B for gameplay and B+ for value? The game has 1.5 faction, only one linear PvE quest path and repeteable PvP instances that do not change as you level (atleast I never saw any new PvP instances as I went from Lt to Commander). No way an objective person would score B+ for value, heck even Champions Online had more quest lines than this game and it was criticized for being shallow.
Hehe, B+ for value after they cut the price and gave an extra 60 days to new people a few weeks after launch?
Even then, probably not.
I played beta and there was just not enough there to pay full price. $50? Nope.
Maybe I'll play when it is in the $10 bin for a month.
What you're saying is because their pro's and cons are similar to what you see across the board (other reviews), their score should be the same. NO
It's whether the reviewer felt the pro's outweighed the cons individually. If he did his score makes sense in every aspect, personally I disagree with his score. However I do not feel it shows any more bias or less professionalism than you see elsewhere in the industry.
I wouldn't pay $40 or even $30 for the game, if I saw it for $10 I still wouldn't be interested. That really has nothing to do with the point that's trying to be made in this thread.
Which that point has changed it seems over the course of the thread. At first it seemed to be about whether or not him being the STO informant on the site, meant his review was unprofessional, and he scored it as he did in order to solidify his job at TTH. That's what I was replying to.

You obviously just don't get it.. This post has nothing to do with the review being bad or good.. it has everything to do with "should the man of given a review in the first place" considering his professional contact with Cryptic in setting up and organizing the TTH site.. I know 4 years olds that can understand this.. LOL
Of course it's biased toward the reviewers interests or preferences, much like your posts and mine are biased toward our own.
People with an opinion, wait people with their own opinion... hold on a second let me get a pen and paper. You are saying that people can formulate their own opinions and ideas while expressing them in a review? Then not only that but other people can formulate other ideas and opinions expressing their distaste in someone elses opinion?
EUREKA! I've uncovered the secret to expression... O wait.

You can't believe how shocked I was to find a 9 page thread on a competitor's site about a review I did. Crazy, crazy
Anyway, I certainly appreciate the assumption that I'm important enough to not only have Cryptic contacts, but have also been to their studios. If you know anyone there, feel free to pass along my acceptance of any invites they may send, LOL. Seriously though, I have never even talked with anyone from Cryptic, let alone been to the studios.
As for the rest of the thread, I'll leave it completely alone except for this one simple statement: I'm enjoying the game, thus the scores. Feel free to dig through my other work at Ten Ton Hammer if you like. I've never been shy about handing out a bad score if I think it's deserved. As I said before, Star Trek Online will appeal to some, but it's definitely not the game for everyone.
And PS - STO failing or thriving has zero impact on my continued employment with Ten Ton Hammer.

So you are telling me had he scored STO lower than any other review to date and said, "it's junk, it's a con, steer clear" and he happened to have a conflict of interest you would have posted the same thing? lol.
OP probably would not have because he's biased to but somebody would have. When a good game gets a bad reviews the forums are filled with posts about how this latest review is biased. I see nothing wrong with the OP.
Don't look at me Ask Mr D to start this own thread over on the TTH boards, if he wants to discuss it.. Have a great day

You know, your arguments are getting more and more laughable. I've read through most of this thread, but when I came to this I just had to laugh. You obviously don't have a clue how things work. How about, instead of looking at Dalmarus's LinkedIn page, you look at Ten Ton Hammer's right here. Okay...you looking? Good.
Now, look at the people with titles like Executive Editor and Public Relations. See them? Those are the people who work with developers like Cryptic. Do you really think sites like TTH let all of their employees from staff writers to community managers and such run around contacting developers? In a professional business situation--any professional business situation, not just sites like Ten Ton Hammer--there are always just a few points of contact, and those people are the liaisons and go-betweens. I very much doubt any staff writer or CM can just fire off an email to Cryptic any damn time they please. There's protocol.
So, you have Dalmarus here saying that he has no direct connections with Cryptic, and you're choosing to call him a liar, right? Impressive. You've ascended to the level of Douchebag. Good for you!
Fist.. just because a person creates an account here just for the sake of posting a response does NOT make him that person .. or not.. We all know people can become whoever they want if they want.. As I said.. Mr D in my opinion as well as others should not of been the rep from TTH to do the review.. It's just simple professional ethics.. It's why judges recuse themselves from cases, and why other professional take certain actions to separate themselves from these situations as well..
Now if the real Mr D wishes to discuss this, I'll be more then happy to do so besides posting here.. I personally find this funny as hell how so many came running to defend this review.. LOL
Grats welcome to understand basic concepts for people who seem to be lacking.
Guy obviously doesn't work for Cryptic and those claiming he does because he was in closed beta fail to realize that most gaming sites get closed beta invites to all sorts of games. Doesn't mean he had any association outside of working for TTH.
I have been in a good amount of closed betas and have never been associated with any game company it is called registering and getting picked. This thread continues to amaze me at the lack of basic understanding of how stuff works.
Not sure what people are still failing to grasp. A review is an opinion of a game. All opinions therefor have bias. All reviews are bias. Grats welcome to understand basic concepts for people who seem to be lacking. I take it you are talking about yourself in understanding the phrase of "appearance of impropriety" ... If that doesn't work for you, try understanding "conflict of interest".. Until you read and understand that simple ethical phrases, we are done here.. Have a great day

And now he's saying that this isn't the real reviewer, just someone "posing" as him. Still hasn't shown any proof of bias. Heck, has he even WENT to the page in question and posted a comment? Seems like he doesn't want to have a conversation with him anywhere.
No comment from the OP on my site. If/when there is, I'll be sure to mention my response in this thread if that will make him feel better. Seriously... first calling me unethical, then calling me a liar - both are understandable from someone upset and I'm happy to let them go. But now claiming I'm not who I say I am. That just smacks of desperation.
And if you think I'm going to go onto my forums and post a thread entitles "Hey, OP. It really is me." then you're simply stoned. If you feel so strongly about all this, feel free to register on our site with the same name (or as close as you can get if someone else happens to have it) and make a comment on the review. I'll be happy to put your disbelief to rest.

LOL
Not sure what people are still failing to grasp.
A review is an opinion of a game.
All opinions therefor have bias.
All reviews are bias.
Grats welcome to understand basic concepts for people who seem to be lacking.
When you have an axe to grind, you tend to overlook things not supporting your view.
I take it you are talking about yourself in understanding the phrase of "appearance of impropriety" ... If that doesn't work for you, try understanding "conflict of interest".. Until you read and understand that simple ethical phrases, we are done here.. Have a great day
First.. you most certainly have contacts.. it's why you were part of closed beta However instead of posting here, lets talk about this on your forums I'm sure you'll be more comfortable there.. Meet you there .. lol

Take care

PS - I do have to thank you for making this my new favorite thread ever, LOL.
