Apparently players are hitting level cap already, Cryptic was unaware (come on guys, have you not been following mmo news and know these guys just live for the rush) and there is much back and forth.
Hilarity ensues....

Do people even play games for fun anymore? I remember the days when me and my friends used to make up our own content in EQ. Guess that's just to hard for people to do these days...
I read through that whole thread and all I have to say is that both sides of the "debate" are remarkably ill informed about the game they're playing. The OP had power leveled his way to cap, and didn't even realize that Cryptic's plan has always been to add end-game stuff a week or two after launch. I'm not playing the damn game and even I knew that.
STO's community is also a pretty bitter and hostile crowd, it seems. It's at WoW levels in terms of rudeness and anti-social behavior. In WoW that comes from the fact that so many of the players are in puberty; in STO I'm guessing it comes from so many of the players having Asperger's Syndrome. Don't know how else to explain it.
Lol here we go again, Look NO MMO starts of with end game content as MMO are progressed games with a unfolding story.
So If people want to rush to the end only to find that they have nothing ot do well It's there own dam fault for having to Rush IMO, I never played STO but played many MMO and hear the same old story "No EnD GaMe, Waaaaaaa", Well, no shit, your plaing a MMO not a Ps3 game, your $50 paid your you to get started in a ever unfolding story not $50 for a Finished product like you would see with RPG's.

I disagree with this sentiment.
Anyways, its sad to see people power leveling to no end game in a matter of days in modern MMOs.
This is just plain wrong... Name one MMO that has released with no end-game content.
Some lesser games do of course release with broken/buggy/unfinished content, but it is at least in place. The dev's end-game intentions are clearly shown. However, I cant think of a single MMO that has released with absolutely no end-game content, which is what the OP in that thread is saying.
Now, as for the rushing to end game part, I rush to the end game because for me, the game doesn't start until the end-game. To me, everything in between is just there for me to learn how to play my character... I believe that the journey is more important than the destination, but the journey doesn't even begin until I've hit max level. I got my start in DAOC, where levels 1-50 were a mind numbing group grinding experience, and the real fun did not start until 50, when you hit the frontiers for the hundred player PvP battles and keep sieges.
So, when I spend my $50, I expect a complete game. For me, that includes end-game. If a game doesn't have it, they wont be getting my $50.
Well, it's in place for STO, too, they just don't plan to release it until next week. They wrongly assumed nobody would make it to level cap that quickly.
There are always the people for whom a game doesn't begin until level cap, and people who just enjoy the process of getting there. Cryptic games have always been for the second group. CoX didn't have anything but a single raid until years after release. Champions has two five-man "raid lite" missions, which sounds like exactly what STO is gonna have. The "game doesn't begin until level cap" crowd have really just chosen the wrong game here.
I REALLY hate to break it to you ... but Star Trek Online is 200% Caca. This game is a critical failure for a company that indulges in making critical failures.
agreed. I don't see other MMO's doing this. It be like WoW coming out with no instances at all. yes they came with more after but they had a few...

For those of you saying that you should not power level...
One of the reccurring themes on this site is "everyone likes to play differently".
Well, okay. I am definitely not a power leveler myself but I don't begrudge those that are.
In any case, that's not the point.
This is supposed to be an MMO? That implies not just levelling - but something to do when you get there?
Yeah they are going to 'unlock' the endgame content next week... right... let's hope they have finished it by then?
This screams 'unfinished game'!
Are people levelling faster than Cryptic thought? Maybe... in which case they learnt nothing from Champions Online.
And based on the Champions Online response to this... expect a massive nerf next patch.
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
You should have a look ingame at the chats. It's absolutely horrible and hostile.
All kind of languages flow through eachother and people constantly attacking eachother for it.
And then you got the endless debates and fights between idiots with offensive names and the naming police.
This community is going to hell already and clearly shows why other MMO's have German and French servers (for example).
Just to avoid the obvious cultural differences and headaches for GM's it causes.
I have been in numerous PuG groups since headstart (those auto forming ones) and in only 1 group people actually talked with eachother.
In all the other groups I could say hello, hi or whatever.... with not a single response!
That's STO for you! Except the constant bashing and fighting in chats, this game truly is a single player experience.
Cheers
I am a HUGE fan of the ST IP... what Cryptic did to this game ... I seriously will NEVER forgive them for.... I think Cryptic, is by far the worse developer of MMORPGS in the HISTORY of MMORPGS... Obviously we are not talking about scamming mmorpg developers like mortal online or otheres like it... ugh words cannot express how I feel about Cryptic.
So much for the utopian vision of intergalactic peace and cultural exchange!
surprise surprise, didn't see that coming.

I have to agree, even WoW only had Molten Core as it's single end game encounter while Black Wing Lair was being worked on.
Ppl are so impatient, they have to rush rush rush through to the end to "Start playing the game for real", as if end game content is the only content thats supposed to be fun, they forget all about the journey to lvl cap.

you can't really fault people for rushing to cap so fast. there are many different types of players out there. some like to go at a snail's pace and others just rush to the end. like someone said on the sto forums, companies need to anticipate this and plan accordingly. if you've only got enough content to get to cap, then you're doing it wrong.
I don't know what's more shocking...
The fact that Cryptic has no endgame content and that there are just no missions anymore when you hit Admiral 5,
or
the fact that people rush through the content in 2 days,
or
the fact that Cryptic said that it was 100 hours till you hit the cap.
Anyway... I feel sorry for all the players who bought lifetime subscription. That's a $299 for only 2 days of playing

Look at this topic: http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=103288
How is Cryptic going to provide any working endgame, if soon NO ONE is even going to bother grouping at all anymore.
Any last little bit of credibility Cryptic had left, just went straight out of the window with this one. What a bunch of baboons and amateurs.
I wonder how long it takes, till even the hardest of the diehard Cryptic / STO fans will turn their back on them.
And to WoW. People seem to forget Onyxia's Lair. Wich had one of the best quest chains of all time as pre-requisite.
Plus all the 5-10 man dungeons like Scholo, UBRS, LBRS, Strat, etc. wich people had to go through numerous times first to gear up for the RAIDs.
This is one of the big things that's been worrying me about this game. if everyone hits lvl cap too quickly and starts whining about no content, then cryptic might give in and only focus on end game content. if that happens then this game will never live up to it's potential.

Maybe I've just been lucky but the community has been pretty good in game from what I've seen. Trust me if someones reached Admiral now, then they've played non stop since headstart. That means, no job, no school, college whatever. These MMO's assume you have a life to lead aswell as that. I've played a couple hours each night and I'm just at lieutenant commander. Truth be told, if your willing to take your time and level, accept people will be far ahead of you. Same goes to those who power level. You reach admiral quickly, accept that your going to be in the few. Just don't complain. You've got the most powerful gear in the game, use it. PvP.

What end game content are you talking about? Really? Especially with the way the 'loot" is given out to the highest dps'er.. I can see it now.. New End Game 45 level Fleet encounter.. Borg cube with uber shield.. 20 ships attack the boss cube.. The ONLY ships that are going to roll for the loot will 99% be escorts since they do the highest dps on average.. The cruisers and science get no chance, even tho they were there to help with damage mitigation to keep escorts alive.. LOL
Before you even get to end game.. Cryptic needs to address their insanely stupid mechanics of loot distribution in a group (fleet) setting first.... LOL
Personally.. I think the statements of "we are adding end game soon" is nothing more then a carrot to keep ya'll interested until they figure out what to do.. C'mon already, they took 5 levels OFF the max from 50 to 45 because they didn't complete that part of the game, and you think that end game is done and waiting to be loaded? Any end game you see now, was probably pulled out of their backside within the last couple weeks, and I'm sure it will be followed with a "Yes, it's not the complete end game because we just wanted to give more people an opportunity to achieve admiral status, and more will come later" carrot on a stick..

This is only true to a point. If they played the game by way of the PvE content (Episodic Missions) there would be no way they would be capped already as it would take them at a minimum of 80-100 hours of play time. These people are getting there so quick by using a known exploit in the PvP/PvE encounter system. A known exploit that has yet to be addressed by Cryptic I might add. Now I'm not trying to make any excuses for Cryptic here, just explaining the situation as this has been known to players and to Cryptic since very early in the OB and Cryptic has yet to do anything to remedy the situation.
As for there being no real end-game I knew that going into OB. This is supposed to be addressed in the near future when they do the 'Borg' content patch. These people power leveled themselves to a nonexistent end-game knowing full well that it wouldn't be there before they did it. Not trying to make excuses for Cryptic again as there should be at least something at end game at launch but these people did it to themselves. They skipped over hours and hours of content in their rush to cap which was their choice. They really have no call to bitch.

Thats rubbish mate. Myself and others fought Neg Vhars, or whatever there called. Big ships anyway. The loot drop and allocating seemed to be random as I fought one for ages, did alot of damage as a cruiser. I can match his damage by the way, but he fires no shots on the target, and gets the loot.
So your theory isn't true. As for starbse 24 etc, I think thats more true. It's as many enemies you engage, ships you heal, and ships you destroy. Loot allocation is random though. I can say that with 99% certainty. Just as I think I see a pattern, I'm proved wrong. Not bashing you or anything, you sound like you think you've been given the short end of the stick in the loot, but your theory just isn't true. Otherwise, myself as a cruiser wouldn't be getting loot over the escorts in the fleet. Neither would the science ships, who do get the loot aswell.

They already unleashed their Carrot, by stating that the first big content patch is coming in 45 days.
It makes me laugh of anyone that believes in this crap still, as it's the exact same 45 day trick Cryptic used with Champions Online to lure people into subscribing for another month.
An MMO is a work in progress, you may not agree with this statement, but it is fact. Might not be right but that is what is happening in the MMO world at the moment. STOL have a ton of stuff they will be adding, They have not added PvE for the klingons, Cassadians are yet to come as are the Romulans, after all that then they may look to the delta quad etc etc.
STOL has 80 hours of game play atm, this was annouced by the Games director before release.
80 hours = 3.3333 days the game has been out now for 7 days(headstart) so it is actually possible for people to have two chars at cap.
All power players will know this, if they complain then they are being childish , like a child who eats all their sweets in one go and cries afterwards lol!
While I'm not surprised in the least about no end game content, I did say before when the game was still in beta it had some large problems.
Also, the thread on the forum about healing have NO effect on how you rank in the fleet action is amazing. Since there are a number of games out now that have a way to measure healing done inside these instances, you'd think they would have picked up on maybe, if healing ships are needed, that they should be included in the whole points to get loot in these instances.
But I also heard from various sources, the way cryptic is going to fix this issue, is by offering an item in the Cstore, that you buy for 20 bucks, that allows healing to count towards fleet action points so you can get items.
