camp11111, dungeon finder tool was the last draw for me. I've noticed that almost every time someone mentions removal of dungeon finder tool on any forum, there's heated discussion between people who want it removed and who don't. There's gamers with different kind of preferences, you know. I may be part of the minority, but it doesn't mean my opinion isn't equal with yours. It's not like I'm demanding the game to change for me. I'm just saying that this thing would need to change if I were to come back, which is of course hypothetical statement as I'm not coming back.
People that play the game - any game - want to group and find extra players to do dungeons and (now too) Battlegrounds.
With the cross server automated LFG tool one no longer can say WOW is a solo leveling game.
It's an extra tool to group. Be it for BG's (upcoming this week's patch 3.3.3) or dungeon play.
At all levels and all gear states it's a fantastic automated instrument whether you have 1, 2 , 3 or 4 people to find.
In CATA it will be nicely supplemented with the Pve and PvP guild leveling and the (needed for everyone secondary) archeology world profession. Together with another extra world PvP zone besides Wintergrasp.
The upcoming PvP guild competiton in CATA will also be based on the same cross server LFG tool.
No one will want to go back to old WOW after having used this tool in all departments of the game (from leveling to end game to PvP).
It is for ACTIVE players of the game. Not for the bored ones. These should refrain themselves as they obviously don't pay to play anymore and so don't even know what they talk about (in leveling, pve and pvp).
Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race.

Yeah, camp11111 has a hard time with that part, it seems. You know...the part where we may be the minority, but it doesn't mean our opinions aren't equal with his....yeah...that part.
People that play the game - any game - want to group and find extra players to do dungeons and (now too) Battlegrounds.
Aye, but not all people are interested in playing in PuGs all day. And actually...some people don't even like grouping at all (although that's hard for me to imagine, it is true).
I love grouping....with my guild mates. Period. I, and many others, are not interested in running dungeons with a conglomeration of people that are unknown denominators as to whether they even know how to play their class, or are otherwise douchebags.
If you hate pick up groups....you pretty much just hate pick up groups. I would rather wait a week to run something with people I can trust and that I like, than wait 20 minutes to run things with complete strangers that may OR MAY NOT even know how to play. So guess what....AGAIN...other people don't necessarily have the same OPINION as you do on the "greatness" of the LFG tool.
With the cross server automated LFG tool one no longer can say WOW is a solo leveling game.
THIS much is true. Now people no longer have the excuse of HAVING to solo, because now they do have the option of pick up groups. I loathe PuGs, always have, and the LFG tool did not make me like PuGs any more than I did before. BUT...you're right....there are people that don't mind PuGs and are obviously thrilled with the option. I have no problem with games offering added options, but...it's not something that I personally would use. Doesn't mean it's not fine for others though.

Your opinion. We hear you. We don't all agree with you, however. I enjoyed "old WoW," as you call it, much more than WoW post BC and WotLK. Some others did too. Doesn't mean we are right and you are wrong, OR...vice versa. But "no one" will want to go back? Nah, that's just not true. Some people would play WoW again IF it were like it used to be. Others...wouldn't even return THEN. So to say "no one" is really a statement of hyperbole.
It is for ACTIVE players of the game. Not for the bored ones. These should refrain themselves as they obviously don't pay to play anymore and so don't even know what they talk about (in leveling, pve and pvp).
I love how you've used that statement repeatedly in numerous threads in an attempt to keep people who have played, some for up to five full years, and even just recently left the game...from voicing THEIR opinions of the game. You know, people would be more apt to listen to your views and opinions if you weren't such an OBVIOUS fanboi to the point of not even being able to concede that just because YOU like something doesn't MEAN everyone else must like it also.
They slowed the leveling curve about 10-fold and added an appropriate amount of content. They made the game much less gear-dependent and much more skill-dependent. They made crafting actually useful. They made crafting much more fun. They didn't put so much emphasis on end-game raiding. They managed to balance classes properly. They wouldn't continuously buff this class, nerf the other, and vice versa when the next patch comes. They made instances more interesting and less cookie cutter. They introduced more interesting features rather than lame copies of what some other MMO already did better to start with. The vast majority of the terrible community left the game. They made characters more unique, cosmetically.
That said, at the moment, I wouldn't go back even if they made the game free to play. In all honesty, there's MUCH better F2P games out there than WoW, all things considered, let alone P2P games that are actually worth what you pay for them.
Pretty solid list right there. I can't argue with any of those points at all.
They should... -remove dungeon finder tool I have no use for it, personally, but I can understand how it might be helpful to lower level players so that they can experience the old dungeons. It's just hard for these people to get together a group when the game is so top heavy. -reduce gear quality you can get by doing heroics -make heroics more difficult -not nerf raid bosses so quickly Ugh. I so agree. -make professions more difficult to level up To ME...crafting needs a COMPLETE overhaul. It needs, imo, to be made interactive, and yes...more difficult. (See EQ2 or Vanguard) Because as crafting stands right now...it levels fast, sure, but there's really no substance to it. It doesn't FEEL like "crafting." -add craftables that serve a purpose in having a profession Yes...rather than most of the actual USEFUL items not appearing until close to max level of your craft. I agree. -make Northrend and Outland mobs more difficult Seriously I agree. Wow do I ever agree. -revert all nerfs to low level dungeons and make them a bit harder Those VERY nerfs...were the beginning of the end to me. Well, that and giving away mounts for practically FREE. Who doesn't remember how exciting it was having to save for those first mounts? And please...every elite under level 60 that isn't in an instance has be "de-elited," and the ones IN instances, like you said, are nerfed all to hell. -remove BoA gear -remove RaF -significantly raise honor gained from world PvP Seeing you say THIS....made me scream YES very loudly....it scared my cats. -add world PvP hotspots Oh HELL YES. -remove flying mounts -create more than one boss, that is very difficult to down, per raid -reduce gear scaling -significantly reduce gold inflation
...if they want me back. Oddly enough, most are matter of changing few number a bit or just removing added features.
You read my mind, I think removing flying mounts will my #1 though.
But regardless I will be back for cataclysm.
Flying mounts are awesome. So sorry you do not like them. But I love my dragon mount and am so glad I ahve him to fly around on. ;P
I too REALLY liked ALL of my dragon and protodrake mounts. Each one of them. And I flew them alternately around like having a constantly changing stable of cool looking mounts. When I left WoW I think I had 123 mounts (on my main) and exactly 100 (just got my albino drake) on one of my other 80s. The dragons were my very favorites. There's just something very "regal feeling" about riding a dragon. lol So I can really relate to that statement.
I can also understand why some people do NOT like flying mounts. But I'm with you. Getting rid of flying mounts just isn't one of the things that would need to happen for me to return to WoW. I have other crazy desires like....better crafting, player and guild housing, more incentives for world PvP and raiding opposing factions' cities like we used to do in vanilla WoW all the time, and maybe bringing back PvP titles, just to name a few.
But anyway....right on with lovin' your dragons! =D
As you look through the lists, it starts to look like Blizzard has fixed things that were not broke and not fixed things that are...heck, even randomly broke things along the way.
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
Return 40 man raids Bring back world boss encounters Check for Cata Make crafting more than just entry level raid stuff Check already (see my signature playing style). Today's Crafted gear of ... level 264 is not entry level ... that's level 200. So no argument really. More reasons to world pvp (I wanna hate the other faction again) Check for Cata... a LOT of new PvP and faction frixtion. Daily quests suck, add content not repeatable tasks Heroic rewards should not replace Raid level items ever. People need to gear up their alts / new 80's too. Randomize BG maps(let factions flip sides, make new themes for existing bg maps). Randomized BG upcoming in 3.3.3. Already a start. Take Tanking back to TBC era and make each one unique and not a AOE spam fest tank Bring Back CC in dungeons Check for CATA Bring back long quest chains for dungeon keys and attunements That's being replaced with "group" heroics play these days. What do you want: boring solo grind killing mobs or group play in easier dungeons? When you revamp an existing dungeon for higher levels dont take away the older version dungeon!!!!! Check CATA Make faction rep more interesting Was already done in WotLK (tabard play and group play) Add in more gvg mechanics like zone capture, city holding and keeps. New world zone in CATA Give us a random Arena feature that gives us rating also (5v5 only) Not only that but CATA will bring in random rated BG's too (based on guild play and guild pvp level progression also). Of course the old PvP titles will come back too. Add in a quest/dungeon creation feature ala city of heroes/Swg. Mentor system.
If i think of more ill add some. Honestly thats a lot of stuff so i doubt i will be back.
Check on the updates for CATA and you'll be surprised what's in it already.

Yes !. From most of the lists above I could easely correct 80% already that are ... already in the game, in the last patches or on the PTR...
I guess the changes go faster than some even like. (remember the phrase: you solo to end game in WOW...).

Believe me they didn't change everything once everyone was gone lol.

No I don't solo to end game in WOW. About 30% I am doing Bg's, 30% leveling dungeon play (around 1 or two a day) and the other 40% I am doing professions and search for other fun and questing things (yes that includes ganking with my rogue on even levels).
And ... I don't see "wanting to buy a stockade boost" at all these days...

You could run BG's, dungeons and craft while leveling back before TBC also. I don't understand what your saying.
So in WoW you actually level through quest hubs in a team like we used to? im sure you don't. Man I leveled my Ork hunter on a pvp server with my shaman and warrior buddies, was the best time I had leveling in a themepark ever. Now Xp goes too fast and alot of our group quests and non instanced dungeons are destroyed due to removal of elites.
Blizzard figured out that people in WoW were not smart enough or social enough to get groups together outside Queues.
Was a good reason for that...no one was doing them. That content was wasted. Once the majority of the population surpasses those elites it was next to impossible to find a group or you had to come back when you could solo the area as a high level for no real reward.
LOTR lowed their "elite"'s stats for this reason and I would not be surprised if most successful games do.

That's not true the vocal minority on the forums were bitching while players like me were going into new quest zones, using region chat to build groups and clearing entire areas with people while growing my friends list.
Blizzard listens to the nimrods on the forums, there's no reason to remove optional group centric content from a game world.
So you don't solo to endgame in WoW still? You mean they brought back Non instanced dungeons and eltie mob quest hubs? No i didnt think so.
Why would they remove instanced dungeons....do they want 20,000 or so back or do they want to keep millions...hum choices.
Did i say remove instanced dungeons? A while back they removed elites from the old game world and basically killed non-instanced elite strongholds.
And what did they bring to the game? A community? Hardly. You play in your guild and a couple of friends. The rest is used as NPC fodder and AH swaps.
Your guilds were annoyed by your begging, people around you were never on the same questing level (apart from the first few months) and the big boy "30 levels higher" boost was ... boring and a non challenge.
They didn't take it all out, but I rather play a dungeon with equal geared people than begging everyone to help me out for 4 hours.

Annoying people? begging? When did you start playing WoW? We didn't beg high levels we asked if anyone needed quests done and we teamed up using region chat. It was a great way to enjoy the game world and meet new people.
It's really pathetic that you only consider inter-guild communication the only way to be social in a mmo.
When was this, back when the level curve was closer to the elites levels? I do not believe your statements from leveling about 16 characters to 80 across 4 servers and over 6 years. I personally liked them removing the elites in the open world because I found them useless. Find a group for very little reward from them was difficult without having a guild high level come and do it or waiting around for a long time finding a group.
As to leveling with friends...even before they sped up leveling if one person played an extra day more than you they would be higher level than you and off on something else that you had to catch up.
I do not think it is the vocal minority that got them to change. It was WoW realizing that to be the king of casual play and keep millions of people happy they needed to open up the content during leveling if that content was being missed due to no groups by 60% of the populations. Same reason for the Cross server group finders. WoW wants to waste nothing and open everything up to everyone. Something elitist gamers hate. This seems to have worked for them. Even if they closed today they probably made more money and have more fans that any other game here in America...and maybe the money thing in the whole world.

Oh that one: we still do that too in fact.
What do you think? That the weekly Raid quest pug, VOA pug, "Threath from above" pug etc are no longer being done, just because there is also an added LFG tool these days.
Nope, but in the other leveling zones, people group up tx to the new LFG tool without much hastle. Group leveling it is called.
Your friends are NOT always ALL on line you know. Now we have a filler.

I'd go back if...
Well, I guess it's more likely I simply play another game. :P
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

So you don't solo to endgame in WoW still? You mean they brought back Non instanced dungeons and eltie mob quest hubs? No i didnt think so.
Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race.
Why would they remove instanced dungeons....do they want 20,000 or so back or do they want to keep millions...hum choices.
Did i say remove instanced dungeons? A while back they removed elites from the old game world and basically killed non-instanced elite strongholds.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
They fixed a lot of things for people who stayed and continued to play, not for people who left.

Now we have a filler.

...they make faction politics more interesting. O wait...
If they offered ways, even very long involved ways, to acquire any item in the game without ever once being required to group to do so.
No chance, eh? For me, this is my biggest problem with MMOs today and so far I've found exactly one that allows the above.
