Yes it seems that if you pre-ordered the game your acccount was marked as active. They did not give out CD keys so there is nothing to "enter" when you want to activate your account. Some people have said that this is the same in other games. It is not. Your game time starts when you enter a CD key. . regardless of when the game was purchased. They should allow people to suspend their account somehow. I am not sure if this was just never thought out or what. . but if it was intentional then I am sure it will not be well received.
I think that the problem is that a lot of people would want to see what launch is like before starting. Maybe they will at least credit back some days if there are issues. Still- people should be able to activate their account when the want. I am sure most want to start right away so they will argue otherwise for some reason.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
To be fair your topic seems a little off. they didn't subscribe. . there are options for this on the store page. . their free 30 days just starts without them having a chose. I do not believe the subscription would continue. I could be mistaken though.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
No.. what I am reading is that your subscription (ie. billing) is automatic.... all pre-order accounts are set to automatically recurr. Other people have verified that when they check their account it its set to auto-renew and they had to manually turn it off!
This means that someone who pre-ordered in July and gave up on the game is going to get a rude surprise when they get hit with a $15 charge in a month.
As always.. if this is incorrect please feel free to point me to the correction. Like much of SVs communication it is vague and difficult to pin down. instead of a straight answer it's always roundabout. Should I turn left or right is answered by "You should not take the one which would have you turn the opposite of left"

reading the posted link thread and the posts by the offical employee, it clearly states
the free 30days is used up automatically when MO offically lauches (if that is tomorrow then tomorrow is when the 30days start ticking down)
if you login to your account and click the cancel subscription tab and update all that jazz. once your 30days are over, you wont be charged (so in effect you just wasted X dollars getting in to the pre-order/order set of players and wasted your 30 free days for nothing basicly)
if you do not setup the cancellation of sub.. they will subtract X dollars from your account each month ... ect. ect.. dot T cross i so forth.
people disagree with it because they feel they shouldnt lose out 30 free days by not actually playing the game at launch and such. which is actually true if i buy MO in stores and it has 30 days free IF i do not signup for 1yr and use that code i shouldnt lose that 30days free.
the way they have it set. i buy MO from a store and automatically for that day forth my 30days is ticking downward to 0. so if i dont signup and play for 2 months i have already wasted my 30days... kind of cheap
This is spot on... If you paid in any way that they can bill you again (Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, ect) they're going to bill you again.
I just logged into their store and changed my account from recurring to canceled.
Slapshot, why do you make threads which has "Seems to be confirmed" in it's name? This is by no means confirmed. Why don't you contact em and ask? This can make huge misunderstandings in people.

No they have subscribed people to recurring charges without them selecting it. They have not chosen a billing option are are set up with the billing info they only gave to purchase the game.
You have to cancel what they set you up for.

Im not sure if you honestly didnt understood what he said or are just being a smart ass. Its not normal for a person who just pre-ordered a mmorpg to be billed straight away for a monthly subscription when the game releases. So to an unsuspecting person this might be a problem. Its another example of the lack of professionalism that SV is known for.
So the problem is, SV seem to be trying to take money from people without they realising it, since their lines of communication dont work.

because people have continued to ask again and again for clarification on this issue with no real official respone
I have no idea how this was all done, but I do see that there is alot of confusion on this and no official explaination. If there is a cancel button I would assume that means a subscription is going to be auto activated which is very shady since many who have already given up on the game (but pre purchased) are going to be charged a monthly and probably have no idea.

i bet you wonder lots of things in this world not just that, thanks for infoing anyways, but when you get your own credit card and start using it ,you might find out that many online games uses recurring system.

This is a bad move on SV's part and I sincerely hope they rethink it. I have no issue with the billing being automatic, as that is simply the standard. My issue is with the free month starting right away with no say from the costumer. I pre-ordered and participated in beta, it lasted long enough I got my worth out of the original purchase (imo). However the game simply is not up to par to be worth a monthly fee atm. If they burn my free month, then when I am interested in checking out the game later this year, I would be met with a subscription fee. This is simply a bad idea, given good reviews and well documented and confirmed fixes, I may front 15$ to find out. On the other hand, this underhanded move will further prolong any interest in trying this game again in the future and paying to try it again after supporting the company may make that indefinite.

So how many mmos are there that set you up for a recurring subscription the minute you pre-order them, and then dont tell you about it? uh?

No it is not. No one can charge you without your authorization. They never asked people to sign up for a recurring billing option. They signed you up and will charge you. This does not happen in any other game. .you always pick a billing option.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
EXACTLY!
All those people that pre-ordered and gave up on the game or figured they would just check back in 6 months are going to be in for a surprise when they get billed.

You mean those ones where you are brought to a subscription screen and select the type (30 day, 90 day, 180 day) and enter payment info for the subscription (Visa, MC, PayPal, gamecard)...
Yup.. those ones I know.. but what does that have to do with this situation as none of the above occured?

I don't know much about international law, but is that even legal? As far as I know, those people never gave their consent to be automatically billed. Don't they have to choose a payment method and then agree to those charges? After all, they only bought that box and 30 days of free time...
Yep. I sometimes buy a game with Paypal but then want my subscription to be on my credit card. I have never not been offered the choice.
Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!
Funny thing is, even with all the confusion we dont even KNOW if people are going to be billed for a subscription or not due to the stellar communication of SV.
They could easily clear this matter up with an official statement... But wait, as always they are too busy to communicate lol.
IF (and I say IF- because its really unclear) they do automaticly enroll folks into a sub- I suspect major backlash, chargebacks and possibly lawsuits to occur over this... I do not think its legal (at least in my Country) to start a sub without specific autorization EVEN IF its written somewhere in the EULA.
Ahhhhh, this gets worse and worse by the day.
Yeah without actual consent to a billing plan, they are on very shakey ground legaly, HOWEVER and its a big however, as I am just as guilty as the next man for not reading fine print, is there any puesdo legal crap when we agreed to do the pre-purchase, IE we will bill you automaticly on a 30 day cycle and your 30 day free period starts at launch...
In that case DOH ive done it again, should of looked more carefully at the small jargon bollocks before clicking 'yes', but easily fixed in the sense of going into store and selecting cancel, but yeah total crap for others not on any forum, bit of a honey trap.
