I think some people just don't seem to get that after playing one game for 5+ years and getting bored doesn't mean that the game suddenly sucks.  The game hasn't really changed.  For you, maybe it does now.  I only have an issue with all the threads I've read recently that attack the gamers that still play the game after said person suddenly decided WoW sucks.  They complain about the community that they were a part of for 5+ years.  They complain about the casuals that have steered the game into basically a solo game and complain about the hardcores that kick them out of their raids for not being geared well enough.  All of these are valid arguments.  But to complain that WoW isn't even an MMO is reaching so far for something to bitch about that it's laughable.

You basically hit the nail on the head man.

    This. ^

I realize that WoW hasn't changed, I just got bored. I don't really have anything negative to say other than it got repetitive to me, but hell, what won't after 2+ years?

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

     I agree with you here.

I play WOW off and on, because I just get bored to easy with it now.  I dont play for long periods of time like I used to when I first found out about the game.

Just because I've done all I care to do in this game, does not mean that  all of a sudden  WOW no longer qualifies as an MMO.

Saying WoW is not  an MMO is like saying that  my Thunderbird is no longer a car because I dont  care to drive it anymore LOL.

I disagree.  The game has changed dramatically into a more instanced, solo-type experience.  Vanilla WOW had a world.  Travel was a part of the world as it could be dangerous, and therefore made up part of your adventuring.  I mean, you had to dodge the gators in Menethil swamp to get to the other side; stuff like that.

B.C. expanded the game, but was mostly a decent expansion.  WOLTK destroyed the game and turned it into a non-challenging, hang-out-in-Dalaran-and-spam-the-LFG-Tool sort of game.

The closest comparision to what happened to WOW, with the introduction of a central portal city (i.e, Dalaran), would be the introduction of the Plane of Knowledge in EQ1.  Early EQ was a legendary game, and different areas had unique communities going on.  They had the tunnel in East Commonlands that folks gravitated to and turned into an OOC auction area.  They had the stone platform just inside North Ro that folks would hang out at before setting off into the desert.  They sort of saw it as a safe area (although it was not).  There was so much coolness in the world that was shut down at once when the Plane of Knowledge opened up and effectively emptied out all the old world zones.

Basically, WOW (and early EQ) went to the horrid Guild Wars format in which everyone hangs out in a central lobby and ports off to dungeons.  Sucks, sucks, sucks.  I have no respect for dev's who push for this sort of design, for truly they must be geeks without vision.

I'm not really sure if your serious or just trolling when you say 'dodge gators in Menethil swamp'.  I think you're confusing the leveling game with dungeon instances.  When you leveled a character, you had to go out in the world from quest hub to quest hub.  That is still the case today.  Leveling by and large has always been a solo experience.  Now, you have to option of gaining exp in instances.  Once you hit end level (whether that was 60 or 70 and now 80), most of what you did was instances.  Well before you had to travel to the instance.  Well, that's fun initially but gets old as hell after doing it 20 times.  Even leveling gets old as hell after grinding your 3rd or 4th alt.  The dungeon finder gives you another avenue to gain exp plus cuts out the tedium of flying on the bird to get there.  You make it sound like the world just disappeared.  It's still there, you can still run around and get chased by those gators if you want.

The Everquest reference is funny, because since day one (2004) it has never felt like EQ used to feel in terms of running around the gameworld.  What scenario is WoW was ever equivilent then running for your life through Kithicor at night?  Or getting chased by Sand Giants in Oasis (where mobs were 20 levels higher than the recommended leveled players in that zone)?

Even EQ had you porting around to places, even prior to PoK.  I don't know about you, but towards the end the fastest way I got somewhere is having a wizard/druid port me.  In some hard to reach areas there was Call of the Hero, which ported you to where the wizard was.

The nostaligia folks always crack me up.  Lemme tell ya, it's never going to be years down the road where you remanince and say 'hey, remember when WoW first launched and we were running for our life in Tirisfal Glades from level 8 bats to get to Scarlet Monastary?'  Give me a break.

He was being serious... I remeber running thru those swamps on my nelf hunter just to get to what ever it was I was after, with Crocilisks(sp?) nipping at my heels. That was back in classic.

I understand his point of view.

I haven't played since they put this stuff in, and I can see it being both a good thing and bad thing.

It kills World PvP on PvP... well kills it more then it already had been on life support as it was.

But people are running low level instances now so that is a plus... but if a bulk are people are leveling this way that means there isn't anybody running around outside instances to interact with... and that is bad.

I should re-activate my account to see this 1st hand.

I resubbed and created a new toon along with my girlfriend re-subbing and creating a new toon.

We picked a server that was listed for New Players that I hadn't seen before, so it really was quite new.

Easily 50-100 people at any given time in the lowbie zones running around questing.

And playing together leveling together doing quests and the occasional instance has been so much more fun and exciting then spamming the LFG tool to level or spamming the LFG tool to get gear and then trying to PUG raids.

Two level 80s and countless alts between like 20 and 70 and having more fun on my new gnome mage then any of them combined.

These really are games meant to be played with other people.

Sure, I could play a ton when my girlfriend isn't around to play too and level 10x times faster, but why?

It's ALL about your mindset. It's all about slowing down and enjoying the game and the company of playing with people.

Ya'll need to let go of this competitve "must level faster!" mind set and forget about gear and levels and just enjoy it.

Hop into a BG for some PvP or a dungeon via the LFG tool every now and again for a change of pace, but the only person taking the open world away from you is YOU.

I am fairly sure thats what I said..

Just in a few more words.

How about this instead? "I don't like the direction the game has gone in".

To me it doesn't feel like an MMO anymore, because while there are tons of places to explore and adventure. The majority of the players are sitting in Dalaran, pressing "Queue for dungeon" over and over. Doesn't sound like a whole load of fun to me. I like the dungeon finder for its intended purpose. But I don't like how everyone sits in one spot and runs instances over and over..

You nailed it.  I don't know why Blizzard sat on their laurels and let a 10 million-subscription game go stale.  Just poor discretion, IMO.

They have the biggest dev teams, the most funding, and still they kick out expansions and new games at an astonishingly casual pace.

Prediction:  WOW will lose its crown within the next couple of years, especially if something like EQ Next, Schilling's MMO, or FF XIV launch in a big way.

Oh no. Not lose its crown within a couple years! That would mean they were the top MMO for 'only' 7 years! What a bust!

I am a former WoW player cuz it bored me. But I am not an idiot. Its still the best out there and every other MMO i try I get bored within 2 months. WoW gave me about 2-3 years.
