MMORPG.com has learned that the mythologically-based MMORPG, Gods and Heroes, put on “indefinite hold” by Perpetual entertainment back on October 9h of 2007, is rising from the grave.
Heatwave Interactive, a game development studio and online publisher located in Austin, Texas has obtained the rights to develop and release the canceled property.
“Heatwave’s philosophy is to identify and develop world class IP, and we believe the project is just that,” said Anthony Castoro, co-founder and CEO, Heatwave Interactive. “With this acquisition Heatwave greatly expands its core development capabilities as well as adding a well-known, award-winning title to its expanding intellectual property portfolio. This game hits the Heatwave ‘HIP’ mark in terms of its social gaming features and the intrinsic entertainment value found in its mythological storyline, high action adventure and beautiful art style. ”
Heatwave also obtained rights to the proprietary engine that Perpetual developed to run both Gods and Heroes as well as their own version of Star Trek Online.
More information will be made available on this story as it develops.
You can sign up to receive official Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising updates at the preliminary website that has been made available.

Nice find. I hate to see near-completed games get scrapped. It looks like they'll get it out within a year from the tone of things, as it was already in beta originally. Good to see a game with a unique twist too, as opposed to the same elf/dwarf/dragon b.s.
Now this I could find interesting.
Funny, I was just lamenting the shutdown of this title the other day. I was in the beta for this and the game really was pretty good. The performance, however, was horrible. Being beta, that was to be expected. It was a big shock when it was announced that Perpetual was going down the tubes and taking Gods & Heroes with it. Heatwave has bought a game that wasn't far from release, so I'd expect to be seeing some definite timeframes in the near future.
Good luck to the folks at Heatwave.

Nice, indeed. I liked the premise of this and briefly got into beta. Unfortunately, just running along the beach caused my machine to chug-chug-chug so badly that I uninstalled it without ever interacting with an NPC.
Outstanding Find Stradden! If its accurate then all they would need to do is put some 2010 polish ( and some more content) on the old girl and fire her up! Outstanding!
(BBBBBBBB WWWWWWWAAAAHHHHHHH raises plunger in salute to possible return of Gods and Heroes!)
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care.
Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
Good news to hear. I hope they take whatever time they need to make the game work right.
I was in beta as well but was running a top of the line computer then and had no prob but the hair not being drawn on my little helpers ( forget what they called them), But a friend of mine was in beta to but he had to put his char on autofollow to me cause he could not move or turn worth a damn hehehe
I really liked the game and thought it would do ok, it is not a WoW killer but it was better then some of the P2P out right now.
Assassin's like to do it in the dark and from behind.
Well the original game had no crafting whatsoever. Good luck if they intend to add such a feature in. Without crafting it will not do well in the MMO market no matter how good them make it.
I agree with you LordDraekon. I was also in beta and I am eagerly looking forward to getting a chance to play this.
I wouldn't worry at all about the lag aspect of betas. I played AGE OF CONAN beta, and some days it was almost unplayable, then a day b4 the game landed on my mat we got a patch and as if by magic the lag was gone. Shame the game was full of bugs and all the bosses were on exploit farm.
Wow, what great news!
A lot better than most of the games that have been released lately.
If they can fix the bugs.
I'll be playing.
I honestly hold no excitement (and little hope) for the news of Gods and Hereos being reborn. Having particpated in the Alpha (and early Beta) testing of Gods and Heroes I can only wonder why a company would want to revitalize this game. It was a blatant copy and paste job of World of Warcraft. The skill trees and talents were word-for-word copied from WoW skill tress and talents...resulting in character classes that were straight up copies of WoW classes.
Yay! I was in the beta, and I liked it, so I'm happy to see it having a chance to come back.
Yeah I remember being excited about this game and playing some beta before it came out. The whole "Pick your own God" angle was interesting and it looked like it had promise. As people have said the bugs were really bad and a Live version probably would have been disastrous(not sure if on a Vanguard scale cause we never found out). I am really glad though that someone is giving this IP a chance and I will definitely give it a shot in another beta test when it is at the stage for that.
I was also shocked to see G&H get shelved when Perpetual signed on for STO. I got up to level 30+ in the Alpha. Didn't play as much during the beta, as stability issues and downtimes were much more frequent.
The smart thing to do would be to polish the game up, add some kind of PvP and crafting, and sell it to one of the F2P MMO companies.
And for it being a "WoW Clone"...really? Never heard that statement before, except for every single post about every game on these forums. Please lets not turn this post into one of those arguments...again.
Excellent news! I wasn't particularly following its initial development, but it still made me sad to hear it bit the dust so close to completion.
Here's to hoping it rises even higher and gets out the door this time!
lol i was in the beta as well and i recall there were a lot of bugged terrain issue.
but the combat system is pretty nice.but if they were to release it they have a lot of work to do.esp on terrain and quests.and crafting
Well, here come the WoW clone comments, as far as I am concerned, every MMO out there should be considered a clone of the first MMO: Meridian 59.

Yes, yes, yes!
REALITY CHECK
Exciting news! Gods & Heroes rising from the grave.
I also was involved with the beta the first time around, and despite some technical issues and bugs it was shaping up to be a quality title with a new twist on the genre.
Should be interested to see how the new studio handles the project, I wonder if they have any former Perpetual staff working with them? I doubt it, but it could be possible that they snagged a few errant employees along with the rights.
Game was interesting and yeah I was in the beta back then too and the Tech issues were astronomical
But it was a good game and definately a large step away from WoW
Holy @%&# man, thats amazing news im peeing in spasmatic glee!!!
I am so excited by this. I was in the closed BETA and was actually online when the shutdown occured. We were stunned watching the whole thing play out right in front of us. So many people took to the forums to see if it was true etc, and within a couple of minutes, everything for the game except a thank-you message was gone.
I had a great time with this game and while it was broken, it was closed beta and I am very excited to see that somebody has picked this up.
Thanks Heatwave !
Woot, won't be the same game but excited all the same.
I play all ghame
Awesome news. I was pretty sad when this game pretty much went under, before it even finished beta.
Can't wait to finally get to play it.
