prefer having fun.
I guess that's unfair, a good story is nice, but I don't focus on it.
Creativity?
That explains why there was no new races.
So based on that, SWG was not a MMO? WoW is not a MMO? Any game you can solo in is not a MMO?
What I dont get is how did you all managed to play the game already. Please tell me, because I want to try it too. You know, so I can have an informed opinion on the game, and not just rely on pure speculation.
So, lets hear it.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
I personally think adding new races doesn't make much sense... like WoW's expansions ALL of a sudden having new continents?
Keeping the same races is a way of keeping it linear and making sense, adding races is needless and hapless. The different bases are covered wit hteh 5. intellect , int/agi, hybrid, str/mnd, str. What mroe do you need? A Str/agi/mnd freak just to make it redonkulously complicated for NO reason whatsoever?
Yes exploring new words and/or locations encountering new races makes no sense, at all.
Admitting you're just justifying your own hate with stupidity is the first step to recovery. Next is paying attention in English class.
Unfortunately for you, if everyone relied on informed opinions, these forums wouldnt be here until POST-release, making your argument quite moot... it is impossible for us to make an INFORMED opinion, WITHOUT the game in our hands, and thus we must resort to the next best thing, a SEMI or UNinformed opinion.
If you are against these typed of arguments and opinions I think you should stop viewing these forums.
Story is great but if I really wanted to put that much emphasis on story I would go read a book instead of playing mmos. More focus should be put on combat and content.

bwha, i edited my admittedly retarded grammar error before you posted XD
SWTOR just seems like it has become Guild Wars in the Star Trek world to me. They may have a good story line, but from what I have seen it looks like it will be a more single player experience. I am fine with soloing in an mmo, but I still like to meet others and explore a big open world together. Right now unless I hear something to prove my feelings wrong I will not be giving the game a try, and will instead look forward to some of the other upcomign games.
I personally do not like games based on movies, because your hands are tied for creativity.
Even that said, there is stil la lot you can do with a space game,i mean i look at EVE and there is a bazillion ideas that can be improved upon.
I will mention things that even a non sci-fi or space person would get into.
Example crews to fly ships, and maintain them in space,REALISTIC space stations that you can actually control, fight in,fight against guards, explore ect ect.
Have several planets to explore ,not as many as EVE because you just have solar systems with nothing really useful.I mean a realistic number like maybe 5-6 planets ,with each their own faction/race materials, unique crafting to each planet, each planet is a whole new exploration.
You should have tons of skills to actually learn and have lots of variation for each, such as ship repair skills, cooks, weapon specialist both ship weapons and hand to hand weapons.Technology experts, craftign and building experts ect ect.
You could design the game so that the player who actually gets to captain the ships, would be the highest RANK Captain,so you create a system such as FFXI had with fame through quests and missions. To make it even more unique you also need to have certain skills to captain the ship,so those who choose weaponry might not have what it takes to pilot a ship,as you would need say mapping or navigation skills, leadership skills that give bonuses to your crew members ect ect.
All of this without yet mentioning space travel or combat, there is a ton more you can do with that.It all comes down to if the developer wants to actually put in the time and effort to build an EPIC game,or just build something financially viable to make a profit. If it is all about profit and not the game, then you wil lnot get a good game, jus tthe same old same old we have been seeing over and over,it is obvious MOST developers are about the money ,NOT the creativity.
So yes they COULD make an EPIC STAR WARS game, but i would bet anything they won't,just another boring clone of all the other releases we see now a days.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
That and, unfortunately for you, I'm not justifying my own hate with stupidity.
I'm attacking YOUR hate for FFXIV with a 'stupid' idea to show that a new race would just take the balance out of the game.
If the 5 races worked as well as it did in FFXI (very well, indeed), then why mess with a good thing? the RACES aren't what people complained about, they LIKED them, so they KEPT them, and changed what people DIDN'T like.. I think thats a good use of time don't you?
Star Wars.... Its freaking STARWARS!!!! Light sabres and R2D2! MMO? (partial MMO?) Not for me, kthxbye
IMO, one month after release, its not even in the top 10 on this site.
For a game that is not for you, it sure is grabbing your attention here. May I recommend the FFXIV forums?

Oh oh! No worries no worries my friend I am in them in another window .
It's going to be the most popular MMO since WoW. If you believe differently, you are fooling yourself.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
lmao, I'm going to go with your joking.
People say that about every game they like, and they always say "Since" just like you did.
WoW is still here kiddo, i dont think millions of people who are addicted to COMBAT and GEAR and PERPETUAL FIGHTING are going to MASSIVELY leave their hard earned characters (accts conceivably worth hundreds!) and a game they obviously love, for a game that is 60% based on the STORY line.
If you believe THAT, you are fooling yourself. Not everyone is a fairy and reads quest text.
