You would be dumb to do it. You can't know how long you'll be playing the game, and if the liftetime subscription costs like 2 years worth of subscriptions, that's a huge risk not worth taking. I wouldn't trust any company THAT much. You'll just get screwed if you don't get lucky.

Well I see your point, But I really like most of SE games. If ffxi had a lifetime sub i would have saved a butt load of money. It is a risk. In my case I see nothing good releasing after ffxiv, so at least I would always have a game to play with ffxiv. I have always said if FFXIV is complete garbage I would leave the mmo genre because their the only developer that makes games to my liking, so really its not to big of a risk.

In a heartbeat. I have alot of respect for Square and the "crafting" they do to their FF games, even the ones that suck(just FF 12 ;D).

I bought a lifetime sub for LOTRO just recently and that speaks volumes. Since I've been a long time buyer of Square games, I would easily purchase a lifetime sub if they offered it.

There are only a few developers out there who truly "craft" games as opposed to those who just churn them out for a quick buck *cough*Cryptic*cough*. Square, Turbine and Blizzard are the few I can think of and MAYBE Bioware, they have yet to prove they can do well in the Online space to me.

Do we know what the monthly fee is? Is it the standard $15 or is it hourly/daily based? Isn't XI $12.99 a month?

I liked XI too, but it could have been the complete opposite as well.

I don't see how leaving the MMO genre would translate to the risk being smaller. You're still going to lose tons of money. Blind faith for any developer is irrational and dumb, that's it.

actually 1000$ for 6 years..... thats right at 45cents a day.... I'd like you to find some other entertainment that's that cheap.

I would pay for a lifer on this in a heartbeat, but it would all depend on the price, I ahve total faith in SE and certain franchises of its game.

Look at the Final Fantasy Franchise, then look at the work coming out for Deus Ex 3, I am more than happy to pay SE

    I'd lifetime sub in a second.   I played FF11 for 3+ Years.

I usually stay away from games that offer lifetime subs. But I make an exception for game companies that have good track records. This one does.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

evri online game has rules if you buy lifetime sub and the next day you do something that is not allowed in game or illegal you can say goodbye to your money and acount becouse they dont have to give it back to you since its your own fault.

i wont buy it cus im an mmo hopped i like an mmo for a few weeks and then hop to another. its becouse there are no good mmos in the f2p p2p b2p market...  but im not going to play FFXIV cus i dont like any FF game

That is a good point, but lets just hope we all behave ourselves.   Unless of course you have a track record of such behavior, I've personally never been banned or suspended from any game, minus a 3 hour ban on WoW for something trivial.

This is really a silly question. Well they wont  offer it that is a fact.  Might as well ask.. if you could fly how much would you fly each day?.. Got to go.. going to fly to Paris..

  • VanpryVanpry Member Posts: 152

Yes, I'd much prefer a large one time fee over monthly fee.

  • Miles-ProwerMiles-Prower Member Posts: 1,106

I prefer the subscription method. I have this issue in which if I spend too much money on a MMORPG, I feel more obligated to play, even if I don't enjoy the game. By buying a lifetime subscription, I'd feel obligated to play it. And when I'd stop, I'd feel as if I would have wasted my money.

By purchasing monthly subscriptions, I can quit, take a break, etc after the month is over and not feel guilty that I somehow wasted a big bunch of money.

I probably will get it if they offered it. But seeing as they didn't do it for FFXI I doubt they do it for FFXIV. =/ But one could hope!

Same here.  I've never bought a lifetime sub simply because I never trusted any of the games they've offered that for.  This would definately be a game I'd trust, but there's no way SE would ever do that.

  • Second2LastSecond2Last Member Posts: 40

I don't think SE would do it either and if they did I really don't know if I would do it. I mean even if XIV is world better than XI they will just have another MMO to replace it eight or so years later.

  • AlbytapsAlbytaps Member Posts: 208

Yea but if you think about it, let's say the lifetime sub is $200... if the monthly fee is $15, you will have paid for just over a years worth... for a lifetime!  Well worth it IMO.  Not worth it if the game is crap, but if it's another FFXI I'd pay up $300.

I hope that this game pans out, if not I am not sure where to head.

Not for pre-order unless it included full access to beta from day you did it and offered to refund you if you didn't want the game.

I've beta'd 40+ games in the last ... (meh, years keep creeping up on me), 15 years... they are ~never~ what you expect from the hype and previews.

Now if you asked if I would buy a life time subscription to a game at the end of the first month I subscribed-- yes absolutely so long as it was guaranteed to continue running for at least a year and wasn't stupid expensive.

    And you've contributed nicely.

    Thanks for the relevant input.

I dont know what a lifetime sub even runs, I am assuming $200-300 dollars. I spend over 100$ a night in a bar on some weekends. A dinner and a movie for 2 can cost upwards of 75$. 200-300$ for a lifetime sub is cheap. Its not blind faith, I have already said SE makes games that I like. I can already tell you that I will like FFXIV, why because its a PvE game. I really like PvE. I dont care at all about pvp. group/solo aspect doesnt bother me, (tho i prefer grouping)  timesinks and grinds dont bother me. I also know SE will add content, I have no problem growing with a game, I dont need it all right now.

Blind faith would be buying a lifetime sub from a company that you have never played a game from. Irrational and dumb? I guess all forums of entertainment is irrational and dumb. Yes there is a little bit of a gamble when it comes to buying a lifetime sub. It depends on the person. Me I would never uninstall it, I would most likely always play it. Hell if AoC had a lifetime sub, and if i had bought it, I would still occasionally play it, even tho I think its a crappy mmo.

But I highly highly doubt SE will offer a lifetime sub so all of this is a moot point. I hope they do offer one  because I will buy it.

At least when you go to bar you know what you're getting.

If you don't like the game, you just paid 300 bucks for a month of gameplay. Call that cheap...

It is blind faith, no matter what you say. You don't know what you're getting into. You don't know how long you will like the game. It's like 2 years worth of subscriptions. You have no idea how you will like the game in 1 year, no matter how good it might be at start.  No matter how many good games or movies or books a company has made, it doesn't guarantee a good experience. Not even near that.

Little bit of a gamble... alright man, do what you want. I can't argue feelings with logic. Too bad feelings don't last forever.

Whatever dude, I have played countless SE games. A large portion of my game library consists of SE games. I even like the poorly reviewed ones. You can always count on good story, and lore in their games. Its not blind faith, its more of faith based on their past merits.

I would never do a Lifetime Subscription.  Sure there is some value to it if you play for years and years, but most MMO's have a tremendously short play span as of late.  There are too many games vieing for peoples attention and most people do not carry more then one active MMO subscription a month.  I myself cannot wait for this game to come out but unless it's a simply amazing game, I don't see myself playing more then 3-months at a clip.

    Momo sucks, I have proof.
