  • IzorkIzork Member UncommonPosts: 381

What about LOTRO? Anyone up for that? Its mostly solo leveling, but could do grouping for more fun :) and make or join a kinship.

  • sly220sly220 Member UncommonPosts: 607

Well LoTRo is cool for a while but its mainly solo till max or 58ish then run instances since its radiance gear gated for high end group content.... Im just leaving LoTRo after my year of playing and getting 3 toons to max lvl, geared, and main vitures taken care of ill wait till next release to get back on.  back to wow for a while....... yea i know i know...... but its kinda newish again lol.. anyway FFXI was dead when i last logged in but i play in the AM and afternoons its hard to find groups mostly everyone has 75 on all jobs or it feels that way. so ill wait till FFXIV

Well i'm down for WAR. Archmages are an awesome class and the rvr is fun. Downloading WAR right now... and xfire.

If we change directions, I vote for Vanguard, it's an awesome game as well, for pve grouping.

  • IzorkIzork Member UncommonPosts: 381

on europe servers that is. I might have one US with me already. Anyone want to group up with us? Join me on Xfire or Steam.

Great idea folks. I have spent the last 18 months looking for a game with group heavy content and I cant seem to find anything other than the usual fill your quest log up and solo game.

My first two games were Myth of Soma (3 years) and Lineage 2 (OB to present day with long breaks playing different games). In both games questing was an afterthought in my opinion and I loved it. My thinking is back in those games I would log on and talk to my guild/clan rather than spend my time reading walls of text given to me by NPC's. Personally I feel the "quest fest" ruined the community/friendship feeling I used to get in games. Even in the top raiding guild I was in, in WoW I would find myself ignoring chat just to get the dailys done (for some reason I had to do them and clear the quest log). Raiding was just a bunch of instructions followed by grats spam then more instructions.

I dont know what game to suggest. Every game I've tried seems to be a solo game.

A couple of suggestions to help this get off the ground if I may:-

First, go for a game with a single global version. The problem with WAR and LoTRO is that you won't get both American and European players as the chances are they are using different game clients. Whilst EQ2 does allow players to use either set of servers you will need to re-patch the game each time you switch between the US and European servers.

Second, if you are going for EQ2 do not select Antonia Bayle server as that is now so over-crowded that it has very major performance issues. The same is true of the only remaining US PvP server.

Izork i added u to xfire...name is kryptico there as well. so up or down vote.. ffxi or vanguard??? both group based from close to begining to end it sounds like. Whats it going to be?? :) ... i have a toon on ffxi atm and im not a complete newb with it. no end game experience tho.

Seriously, this can never catch any newer player who did not play it from day one.

I would reopen idea of vanguard. I never played it, but all I hear about the game that its biggest problem is lack of people. So be it, lets make group there. If we beat the lack of people there, it will be a great game right? I mean is Vanguard really such interesting game to try with some serious MMORPG.com group, or it is just another "the game has potential" game?

thats because was made for ps2 and was ported to pc ...horribly lol... i use a cheap $15 logitech controller..and works great. Im def down for vanguard too..so noo qualms here...love grouping in ffxi tho.

Wow. . you are even worse than me.  By the time I downloaded WAR you were on to EQ2. . now LOTR already.  I thought I was having a hard time deciding.  I am not sure I can stand any game that is level based and has zones for the level anymore.  I think I will fire up Fallout 3, Oblivion or something like that again.  I am burnt out just trying to decide.

Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!

  • StrickStrick Member UncommonPosts: 12

It's funny I was thinking of Fallout 3 aswell. I'm still playing Lineage 2 atm, it is a huge grind fest but you can not beat the end game hate/drama you will experience.

I am interested too. About the game i could consider both EQ2 and Vanguard. Maybe we should create a forum or at least one or more guilds here in mmorpg.com in order to organize ourselves? Thanks. Btw, i am from Europe/Greece (GMT+2/3).

"Traditionally, massively multiplier online games have been about three basic gameplay pillars – combat, exploration and character progression. In Alganon, in addition to these we've added the fourth pillar to the equation: Copy & Paste."

  • IzorkIzork Member UncommonPosts: 381

    I completely shut down this.

Ive tried lotro,eq2,war etc these last days, and nothing seems to be me. Im burned out i think.

I will play Fallen Earth as a SINGLE PLAYER game with social aspects (think of it like that, not a mmo) untill Earthrise or APB (The first release) cause im sure some new game will be úber pwn.

hope you guys understand.. yes im worse than you :)

Honestly if you want to have some fun grouping wise it needs to be some of the older MMO's. For example DAoC - Dark Age of Camelot. This probably the best choice by far as well. They recently just server merged as well so I hear the population has gone up a little bit. This was by far one of the best MMO's to date and the grouping was superb had so much fun just running around 3-4 people whacking shit. The only problem like that has already been stated is Mythic.

As for other MMO's I am not sure of many that are heavily group based besides maybe DDO - which has a lot of players right now as well since it went F2P.

On another hand, I would like to recommend 2 games that I play off and on when I get bored of WoW (Yes I still play WoW, because it still keeps my interest). The first being League of Legends. If you have ever played DoTA from Warcraft 3 you will absolutely love this game. It is free to play and the cash shop is only used to buy heroes so there is no advantages with it. Granted it's not a MMO and you can't play it all day expecting for something new, but it is a great game to go to.

The second game, which I started recently and may not be the typical game, but I find it very fun is called Battleforge. It is an MMORTS and is very strategically based, but it is very fun and it looks awesome. The difference with it as well is you use cards in it as well kind of like how Wizard 101 is but RTS style and a lot more graphical interface than Wizard 101.

Just some ideas to look into. Also like someone mentioned earlier, the Closed Beta of Battle of The Immortals has just started and I am loving it right now. It's a fast-paced diabloesque kind of MMO and I am only level 20 and having a lot of fun.

Anyone elsei nterested in EQ2? Contact me on Xfire and we'll great a group!

PS. Anyone know if its possible to get a Eq2 sentinels fate retail (boxed) version in europe (doesn't matter if US version, just i can get boxed version)

EDIT: Station got it for 29.99 usd and 21 usd in shipping, so ill take that if i find fun in the game :)

    please join me !

EQ2 is the exact same thing as WAR. -_- If you want something different and actually fun I again highly suggest you play FFXI. If you play EQ2, play on the server Antonia Bayle(or whatever it's called), it has the highest population.

I use to b a avid ffxi player in the past...just recently got the trial again on fenrir i think its called. i have a lvl 7 or 8 RDM so if you care to join on that server ...and maybe others might come who knows lol .. im in a LS atm . nice group but if we are serious in making a LS with more people from here then sounds good too. ha

I tried EQ2.. And I can see its a solo game aswell, became atleast.

So anyone up for FFXI? That will probaly be my last attempt before I quit MMOs til next release. I heard it's almost ONLY group, sounds fun ! I need some to play with then tho.

Anyone up for it? Please, join me !I'm a newb to it , so a vet returning could be nice.

    Catch me on xfire: izork

ps. i'm on ALL day today (its 6:41 here now so early in the morning :)

said it alot, but if you play eq2 as a group you should make sure to lvl lock yourself alot, maybe even play on their pvp server....not that I like PvP but there is actually ppl lvl locking themself.  ofc to be able to compete in PvP

over all wouldnt recommend EQ2 at the moment unless you are enough for a raid, and would need to make sure you all actually got same game hours - need 24 solid on rather specific classes.

in EQ2 you can both solo and group the full way to 90....and imo the lvl 1-70 being the best, and can easy just lvl from 1 - 20 in no time and miss most of the actual fun sides of it, half the dungeons half the heritage quests, since it original were designed to let you choose between 2 places for solo and 2 for group(ofc to enhance replayability too), and now with boosted xp ofc its "worse".

either way have fun when you figured what game you ll stick to for awhile )

So just for few info about how this community goes, we are preparing to start our guild in WAR US server in Bandland.

We are Order and feel free to join us and try out the trial of WAR too.

Currently we have around 4-5 people active that already subbed into the game and prepare to build up the community.  As well I'm glad that we are actually make progress to make this happening (even though there are few people rather want to wait awhile to see if they wanna join or not) but still is a good start.

Anyway, anyone still interested to WAR will feel free to contact us :)  and join our xfire chat room "war"

Just wanna say WAR is pretty casual and really do have lots of action in RvR !!!  For someone like me who doesn't have a lot fo time anymore (school days are over :(  Have to start work) you can always popped in and enjoy some fast paced pvp. Also the  upcoming patch they are going to do included a lot of PvP and RvR aspect, finally they hear the fans voice, plz check it out:

    http://forums.warhammeronline.com/warhammer/board/message?board.id=dev_discussions&thread.id=8243

So anyway, feel free to try the trial, and even you can't hook up feel free to join our chat room.  We never know in the future what might going to be, maybe one day this community will have few different MMO to share with together!

Feel free to ask me about hows the game work now and the population ... =)

so, =)  SEE YOU ALL and enjoy the community !!!

  • KrypticoKryptico Member Posts: 18

DAOC would be fun to. I been wanting to play that as well. I did the trial but had no guild or group and got lonely and left :( . I really wanted to get into it tho ! I would be game for that asap! :P

  • bugstusslebugstussle Member Posts: 5

Unfortunately we the community of group seekers are stuck. Everquest and DAoC were most memorable grouping games. It will sadly become just a memory of fun times. For now we just have to wait, or feed ideas to a company with development on their minds. Find a company you like, or a game that seems interesting but still in development and pour ideas into it; maybe forced grouping which I think would be awesome.

MMO's I'm proud to say I played : EQ, DAoC , Planetside, Warhammer Online, Global Agenda

MMO's I'm not proud to play: Everything Else.

  • ShadewalkerShadewalker Member Posts: 299

There's no lack of games you can group in, every single MMO can be grouped by those players who prefer to play that way.  Even quests in  marked "solo" can usually be grouped, you simply need to find other like-minded players. In so far as more people these days prefer not to group than used to be the case , that isn't a problem caused by the game, it simply means those  who prefer to groupneed to find ways of getting together, and that's what this topic is about, giving those people a flying start in getting them together.

Having developers design a game around forcing people to group has never been a good idea (except in the Eastern market where they play differently in many ways to the Western market), and the notion that  forcing soloers to group will increase the ease of getting a group has always been a false one, rather the soloers simply won't play that particular game which will end up with a much smaller playerbase which is of no benefit to anyone. Moreover it's been established on the forums many times that a lot of  those who like to group won't play a forced grouping game because they resent the lack of choice and being told they must play a certain way.

Every MMO should cater for all playstyles, and that should include solo, small group, full group and raid options, with the rewards commensurate with the risks and challenges involved (which doesn't mean an automatic assumption that the more people involved the greater the reward). They should also include appropriate ingame tools for optimising the implementation of those options such as decent LFG tools etc.

I wish you guys well getting together in WAR, I hope it works out., and I hope you'll give an update here from time to time as to how it's going.

    MANIFEST DESTINY

Anyone here still interested to join us, and wanna play WAR, please don't hesitate to try out the unlimited trial!  All I wanna say is that this game offered the best RvR and the upcoming patch will concentrate on 100% RvR cities and seige (yes more PvP)

Anyway, feel free to contact us in game: (I will update the name list again)

    Healingfive, Dolmong, Foxie, Diamard

For those folks who wanted this sort of a setup but don't want to try WAR out, check out my thread http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/3500728/thread/275763#3500728

Were trying to get a group like this together!

  • batmanuel2batmanuel2 Member Posts: 19

Try dungeons and dragons online. You can't progress in the game without grouping. It's not open world and is heavily instanced but the group dynamics is what's important right? The leveling and character development is what gets me turned off but if you're into that kind of thing then give it a go. It's F2p and it has very helpful people and a growing community because of F2p implementation.

  • AmbreAmbre Member UncommonPosts: 104

Is this still going ? I tried to join you guys on the war channel on xfire, but it was empty all evening... How is your community doing ? Do you still think WAR was the right choice for a group based MMO ?
